I thought it was pretty clear that Brandon named the Orders after their abilities. They're not random.

Book 4 Update #1 from Brandon
Scion of the Mists replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Wow, that's impressive. Pretty sure it was at 1% yesterday That's a lot of outlining. -
I don't remember anyone else coming up with a possible Nightblood-Hemalurgy connection. It's very interesting! Especially now that we have the Hemalurgy table: Aluminum spikes take all powers from the victim, and the heart is the universal bindpoint. What are "evil" people compelled to do with Nightblood: stab themselves in the heart.

Atium is the exception. It breaks the "Investiture resists other Investiture" rule because it was developed prior to firming up the Cosmere rules:
-
It's pretty clear from WoBs and the annotations that Reen did actually exist. However, a large percentage of the time when Vin "remembered" Reen's voice, it was actually Ruin:

Random The Final Empire Talk [SPOILERS]
Scion of the Mists replied to Snake Eyes Productions_YT's topic in Mistborn
@Marsh_Man @Shard of Thought You guys would probably be very interested in Mistborn: Secret History. It give some behind the scenes details of things that happen during Mistborn, and reveals some secret aspects of Kelsier's plan. To say anything more would be spoilery, but I highly recommend you guys check it out. -
Random The Final Empire Talk [SPOILERS]
Scion of the Mists replied to Snake Eyes Productions_YT's topic in Mistborn
If you don't mind spoilers, you might find it interesting to check out his Coppermind page: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Kelsier. -
The only planned books that he's already written are Dragonsteel and Aether. Dragonsteel was written decades ago (it was his thesis), and will assuredly require a *ton* of changes. Plus it's hard to pick back up where you left off if you've been away from something for a while (see The Aztlanian). He has not written the rest of Stormlight (7 books), Mistborn (7 books), Nightblood, or the Elantris sequels.

Hoid uses Shardpools to get to/from the Cognitive Realm. Hoid is using Connection to speak the local languages. This is why he sometimes makes mistakes, like "coin" instead of "sphere."

game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Good game everyone! The red team managed to get pretty close at the end. As you can see from the updated Google Doc, our outstanding agents were Tanavast and Cenn, so you were on the right track with Rosharans. Game 10: Does anyone want to volunteer to be a spymaster? Does anyone have a preference for type/theme of game? I believe there was a suggestion for Cosmere places. -
I think one character in particular from Oathbringer would agree with you...

Highstorm and spren?
Scion of the Mists replied to insert_anagram_here's topic in Stormlight Archive
What is this about the Stormfather's "opposite in Shadesmar"? We know what the three "godspren" are: the Stormfather, the Nightwatcher, the Sibling. This is confirmed by many WoBs. -
White Sand/Aether of the Night Mobi?
Scion of the Mists replied to Ammanas's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
You can get Aether by posting in the Unpublished Works forum. This is the only way to get the novel. It comes as a Word document, so you'll have to use some of the above mentioned methods to convert. -
Yes, I agree that there's no way for him to know whether or not the aluminum is actually an aluminummind. However, I don't think that's what the passage is saying. I interpret to be referring to whether or not the belt is another Band of Morning. Not that Wax is claiming that it is definitely not an aluminummind.

game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Unfortunately Sadeas is an innocent bystander (in the game, I mean). That means that the Blue Team has won! Congrats! -
He referring to whether or not the belt was the other bracer (i.e. the other Band of Morning). He was able to use the spearhead as soon as he knew what it was, so he'd just have to touch the belt to know whether or not it was "charged." The spearhead also wasn't just aluminum, but a combination of all the Allomantic metals, so a close inspection of the belt could confirm it's just aluminum

He wasn't suicidal. He believed that if he could save Kholinar then he would finally become a "true" leader. He took Kaladin along because he was convinced that he would mess the mission up (he's suffering from a giant case of Impostor Syndrome) and that Kaladin, as a true hero, would be able to bail him out. P.s. @Benedictify Try to keep major spoilers out of the titles of topics. It's been long enough that you don't need to use spoiler tags in the Stormlight forum in the post itself, but the topic names appear all over the website.

This can still line up with the older WoB that @Calderis linked, which asks "who is the oldest character we know."

era 2 Did Brandon confirm it was possible to make Atium and Lerasium?
Scion of the Mists replied to SteveD's topic in Mistborn
It's definitely possible to split atoms - you may not like the result, though. -
Highstorm and spren?
Scion of the Mists replied to insert_anagram_here's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think that the lessening of the highstorms needs to have anything to do with Shadesmar, or anything magical at all. Hurricanes (which highstorms are based on) naturally die down as the make landfall and continue on land (due to lack of moisture to sustain them). As far as the ocean->land dynamic of Shadesmar: Shadesmar represents the Cognitive beliefs of beings in the Physical Realm. People's perception of where "the ocean" is and where "the land" is doesn't change due to minor, temporary things like waves. It also doesn't change quickly (similar to the concept of hysteresis). However, if there was some sort of cataclysmic event that flooded a city, say, then yes, over time Shadesmar would change to reflect that portion becoming "water" instead of "land." -
I watch after the kids go to bed (and a couple of weeks delayed, clearly). Or, you know, never to early to get them into the Cosmere...

game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Stick is a red agent! There are only 2 more red agents! You guys are up to a 1.8% chance if you guess randomly (and I did my math right)! -
That's true, depending on where the threshold is, you can get a lot of free energy out of it (just like you can from most magics). In this particular instance, I think the compounder would probably suffocate from lack of oxygen (something that brass compounding would not protect you against).

What's the deal with Moelach?
Scion of the Mists replied to Bigmikey357's topic in Stormlight Archive
Odium is not an Unmade. @Mailnaise is right - the Unmade are Splinters of Odium (i.e. small, independent portions of his power that have been broken off of the larger body). See the Coppermind page for more info. I think that the purpose of Moelach is to provide reconnaissance for Team Odium. Odium is not all-knowing and cannot be everywhere at once. I think Moelach's job is to extract information from people who die (while they're in the Cognitive Realm). I agree that there's likely more to him than just the Death Rattles.- 12 replies
