Brass doesn't affect the brain? What is your Source? As for Iron and Steel, you ALWAYS have weight. Even in space, 10,000 miles away from Earth you DO have weight. Granted, it is near zero but still there. This is because weight is actually a measurement of the amount of force GRAVITY is exerting on you at any given time. And because it is provisionally impossible to escape our universe at this time, you will always be affected by gravity. The idea of weightlessness is actually just your body and mind trying to understand the severe reduction of force on your being. Your questions on points of origin for time bubbles are interesting, but essentially pointless since bubbles affect the area around you, rather than a specific point on your person. Pewter on the other hand I am rather interested in. My gut says it effects everything at once..but I'd actually like to be proven wrong here. If there is a singular point on the body that is nearest to the Investiture you have...this would be MUCH food for thought. Unfortunately every Pewter user seems to feel a sudden increase in power across all aspects of its properties instead of a gradual increase.

Possibly. Far easier would be to give him VERY minute traces of the metals. We ingest most of them regularly in small quantities regularly as it is.

That was due to the ash mounts. Check out the sun the next time there's a large fire in your vicinity. Scadrial' s was likely a regular yellow star

You make an excellent point here. It IS a subtle difference, but it's a descriptive one; open to interpretation. My impression was that Leras looked kinda like a clear trash bag filling with fog from dry ice. The same material is on both sides of the bag, but air currents/flows/whatever clearly depict a "form" in the Mist. You prefer Mario ghosts with a white sheet over their head? Leras clearly didn't have any physical description beyond his outline until he died. That said, how do you see a shape the Mist; and KNOW it's a person, unless it's the outline/figure of a human ?

I got a feeling that if LightSong fell from the balcony, then he dies unfulfilled. The future CAN'T be set in stone, for instance you see you will have a boy named Josh next year. Instead you name him Jake. It's little, but it can have a huge ripple effect on important events. So, to me, yes. You can absolutely change your mind about what you want to do with your information of the future. Just cause BlushWeaver wants to prepare for war doesn't mean she has to gather Lifeless Commands. She could go WarBreaker route instead. In short, just cause you know the destination, doesn't mean you know the journey to get there.

Whew, you know you did read most of this right? 34: We have no information. 35:We have no information. 36: It is a unique Spren, presumably with its traits written down somewhere, preserving its singular purpose of watching the Origin. We have no further information. 37: Through Honorable action/living. 38:We've been RAFOed. 39:they don't speak backwards. They speak honestly. If what they're trading is trash in their eyes, they say so. The Shin think Szeth is worthless, that doesn't mean the Parshendi do or Taravengian. 40: there are no Highstorm in Shinovar, we assume there is a connection but don't know. 41:We don't have a clue.

Except Vasher killed her with Nightblood...I always looked at the process of Returning being alot like everyday life with a schedule. You die, Endowment wakes you up, shows you the near-future, Endowment OFFERS a second chance to change it, and you CHOOSE to Return and its allowed. Now here is the tricky part. When you wake up there is no memory to guide you, there is no over riding destiny or Fate. Your life goes on the same as before, you wake, you eat, you talk just like before. But sooner or later the reason you Returned comes around. Maybe all you have to do is give up a Breath. But you could just as likely have to live your life honorably just to inspire someone, to stop the thug mugging Vivenna, so she doesn't starve, so she saves Vasher, etc.. My point is you had a goal when you Returned. You CHOSE that goal, and that goal is your destiny because you made it so. That goal is worked towards, every little thing adds up to it, it is not defined as a singular moment but as a singular purpose.

29:My theory: The Parshendi are and are not Voidbringers, depending on their form (WoR)
30: Why is the US watching Iran so closely? Everyone watches the guy with a big stick. Hiding the weapons keeps Alethekar interest at a minimum.
31: The Parshendi are very much aware that the is something afoot concerning Odium(whether they know about Odium or not), they killed Gavilar to stop him from doing who knows what. Maps are used to determine where locations are and how to reach them. My theory is the Parshendi were/are looking for Urithuru.
32: yes fabriels are real, working, pieces of machinery. Navani uses one for pain near the end of WoK.
33: I believe the triangles are Ghostbloods ? There is no known connection at this time beyond that Kabsal pretended be was a member of the Ardents.

This is a very interesting thread, but without my books I feel the need to disagree.
I think you've put a neat twist on what is actually kinda mundane.

You know...if near-omnipotent, insubstantial, magical ghosts are mundane..

..Back to topic. We have to keep in mind that prior to the Deepness, and during certain daylight hours, there is no Mist on Scadrial. The Mist is obviously white. Ghosts are transparent, meaning the Mist would make the outline look white. Now imagine the same translucent outline with no white background. You have an insubstantial outline being touched by wind/dust/dirt, you name it. Any matter touching it, is by default darker than the Mist.

Nature of the conflict between Odium and Honor
DocHoliday replied to KevThinker's topic in Cosmere Discussion
WoB is that Odium has put more Investiture into Roshar than he wants. It has also been kicked around the forums that perhaps Odium has corrupted Spren, Shardblades, or people with that Investiture.WoR tells us that there are at least 'Odium spren' floating around. It seems perfectly likely Odium tainted the Shardblade as well to me.There are a lot of theories out there concerning the Oathpact, but until we have another book (and hopefully ALOT of input from Talendel) we don't have enough information to come to anything conclusive. What we DO have is a very important word. Oathpact. Oath PACT.The definition of which is an agreement or bargain. Both sides have to offer something for the other party to gain or there can be no agreement. So we have to ask our selves, what a are the priorities of both parties? Odium wants to be the only Super-power in the Cosmere. We have very little information about Honor's motives. Obviously he wants to be honorable, but apparently he has a desire to protect the humans from the Tranquiline Halls. ._. o_o O_O HOLY **** He has the desire to "protect those who cannot protect themselves." Ideal #2 I would like to propose the idea that Honor's agenda included all 41 of the Knights Radiant ideals. -
#pokes bear with stick#

Maybe I'm just biased, but it's the cute cuddly seemingly harmless characters that I'm most worried about in just about anything. * cough Taravengian cough* My whole point is that seemingly innocent characters might not stay that way. Life happens, death happens, and when **** hits the fan, people can undergo huge shifts in philosophy and what is acceptable to them.

Now to wave the flag, from what we've seen of Renarin, he is an inherently devoted character with virtues that Alethekar has dismissed. I like him, and I see a lot of me in him. That doesn't mean BS can't whip out a head snapping event to change who he fundamentally is in 20 years.

#flees in terror of Feather wrath#

Theory: Odium pitted Devotion and Dominion against each other
DocHoliday replied to thek9's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I totally get that, my apologies. It was like 4 A.M. and this new prescription keeps me awake.. -
LoL I play around with a WoT D20 RPG, I love getting inventive with Channeling, particularly Air. It's such an under appreciated Power. I'll drop labyrinths on battlefield with one long weave, scoop earth with it into a barricade around me and send the Air weave into blasting out add a wall. Personal fav is make Swords of Fire, like 5 or 6, tie off and wield them with Air like a Jedi. Traveling is just mean in my game. Messenger Boy stole my idea though...I usually use water, but lava is good to lol

Ten of thousands of Blades and Plates are just as likely to be missing as a thousand. (Man that sounds weird to say). These artifacts are the RL equivalent of Nukes. Losing a thousand nukes is unlikely. Losing 10 thousand is also unlikely. But if someone/ group had the time, money, and ability to steal a thousand nukes from America, it's not so far fetched they can take 10x that number.Edit: alright it is more unlikely, but is it prohibitively more unlikely?

Ahh Plato my old friend. How I hate you some days.LoL Thinking about The Republic and how long people lived, just wanted to back Kurk up that people have had a life span roughly equivalent to modern day life spans even in ancient Greece. Problem was, that dieing from the flu, war-fare, and dehydration were much more common. So like he said, if you made it to adult hood you were pretty much set.

Theory: Odium pitted Devotion and Dominion against each other
DocHoliday replied to thek9's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I have to disagree that Devotion and Dominion are not polar opposites. People are interpreting Devotion as love, but it's so much more. It's mindset. To use the cake example below, you can indeed love and control a cake at the same time, but you cannot devote yourself completely to it, and dominate its "life" completely. The 2 simply aren't compatible. Now when it comes to Aona Skai battling. I can see that because they ARE opposites. Especially in a Mexican stand off situation. Skai kills Aona. Rayse kills Skai. Etc. Concerning the Letter. You gotta understand. BS has 9 more books planned for SA, and that sly devil has who knows how many more Cosmere books. BS is very aware that the .17th Shard takes every word he utters and picks it apart for information. He doesn't, and shouldn't, lay all his cards on the table. Long story short, what he doesn't say is almost as important as what he does say. EDIT: Rewrote paragraph 2 -
Glad I'm not the only one who considered this possibility. But I have to ask... Has anyone considered he might be seeing/ bonding a Void Spren? I see a lot of opposition here to against ALL the Kholins beginning Radiants. What if Renarin ends up as an anti hero? Granted he is devoted to his brother. He is courageous and leaps to his father's defense against a chasm fiend. So we know there is familial devotion. But these are the things that create shock and awe in a reader. Like Anakin turning on Obi-Wan. Like Warbreaker. This could be a matter of perspective. After all, we have zero insight into Renarin without a POV. Outside actions do not necessarily reflect interior motive.

The Two Forms and Three Names of the Dragon (theory)
DocHoliday replied to Cartith's topic in The Wheel of Time
Your ideas are interesting Gamma but I disagree. Topo is more in line with my views. There was a sequence in book 3 (2?) where Rand is in a dream and Ishmael is telling him they have battled a thousand times (Topo). Ishmael continues to say however that the Dragon has turned to the Dark before. Yet the Shadow didn't win? It seems to me that the victory scenario was the Dragon destroying the Pattern. The Dark One sought the destruction of the Wheel and Ishmael knew it. There is even a mention of it in MoL. "The others crave power and rule. I know better. We will rule for a time...Then nothing." -
Theory on the Physics of Allomancy (and some Feruchemy)
DocHoliday replied to Scriptorian's topic in Mistborn
Just a note to add to name_ here, Allowmancers are definitely able to set the amount of acceleration of there Pushes. I.E. Zane "balancing" a few feet above a fountain. -
(Spoilers) Your biggest "WHAT THE---?!"
DocHoliday replied to firstRainbowRose's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I knew Vin wasn't the HoA in the first line. "I am unfortunately the Hero." Definitely not her. I kinda thought Kelsier had a pariah plan up his sleeve midway through Mistborn. I think the first punch in the gut, IDK why, was OreSeur was TenSoon. I just thought he/it? And Vin had a serious connection that blew her and Ellend out of the water. The betrayal was just too perfect after the discovery of how closely their personalities matched..intrigue just draws me in :-P -
Having read the OP, I am reminded of the great Rick James. "Cocaine is a helluva drug."

Quick, somewhat baseless Oathpact theory
DocHoliday replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
TY for the detailed response Gloom. While not everything I posted was pure canonized fact, what I did post in bullets was intended to help us build ourselves a tower of "facts" to reach some sort of conclusions. I'd like to point out Isomere that the very nature of a pact of any sort is an agreement between two or more parties. I emphasize agreement. Involuntarily forcing someone to agree to your terms is a form of extortion. Given that the Almighty is gone, it seems unlikely he was ever in a position to dictate to another Shard that "This is how it's gonna be!". And it is the Oathpact . I certainly agree that the Heralds are apart of it, and as the representatives of Honor that would imply he to is involved, much as an ambassador speaks for his/her nation. Though you do make a point that we don't know the specifics of when it was established. WoB its that Odium came to Roshar long after Honor did. However it is entirely possible this was a requisite of the Oathpact. Gloom makes excellent points concerning the idea of the Oathpact' s nature. It is a set of rules in addition to whatever the Laws of Shardic nature allow. What seems most important to me, is what would Honor or Odium gain from agreeing to the rules of combat. Gloom's WoB that any Investiture from another Shard, willing or not, will change Odium' s intent. So my idea of a bribe is out. What does Honor have that Odium wants? Odium' s goal is the shattering of every Shard. So the only thing Honor has to offer is his Shard. Either up front or by making it easier(or taking less time) to shatter his Shard. Either that our giving up Cultivation's Shard, which is a really, really long shot. The only reason I can see that in any way being beneficial to Tanavast, is because he needs to buy time. He ( supposedly) was ejected from the Tranquiline Halls. Perhaps the Oathpact was his way of getting to buy time to recuperate? -
Kalladin wood weapon against a Sharplate or Clasmfiend ?
DocHoliday replied to Natans's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's along those same lines but no forward curve, much heavier, and close to about 5 or 6 feet in length. I want to say falchion but I know that's not right... -
Quick, somewhat baseless Oathpact theory
DocHoliday replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
We're on the right track Gloom. The Oathpact occurred after Honor came to Roshar. Culture also came to Roshar at the same time.(Correct?) Odium came to Roshar(followed Honor?) The Oathpact had to have some thing appealing in it for Odium to agree The Oathpact had to have something appealing inn it for Honor to agree Culture might not be bound by the Oathpact The Oathpact allows for Desolations to occur The Oathpact allows for Champions of Honor The Oathpact allows for Champions of Odium (though he apparently didn't use them(speculation)) Odium can be forced to choose Champions The Oathpact sends Honors champions to Hell between Desolations; which in some manner keeps Odium bound. The Heralds abandon the Oathpact. Honor dies centuries later The current (Final) Desolation begins centuries after that What we need to figure out is what Odium can gain from all this nonsense I just typed The Shards are able to war on one another freely prior to the Oathpact. So why would Odium halt what appears to be his advancement on Honors forces? He booted them from the Tranquiline Halls and then stopped. Rather than rout his enemy he bound himself to gladiator like combat with rules and stipulations. I think he was bribed. I'm wondering if Honor didn't up the stakes of their fight to a winner takes all Investiture kind of thing. We know Odium wants no out side intent to interfere with his own Shardic intent, but what of Investiture? Can he siphon off power freely given?
