  1. "Yeah," responded Vicius's partner, a confused expression still in his face. "Vicius, they aren't...?" Vicius shook his head slightly. "Shipwreck survivors. They fought- you know what, I'll let them tell you the story. I'm afraid there are other matters that require my immediate attention." With that, he disappeared back the way he had come. The remaining man appraised the trio. "Fighters, huh? Not many of those left." He extended a hand. "My name's Severance. You can call me Sever."
  2. Vicius led them through a twisting tunnel that led deep into the mountain. It was dark and damp, the only light coming from his lantern. At last they saw a light up ahead. As they grew closer, they saw it was an encampment of sorts. One other person was there, a youngish man with a sword strapped to his hip. He was writing in some sort of notebook, but looked up at the group as they approached. "Hey, Vicius-" he began, then cut off as he noticed the others. "Uh... who're the extras?" Anikel cursed, jumping off his horse and swiveling his gaze to spot any other enemies that might be sneaking up on them.
  3. A minute later the group arrived at the mouth of the tunnel. Vicius strode in, slowing down to a walk as he entered.
  4. "Indeed." Vicius put the telescope away. "Her forces are still a few minutes back. We should be able to make it there with time to spare."
  5. "One question at a time, please," replied Vicius, holding what appeared to be a telescope to his eye without slowing down. "We're headed to the tunnels. Underground. She won't be able to see us there."
  6. "Yeah! Er, well..." The clerk scratched his head. "I think so, at least. To be honest, I'm not really a star expert. Whatever it is, it's powerful!" He waved. "Here, feel it out. See how compatible you are." "What are we waiting for?" Anikel replied, spurring his horse on. "Let's go rebury some undead." "We fight against the Queen," Vicius replied matter-of-factly. "That is our purpose."
  7. "Yeah, technically. Not much I can do in practice without some of the rarer metals, though." Anikel flicked his sword, severing the bonds.
  8. I will sign up as Doncie Black, a rogue human wearing a hologram that is using their freedom mostly to scam other people out of their money.
  9. "Plain normal," Anikel replied. " 'cept for being nearly indestructible. My pay grade's not high enough for anything better."
  10. The man nodded me. "Follow me. Quickly." He turned and began to jog away. "You may call me Vicius." @Ookla the Kobold @Ookla the Crow
  11. "The Queen's forces are hot on your tail," replied the man. "I can take you to a place where they won't be able to find you."
  12. "There aren't many who dare fight." The bushes rustled, and a man stepped out. He was tall, with the build of a warrior. There was a telescope strapped to his belt. "If you are willing to resist... perhaps we can be allies."
  13. "You fought the Queen's soldiers," the voice recited. "You are an enemy of the Queen?" @Ookla the Crow @Ookla the Kobold "Sword'll take em out, right?"
  14. Yerik exhaled and fell in behind Miyako as the group set off through the forest. They had only been walking for a few minutes when something unusual happened: a voice spoke. "Hold." Yerik jumped, twisting his head to try and see where the voice had come from. @Ookla the Crow @Ookla the Kobold "Well. Might as well go straight, then." Anikel unsheathed his sword. "These things have any weaknesses that you know of?
  15. "Should we go around, then?" Yerik took a few steps towards Hyron, glancing back at Miyako.
  16. "Hold." Anikel blinked. "What in the name of earth is a wraith?" @Ookla the Myopic @Ookla the Unknown Yerik stopped, uncertain. "Um... which direction are we going?"
  17. "Starmetal!" the clerk exclaimed as the man took it carefully. "It fell from the sky." "I can feel it," murmured the man, holding the stone between two fingers and peering at it. "It's an artifact, alright."
  18. "Hmm," muttered the man. "Good luck with that. Officially speaking, there are no essence shrines on Orteo." The desk person came back into the front, clutching a necklace with a piece of metallic black rock on the end of it. "Here it is!" he declared proudly, laying it on the counter. The man walked over and picked it up, examining it curiously.
  19. The man blinked. "An essence shrine? Why do you ask?"
  20. Yerik sighed wistfully. He'd enjoyed flying the carriage, but Miyako wasn't wrong. "Alright," he said, parking the carriage and releasing the controls. "Lead the way." @Ookla the Kobold @Ookla the Crow The Vexlin - a part-Luaxlin, with pale blue eyes - was chatting with the person behind the front desk as Enner entered. "-heard about you. They say you have stones that can give anyone magic." "Uh... well, in theory, yes!" The deskperson seemed rather excited - and a little bit shocked - that someone was asking. "Not everyone can bond one, but there's a good chance you'll be able to. Here, I'll go get one- we can do a preliminary aptitude test right here." He turned and pushed through a door to the back of the building, leaving the two Vexlin alone in the front.
  21. "Ditch the carriage?" responded Yerik, alarmed. "Why?"
  22. "Tell us if it gets any closer," replied Anikel. Yerik spotted a river below and started to descend. "Here's as good a spot as any, I suppose."
