Despite her teeth chattering from the cold, Athdara was smiling brightly as she crossed the University grounds. She was finally here. Finally able to start studying Alchemy for real. But it wasn't just that. It was everything the University could offer. Alchemy was her true passion, but how could she pass up the chance to learn the other disciplines as well? She’d stay a student forever, if she could. The building she was looking for loomed just ahead. She started to jog toward it, though not just to get out of the cold. Once inside, she shook and stomped to free herself of the snow that had collected on her jacket and boots. “Oh, it’s cold,” she said to no one in particular, mostly because no one was around. They’d likely already filed through the hallways to find their classrooms. As Athdara looked around, she saw a surprising lack of signs to help her find her way. It was no bother to her, though. She was plenty early and a little wandering never hurt anyone. Before long, she’d found her classroom and a seat inside. She turned to the person next to her, offering her hand with an introduction. “Hello, I’m Athdara Tolmach. You can call me Athy. What’s your name?” --- Finally checking in. Quick observation about the voting on nobles thing. There are only 9 of us, but 27 players total. Even if we do spread the votes out on the nobles, that's still a significant number of complaints if the only votes remain on nobles. Yes, I understand we can financially handle it better than others, but the tuition increase is balanced fairly well with simply posting. 1 vote = 1 complaint = +1 jot to tuition Single post = -5 jots So if every person were to accrue one vote, but still post just once (not even counting RP and discussion posts), they'd still have a -4 jots to tuition. If we do keep all votes on nobles, that also increases the chances they will be brought on the Horns. Masters have 5 DP they give out to people with at least one complaint. @Elbereth @little wilson, do the NPC Masters give out all 5 DP every turn? If so, then there's potential for all 9 to be brought on the Horns right away, or if RNG hates someone enough, for someone to get expelled right away. However, if commoners and nobles all have a single vote, the chances of someone getting enough DP from RNG is much lower. For that reason, I suggest some votes on commoners as well. I'll start with Straw (@Straw), since they've posted enough to make up for the +1 jot from the complaint.

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thank you @Elbereth and @little wilson for running this game and working with all the crazy rule suggestions. It was very fun. Good game, @Straw. You made some fantastic arguments that kept the village from focusing on you too much. Even though I suspected you of being the Smedry, I wasn't willing to act on it because of your math analysis. I wish we had gotten to see the jail mechanics actually used, though I do understand why they weren't really useful applied. I'd like to mess with it a bit to find a way to make jailing with mechanics like criminal plausible.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!

This is certainly a strange and sudden turn of events. Does it feel weird to anyone else that there was a sudden surge to protect Experience? Almost as if his teammates finally jumped in? I do agree we need to kill the Knights first, which is why I haven't been joining the lynches on you. As I've posted previously, I suspect you are the Smedry. That post was more a suggestion that if we're certain of the Smedry and have no leads on a Knight, we shouldn't wantonly kill villagers. It was also made under false assumptions that there may not even be a Knight left.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
We're down to seven, with at least one Smedry and one or two Knights (the latter assuming two at the start, with successful conversions N1 and N3). If the paper tosser can help us narrow down who isn't the Smedry (based on who has been blocked when successful kills go through), we can focus on the Knights right now. Experience - Possible Knight. Has been mostly going with the flow on lunches. Doubtful Smedry. Would also have been a decent conversion target for the lack of attention. Straw - Probably not a Knight. I'm not sure as to his village/Smedry alignment, but I'm not down with a lynch here. Kidpen - A possible Knight convert. Had suggested going after the less active players, but happens to be one of them. Actually, most players fit in that category at the moment, tbh. Zillah - Unsure, but I lean full village at this point. Sart - Same as Kidpen, though a slightly more village lean. Shqueeves - Same as Kidpen. This leads me to Experience. Sorry it's not much to defend against. Though now that I think about it, some of your claims last cycle did feel a bit off, like you may have accidentally revealed stuff you learned in a doc.- 421 replies

I agree with Sart's choice. Now is not the time to be jailing people and losing the opportunity to learn their role/alignment, so a last-minute vote to guarantee a lynch over a jail was a good thing.- 421 replies

If there is another Knight. It is possible Ironfire never made a conversion, which may have contributed to going inactive. I agree, if there is another Knight, they should be the primary target, but we shouldn't discount killing someone just because we think they may be a Smedry rather than a Knight. Anyone with a roleblock, now is the time to be free with using it. There aren't many useful village abilities, other than roleblocks in play, but the right target could stop a conversion or kill, buying us a little more time.- 421 replies

Alright, we need a bit more chat happening here if we're going to find the Smedry and possible remaining Knights. Experience - If you had a night kill to use, who would you use it on and why? Straw - What do you think is the bigger threat at the moment: The Smedry, or Knights? Why? Kidpen - @Kidpen If you could roleblock anyone, who would it be and why? Coda - @Coda Who is your biggest suspicion at the moment? Why? Zillah - Same as Experience. xinoehp512 - @xinoehp512 What role do you think is most important at this stage in the game? Sart - @Sart Same as Kidpen. Shqueeves - @Shqueeves Same as Experience. For now, I'm going to place a vote on Coda for the same gut read as I had last cycle.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Back a little earlier than expected. Based on Straw's review, Ironfire likely forgot about the PM requirement rather than failing from inactivity. That makes me wonder about the possibility of a teammate, since a teammate should help remind them. This suggests either a less active Knight, or the Knights are totally gone. Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!

After about 7 a.m. PST, I'm going to be unavailable for at least 24 hours. I don't think I'll be in an area with cell reception. I'm going to leave my vote on Coda. I have some relative trust for Striker at the moment, and Coda seems to be more hesitant about being involved in actual game-related discussion than they have in the past, which is probably the source of my gut read.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think it was more of a statement in regards to the enjoyment of the game as a whole. Getting rid of an entire faction D1 is a bit bittersweet. Great that we caught a threat and are one step closer to our win-con, but a bit disappointing that an entire part of the game, especially one which causes so much intrigue as a conversion, is gone so early.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gut reads can be good as well, even without reasoning. More than once I've found my gut read on someone is more accurate, but I logic my way out of acting on it because there's nothing overtly suspicious to present as reasoning. It would give be others a place to look for analysis, even if you aren't available right away. ----- Rainier studied the group around her, adjusting her horn-rimmed glasses. Some were oblivious hushlanders. Some were librarians like her, though she did not know them personally. Others were Free Kingdomers surprisingly well hidden in the group. At least the talkative child had been dealt with. What a strange choice to send as a representative of the Crystin. This would be a containment nightmare, though. Librarians in charge here were probably already scrambling for a reasonable excuse for what had been happening. Rainier was relieved it wouldn't be her own job this time. This was supposed to be a vacation, lacking in worries about the chaos brought by the Smedrys and Free Kingdomers. But of course she'd be so unlucky.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Interesting. I've been discussing this in a PM and I think I disagree with you on the point of taking away leads. If I were a Smedry, I'd try to leave a Knight alive as long as possible to be a distraction. A conversion can be more threatening as it leaves a lot of doubt in previous reads. A less experienced player would be the likelier candidate in this case, as they'd be more likely threatened by Fifth's reputation as a player than consider the usefulness of a red herring.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright, let's get on with this. I'm not against a TGK lynch, but this also shouldn't be the end of discussion. We have an unaffiliated Smedry to be hunting (and a possible new convert). Experience - Neutral with village lean. Has been involved and posting often. Their reasoning for voting Coda D1 didn't really resonate, though, since it was because Coda stated they were not in favor of revealing PM partners. That could be more differing opinion than actual suspicious behavior. Straw - Neutral. I doubt he's a Knight, but could still be a Smedry. Has made some posts that help get discussion going, but from what I remember most of his offered opinions aren't really alignment indicative so far. Kidpen - Neutral. This line from a D1 post of his sticks out to me as a possibly good idea that got lost in the shuffle. Doing this may help track actions without it being too common of knowledge. Still worth taking caution, as we can only trust PM partners as far as we can throw them, but something to consider at least. A Joe in the Bush - Neutral with village lean. Not a Knight because of leading the lynch on Elkanah. However, that's a win-con of Smedry and Librarians, so it doesn't mean he's totally cleared. Coda - Neutral. Most of their posts so far were in code with TGK. I'm tempted to lean slightly village because of wanting a lynch over jailed, but Smedry would also want as much information and as much death as possible. Striker - Village lean. Posts seem honest. Kynedath - @Kynedath, I haven't seen you around a lot. What do you think about Fifth being the kill target last night? Elandera - I don't think I'm suspicious, but that might just be me. Zillah - Village lean. Playstyle seems to follow the same they've had in other village!Zillah games. xinoehp512 - Neutral. Has made good mechanics-based posts and has reasonable votes so far, but not entirely discounting the possibility they're Smedry. Ironfire - Neutral. @Ironfire, do you think there was a second Knight and/or a conversion last night? Sart - Neutral with village lean. Not likely a knight as they were the other main candidate for lynch against Elkanah. Still possibly a Smedry. The lynch train on them still fells off, which is why I lean village. The God King - Likely Knight. Insistence that those who lynched Elkanah rather than jailed are suspicious is what's most odd to me. My only hesitation is how much he aligned with Elkanah after the lynch votes swung toward him. Shqueeves - @Shqueeves, are you aware of any actions that were taken last night (outside of the obvious kill or new PMs)?- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry, I've been a bit busy the last 24 hours trying to install a fence. A few quick thoughts. I am going to look more into TGK and Fifth in regards to their stances around the lynch yesterday. Joe already stated what approximates my own thoughts in regards to TGK. Fifth also had similar patterns, though less outspoken. I did see Elkanah's edit to his last post, but believe it to be misdirection. I doubt an every-other-cycle conversion would have been applied to a team that started with only one player. The only thing that makes me hesitant in that regard is the Knight faction was designated with purple, which is the traditional neutral faction. That's more meta, though, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt.- 421 replies

Even a lockup D1 can indicate possible alliances in the future, so it's not totally useless. And it would allow a player to still be involved beyond day one. I do understand the hesitance though, with lack of information learned immediately. The Sart lynch doesn't feel right to me. More than one person at least talked about voting as a result of the codes in the thread, so why should someone who actually acted be the one to take the fall? I'll vote on Elkanah. I agree it's too late for true RNG. It feels like a way to vote without being blamed for the outcome.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm split on revealing or not. On one hand, the current PMs are random and would help us better know possible sources for the tons of roleblocks out there. As Fifth said, wide use of roleblocks is a bad thing, so it might help to know who was responsible in order to find out why. On the other hand, it will be easier to find out who is responsible for non-elim actions. Faction kills cannot be tracked with this method. Elims, however, would be able to track protection a little more easily if PM partners were common knowledge. My PMs are not super active. Haven't even had a response in one of them. The other is with someone probably as guarded as me, so information is slow.- 421 replies

Long Game 64: Choose Your Own Sanderson Adventure!
Elandera replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It's not necessarily a lighter thing. It's actually fairly common for more than 50% of the votes cast in one turn to be on one person, which would result in the permanent removal from the game. If we do wish to throw more people in jail than lynch them, we'd need several single votes on a wide range of people to make sure there's a solid lead without a 50% majority. This also means we'd want to have a lot of people show up for votes. If only three people vote, that's guaranteed to kick someone out of the game permanently. ----- Rainier adjusted her horn-rimmed glasses and sniffed at the incessantly loud young girl as they continued the tour of the White House. Where were her parents and why were they not doing anything to stop the noise? It was her first time visiting the East Coast and all of the associated historical sights. She was impressed at the organizational systems at each one, especially the libraries. Each was a perfect representation of stamping out chaos. Except at the White House. The child was still ranting on with her questions, someone else's phone notifications kept sounding, the doors were closing, and the employees were acting shifty. Then Rainier heard something about unusual incidents involving a dead president. What kind of Free-Kingdomer nonsense was happening? For it could only be the Free Kingdomers that could be behind whatever unusual things were happening.- 421 replies
