  1. As there is no thread quite yet, let me post one! Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes have been confirmed, as Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire! We've (or I've) all been waiting for it, and here it is...in November! For a starting discussion, let's talk about the music. As someone who is just now realizing the sheer volume of trumpets in the soundtrack, I can safely say that I don't think that's a bad thing. The music is very distinct and reminds me of hiking. What do you guys think?
  2. That's a lot of what I'm thinking as well. The KR disbanded, no one could use the Oathgates, and eventually the knowledge was lost and changed, a d they did some stuff to mess up the gates, perhaps leaving Stormseat open simply because no one wanted to go out there to re-establish the city, and corrupt the Oathgate in the process. Of course, perhaps it wasn't the KR that locked the Oathgates. Perhaps the Sunmaker, in his whole changing of Vorin theology, did something to the Oathgates?
  3. There's another good though. What if Stormseat was the Oathgate for the Bondsmiths, and for some reason that has to do with the Recreance, the Bondsmiths were all dead, and unable to lock their Oathgate? Or, a step further, what if the Recreance was a direct result of the Bondsmiths all being dead? I'm really grasping at straws here, especially because I find it suspiciously likely that Taln's death had something to do with this...
  4. To be fair, the context in which it's used has no real bearing on the meaning. You do bring a good point with the keyhole, and I say I have no real answer to that except that we haven't seen all the honorblades Ooh, that's a good thought. I wonder what it takes to break some of this stuff...I don't think it'd be very easy, or at least much harder than breaking Shardplate.
  5. If I had to pick one combination, I would pick Windrunner + Feruchemist. Windrunner's gravity powers are cool, and Feruchemy's just an insanely helpful secondary magic system. Storing weight would have all sorts of cool applications for Windrunners, and the rest are also helpful. Too slow to mark your opponent and send them flying into the sky? Tap speed. Out of stormlight? Tap investiture. Having problems storing enough? Just use stormlight to accelerate the rate at which you can store things without negative consequences. Plus, flying is cool.
  6. I'm personally of the opinion that each gate takes a certain herald or order to open, but the thing about Vedeledev's keys has me thinking...
  7. So, let's talk about the Oathgates, more specifically, Kholinar's Oathgate (kept out of the title to avoid spoilers). I think we've seen this Oathgate on screen, in Lhan's interlude. On the very first page, they pass through a room called the "Circle of Memories". We also know that the dais upon which Kholinar's palace and royal temple were built was an oathgate So, it's very probably that the "Circle of Memories" is actually an Oathgate, and I'm willing to bet that the keyhole has something to do with unlocking the Oathgate. The eleventh lamp might also mess things up, but we don't know enough about the Oathgates to know how much it would affect one. Thoughts? Additional quotations for/against this theory are welcome. Quick edit: According to the Coppermind, there's a Kharbranthian oath that goes "Vedeldev's golden keys". This may or may not have relation do the Oathgates...
  8. With this quote, let's assume that this big hint is Hoid coming out of the Horneater pools. Assuming those are Shardpools, then it's safe to assume that Shardpools have something to do with worldhopping. I've heard it theorized that people can only come out of Shardpools when worldhopping, which seems reasonable enough. I'm wondering what happens if this is the case, and the pools are gone (Mistborn spoilers) Thoughts?
  9. I'll be up front here, I don't have a terrible amount of solid evidence, many parts of this there are inferences or guesses. If there are any quotes you know of that support/destroy this theory, please post them. Anyway, before starting, let's list what we know about Shadesmar: Shadesmar is the Cognitive Realm. Shadesmar has been glimpsed by Kaladin, albeit briefly, and Shadesmar is mentioned by the ardents in the interlude from WoK (can someone give me the name of it? I don't have my WoK copy easily accessible right now). Shallan and Jasnah are much more helpful in terms of Shadesmar, giving us on-screen looks at it. Every time we've seen it on screen, Shadesmar is made out of little beads, with the exception of Kaladin, who only sees the sun of Shadesmar. These beads can be manipulated in various ways, from Jasnah making a raft, or to whole sections of the palace at Kholinar to stand on. Jasnah can force the beads to move and do other things, but Shallan is less adept at it. Each bead in Shadesmar represents on object, be it Stick or the palace at Kholinar. These beads can be talked to with the aid of spren, and persuaded to change into other objects. Spren look very different in Shadesmar as well. Exhaustionspren are giant vultures, Pattern is the symbols seen in Shallan's drawings in WoK. With that out of the way, let's talk about travel through Shadesmar. Jasnah presumably uses the Transportation surge to get to where she is at the end of WoR. The journey to that place was not instantaneous, and seemed difficult. Jasnah wasn't looking as she was when she was in the ship, and had picked up some packs along the way. This probably means that travel through shadesmar takes some sort of supplies, be it spheres, food, blankets, etc. We also know that Jasnah talked with some spren, and it is mentioned they haven't dealt with someone living in a long time. Then, at the end, we know Jasnah's journey wasn't precise. I think the reason for this is that the Transportation surge physically takes someone into Shadesmar. In Shadesmar, the person has to walk around Shadesmar (I'm guessing time is a little messed up here as well), until they get to the approximate place in shadesmar that corresponds to the approximate place on Roshar. This is why it can get imprecise - Shadesmar and Roshar are very similar, but not exactly the same. If someone has to approximate the location on Roshar that corresponds to the place in Shadesmar, then the travel wouldn't be very precise. Thoughts? Edit: Here are some quotes (Thanks WEZ313) So, we need to look in Elantris, and we have a clue in WoR. I'm guessing Rock's story at the bar has a lot to do with this, and if we assume that the horneater pools are Shardpools, then it's logical to assume that Shardpools are somehow connected with Shadesmar.
  10. This thread is not moving, but I'm giving it the opportunity to Return to its former greatness.
  11. You guys are overthinking things The answer is simple; you have to rig up a highly complicated system, become an Aluminum Gnat, and use the benefits of being an Aluminum Gnat to purge whatever investiture is making the zombies...well, zombies, when they bite you, thus rendering you immune to zombies. Now you just have to farm and whatnot to make food
  12. I would really love Kaladin to learn how to read, just all "I'm going to ignore social conventions because this is convenient for me." Maybe Sigizil will teach him?
  13. Unrelated pun here.... Blushweaver has that divine breath, right? Does that mean she's (pause for dramatic effect) well Endowed?
  14. I didn't really pay attention to this thread so this might have been asked already, but please ask Brandon if (Word of Radiance spoilers)
  15. Going to have to echo GreyPilgrim here, Warbreaker is an excellent place to start from, especially because it's free on Brandon's website. They have nothing to lose from trying it out. Mistborn is a good start too, but please, please don't start with the SA first, those books are too intimidating for most people.
  16. I was going to post on the palindrome post number, but I missed my opportunity. Oh well, I wrote a ketek for you all anyway. Lame puns/make people groan/but are they great/they are/but groaning people make puns lame Here it is with some punctuation, but it removes some of the Ketek palindrome spirit Lame puns make people groan, but are they great? They are...but groaning people make puns lame.
  17. Well, that depends on how many more forum Q&As Brandon decides to do. Last time he got like, 30 upvotes a post, it was crazy .
  18. You're right. Those were holy inappropriate for this thread - the Shin look upon these puns with faces like stone.
  19. I think this is correct. IIRC, Scadrial is the closest to Earth we get in the Cosmere.
  20. Don't forget that so it's very possible that Odium was directly involved with how this Desolation was caused.
  21. I'm an Idrian Monk, and that can only mean one thing; I am no longer allowed to up/downvote, because not only would that draw too much attention to me, those buttons are too brightly colored!
  22. There's an interesting theory... What if Taln didn't go mad? Taln quickly found that this society would not be receptive to a Herald returning, and switched out with someone "mad", who was willing to take his place. He handed the guy a shardblade, and sent him off to the warcamps. Of course, there are a few issues with this, namely that Amaram believes the madman is Taln (although, how would he know for sure), the madman recognizes Shallan as a radiant (IIRC), and that the madman caught a dart that was fired towards him. That shows mind-numbingly good reflexes, maybe even inhumanly good reflexes, and chances are those reflexes came from Stormlight, or Heralds just being crazy awesome.
  23. IIRC Brandon changed book 1 to be the only Kaladin book. We also know, according to Syl, that parshendi can't become surgebinders, so chances are that the books won't each be for a radiant order. Taln is confirmed a book, Renarin confirmed a book, and Lift was very strongly hinted if not confirmed to have a book. IIRC, there were to be 2 herald books (maybe one for Nalan/Jezrien as well?) A flashback book for Rlain or for Eshonai's sister would be great, and a Sadeas. Gavilar, or Amaram book would be amazing as well, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Jasnah had a book...
  24. That would be fantastic. Kaladin demands to know who she is, and she tells him, and he's all "not another one!"
  25. Ah yes, thank you! For whatever reason I had pinned the friend as female....
