I don't think the Masked Ones are a good comparison to Kandra when it comes to if Lightweavers, Elsecallers, or Willshapers can see through their disguise. First off are Fused are more more like spren than living souls and we haven't seen any real indication that they can differentiate the types of living souls from each other. Also Masked Ones use illusion vs the actual physical change Kandra go through

Have we seen Hemalurgy on other Shardworlds?
StanLemon replied to The Isochronism's topic in Mistborn
It's possible. It's definitely out of the box thinking. Personally I don't think that it's the case as Patji is an Avatar of Autonomy. We see what seems to be Kandra Blessings on Roshar, but I can't remember if that scene was written before that WoB or not -
The biggest problem these debates have is they assume both sides know how each other's powers work. I'd agree that an Elsecaller could theoretically beat a Fullborn if they were able to get the jump on them and knew enough about how the Metallic Arts worked. Both sides going in blind though? As long as the Fullborn isn't arrogant like TLR, the Fullborn would win

Not counting any of the Shards, Hoid, or Frost. Which character in the Cosmere do you think has the biggest impact on the Cosmere as a whole. My personal pick would be Vasher. While technically his wife was the one who created Nightblood, she's a posthumous character and Vasher was still involved. Additionally he was an important influence on Kaladin and Adolin.

One thing to keep in mind, Brandon says lots of things are technically possible but that doesn't mean they are practical or feasible.

It might not be that it makes you sick, but robs your body of the ability to handle the myriad of every day pathogens ever present in the world. Basically things that would tax your body now putting a larger strain on you than they normally would. Alternatively, maybe it's an odd form of auto immune effects and storing causes your body to try and overcompensate for its weakened ability to heal itself

I'm trying to think of Roshar's potential interstellar abilities. Even Oathgates which are the most powerful transportation abilities known so far requires specific platforms. If they're limited to a single planet or anywhere an Oathgate is is yet to be seen, though I think the latter is more likely. I doubt they'll have Battlestar Galactica level jump drives. I think they'll be more focused on controlling movement through the CR and possibly building Oathgates for fast travel between worlds and have space ships that use sublight speeds for inner solar system movement
-
Oathgates are weird. Odium thought it necessary to recover the crystal core in order to rebuild an Oathgate so it's likely quite an undertaking to build one from scratch. Also the spren used for them are unlike any other spren known. They seem to have some relation with Lightspren and Inkspren but they are also distinctly different. It may even be that in order to make them a Dawnshard or Shard is necessary

BoM proved that objects can be affected by Feruchemy. It should be possible to use Tinminds then to enhance the optics of telescopes and microscopes
-
Interesting perspective on microscopes. We know for sure Tinminds give a telescoping effect from Sazed's pov and the more of the trait he tapped the further he could see

Do we have any information about footwear in the Cosmere other than Ym?
StanLemon replied to Oltux72's question in Cosmere Q&A
Alethi soldiers wear boots for sure, but considering leather is not exactly common on Roshar, they're probably made using soft tissue from chulls or a plant based substance -
The reason is conflict is expected because literature tropes, but the in book reasons have to do with what little we know of Odium's goals and the Sixth of the Dusk sequel chapter Brandon released implies imperial expansion by both Scadrial and Roshar. Particularly in the way of controlling unique and useful expressions of Investiture. That historically leads to skirmishes at least if not full on war
-
And/or resource monopoly driven
-
Hey all, what kind of tech do you imagine Era 4 will have besides the FTL? Let's bounce some ideas Technology I expect Era 4 Scadrial technology to have at least. Most of these are thought of with a military weapon bent, but I'd love ideas for mundane uses too Railguns that have weight changing ammunition to act as powerful kinetic energy weapons Bombs that drain Investiture Super soldiers Advanced scanning tech Some kind of deflection technology Fast and comprehensive information transferring via F-Copper tech Time dilated R&D factories Power Armor Advanced physical & mental health systems Ultra high speed computers? Depends on if F-Zinc can speed computer processing Ultra high speed light weight air vehicles

Pewter, it's not as flashy or interesting as many of the others but the physical benefits are just too good to pass up

I like to think A-Gold has parallels with Soulforging

While true, we don't actually know how bad those diminishing returns actually are. Brandon has said that both that a single bead of Atium is very efficient, and he was able to store enough youth in his armbands, which Vin described as not having much Atium in them, to remain young and offset a millennium of age for several days at least. Between the Trust and what the Steel Inquisitors had on hand he probably had much more than enough to wait out the Pits reforming. But, as stated earlier in this thread, the Well was almost refilled and he almost certainly expected to simply make himself truly young again with its power.

Part of it was the pure arrogance he developed from not having any real threats (besides Ruin) for so long. But I think from his perspective it wasn't anything worse than he's dealt with before. Sure it might be something more than any rebellion the skaa could every remember but it was still a far cry from the actual militaries he has crushed in the past. Even if he had known about what happened at the Pits, the more logical conclusion would be that they were trying to wreck his Atium economy than anything else. Plus, it doesn't take much Atium to live centuries, a single bag has lasted Marsh three hundred years after all.

Why does everyone hate Oathbringer?
StanLemon replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oathbringer is my personal favorite of the books so far, heck it is what turned Dalinar from a character I liked to being my favorite Brandon Sanderson character. Honestly Rhythm of War is the one I consider having the lowest quality overall even if it had some amazing aspects to it -
This is something that has bugged me in the past too. I think I personally settled on a mix of bias towards seeing other people and object's futures as being more useful combatively by Vin and Elend and that Electrum would probably take more practice to use effectively combatively compared to atium. For example, seeing a vision of yourself with a slashed through doesn't necessarily help determine how it got slashed. Sure you could make estimated guesses, but it's different than seeing a future shadow of your enemy trying to slash your throat and responding accordingly. Another possibility I've considered and more recently come to think might be more accurate, Electrum could always show multiple shadows of a user's future of multiple possible decisions they could make by default. Unless you commit to an action, your possible actions are in flux. Let's say you burn Electrum and see yourself fall to the ground, because you've seen the future, you are free to continue that path or go onto another path and then a shadow of that other path shows you get hit by and arrow. Now that first path looks more appealing, but the possibility of a third action could still be made thus making yet another shadow and so on and so forth.

Greater Awakening and Manipulating the Cognitive Aspect
StanLemon replied to Trusk'our's question in Cosmere Q&A
I think that would be reasonable to assume. My personal guess is that the Command would take precedence but holes would be filled out with the objects previous Cognitive aspect.- 2 replies

While it's true that Life Sense can detect non-active Investiture it seems to be limited. It's been a little while since I read Warbreaker, so I might be remembering this wrong, but I recall that it was considered safe to hide Breaths in objects without actually Awakening them. I don't think this would work if Life Sense and Aura Perception weren't limited to only detecting Investiture in living things. Albeit, admittedly I recall that information being provided by Denth so it probably needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Also, considering how much we don't know about Awakening and Breaths, there could be a tweak to detect more than living beings like how Bronze can be tweaked to detect more than Allomancy.
-
I'd say Bronze. Life sense as far as we've seen at least only gives someone a generic sense of Investiture which is focusing on detecting living beings. A-Bronze on the other hand can theoretically detect any kinetic Investiture and with training can be interpreted enough to have an understanding of what that Investiture is doing.

Rythm of War makes it clear Surgebinding on Roshar existed before humanity showed up. At minimum Singers were using Cohesion since ancient times for tool making. Also several aspects of the books heavily imply Singers were Bonding with sapient Spren in those ancient times as well. They probably were using Surgebinding as it originally developed on Roshar. The modern forms of Surgebinding (Fused and Knights Radiant) both have implications that they are artificial to some extent.

This is also supported by two aspects in the books. In Well of Ascension it is directly stated that his bracers actually held very little Atium for starters. The other aspect was that Coinshots, Lurchers, and Mistborn could Push and Pull on his other jewelry which while the real world reason for this was Brandon hadn't thought up that Metalminds resist Pushes and Pulls, the only logical reason in universe would be that he isn't storing his massive amount of Compounded traits in them.
