Anikel growled. "Do you swear not to attack us?" The Elder took their slight nods as affirmative. "There are many details about the Queen's abilities that we do not know, but we do know this; if she knows your name, she can control you. From what we understand, that is how she took over the island so quickly. All she would have needed was one name. From there, she would have learned the names of a few more, each of which would know a few more, until..." He spread his hands. "Every living person on the island was under her control." "Except for you?" asked Yerik. "No. This village came several years later. She released a few people from her control, no explanation given, and allowed them to settle here. To be honest..." The Elder shrugged. "We still have no idea why she did it. Or whether or not she will ever change her mind." "Which is why you hide your names?" The Elder laughed bleakly. "Yes, for all the good it's done us so far."

"Ah," replied the Elder, leaning back in the chair. "Yes... as newcomers I suppose you deserve an explanation." He took a long breath. "Where to begin...?" He steepled his fingers, a tired expression on his face. "I must warn you, there is only so much that we know. It is... difficult for us to obtain information. But. Over the years we have managed to piece a few things together." He paused for a moment, considering. "I suppose the best place to start would be the... Queen." He spat the word out like a curse. "She appeared... fifty or so years ago, I believe?" "Fifty-seven," interjected Yerik, eliciting several surprised glances from the other Elders. The Elder paused. "Why... yes, I do believe that is correct." "She's the one who caused everything, isn't she," said Yerik softly. "The reason this island is nameless." The Elder drummed his fingers on the table. "As far as we can tell, yes. The Queen possesses... a certain power over names. I'm sure the Weaver told you never to reveal your name to anyone?" @Ookla the Kobold @Ookla the Crow

"If you have no further requests of this body, please excuse yourself," said the woman in an icy tone. Yerik looked like he wanted to say something, but kept quiet. "Hold on," said the man. "I believe she was suggesting something about... an assault on the Queen?" @Ookla the Kobold

"Are you quite finished?" said the woman sitting at the far end of the right side, her tone as sharp as a sword. "This hall is not a place for petty squabbles."

Inside a group of people sat around a table. The Elders, presumably, although they didn't seem particularly elderly. None of them looked old enough to even be grandparents. They seemed to have been deep in discussion prior to Miyako's interruption, though they were now turning to stare at the intruders. A man sitting at the far end of the table stood. "Who are you?" he asked. "Newcomers," the woman called. "Shipwrecked in the recent storm."

"No," the woman replied tersely. The hubbub of the village quieted slightly as the group passed through the streets. People stopped what they were doing to stare at the newcomers. Yerik spotted several pairs of curious eyes as he scanned every face they crossed, searching. Within a few minutes, they arrived at what appeared to be the de facto center of the village, a tall building with a bell atop it. It seemed to be a forge of some sort, oddly enough. The woman stopped and let out a breath. "Here we are."

"A piece of advice," said the woman as they walked towards the center of the village. She turned her head to look at Hyron. "I heard you say the name of your friend. Do not do that again. Keep your names a secret. If the Queen learns of them, she will use them against you."

"The ruler of this island," the woman said in a hushed tone. "The Taker of Names and the Giver of Names. I have spoken her name once; I dare not do so again, lest I call her attention." The woman shuddered. "No," she said. "Do not try. Or you will face a fate worse than death."

The woman sighed. "Oh, child. If only it were as easy as you think." Her gaze floated upwards, towards one of the rocks floating in the sky. She sighed again, and scooped Fallen Leaf up onto her shoulders. "Perhaps if your ship had not been broken... but it is too late now. The Queen has surely learned of your arrival, and she will not let you escape."

The woman hesitated, glancing back and forth between the three strangers. Her gaze hardened suddenly. "Lethe!" she barked. "Reveal yourself!" Her gaze bored into them, searching for... something. After a moment, Yerik coughed. "Uh... is something supposed to happen?" The woman relaxed. "Not if you are who you say you are." Her expression grew pensive. "You say you're looking for a way to leave?"

Fallen Leaf wrinkled his brow. "Uhhh... forever?" From the village came a shout. A woman came running towards the group, breathless. Her face filled with relief when she saw Fallen Leaf, "There you are," she said, panting. "Where have you been? We've been looking all over for..." She trailed off, noticing who Fallen Leaf had brought back with him. Her face creased with worry. "Who are you?" she asked, an edge to her voice.

After a few minutes of travelling, the group arrived at the village. Fallen Leaf stopped and gestured proudly. "Here it is!" At first glance, it seemed surprisingly large, more like a small city than a village. The village was situated on the banks of the river that the trio had been following, with a water-powered mill with smoke pouring out of the chimney. Looking around, however, it was clear that said chimney was in the minority. Very few of the houses the group passed seemed to be occupied- in fact, they seemed somewhat run down. Near the edge of the forest, several had even been broken down by steady natural growth.
