The map of Roshar in WoK indicates the Origin to be almost exactly Southeast with an arrow pointing towards it. Although the compass does say Stormward, with the knowledge that North is at the top of the map we can surmise the other cardinal directions. Or was this in reference to the Storms? As Aspren pointed out, the directions of storms on Earth is influenced by Coriolis effect. I was pointing out that Highstorms don't form in the same manner as hurricanes or some such. They don't form under the same conditions or move in the same manner, so I felt justified in my statement. Speaking of the Coriolis effect, I was toying with an idea. We know Earth has a center a axis of rotation that is tilted 23°. Which remains forever pointed in one direction in space. This is responsible for our seasons. Roshar seasons are highly variable, irregular, and do not fall in an kind of sequential order. If we were to take a model of Earth's rotation and orbit, how would reproduce Roshar's? The reason I ask is because the Sun's uneven heating of Earth's surface mass difuses energy unevenly, producing some areas where heat is much more concentrated. But that got me thinking, what if the planet is rotating unevenly? Taking Earth as an example: what if we took a toothpick and stick it through the planet 23° to the left of Magnetic North, and set it spinning. We would have the planet orbiting, rotating around the poles, and spinning around a 3rd point. What sort of effects would we see on Storm movement, and season change under this model?

You are both indeed correct, if the Highstorms followed this model. They do not. The Origin is actually to the Southeast of mainland Roshar Delightful. I was pointing out that the Origin is at a point which is further South than continental Roshar. Although the Storms move on a generally Westerly manner, judging from Kaladin's vision, they are not perfectly East to West in movement.

I want Jasnah and Shallon to begin reading WoK for Dalinar while Kaladin is present. It has been my theory for sometime that the Almighty followed the 40 precepts of WoK, and that those 40 excerpts also lay the groundwork for the KR Ideal. It is my personal belief that it is during one of these readings that Kaladin will reveal his ability as a Surgebinder finally. It is also by belief that he will learn the basic tenets of Windrunner-hood.

I am in awe that something like this has never occurred to me. Thank you for posting this wonderful world building extrapolation. It makes me wonder however whether the 2 are actually related. I live in Florida, so I've a little more information than most without having to dig. Hurricanes are well known to form in waters that are much warmer than average. The southern coast of Roshar is well known to have an enormous amount of ice, suggesting the water is in the area of 32° F give or take a degree or two. This is far from ideal conditions for Storms to be forming in. Since we know the Highstorms form in the south this lends a heavy amount evidence that the super continent is not responsible for these events. Now if the Origin were in the North, this would lend a hefty dude of credibility that the Storms are doing around for a bit. But I don't think that's the case.

You're a Herald!!?!?

Darnam, you did very well up to this point. But this is the point where it went over the top. I understand your points. And I understand your frustration. There was avoidance of what you were trying to say I feel. Personally I agree with you. This is one of the many points Amaran defendants avoid IMO. But you got to take a step back brother. Not everyone will agree with us. Others down voted you, and the admins locked this topic up cause we let incivility have its way. I'd like you to continue posting, cause you're passionate dude; so take a pinch of Copper. A big Breath. And draw Aon Omi. Talk to you later dude.

I see, I hadn't seen that. Wonder what Ym, Lift, or Jasnah are broken from. If they're broken at all. I think it may be more of a metaphor. Honestly, being Honorable in RL is costly usually. It is almost never beneficial to the individual, because they are usually socially minded rather than selfishly motivated. So an individual acting with the interests of others might be considered broken, as they can allow things like self sacrifice. Which mother nature might find slightly defunct.

Something you need to consider Porridge is that philosophy and attitude, are very often very similar amongst family members. If the driving patriarch or matriarch of a family insist on something being the foundation of a family, it usually will be. So the Kholins being Honorable, is not unusual or out of placed, even for magic. WHY does everyone feel that Spiritual damage is requisite for magic?

They were the first, I think, is the first to lay down the Shards. And the last I think, it's that they were AMONG the last Radiants. No more spren were allowed/willing to bond with people after this betrayal. Edited for grammar.

Storm-light might not be the only source of energy
DocHoliday replied to Arook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It doesn't sound nice, but the fact that Kaladin is staring at a head larger than a massive thunder head, and doesn't feel intimidated by looking lends me to believe that the face at least isn't aggressive or evil looking. -
I've been reading WoK recently, and I just came to the part where Shen joins Bridge 4. Kaladin very specifically says, "it's not like he's a spy." That my friends is the literary tool called foreshadowing.

Ya, I've brought that up few times. Isn't it ironic that a common fields woman from the Dark Ages knows more than Jasnah about Religion? Makes me chuckle imagining Brandon smirking when he thought that up.

What is inside Shallan's father's safe

You want a dodgy lullaby? How about one where a baby gets dropped from 40' in the air and dies. Rock a by baby in the tree top. When the wind blows the cradle will rock And when bough breaks will fall And down will come baby, cradle all. -
LoL I couldn't remember if it was double andit take some away. Or half it and take some. Mystery solved

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
DocHoliday replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
How about your plans just went to Hell, and Kaladin's squad just saved those 10,000 lives; and there is no theoretical possibility about it. It happened. That Shardbearer was wrecking havoc on the army, I have no trouble imagining major percentages dieing. Zero gratitude for the dudes who clearly have the same agenda, keeping everyone alive and standing up when something threatens. Teft says not all the KR got along so maybe this will be one of those instances. -
I always thought it was: The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

First and foremost, I accidentally down voted this post while trying to quote, if some one would correct it, it would be appreciated. Chickens are definitely from Shinovar, as Tarion pointed out. My impression was that Shallon was responsible. The world ended and it was her fault. Kinda telling. I don't think the jewel is necessary, just touching the Blade in general and saying 'bye' comes y to mind. Adolin crushes it to make a point. Kaladin killed the Shardbearer. Bonds don't get much more broken than that Ya it'll be interesting seeing the characters from something besides POV. Adolin dealing with Kaladin comes to mind.

LoL, I remember when it was a wee little sprout counting down the minutes... God I'm old... lmao Nah, I don't blame you for not doing through it. I didn't have to work today so I was there for every minute of it.

You are correct. The Azish man with the crescent is definitely Darkness; presumed to be Nalan Herald of Justice. Funny thing is, I think the other guy is also a Herald. Referring to Shalash, as Ash is personal. As in has had extensive contact with said person. So I don't think this is one of Darkness' flunkies speaking. Jezrien may have also been the drunk drooling, have you seen me? At the same party, but that is wild speculation at this point.

Should I buy the hard cover or ebook of WoR?
DocHoliday replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Don't get me wrong, I love detailing art work and looking at the multitude of extravagant details. Unfortunately Endowment didn't bestow a bank account to support everything I could wish for. (Which is generally everything BS ATM.. ) If I could reconcile in my mind that it was acceptable for me to do both, I would. RL gets in the way though. Man that mountain gets heavy sometimes. -
Gamma I do not want to see this thread dissolve into another Amaran morale breakdown. Can we please move on? Edit: I do appreciate your inspection into the possible ramifications of Dalinar hugging Amaran, in Kaladin's eyes. He may be more trusting of Dalinar since he freed him. But I got a feeling is going to go differently than you describe. Kaladin is in a public place, in front of perhaps hundreds of people. Amaran and Dalinar are close enough for him to overhear their conversation. I would put that at a range of 20' maximum. If Amaran so much as makes eye contact with Kaladin, I see a scene occurring. A very public scene. Amaran :who is that Darkeyes with a suspicious large empty circle of reference around him? Dalinar: oh that's the best of my bodyguard! Sadeas hung him upside down in a Highstorm and he's alive! Then he saved my life after Sadeas turned tail like a (cat). So I freed him! Can you imagine anyone enslaving someone That incredible? Kaladin! C'mere! Kaladin: Hi. Remember me?
