Jasnah's most important lesson for Shallan
DocHoliday replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
Don't see why not. Perhaps: The world believes what it sees. -
Geez...skip 1 page of dialogue and you miss the assassination of good behavior...(mutters into the distance while hunting said page) Gentlemen(ladies?) Chrono has struck at the heart of the 17th Shard. I went back and reread the entire thread. Vikorr, much of what you have argued for, I agree with. However you are flirting with a serious line of rudeness, intentionally or not. If it is Moogle's belief (religious or not) that murder is murder, sanctioned or not, that is his right. Legal, right, and wrong are 3 different subjects open to every individual's interpretations. Please can we respectfully agree that we disagree? Moogle, on 18 Feb 2014 - 9:25 PM, said: 17th Shard is rather different. I'm not sure why. Probably the strong moderation/high proportion of Mormons, now I think on it. Things do work out rather well here. If I've ever offended or been rude, don't hesitate to PM me so I can stop doing it. My goal when arguing morality and other things here is not to offend, but to understand other positions and I fear I sometimes come off as arrogant. This is I feel a wonderful thought process we should embrace. The human brain is equipped to communicate in a person to person manner, when we use the internet we lose 2/3 of communication (namely tone and body language). We must endeavor to acknowledge that what we have said, may not be entirely accurate as to what we want to communicate. All that being said: We are terrorists that have hijacked this thread. If we would like to continue the friendly debate (not argument), about Dalinars relative merits, might I suggest in good taste that we create our own thread? To the best of my knowledge, you Moogle are fu savant in the ways of hyper links. Would you kindly provide one so others could understand the founding POVs? (Yes I went Brit on this one, be silent miscreant)

I can't bring my self to edit that.

I've been watching Futurama on Netflix recently, and while I was at first a supporter that there might have been something to this, I know believe we may have been reading to much into this. Professor Farnsworth of Futurama repeatedly uses the phrase "Balderdash!" As a curse. This caused me to raise the question around dinner. Evidently a number of cartoons use it including The Backyardigans, and Fines Finneas and Ferb. The only conclusion I can draw from this, is that balderdash is some sort of colloquial curse.

Anger is not yet apparent, however certain posts contain remarks that could easily be inflammatory.

Spook, who was the Burning Survivor, was much more advantageously placed to make these arguments but never did. Sazed was a near catatonic state of depression. If you've ever had to deal with a Magic Depressive, you understand. Literally they do not care if they live or die in extreme circumstances. Often they cannot summon the will power to get out of bed. That Sazed does, is a statement of his character. He's dealing with far more than the loss of Tindwyl. He lost his faith. Not merely became disillusioned of a specific religion. He no longer believed there was anything to live for. As Jasnah from SA says, "I have the things I was taught to rely upon. My family, my sense of right and wrong have more meaning than any faith to me." (Paraphrase) Sazed does not even have those guidelines any more. That sense of loss is profound.

I had similar thoughts Swimmingly with one additional advantage. I'll bet you a bead of Atium that you can use Feruchemical gold to recover from a Pewter drag. So many uses, especially from a military standpoint.

Discounting Inquisitors, 5 being Spiked dosnt mean it's note worthy. Pathians... Edit: spoiler tag

He sells Atium. I deduce one word: fraud! LoL remember what I said about everything we need being only a few clicks away?

Gravitation lashings vs feruchemical iron
DocHoliday replied to Sirscott13's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Are we still toying with Zero G? A single Basic Lashing would only increase his weight by the normal x1 in a given direction.(using Roshar's gravity as the norm) A second Lashing would double that force, giving Wax double the amount of weight he cited potentially store. There is a bottom line to the amount you're able to Fill a Metal Mind. If I weigh 100 lbs, I'm never going to be able to store more than 99 lbs a second. If I weigh 200 lbs however I can Fill 199 lbs a second. So Wax having multiple Lashings accrue will let him Fill his Iron-Mind at a quicker rate than would other wise normally be possible. Did I answer your question? -
Gravitation lashings vs feruchemical iron
DocHoliday replied to Sirscott13's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wax stores weight, which is a measurement of the force being put on a certain mass of object by gravity. Therefore more gravity= more weight. Therefore more Lashings= more Filling. -
Surgebinding Mistborn? More Speculations about Hoid
DocHoliday replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Pushing & Pulling are a Scadrial thing, but the 3 Realms are an feature of the entire Cosmere. So we have to keep in mind that everything from rocks to Surge-binding to the HoA prophecies has a Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual aspect. With that in mind I suppose it's possible for Hemalurgy to steal Surge-binding, assuming proper knowledge of bind points. The real question is, would the Nahel Spren be stolen? I theorize that prior to the formation of the Nahel Bond, Surgebinders could run rampant as they liked. My basis for this is the Nohadon vision in which Nohadon laments the problems caused by Alakavesh. I believe that this indicates that S spren were not necessarily apart of Surge-binding originally. So the question is, does Hemalurgy bid the spren? Or the Surge?- 44 replies

Honorblades give people the power to surgebind.
DocHoliday replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
Weiry Writer linked you to some good information, but I want to add some about Kalak's POV. During the Prelude he and Jezrien keep referring to their weapons as their "Blades". While this may be short hand, as saying "my Honorblade" repeatedly might grow onerous, I don't think that this completely discounts the idea that they could conceivably be Dawn Shards. I've been theorizing about the nature of Odium's prison. There's a line in WoK that refers to "the 10 facets of Odium's prison". We are aware that the Heralds part some part in keeping Odium bound, thanks to the Prelude again. We are also aware that the Dawn Shards can bind any creature, Voidish or not. So is it completely creditable to claim that the two, Honorblades and Dawn Shards, are two separate, independent objects of Investiture? Now the flip side to my argument is that Honor tells Dalinar that mankind needs Dawn Shards to fight "the enemy". That Dalinar must return the Shards that mankind once wielded. This heavily implies that Tanavast does not believe that the Dawn Shards are in possession of any mortals. If we assume that Szeth is carrying an Honorblade, and for the sake of argument it's a Dawn Shard, the only defense that I can muster is that Tanavast is speaking from a time in the past and does not have current knowledge of present day Roshar. Much of this is speculation, feel free to poke holes.- 43 replies

Alternate Understanding of "the Three Gods"
DocHoliday replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
If I'm not mistaken, are not the colors of the moons silver, green and purple? Green is readily identifiable as being related to growth and life (Cultivation) Silver is the metallic version of white, obviously equitable with goodness and honorable actions (Honor) Purple is not usually used to represent evil, however black lights are in actuality dark purple glass lite from within. So purple could be the illuminated version of Darkness or evil intent (Odium) -
I don't think this is possible. Every instance we have of Szeth performing Basic Lashing involved him picking a direction and his target being between him and the direction he selected. Seems more like firing a rifle rather than a heat seeker. That's a matter of general targeting. I still believe that a KR Windrunner could Lash themself wherever they want as they are already in contact with themselves. Similar to Soul-casting, a Windrunner has to touch an object to Lash it.

Rosharan Genetics, We're talking hair.
DocHoliday replied to The Rooster's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm frankly surprised Adolin had black and blonde hair. I've never heard of a person having that hair color/pattern. To the best of my knowledge, black hair is a dominate trait; basically over ruling recessive traits like blonde and red hair. You can get minor shades of red in brown hair people and blondes, producing auburn and strawberry blondes respectively. But "faded black"? Never heard of it. Even though it's probably incorrect, I imagined Adolin with prison stripes in his hair the whole time I read WoK. Shadolin would realistically have mixed red hair and Alethi black.- 22 replies

Gross question:Why not soulcast from the latrines?
DocHoliday replied to priceless's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the major issue is the cognitive aspect of it. You can stir the latrine, but I have a feeling that the muck might still view itself as: " I'm a slaves poop." And: "Well I'm Elohkar' s poop! " I don't think the latrine contents have been together long enough for the cognitive aspect to change into "we're just poop". I evidence that the Ardents require specific individual stones to make food. On the other hand, the latrine is Soul-casted into something, so perhaps it's a material issue. On another note, why don't they use dead bodies for food? The rich get their bodies turned into tombstones, so it's possible to Transform them. Why not recycle the dead? -
I, I ,I don't know what to say. Take them you evil master mind! ( O.O)>***** Seriously, that is one of the most devious thoughts every conceived. Well played.
