A young man with wild hair and tattered shoes burst from the forest grinning. "Mother!" he called. "Answer my question, Gatherer," snapped the Second Elder. "Why have you brought the Nameless here? The harvest is in two weeks! We need every hand we have on the vines." "Relax," replied Gatherer, still grinning. "It's not like I cleared the fields. We just had a few pebblefruit come in early is all, and I figured why not come take a visit?" The Second Elder raised an eyebrow. Gatherer let out a short sound that was probably a chuckle. "You always see right through me, don't you?" His tone grew more serious as he lowered his voice. "To tell the truth... I spotted something. A shipwreck." " I know," interjected the Second Elder, causing Gatherer to raise his eyebrows in surprise. "Survivors arrived here not half an hour ago." She stepped aside, gesturing to the three behind her.

Muffled cries sounded in the distance. At the end of the street came a man booking it in the opposite direction, as if fleeing. @Ookla the Nerdy

"I'm good," mumbled Yerik. In the distance, footsteps approached. A few moments later, a group of people broke though the trees. They walked in sync, carrying baskets filled with some sort of fruit. Stranger than any of that, however, was their eyes; grey and empty, they seemed utterly soulless. The Second Elder's brow creased. "Gatherer!" she called. "What is the meaning of this?" @Ookla the Crow@Ookla the Kobold

The Second Elder led them through the streets, taking them back the way they had come, her expression never changing. At last they reached a house on the outskirts of the village, overgrown with vines. A sapling grew out of the floor. "Here we are," spoke the Second Elder. "I suggest you get comfortable."

The First Elder nodded. "Very well. Second Elder, would you mind helping them get settled in?" The woman sitting next to him- the same one that had yelled at them earlier - stood up and bowed stiffly. "Indeed, First Elder."

The First Elder frowned. "Are you not going to stay?" "But," Anikel gesticulated wildly, "they're just trees!"

The First Elder waved a hand. "You probably saw it on the way in. Nobody's lived there good a long time, so stuff has just... broken down."

The corrupted islands are what gave me the idea in the first place, so that works great! The Aether Crystals are a manifestation of a fracture in reality- when someone activates them, they break magic for that person. There's a natural limit on how much power a single person can draw. In general, the creator only chooses the nature of the magic, not its limitations. (Also the crystal is one use only, I forgot to mention that before.)

"Yeah... I guess." Yerik turned and pushed out the door, eyes still downcast. @Ookla the Kobold "So you're saying," said Anikel slowly, "that the trees themselves are angry at us?" @The Wandering Wizard

I have an idea on how magic systems are created. The genesis is a crystalline object (tentative name: Aether Crystal). Touching the object replaces any magic within the user with a new system of their own creation. Thoughts?

"They're mad about one tree?" asked Anikel incredulously, "Actually," replied Yerik haltingly. "I... have a question." He took a deep breath. "About outsiders. Visitors. Two of them, about thirty." His words sped up, spilling out of him like a flood. "A married couple, looking for their daughter- it would have been about eight years ago- the man, he escaped. Alone. But-" His voice caught. "His wife. She would still be here?" He looked up at the First Elder, eyes pleading. The First Elder pondered the question. "I... yes, I do remember them." Yerik's heart leapt into his throat. "The woman did not survive, unfortunately," the Elder continued. "She perished in the escape attempt." He inclined his head in sympathy. "I am sorry." All the energy went out of Yerik's posture. His eyes fixated on the ground. "It's... fine."

I wanted to put pressure on Wiz. I thought the random vote thing was a little eh and then he did it again later IIRC. Uh... to tie. Now that you mention that, yeah that probably wasn't my smartest play >.<- 1292 replies

More like I wasn't in a position to do anything about it :P. I was running a bit late at EoD, and oh boy were there a lot of posts to catch up on. TBH without me on the chopping block the incentive to post just wasn't there. >.< I swear, basically all of the past few games I've been in I've thought to myself "you should form a last minute train at EoD" and I have yet to do it. Oh well, maybe someday. LG90 Xino-Kas- 1292 replies

"Not nicknames- titles," replied the Elder. "First Elder, Weaver... even Queen. 'Nameless Island' is also a title, which is partially how we know they aren't the same thing."

"That is a common theory, yes. Which is why it is inadvisable to ever speak your name aloud, even if no one is listening." He sighed. "But, as with many things, we do not know for certain. It may be that there is something about Naming that we do not quite grasp. Or potentially she simply tortures the names out of her victims. Few people have ever escaped from her castle, and the reports we received have hardly painted a clear picture."

"I'll hold you to that," Anikel growled. "Make one wrong move..." "Every so often, she sends people down to come and take some of us away. Old, young... there's no pattern to it. Except when she's angry with us." He shuddered. "She always takes children then. We've tried everything to hide our names, but..." He sighed, wrinkles showing around his eyes. "Nothing has worked."
