  1. These are good. However, book 2 will give us many other things, foremost of these being information. It's going to be a Shallan book, so we'll get so much more background on Roshar. I'm really excited. Although, I am very excited for 1&4. Also, welcome to the 17th shard! I hope your stay here is enjoyable .
  2. Yes. Szeth book=unmeasureable win. Szeth is an AMAZING character, or well, interesting, at least. I'm not quite sure how I feel about a Navani one, though...Maybe she knows what the glowy back sphere is?
  3. That makes a lot of sense. However, I don't think this gap is normal; Honor mentions that Odium is letting humanity fight itself, it would probably happen in a lot longer time period than the normal desolation. They probably would also have been at the current level of tech if they had this amount of space between. ...We need stormlight 2. One. Year. >_>
  4. WoK - I don't really have a favorite here. If I had to, Kaladin, but it's more the particular scenes I prefer. Mistborn - Vin. Elantris - Currently re-listening to this, no comment until I re-finish it Warbreaker - Lightsong. He's just too awesome . And, Alcatraz is amazing. Fish just don't count as viewpoint characters, though ):.
  5. I feel the need to correct you somewhat; names had meaning well after 6000 years ago; you only have to look at a last name like Baker to see it; I'm guessing that 500-1000 years ago is when names started becoming less meaningful, or at least, last names did. First names probably stopped 2000-3000+ years ago, if you ask me.
  6. Speaking of the heralds, in one of Dalinar's visions (the Nohadon one, I think), it is mentioned that people forgot the Heralds between desolations; if this is true, then that might be evidence for the parshmen are voidbringers theory; if they could forget the heralds, they could forget the cause of the desolations, right? Anyway, I still don't want to believe that parshmen are the voidbringers. I personally prefer the other theory, but this is more evidence towards that one.
  7. While Brandon RAFO'd the Szeth & the Oathstone question, I think it's just honor. For one thing, he thinks about disobeying the oathstone towards the end of the book. In one of his interludes, however, he mentions that if he disobeys the holder of his oathstone, then his soul will vanish, instead of being condemned to eternal torture. Brandon has pretty much said yes that Szeth's surgebinding doesn't require a spren. I think he gave the asker of the question a gold star...Right?
  8. I can respect that. Either way, as next book is a Shallan book, we might very well get the answer to this question.
  9. A valid point, but the fact that they have been used (and not gotten rid of) by a kandra may change things. We don't know enough :/ Either way though, Brandon also mentioned that a person with a strong spirit could interfere with surgebinding on them (much as shardplate could, but likely on a smaller level), is it possible that Kelsier is staying on because he's a sliver (correct? I'm not good with Mistborn stuff.), and is just hanging around through pure force of will.
  10. Doesn't Tensoon or whomever had it last still have his bones?
  11. My issue with this is that the truthspren say that is was a "powerful truth". She tries saying that Jasnah can soulcast without the soulcaster, but they say that isn't enough; it seems that they only accept things that she knows to be true, not that she guess, or (probably), that she feels. Besides, She calls it the sin of her most horrific act; that makes it seem more directly that she killed him.
  12. I like this; I've decided that highstorms aren't of Honor, mainly because one of the chapter start-things says that the city (Urithu?) was built in the west, closer to Honor, capitol H. Why would Honor's power be in the west, and he would send highstorms from the east? I think highstorms might also be Odium looking for Honor's power, but that's just me. This theory is well-written. +1.
  13. Another interesting thing: I believe it was the chapter 35 heading, talking about (Uritihu, right?) being built in the west, close to Honor. Capitol H. So, would that mean that Rosharians are aware of Honor somehow? Did the old people know of the shards? If you ask me, it also means that highstorms aren't of Honor; why would Honor's center of power be in the west, but highstorms come from the East? Could it be possible that they are somehow Odium looking to find Honor's power? Is it possible that Honor's center of power is Shinovar, where highstorms can't reach? ...Only on Brandon Sanderson's fansite do you make theories from the capitalization of one word.
  14. The top style is my favorite, but I always imagine mistcloaks to look more fabric-y, kinda like the black you get on Halloween costumes.
  15. Name I use in RP's. On most other sites, I use my account name (You know, the one you log in with, for those that are like me and keep 'remember me' on), but this might very well become my primary one.
  16. Is it possible that the existing shards aren't even the same ones that the radiants used? Either way, welcome to 17th shard!
  17. Do you study languages at all? That was awesome .
  18. I recently noticed that an h is treated as one letter with the letter before it on Roshar (Sh, Th, various others); is this for all letters or just some? EDIT: Windrunner answered this: it's only Sh and Th.
  19. I don't, but it seems that in Roshar vocabulary, an h after a letter is considered one letter. Kasbal mentions that Shallan's name is one letter away from being a palindrome, and that all the 10 silver kindgoms were. They are named as follows: Aimia (A palindrome by our standards) Alethela (A palindrome if not for the h) Iri (Again, a palindrome) Natanatan (See above) Makaôakam (Above, again) Rishir (The same case as Alethela-one letter away from palindrome status) Sela Tales (A palindrome with a space) Shin Kak Nish (Note how the sh stays an sh instead of a hs. Still considered a palindrome by Rosharian standards.) Thalath (Again, note how the Th is still a th instead of an ht) Valhav (Like Alethela or Rishir) Anyway, my little thing. Thoughts?
  20. Kaladin plus Dawn/Honor/Shardspear+Plate=Most dangerous warrior on Roshar. Even Szeth, with all his skill, couldn't match Kaladin. Anyway, the other real question is whether or not Kaladin would become a lighteyes. Szeth, for instance, is lighteyed only when wielding the Sword. The herald at the end of the book (Taln? IDK) was Darkeyed even with the blade. If Kaladin DID become permanently lighteyed, I think he would be pretty mad, but that's just me.
