  1. Ever heard the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Warbreaker, Elantris, Mistborn all carry themes of something gone terribly wrong in religion. A lot of media today is just rehashing of a great show or theme. Why can't Cosmere works continue in a similar vein?
  2. Oh absolutely, didn't mean to imply individual chapters so much as a methodology.
  3. okay friend, chill for a second. I agreed with you, Derethil wasn't headed to the Origin. I should have reread the tale first, admittedly so, and I already admitted that my OP has been disproved. What more do you want from me? I want aware I had to specifically tell anyone I was embarrassed, since that failure was self-evident. Now to return to my confusion: I just didn't understand your assertion why the Storms making it to the Western edge of the continent should limit the location of Urithuru. My claim was that Urithuru is where the Storms stops. I further expounded to say that if Urithuru was on the continent this would also be disproved. As to the location of Urithuru, the exact location is a mystery. If you want my take, its the polar opposite of the Origin and the Highstorms travel the globe and stop at Urithuru. I have no evidence, it's just fancy; as I said, just a pet theory.
  4. define physical enhancements? Specifically, does the body physically change(muscular) or are we referring Physical Allowmancy?
  5. I'm a little confused by your post Hoser. I read your Hoid' s story, and you're quite correct, he wasn't headed to the Origin, I think I just connected the two in my head. As far as the Storms not making it to Urithuru, you just started that the Storms make it to the Western coast. If Urithuru is on the continent then this would disprove my idea, but I had the impression from the death rattles that Urithuru was not on the continent but somewhere West of it. Meg' s WoB helps support this. As to my original Thread, the whole premises has been disproved
  6. Holy S#!+ Odium. That wall of text could stop a million men lol. I read that out loud in one breath and I'm changing Color On Topic: Has anyone every asked Brandon how many (in Cosmere) 17th Sharders there are? Just 3? 'Cause men of red and gold could be referring to Lightsong priests. Oh BTW Odium. Lerasium alloys grant Misting abilities instead of Mistborn from our Lerasium
  7. A ship surviving a storm is much different from sailing a storm. I don't s see anyone even considering going out into a Highstorm on land, much less working the sails or manning a rudder at sea. Also I'm not sure people know the world is round on Roshar, at least there's no mention of it. The kingdoms we know of all lie on one massive continent. And it might even be the Pangaea of Roshar. This is also more a Theory of mine, but I think the storms stop at Urithuru, not continue around the world back to the Origin. There's mention that people wanted to build the city in the West, closest to Honor. It makes a degree of sense that Odium is at the Origin and Honor was at Urithuru.
  8. I swear you're a stalker Phantom. LoL first post again
  9. It's not that his goal is to kill off people, IMO. killing people is a means to an end. I think WoB is that Odium wants to shatter all the Shards and be the only/greatest power in the Cosmere. Elantris But why would people need to be around for Splintering?
  10. Okay so we all know Hoid has some secret meaning/metaphor when he told Kaladin the story of Derethil' s voyage. Perhaps there's a message, or perhaps he was just trying to help steer Kaladin out of his depression. Has anyone noticed the direction of Derethil' s voyage though? Throughout WoK, everyone says that the Origin is to the East. Derethil sailed West. Why? The Origin appears to be common knowledge even amongst Dark-Eyed peasants. Derethil's vessel was supposed to be capable of surviving a Highstorm' s wrath, so it's not like he was trying to ride the band of clear weather between storms. Any ideas EDIT: this theory has been disproved; Derethil voyage was not headed for the Origin.
  11. I've read that Thread Isomere. I'm just not sure I agree. Cultivation still being around seems to me to be a far better reason for Odium to still be sticking around. All though perhaps romantically involved did for the double conscience you describe
  12. You make a point about delineation. My idea was more or less to outline specifically what we saw Surge-binding/Soul-casting/Voidbringing wise and then to extrapolate Cosmere implications as we go. If not by Chapter, what criteria would you like to see threads separated by?
  13. LoL Kindle didn't recognize Cosmere yet. I'm of the opinion that Chapter subsections would allow for quicker access to specific information. Perhaps others feel that this is a hobby, but I was thinking this reread to be more of focused analysis of the little information we have from WoK. Really the book only touches on a several very important, and a chapter by chapter in-depth review might help some of us dissect some much needed information. Also I'm not so much for telling everyone what they have to say, so much as I'm requesting that information be specifically tagged as to what it relates to. Edit: grammatical errors
  14. I'm not an expert by any means, but Roshar weather indicates that it's axis is not only tilted like Earth' s, but the axis rotates around another center of rotation, like a top that's about to fall over, wobbling. The seasons are not regular in sequence, winter can turn into spring, summer, or fall, and vice versa.
  15. Hmm. Honor points out stars going dark in Dalinar's last vision. Is there a timeframe for Silence Divine? More pertaining does it occur prior to Honor demise? Also, do we have any confirmation that honor and cultivation came to Roshar at the same time? People refer to the Almighty and the Tranquiline Halls repeatedly, but NOONE talks about Cultivation. Alot of theories have been proposed about Honor coming to Roshar...but why is there then no mention of his counterpart?
  16. Even in Alethekar Highprinces don't have any particular governmental rights. In times past they did, but until recently Alethekar want even a nation; Gavilar united them into a nation and now Elohkar has only recently reinstituded the idea of Highprince of Inquisition/War etc...
  17. You've taught me something new about my Kindle LoL still learning how to use it. You are quite correct, about numerous references to leaves. Interestingly enough, nearly half of the references are to Syl appearing. Universally the leaves are treated more as appendages on the plants and shrubs. It's entirely possible that my own prejudices of what leaves look like on Earth are coloring my perceptions, but I received the impression from those same references that leaves are quite large on Roshar. I also searched trees and located references to some forests near the Shattered plans, which are owned by Sadeas. I wonder again however . If forest is the same g thing on Roshar as Earth.
  18. I'm game. Perhaps a Subsection of WoK forums, and threads separating epigraphs and chapters? Possibly having everyone delineate posts into subsections Ex: I: Chapter summary II: Magic Implications III: Cosmere Implication commerce to Cosmere.
  19. Marriage vows? That's alittle weak, but I think it's on the right track. it's more important to note in my opinion the separation of the masculine and feminine arts. As far as I'm aware that limits us to war-fare...perhaps the Alethi War codes ? Or it might be simple vernacular. "Tell my brother, he must find the most important words he can say" just doesn't carry the same weight.
  20. Ya my mistake was thinking Vasher was giving Commands, not orders.
  21. Sorry double post. And thank you for the correction. Been a minute since I read Warbreaker
  22. Perhaps I didn't say it right. Vasher' s cloak is not human and doesn't understand what Fight For Me means. Awakening essentially Breaths life and understanding into an object. Complex Command certainly cost more Breath. Skill comes into play because a poor Command or mental image causes either A: the Awakening to fail all together, using Breath to no effect or B: cause the Awakened Object to act in ways unintended. My understanding is that a poor idea or grasp of what it is you want to see happen can Breath more understanding than is necessary for what you want to happen. Phantom: I don't think we're seeing the same Command in use with the squirrel as we don't see Lifeless Run Around, Make Lots of Noise, Bite People =P. It does Invest an unreturnable Breath though.
  23. Iffy. I was trying to communicate that Commands leave a degree of ambiguity to the object. Vasher' s cloak isn't human and doesn't understand what Fight For Me is. Awakening essentially Breaths life into an object and understanding. A complex Command DOES cost more Breath, because a greater degree of understanding is required in the object. This is where skill comes into play. A poor Command (mental image) causes an Awakening to fail or act in a way unintended. I'm off the opinion that a better grasp of what you want done specifically can reduce the cost of Breath because nothing is wasted in giving the object more understanding than is required. That was my take anyway. As to the squirrels I don't think it's the same Command used, as we don't see Lifeless Run Around, Make Lots of Noise, Bite People. . It does Invest a unreturnable Breath EDIT: squirrel notes
  24. The closer an awakened construct is to a human, the fewer breaths required for it to be awakened regardless of Command. The Awesome Lifeless Command works so well partly because of the material used. Namely a whole human body, the ichor-alcohol standing in as a preservative for the body. The other factor being the Awakener's skill, I.e. imagining what they effect they want the Command to do. A fully formed, cohesive thought reduces the breath cost.
  25. I assume the20% population came from the fact that the only people who survived were those in the caverns. Since the largest group of surviving Terrismen made their way to the Kandra homeland, which was certainly saved by Sazed.
