It's definitely the obvious pairing. I'm glad that Brandon didn't cram it into book 1, I think that would have forced.
-
All three forces can be balanced: the Steelpush forces are slightly upward, which counters the force of gravity. This is what he says to her: "I would, however, recommend that you avoid Push-matches with people who weigh more than you." He says this directly after the section that I quoted, so that's clearly what he's referring to as a "Push-match." Which is counter to your definition.
-
Why would the coins be "rammed into the ground"? It's in a static equilibrium - all the forces are perfectly balanced so it doesn't move. Your argument was that the force has to be roughly constant with a steep drop off near maximum range because otherwise "pushing duels" wouldn't make sense (with "pushing duels" being defined as two Allomancers pushing on the same object, but one overpowering the other, resulting in the object reaching one of the participants). However, there's no indication that these "pushing duels" exist in the books (at least as you're defining them).

@Oltux72 Here's what happens in Vin's "pushing duel" with Kelsier: The stalemate is only broken when Vin breaks the tree that she's pinned against.

I don't think that this effect is going to be noticeable enough to identify kandra. Brandon is concerned about being able to easily identify kandra. He even went so far as allowing kandra to breed with humans, which he clearly didn't want to do, just to ensure that a blood test wouldn't be able to ID them. A "Spidey sense" would likely fall afoul of this.

I don't remember this type of "pushing duel" happening (where one Allomancer overpowers another's Push to force an object into them). The ones I remember involve an equilibrium happening - or at least both Allomancers getting pushed away.

It is a thing, and it's not just an etiquette thing - it's actually against the site rules. HOWEVER, it's only necroing if you're not adding anything of value to the topic (e.g. adding the 16th "I want Shallan to end up with Kaladin" to a 4 year old thread). If you want to discuss something and you find the perfect thread, by all means, revive it rather than start a new, duplicate thread.

Can you elaborate on your pushing duels argument? I'm not sure why they're incompatible with a more normal range-based drop off.

The Blue Team’s turn is over because you guessed incorrectly. It’s the Red Teams’s turn now. I’ll be giving the clue sometime today. Want to join this game? We’ve only just started and no agents have been correctly guessed yet. -

I've added you to the Red team. It's currently the Blue team's turn, but we'll be up soon. Edit: Vin is an Innocent Bystander. -
Elantris is a literal compass
Scion of the Mists replied to Ripheus23's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
We know that Elantris is not a necessary component of whatever creates Elantrians, because Elantrians predated Elantris. -

Where to start? Noobspren needs help.
Scion of the Mists replied to Dresden_Stormblessed's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
What's your favorite book/series? I'd start in the series-specific forum and branch out from there. Or you could start on the Cosmere page of the Coppermind (our version of Wikipedia) and just keep clicking links. -
"Things you may have missed" in Oathbringer?
Scion of the Mists replied to Jofwu's topic in Stormlight Archive
Agree on the orders of Knights Radiant (fully onboard the Ash Dustbringer train). However, Eshonai (the 4th book flashback character is not present). -
This is probably the most common theory. Brandon even refers to it as the null hypothesis, if you will: However, that WoB makes me think that it's more complicated than that and that the reconstruction of Adonalsium is a red herring.

Contrary to Conventional Wisdom…
Scion of the Mists replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
When a colored object reflects some wavelengths and absorbs others, it doesn't store the absorbed light forever - it gets turned into heat and is dissipated. So there's no reservoir of "absorbed EMR" for Awakening to use as fuel. -
You're absolutely entitled to your own feelings. But coming into a thread where people have been working for over a year, trying to tease out the intricacies of Brandon's magic system, just to tell them "It's magic; don't worry about it" seems super unnecessary. By all means, start a new thread about how people spend too much time digging into the mechanics of the Cosmere, but don't derail this one.

How would you traverse Sel's Cognitive Realm?
Scion of the Mists replied to Invocation's question in Cosmere Q&A
This is a really good question. Riino was still a Hoed when he was placed into the pool, so we know that he did not do anything special to prepare ahead of time. My best guess is that someone (e.g. the Ire) was monitoring the pool and intervened to save him. He did end up joining the Ire, after all. -
What I took away from this Shardcast is that there are a lot of different ways to pronounce names in the Cosmere and they're all okay. It seemed like from previous episodes that there was just one right way and people (usually Ben) would always get corrected for doing wrong, which was troubling because my pronunciations frequently misalign with Brandon's. I guess I can feel good about pronouncing things the way that makes sense to me (and you can pry the hard "J" s away from my cold, dead hands...)

This is the thing that confuses me. Full pilots are going to see the real version. Not all of them, but certainly some of them are going to review the version in the library, even if there's a fake one played for the public. Once someone has seen the real version, I'm not sure how it stays a secret. I'm not sure what's more plausible: no full pilots have ever seen the tape or every full pilot is sworn to secrecy and nobody blabs.

That's what I thought too, but Brandon has said otherwise: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/256-oathbringer-london-signing/#e8704
