Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions
Elandera replied to Zillah's topic in Sanderson Elimination
If you don't get enough people by 24hrs before the game, ping me. I should be able to join, so long as I've finished my short story and video project by then. -
Great game! That first cycle was a blast, and it was definitely satisfying to find out my gut read on Vapor C1 was right. Thank you, Straw, for running the game. I look forward to the next I'll be able to join when my hiatus 2.0 is over.
-
That was me. You should have seen my elim doc as soon as I realized my action claim was directly counter to what happened. I thought for sure that was the end of it. Elim docs are great for that purpose. Was this your first time as an elim? This is correct. It's why I wasn't voting, because it didn't count anyways and I didn't want to muddy the vote manipulation waters.
-
Good game everyone, and especially to you, Matrim. I would definitely have voted on you (if my vote mattered at all, and work hadn't been totally busy in the last few hours) with that last claim. But I loved it! It reminded me of my own last-second panic claims as an elim. Overall, I think the village win was almost sheer luck.
-
I understand you're a little suspicious of Gears, but at this point, your vote is very, very non-committal. If you're suspicious of Vapor for jumping on the Gears train, why is that not worth a vote to tie it up? Yes, ties won't be useful at the end of a turn, but there's time for someone to make a decision and break that tie. That might be more telling in the end for other players. Right now, it seems as if you're trying to distance yourself from Vapor without fully throwing them under the bus.
-
Oh, you make a good. Illwei If Straw did put you into the lead on votes, that's not likely teammate distancing. I should go back and confirm that, but don't have the energy to do so, so I'll trust you. It's the way you said it. It was phrased like you were trying to cast doubt on Kas's villageryness. It's a tactic used by some elims to avoid killing the obvious target, and then make people wonder why. As for why I didn't vote on Straw, I didn't see much of a point in it. By the time I got the answers I was looking for (in regards to what type of scan, Straw's response to what action he took, etc.) so many people had already voted. Manipulation to keep Straw alive would have been impossible, so placing my vote would be pointless. This case is different. There are a few options, a few candidates, and my vote and opinion might actually matter.

Not quite tied. Stink voted on him as well, so he's one ahead. The above is partly why I post vote counts occasionally. Most of it though is for myself, especially when there are several votes on different people. Like I nearly put a vote on Elkanah for voting on himself, until I realized that would actually put him tied with Gears and a joke like that isn't worth a lynch IMO. Also, thought this was an QF this morning, so I thought we were running out of time. Also, there's lots of reasons to be chaotic. Sleep deprivation being mine this game. Woo! Others, it's just how they play, like Stink or Alvron. I think the issue most people have with Gears is not the humor behind the claims (though the village claim itself is usually off-putting). It's the super defensiveness that started basically as soon as one vote was placed. That tends to be a new elim tell, especially with newer players. They panic a little when one vote is placed because they think it might start a bandwagon. I know I did it my first elim game. Got lynched D1 as a result. It was terrible. Not quite so guaranteed, but probable. D1 lynches are flimsy, and there is more reason here than most first lynches. But as I said, at least for me, the claim is less of an issue than the extreme defensiveness so early in the turn.
-
I mean, I basically have no reason to be suspicious of you outside of crazy paranoia. If you are an elim, hats off to you, good sir, for the best bus ever. I just don't think that situation called for a bus without totally ruining the game for Devotary. The more I think about it, the fact Illwei brought it up is a bit sus.
-
I have gotten a little more sleep, but am still definitely tired. Regarding Gears, the lynch is meh. It's as good as any reason for a D1 lynch, but I also don't really like the idea of lynching just because their playstyle is slightly different. Also, the bandwagon vote from Vapor is mildly concerning. Votes: Elkanah (2) - Araris, Elkanah Gears (3) - Sart, Joe, Vapor Vapor (2) - Matrim, Elandera Matrim (1) - Illwei That's as much brain as will work this early in the morning. Don't forget actions.

@Kasimir I'm watching you, Kasowski... Always watching. That little part of me is starting to be paranoid because he keeps living, but also, I would have killed Lotus first, too. Yes, Kas is fairly trusted but he doesn't have the same kind of ability as Lotus: target scan. Kas knows a bunch, but has been crippled some by the lack of PMs. Lotus would have kept being a problem is they scanned the right person.
-
Hello. I'd offer a flourishing bow, but I'm afraid I'd break something or someone. Myself included. I am incredibly sleep deprived at the moment, so nonsensical things will be expected for at least a day or two. Sorry. But I am here. Sort of.
-
Alright, I've had a cumulative 8 hours of sleep for the last 3 days, so I'm basically going to be useless with trying to analyze anything. However, let me put down a reads list so there's some data from me for once. Ashbringer - Slightly village, though I want to look more closely at those posts about Straw last turn. I think I missed what everyone is talking about. Matrim's Dice - Unknown, though I want lean village. Araris Valerian - Unknown, though leaning slightly elim. That could be because I'm usually suspicious of them naturally. TJ Shade - Village-ish. I don't remember seeing a ton from them while I've been in the game, but nothing really seems off there. Frozen Mint - Unknown, slight village. However, I also consider their vote last turn to be an obviously bad move for an elim. It could draw a lot of attention to be the only vote actively opposing the well-established bandwagon on a teammate. Lotus - Village because of taking down Straw. Illwei - Unknown, slight elim gut read but I don't know why at the moment. Vapor - Village lean Kasimir - Village Lahilt - Unknown StrikerEZ - Unknown EDIT:
-
Thanks! I missed those bits in my skim. As I said when I joined, I'm not going to be following super closely or really analyzing posts. Especially since most of them are made while I'm sleeping. All the arguments I noticed had to do with the Lotus reveal, which didn't sit right with me. With the evidence of the votes as well, a Straw vote makes sense.
-
Hmm. I'm not a fan of the Straw lynch at all. While I don't doubt the target scan, as I said before, there are so many village reasons for someone to have targeted Sart. Please remember this is blackout. Anyone could be lying about their background/disease. Anyone. Even villagers who lack trust. Basing the plausibility of Straw's claim on the numbers provided from other unconfirmed claims is faulty. Is there a reason we suspect Straw more than those other claims? As Kas said, there seem to be a fair number of roleblocks out there. It would make sense if there were anti-roleblocks available, so I don't find that claim to be unreasonable. Is there a different, unrelated reason people are suspicious of Straw?
-
What kind of ability do you have? Did you scan Straw or Sart? Did you see specifically the action taken? I'm hesitantly okay with a Straw Lynch, but need a little more information than this. There are many reasons he may have targeted Sart last night that don't include the kill. @Elkanah @The_God_King, if someone is roleblocked, would it show they targettrd someone in a scan of they attempted but failed because of the block?
-
Oh, I had a thought. If there's an elim with this ability, distancing and "bussing" votes are highly probable to make it look like there are more votes and lure village into complacency.
-
There are a few votes missing, if we consider that at least one person on that list used a double vote ability. But if what Kas said is true about a vote not counting, that's not really surprising.
-
Devotary It's nowhere near close enough to lylo for Start to lie about that scan. If anyone has protection, please cover him.
-
(This is what happens when I don't read anything that happened before I joined ) That still seems like a lot of double votes, but who am I to argue? Especially since the whole game seems ripe with vote manipulations.
-
Thank you for this summary! I do need to participate more. I'm mostly trying to get my feet under me at the moment. The mechanics seem interesting, for sure. First thoughts @Kasimir and @Devotary of Spontaneity, from what I see, I think I side with Devo on this one. I think it's more plausible to have deduced from available information and come up with the conclusion that it was an optional double vote. Kas, it seems you're suggesting the only way she'd be able to pin it down is if she were teammates with either you or Illwei, and in that case, she'd basically just outed two of the teams with a question that wouldn't need to be answered. There is the possibility that there's a third person with that particular ability, but I think that would be way too much double vote potential for a relatively small player list, especially with all the other seeming vote manipulations out there in the world.

Hello! I'll be honest, I probably won't review past cycles a whole lot (brief skims, basically) so I can focus on what's happening currently. If there's been anything important, let me know.

I'll join! Though I won't be quite as analytical as I've been in the past.

I'll take a spec doc link, please!
