I believe Stormlight and Wax/Wayne take place at roughly the same time, so for him to end up on Roshar would be a bit convoluted.

I don't know if you can accurately say that the number of magic systems is dependent on the number of Shards invested in a planet. My assumption has long been that the nature of magic depends largely on the local SDNA of the world and it's inhabitants. So, it's how the SDNA interacts with the investiture offered by a Shard that determines what magic systems look like. So, my theory is that Roshar already had spren and surges before the arrival of the 3 shards, but that these came directly from Adonalsium's investiture. After the shattering, there may or may not have been residual investiture left, so the magic maybe became dormant or diminished until the arrival of new shards, which became the new power sources for surges, fabrials, etc. On the other hand, these existing magics may have had to split into different branches, different systems, to work with these new sources of investiture. Scadrial is an interesting case, because it was created directly by Ruin and Preservation, and probably has SDNA that is tied more closely to these shards than the other shardworlds.

Well, if you think about it there would definitely need to be more than 8X compression possible. Wax and Wayne have a whole conversation inside a bubble, where the people outside barely seem to be moving, and they cover up the conversation with a cough. If you have ever sped up a DVD to 8X speed, that doesn't seem nearly sufficient to cover conversations like that.

Yep, but I'm still going to tenaciously cling to my theory that it depicts an Elantrian falling towards a planet despite the fact that Shadesmar obviously fits better with this description.
-
I know he isn't falling toward the white sphere. In my mind, I see him falling towards a blue planet, the black walls representing outer space. They just assume it's a lake as a gateway because they don't have the concepts for planets and space.
-
Definitely could be Shadesmar, but read another way it could be an Elantrian falling towards a planet.
-
Lately I've been thinking that the lake, pictured as a disk, isn't really a lake at all, but a planet.

I can't rembember where, maybe the AMA thread, but I'm relatively certain I saw a WoB that time travel backwards is impossible in the Cosmere. A different WoB than the one above referencing Hoid.
-
I didn't really gather that second bit. It's just a hunch that Dalinar wouldn't have won a Blade so appropriately named.
-
Another observation: Wit/Hoid says Amaram is even worse than Sadeas.
-
I take this WOB to mean something else from either of you, though similar to maxil's thoughts. First, let me say I doubt anyone, or hardly anyone, has a Blade named after it's spren. After all, the KR that we saw in the vision abandoned their Blades, the soldiers who took them wouldn't know their names, most likely. What I think Brandon was saying is that at some point in the past, a previous shardbearer would have named his Blade, and that name would have passed on to the new owner in many cases. Though in other cases, the new owner may have changed the name, or not known what the Blade was called before. Personally, I believe that Dalinar did give his Blade it's name to reflect the role it served in the unification of Alethekar's princedoms.

I posted too soon. Apparently Wyndle answered that question in the same paragraph.

I don't think Ishar would need to be a people person. The way I interpret that epigraph is he caused them to require the Oaths, resulting in a more organization among the surgebinders.
-
I just noticed something that I don't think I picked up on before. Wyndle tells Lift that people can't see her because he exists mostly in the CR, even though he's moved his consciousness into the PR. No surprises there, but as I thought about it I realized that Pattern is always visible, although he can blend into various surfaces fairly well. Does this mean Pattern is mostly in the PR? Will Syl lose the ability to become invisible now that her PR presence is strong enough to become a Shardblade?
-
Well, I'm guessing that in order for Sazed to keep the two Shards "in harmony" he has to keep the powers balanced. If so, he would definitely need to do something with that extra Ruin power. Why not the Pits?

The link is in Weiry's post above. What I'm asking is since it's confirmed that Reya is not Cultivation, who else could she be?
-
So who was Reya, then? Any theories? Zahel had some of the bridge 4 officers train with a Shardblade, but Kaladin said he wouldn't touch it unless Zahel ordered him to, which he didn't. I wonder if Zahel was testing Kaladin in some way, if he knew that Shardblades were dead spren. He did know that Kaladin had a spren. I wonder if he knew that meant Kaladin could surgebind. Syl told Kaladin that the winds were helping him, even the first time he picked up a weapon as a boy, and that the winds led her to him. How did the winds know, even then, what Kaladin would become? Was he acting honorable/protective even then? Was it Cultivation using her precognition? When Kaladin meets Hoid again, Hoid says that all he wants from Kaladin is a good story. And Hoid seems to have a habit of starting organizations that exist to collect and spread stories.... I wonder if there's something important about that.

Actually, now that I'm looking at the convention's site, I'm confused about the pricing. Looks like the price that I can't afford is for membership, which seems to include all days of the event as well as voting rights. Maybe. It's kinda confusing. But then there's day rates that don't include voting and are much more affordable. So maybe I'll be going after all.

For some reason he absently rubbed at his chest.

This is just days after WoK. Elhokar was probably still sore from when Dalinar was smacking him around. -
Brandon Sanderson is coming to my area for the Sasquan Worldcon in Spokane in September. Unfortunately, I can't afford to attend. Is there any chance he will hold a signing in the area outside the event?

Maxal, no one is arguing that Adolin is one of the 10 flashback characters. What Arook is saying is that Adolin could definitely be considered "a major character". That's not the same as saying he's one of the 10 focus characters.

I believe that in the past, Ruin's surplus power was redirected to the Pits of Hathsin. That's why there was so much more atium then lerasium. Also, the atium geodes took about 300 years to regrow. AoL is set about 300 years after the era 1 trilogy... I believe the prevailing theory is that Harmony is still redirecting Ruin's extra power into atium, which means that a new source of atium should just now be reforming... And of course, it is said that the Pits of Eltania contain an unknown metal...

I'm fond of the theory that says shardplate is formed by lots of spren that are "cousins" to the Nahel spren forming around the surgebinder. Like how Kaladin had a lot of windspren around him, or Shallan has a tendency to attract creationspren.
