Mistborn V.S. 3rd ideal Windrunner
StanLemon replied to Wits instant noodles's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Bubbles can be made smaller Two things, Stormlight doesn't have a Pewter like affect. Kaladin explicitly says that it doesn't give strength and there is never narration except once by Teft in reference to Kaladin's skill with a spear, and there are multiple reasons to take that with a grain of salt What @Primeval Ookla said -

Mistborn have superhuman agility and dexterity, Kaladin already proved a Radiant can get grappled. Electrum sees your own future, so you can see if you would get struck by a Shardblade and correct your action -

Actually I forgot. Which is a battlefield clearly skewed in favor of a Radiant. Thing is, there is no such thing as a neutral battlefield. But it doesn't matter anyway, the quote you referenced of mine was a Mistborn against a 4th Ideal Radiant, which was already outside the scope of the predicted battle. A Mistborn wouldn't need to run away against a 3rd Ideal Radiant like that -

Windrunners are only faster if they stack several Lashings, which burn through their Stormlight quickly. Electrum for defense, Bendalloy speed bubbles to dodge quickly if the Windrunner does close in, etc. But this is getting off topic. Yes 4th Ideal Radiants have the advantage, I just heavily disagree that it is as insurmountable as so many of you believe. Without Plate though, as a 3rd Ideal Radiant is, the Radiant lacks their biggest advantage against a Mistborn. Chromium is decidedly problematic for a Radiant. -

This assumes that a Mistborn can't find any other metal. They only get sent flying if they are dumb enough to keep Pushing after striking the Plate. Your right it doesn't need Stormlight to keep functioning, but they are still going to keep losing Stormlight. Stormlight is lost just by them holding it. -
A short argument as to why Leachers should be able to use their power at range. We know that for a lot of metals, one of the biggest limiting factors is the perception of what can be done and the practice and intention to use it in another way. For example, Iron and Steel generally have single lines that point to the center of mass. But from Wax and Kelsier we know that that is far from the limit. Now the reason I make this argument. Primer Cubes. We see the Primer Cube used in conjunction with 3 metals, Steel Cadmium and Chromium. In the case of Steel and Cadmium, the cube acts exactly like the metal usually does, Steelpushes from the cube and time bubbles with the cube at the center. Leaching on the otherhand is different. It doesn't require the cube to touch someone but simply sucks out the Investiture of someone near it. This indicates that ranged Leaching is a reasonable assumption.

A Mistborn with Chromium destroys 1st and 2nd Oath Radiants. One touch is all it takes Plate can be cracked with stone and a sling. It's by no means insurmountable. Szeth's scene in WoK shows it is possible for an Invested person without Plate to fight someone in Plate. Sure it would be a good deal harder fighting a Radiant in living Plate vs a skilled fighter in dead Plate but it does use Stormlight to repair every crack that forms in Plate. Sooner or later the Radiant will run out. Per above, it's a cat and mouse game. Slam the Plate with Steelpushes until the Radiant has ran out of Stormlight. Unlike a Mistborn, Radiants lose their Stormlight even if doing nothing Odium doesn't directly supply Light, the Fuzed still need to either carry it in Spheres or spend the time necessary to do the chant that summons it -

All cases of Leaching we have seen have been near instantaneous and comparable examples with the Larkin in Lift's pov have also been almost instantaneous -

Leaching prevents the summoning of a Shardblade, it would presumably prevent the shape changing of a Shardblade too. If a Mistborn gets a Pewter enhanced grip around the Radiant's sword arm. Close combat no longer becomes an issue -

That's near impossible to determine. It seems to be at least partially determined by how much the Allomancer wants to carry. Kelsier, for some reason, only kept small amounts in a vial. Most likely to try and avoid other Allomancers from Pushing them. Vin on the other hand, had enough in one vial to last her quite a while. It would just be easiest to assume that all of a Mistborn's storage across all vials is several hours worth of metal. -

A single Mistborn vial was enough to have Vin's Pewter last long enough for her to kill hundreds of Koloss while periodically flaring it and long enough for Sazed and a number of soldiers to make it from the Steel Gate to Keep Hasting which is half way across Luthadel -

Regardless if she resupplies or not, there are scenes of her burning Pewter without needing to drink another vial for what is clearly longer than 10 minutes. Like I said, Kelsier's scene is an outlier. -

No but considering how long 5 beads can last, and by WoA she is considered to be burning Pewter all the time. She is either carrying a decent amount on her person at all times, unlikely as she usually only has a couple vials at any given time, or that she doesn't skimp on Pewter like Kelsier seems to -
Which would you rather be? A Fullborn with a comprehensive understanding of Hemalurgy (despite the fact we still know so little about Hemalurgy) or a Radiant with access to all 10 Surges. Personally I think I'd want to be a Fullborn despite the PHENOMINAL COSMIC POWER of all 10 Surges. This is mostly because I think I would very much like the quality of life advantages of Feruchemy and Mistborn abilities would be fun.

This is an outlier compared to what is seen in the rest of the trilogy. He likely used little metal in his vials to try and avoid the Pushes and Pulls of other Allomancers. It's probably a habit of his considering he only measured 10 minutes worth of Pewter the first time he trained Vin. Vin however in the other two books is shown have hours worth of Pewter most of the time. Additionally, in TFE 5 small beads of Pewter were enough to last Vin an hour despite the fact she wasn't just burning them but was flairing them which vastly increases the speed the metals burn. -
One thing, Harmonium acts like alkaline metals but its reaction is many many times more potent. All evidence in the book shows that Harmonium explosions are massive in their own right even before you get to matter/energy conversion levels
-
Oh after this last book I fully expect Era 3 to be a full on Cold War environment for sure
-
The most likely powers involved for FTL are A-Bendalloy, A-Cadmium, F-Steel, and A-Duralumin. FTL would certainly look like teleportation to anyone who didn't understand the speeds involved.

Conventional military power: Scadrial has the advantage in every category except manpower and supplies logistics. And by manpower, I'm not talking about number of men on a battlefield. Scadrial weapons make that almost meaningless. Despite their current Fabrials and Radiants, it's still effectively an industrial society against a renaissance society and there are plenty of historical examples of just how utterly one sided those are. WMDs: I still have to give Scadrial the advantage on this. Even with limited Bavadinium, they still can create full on nukes, and even without that, Harmonium explosions can be devastatingly powerful. Sure Roshar has Anti-Investiture but the explosion in Navani's lab was clearly nowhere near as powerful as the one in Wax's. Additionally the explosive nature of Anti-Investiture reactions is dependent on the pressure of its storage space so it is capped by the gem they put it in. Maybe they can make nuke sized explosion potential with the largest possible gem hearts, but those are kind of very rare and they would need to use up two of them every time they wanted a nuke level explosion. Air superiority: mixed bag. Scadrial, particularly the south, has airship technology advanced enough to have dedicated warships whereas Roshar is in the very infancy of their airship technology. However, Roshar has Windrunners and Skybreakers giving them a manuverability advantage. Invested: Roshar has the advantage for sure. There are the advantages of just being a Radiant then there are the individuals Surges that each have a decent power of. However, a few caveats. Scadrial has far and away more Invested individuals, additionally some of Scadrial's Invested abilities are straight up anathema to Roshar. Leacher grenades in particular would be problematic for Radiants. Resources: I'm giving this to Scadrial. Sure Roshar has Soulcasting which simplifies their logistics a lot, but they still need people to hand make things. Blacksmiths to forge weapons and armor for example. Scadrial on the other hand is a fully industrial world. They could make a dozen guns in the time it takes a blacksmith to forge a single sword.

There probably is no downside or at least a very mild side effect. Brandon conceded that not all metals have a downside to Savantism

All we know so far about living Shardplate is that it is summonable, can repair cracks immediately if fed Stormlight, has at least some ability to change its shape, and in the case of Windrunners can be moved to be placed around other people. -
I don't think this is a reasonable assumption as SL 5 is still unknown and for all we know it could lead to Radiant stagnation for 10 years or any number of things. We need to base it on what's known about Roshar currently
-
True, but RoW did explicitly state the problem with that. You still need to dedicate the time to train the new Radiant. Not as big of an issue with Windrunners because of their large number of squires who can immediately access the Order's Surges, but other Orders don't have it so easy

As someone who read Final Empire again very recently. TLR had his muscles did indeed grow when tapping strength. Specific, after Vin ripped his metalminds away, the narration explicitly described his muscles deflating like Sazed's muscles did. The real question then is, how much of his phenomenal strength that let him elbow Marsh so hard he flew across a room and still hit the wall hard enough to daze Marsh who was presumably was burning Pewter himself came from his powerful Allomancy and how much came from tapping strength? The narration made just described TLR as impressively muscular instead of hulking. If F-Pewter can truly store A-Pewter strength, it seems likely that it still stores your muscle mass but because your muscles are stronger from the A-Pewter that it needs to store less muscle per unit of strength
