  1. Once per gun. If the player who posseses a pistol does not use it prior to their death, it will be returned and available for purchase. Which reminds me, I need to add an item count to the write-up.
  2. "What do you mean there was an attack in the caverns?" Admiral "Ironsides" Ivans was furious. Not only that the Disputers had increased their dissensions to a level of violence, but at herself for not being able to stop it. Not that she was entirely to blame. The Assembly should have been doing more than arguing. "One person dead. A new member of the DDF, hadn't even been assigned yet." Ironsides threw the report down onto her desk. "What about the investigation? Any leads yet?" "We arrested someone this afternoon, but it appears they were not involved with the Disputers. They're still in custody, though, just in case." "Good." At least it will look like they were doing something. Though that wouldn't matter if they didn't stop the Disputers before they killed off her best people. "Ramp up the efforts. See what you can dig up on anyone. Someone had to have seen something." --- Coda was arrested! They were a member of the Defiant Defense Force. Shanerockes was killed! They were a member of the Defiant Defense Force. Vote Count: Coda (3) - Elkanah, Kidpen, Abstrusity StrikerEZ (1) - Rathmaskal Fifth Scholar (1) - StrikerEZ Xinoehp512 (1) - Araris Valerian Kidpen (1) - Fifth Scholar Shanerockes (1) - Sart Player List This turn will end Thursday, February 20 at 10 p.m. PST.
  3. This cycle has ended. The next one should be posted soon, though I'm not sure how soon.
  4. Sign me up for the spec doc please! I'd love to play, but just took on a large project for work.
  5. Buying an item will take your item action slot.
  6. It would cancel both, since it's technically one vote with the power of two. There is no limit to the number of radios available.
  7. Correct. No. They will both appear simply as attacks. Any Gunner's pistol is separate from the number available from the quartermaster. Another general rule announcement! Players can pass both items and requisition chits. Doing so will be the item action for that cycle. Any number of chits/items may be passed to one player in a single action. If you wish to pass to more than one player, it will require more than one action.
  8. It was not a good day for Ironsides. She had more important things to focus on - like the constant battle with the Krell - than some petty uprising among Defiant elites. But instead, she was having to waste away an afternoon in the lower caverns pandering to the National Assembly Leaders. "Admiral, I'm sure you understand the implications of what we're dealing with." "Yes," she said, leveling her gaze at the man who'd addressed her. "While it may become a problem, I'm sure the leaders of this assembly are able to control a rebellion without needing to call me away from Alta." He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, clearly new in his position. Most other members had grown accustomed to her abrasiveness. "Well, we're not sure yet who's involved. We believe some, if not several, may be members of the DDF. Which would put the investigation under your jurisdiction." Ironsides sighed. Of course they'd claim the Disputers would be in the DDF. Anything to avoid doing their jobs. "Fine. I'll get some people working on the problem. Though don't count on it being a problem from inside the DDF. There are plenty of people in the caverns unhappy with your decisions. I'd appreciate if you kept some people of your own investigating this as well." With a curt nod, she turned and walked out of the assembly's meeting hall. Only an hour and she felt like she could go a whole year without more politicking. It made her wonder why she'd accepted the admiral position in the first place. --- Welcome to MR40: A Defiant Rebellion! IMPORTANT RULES ANNOUNCEMENT! Some of the item rules have been adjusted. See spoiler box for further information: This cycle will end at 10 P.M. PST on Tuesday, February 18th. Reminder: PMs are closed unless you have a radio. Those with a radio must still submit the request through the GM. Player List
  9. Sign ups have closed. I'll get role PMs out soon, followed by the first cycle.
  10. There is one more day to sign up to play this game! If you're unable to participate, we'd still enjoy having you in the spec doc. Just let me know!
  11. Sunday the 16th. I'm on vacation currently, so dates don't matter to me.
  12. Only the gunner and attacker die if either the gunner or the protected are targeted.
  13. Welcome to Mid-Range game 40! It takes place about five years before the events of Skyward. A group of Disputers have decided it is time to change the Defiant culture with a little defiance of their own. Rules doc, for better formatting Alignments: Defiant Defense Force - Your job is normally to aid in the effort of battling Krell, but a new threat has risen in the cavern depths that demands your attention. A small number of Disputers - an eccentric counter-culture movement - aim to cripple the DDF. You must stop them before it threatens the survival of the entire Defiant League. The DDF wins when all the Disputers have been arrested or killed. Disputers - Defiant culture has gone too far. The jingoistic teachings are indoctrinating the citizens, and often leading them straight to their deaths. You are members of the DDF who are tired of seeing your friends killed because they feel it is their obligation. While you understand and sympathize with the fight against the Krell, you believe there is a better way. You believe now is the time to start the change and stop the hero-worship of the DDF and First Citizens. The Disputers win when they reach parity with, or out number the DDF members. The Disputers have access to a kill every cycle. Any member can use their role action to submit the kill. General Rules: 48-hour cycles, day/night combined No vote minimum to make an arrest PMs are closed, unless player possesses a radio To create a PM, message the GM with the target. If it is a valid target, the GM will open the communication line at the end of the turn. (See Radio item for further) One role action and one item action per cycle Roles: Items: When a player is arrested or killed, all items are taken back to the quartermaster to be available for purchase. Chits will be distributed randomly among those involved in the arrest or death. Sign-ups will close at 10 p.m. PST on Sunday, February 16. @Devotary of Spontaneity is the IM this game! 14. We're working out the details of who's running both the next MR and LG. Hopefully sign-ups will be posted within the week.
  15. I start with a major apology to @Devotary of Spontaneity, @Kidpen, and @The_God_King. You did wonderfully, considering how broken the mechanics were this game. I procrastinated (surprise, surprise) and didn't take nearly as long as I should have to consider the balance of distribution. I really should have gotten rid of Bastille in favor of more fickle protections (Windstormer's Lenses). There were entirely too many scans and ways to become easily trusted as a villager, but not so easily as elims. Not having a Shaper's Lens helped a little, but not nearly enough. @StrikerEZ's use of the Oculator's Lens was a huge part of getting so many people cleared, which really should not have happened. To explain why I had so many scan mechanics for those who haven't read the books: A major premise of the book is about information. "The Librarians control the information... They control what gets read, what gets seen, and what gets learned. Because of that they have power." One of the biggest points Grandpa Smedry makes about why he prefers the lenses he does is that they are the ones that provide information. So, naturally, I wanted information-gathering to be a major point of the game. But in doing so, it became very, very broken. Also, sorry @Zillah. Your role as Alcatraz was pretty much useless. I created the role when I was building more dangerous lenses for village (firestormer's lenses, and the like). I took those out fairly quickly, but forgot to adjust Alcatraz's mechanics. The Truthfinder's Lens was a trouble. @Feruchemical Skybreaker, I'm sorry you got stuck with that one. It was a fairly unique mechanic, as far as SE goes, and I was not entirely sure how that would work. When we finally figured it out, it was broken. On top of that, though, is the absolutely game-breaking mechanic that could be. As was pointed out quickly, it would be easy to get people to just say their alignment and get them scanned. Thank you all for not doing that en masse. If someone chooses to do this mechanic, I'd put a lot more restrictions on what can and can't be revealed as a lie. @CadCom, sorry about D1 action results. I hadn't considered what I'd do if you tried to duplicate a lens that didn't exist in the game. The delay alone, though, probably made it obvious they didn't exist. @Kynedath, RNG hated you. Between the lack of actions and a lot of the game being in PMs, it was not an easy game for you. @DeTess, you were another one RNG did not really like. Sorry to both of you! But RNG loved @Rathmaskal. So many lenses to one person. Along with Striker, your use of the Tracker's Lens was essential to the village win. I was surprised at how many people relied on PMs this game. I'd constantly wake up to dozens of new messages. It was mostly surprising because of the Translator's Lenses. Y'all were surprisingly open considering there was PM spying. Had RNG given the Translator's Lenses to the elims rather than Alcatraz, they'd have easily been able to figure out most of your roles within the first two cycles. TGK, FeruSky, and Zillah: You three did amazing for your first game. I hope my broken game doesn't deter you from joining us again in the future! Knowing there were three new players led me to take some special steps with the role/lens distribution. I think it was the most brand new players in one game we've had in a long while. I knew I wanted one new player on the elim team. In a game of 12 players, I didn't want a full third of the village to be new players facing down a team of veterans. I also wanted to make sure one of you got into a courier's lens PM with an older (village) player, hopefully providing a way to get some help along the way. I may have been messing with things a bit much, but I didn't feel right putting them with an elim right away. If they found their own PMs that way, cool, but I didn't want to start that. I'm also glad the third new player got the Translator's Lenses, so they could see more of the behind-the-scenes interactions common in SE. It was a lot, but it worked out, I think. @Elkanah, reading all of your white text was so much fun. I encourage anyone to go back and find all the hidden gems in his posts. Another mechanic I would have changed a lot was @Butt Ad Venture's role as Bastille. The auto-protect, though nice for village, created a huge problem for the elims. It blocked two of their kills and gave the village a pretty much confirmed villager right away. That's never good. Venture, though, did well with the role while he was still alive. Then you all had to go lynching Bastille... Also, to everyone, thank you so much for playing and being active! We had 100% activity through the entire game! Every living player made at least one post every cycle. I'm so proud of you guys. In the end, I'd make some major changes to the distribution. When I built the game, SE was usually getting 15-20 players per game. My original balance was for around 18-ish. Cutting that down to 12, which meant cutting down the elim team, was a bit more unbalanced than I expected. Having one elim die C1 didn't help, but it left the elims in a very bad position. I should have eliminated most of the roles, going to basically just lenses. Aydee shouldn't have been in the game, Alcatraz should have been change drastically, and the scanning lenses needed to be nerfed. Despite the problems, I hope you all had fun! I enjoyed the troll-ish write-ups. They were all based on the writing style of the books, most of them using a quote and adjusting it somehow to fit the game. If you haven't read the series, I highly recommend it. You don't have to be the YA age to still laugh a lot at the book.
  16. I'm so dumb. I just now realized that action to break the lens should have been blocked.... Yay for me breaking my own game! I am somewhat glad, though, as I think that lens would have actually caused way more balance issues in the end.
  17. QF42 Aftermath: I like French Fries Players, welcome to the wonderful world of talking to each other about the end of the game. As a handy primer, here are a few things you should know: GMs have feelings. You will spend the next few days or so trying to guess what everyone was really thinking and why. Just like you've done for the past five days. You will be wrong most of the time. I like French Fries. Congratulations to the Free Kingdomers! You've rooted out all of the Liebrarians who threatened to infiltrate your ranks and take over Watakotse! Another land saved from the rule of people crazy about rules! You know, I've never understood one thing: Why do all these megalomaniac dictators, secret societies, mad scientists, and totalitarian aliens want to rule the world? I mean really? Don't they know what a pain in the neck it is to be in charge? I've been running this game for five days and it's been crazy! Last minute actions, a gajillion PMs to read and then distribute every cycle. People are always making unreasonable demands of GMs. I think the Free Kingdomers are just saving the Evil Librarians from a ton of work. The_God_King has been lynched! They were a member of the Order of the Shattered Lens. The Free Kingdomers have won this round! Vote Count The God King (3) - Kynedath, Striker, Rathmaskal Striker (1) - The God King Player List Document of the Evil Librarians The Dead Doc GM Spreadsheet
  18. This cycle is over! The next one will be posted shortly for another round of destruction! EDIT: Oh, look at that. 1,200th post!
  19. Two and a half hours! Don't forget your actions and votes!
  20. A clever person can make anything turn to his advantage, no matter how much a disadvantage it may seem at first. Wise words from Grandpa Smedry. Unfortunately, they didn't help him much. Neither did his talent. He got killed dead enough that he could only arrive late to it, rather than avoid it. Impossible things are really rough to do, you know. Death also caught up to someone else. Aydee. She avoided death. Twice! But it would not last. She died too. Those librarians really seemed to be making up for lost time, huh? Good thing, too, since they also lost someone. Someone important. Good riddance, at least in the eyes of the Free Kingdomers. You know what Dark Oculators do? Give up their humanity for their work! Crazy. Just like wanting to rule the world. But I'll get to that later. Sorry about the delay. No, actually I'm not. Why else would I choose to go on an "errand" at 11 o'clock at night. The next turn ends on February 1 at 11 p.m. PST. Devotary of Spontaneity was lynched! They were a Dark Oculator! Elkanah has died! They were Grandpa Smedry! CadCom has died! They were Aydee! Vote Count: Devotary (4) - Elkanah, The God King, CadCom, Rathmaskal Striker (1) - Kynedath Rathmaskal (2) - Zillah, Devotary Player List
  21. The cycle is closed. Rollover is extended. I'm having to run a quick errand.
  22. Three hours left! Don't forget to vote and submit your actions!
  23. Cycle Four: Rumbling Rawns! I'd like to take a moment to consider the Evil Librarians. They really are having terrible luck. I mean, I might feel bad for them. If they weren't an evil cult set on sacrificing people to the dark powers on an altar made from outdated encyclopedias, of course. You Free Kingdomers, though. Not much better on the luck front. I don't really feel bad for you either. Not because of any evil dealings you may or may not have. I just don't feel bad for anyone. You brought this on yourself. I have advice for all of you, that you all really should have followed before this game began. Don't play. Really. Just don't sign up. It may look fun. Let me tell you why. They are presented attractively for the same reason that kittens are cute - so that they can draw you in, then pounce on you for the kill. Seriously. Stay away from kittens. DeTess has been lynched! They were a Free Kingdomer. Elkanah was attacked, but survived! Vote Count Striker (2) - Elkanah, Rathmaskal DeTess (2) - Striker, CadCom Elkanah (1) - FeruSky Kynedath (1) - DeTess This turn will end at 11 p.m. PST on January 31. Player List
