But Shardplate does kind of bond to it's user. Not in the same way as a Blade, but if two people try to regrow a plate from different broken pieces, I think it will regrow for the person who is more bonded to it. We also have WoB that there is a lesser bond between the wearer and Plate. Also, someone asked Brandon if the windspren swirling around Kaladin was the precursor to Plate and he said "I think you are a very smart man and are asking wise questions."

Dalinar's Flashback Chapter from Oathbringer
Shardbearer replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, it wasn't really a salute. Dalinar was swinging his sword around like he wanted a fight, and the guy raised his sword to his helm in a sign of challenge accepted. Then Dalinar used hand signals to have an archer shoot his horse. -
They are The Lord Ruler's metalminds.

This is similar to my own thoughts. I figured that the first step to reviving a Blade would be bonding with it using a gemstone, as modern shardbearers do. After that, saying the Oath's (and really believing them) would be another step in the process. And some other stuff that we don't know about yet. Maybe it's as simple as having the intent to wake up the spren while saying the Oaths.

Dalinar's Flashback Chapter from Oathbringer
Shardbearer replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
No, it was an enemy "saluting" him in respect and as a sign of "challenge accepted", not a subordinate or ally saluting an officer. Dalinar had one of his archers shoot the guy's horse while he was still "saluting". -
Help!!! Assassination of Gavilar Coppermind Page

And whatever happened to Liss anyway? I kept expecting her to pop back up in WoR. I guess we'll see her again. -
I have to agree with Yata, it doesn't seem like deathspren are related to Odium or the Unmade.

I took that as her instinct.

another thread about black investiture

Or if there are 3 "big" spren that Bondsmiths can bond to, then I think Cucicesh is one of those.- 17 replies

I can't recall the scene in detail, but she may be referring to a communication received before boarding the ship. Or as Cemci said, while they were sheltering from the storm. I seem to recall them saying the crew stayed on the boat, but Jasnah and Shallan took shelter on the shore somewhere? And later I think Navani talks about how she should have received a spanareed communication when they stopped at a port somewhere.

Reckoners or any other book or series that mentions any version of Earth is not in any way connected to the Cosmere, even through dimensional rifts or anything like that.

Trell and FTL travel [Shadows of Self Spoilers]
Shardbearer replied to stonetwotwo's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok, so how would a Shard get new metal on Scadrial without migrating to the planet, or at least putting a decent amount of investiture into it? After all, it's Scadrial's SDNA that makes metal such a big deal there. I don't suppose it's possible for a Shard to create a god metal away from Scadrial. -
I currently believe that the "force" that opposed and shattered Adonalsium is actually the 16 original Shard holders.

I didn't realize Rithmatist 3 was confirmed. Last I heard he still wasn't sure if it would take 2 or 3 books to complete.

Why Joel didn't become a Rithmatist (spoilers)
Shardbearer replied to blackmagic3's topic in The Rithmatist
I don't think the Church would be able to notice a change in the rate of Rithmatists being incepted. This is a number that would have to vary by a reasonable margin, based on how many Rithmatists die during a year. Also, there isn't one central location everyone goes to in order to be Incepted. I'm not sure, but wouldn't you just go to your local Church? Or are there larger temples or something that you might have to travel to? Either way, there are multiple locations where Inception takes place. The only way to notice a trend is to collect records from all the Inception Chambers and compile the data together. Even still, Scribbler's actions were probably not enough to move that number too far outside the normal range. -
I think that Shardplate and Shardblades have enough Investiture to interfere with Atium. If that's true, the Mistborn would lose their biggest advantage over the Windrunner.

When did Shallan break(WOR spoilers)
Shardbearer replied to KnightGradient's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is something I've been wondering about as well. Her earliest flashback was directly after her mother's death, and Patter was "locked away" into the safe as a result of that incident. It's clear she already had a bond at that time. So what was her brokenness? You could argue that all people have a little bit of brokenness to them, but I'm not sure I buy that. -
WoB says that Szeth can't draw in Stormlight so he better not draw Nightblood yet. So it is not treated like an Honorblade in that respect. And it was just my impression that partially drawing Nightblood would consume investiture, since Vasher is always so careful to keep him fully sheathed. Other than that priest I don't know of any hard evidence for this.
-
I'm pretty sure Nightblood consumes investiture even when he's partially unsheathed. And Szeth can't draw in stormlight right now, so if he takes out Nightblood he'll die.

I doubt that Brandon's editors are privy to his worldbuilding secrets in any way that would allow them to catch something like that. But yeah, I agree that Dysian Aimians being able to rearrange their body parts seems to be the most logical way to interpret that quote.

Being a surgebinder isn't a crime, nor is it morally wrong. Hunting surgebinders is not just. You might have an argument for it being morally right to hunt them, if it will prevent a desolation. But not just.

Nalan doesn't serve justice in his current state. He holds himself to the law, but that isn't always the same as true justice. He'll ignore people who've committed major crimes while he'll do extensive research on his targets in hopes that he can uncover some minor crime that he can use against them.

There could be a trick getting through the different Expanses that lead to other worlds. If there isn't a trick, she probably could worldhop pretty easily.

You can give away only some of your Breaths. It's hard to do, but it is possible. Denth told Vivenna it wasn't possible, but we know how trustworthy he is. So now I'm imagining a nefarious Breath Production Plant, where there is a breeding program designed to produce babies who are encouraged to give their Breaths away when they get old enough.
