How many atium shadows does a steelrunner have?
Scion of the Mists replied to beantheboy12's topic in Mistborn
I'm not sure how those are different. You'd see the axe-shadow 2 seconds prior to the Steelrunner moving. I'm not saying that the Seer would be able to survive the encounter, only that the advanced warning that they receive from the atium is independent on the speed of the attack.- 43 replies

How many atium shadows does a steelrunner have?
Scion of the Mists replied to beantheboy12's topic in Mistborn
Doesn't burning atium let you see a certain amount of time into the future? Then it wouldn't matter how fast the Steelrunner is, you'd still see the same 2 seconds (to make up a number) into the future.- 43 replies

Throughout most of the book I assumed that her dad didn't go crazy, that he got his mind swapped with an alien, so it was the alien who attacked his flightmembers. However, it's stated pretty explicitly in the book that her father was affected by the Cyto hallucination-thing and thought that all of his friends were already dead and that he was attacking the Krell.

A couple times recently I've been blocked from editing. However, the "intended blockee" is an IP address which is not my IP address. Additionally, I'm signed in with my username. The last time it happened it resolved itself the next day. Any idea what's going on?

So, did humans not evolve from apes in the Cosmere?
Scion of the Mists replied to Mick7655's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In addition to what everyone else has said, there are multiple Earth analogues in the Cosmere, one of which is Scadrial (another being Sel). Leras and Ati designed Scadrial after Yolen (minus all the fain stuff), so we can assume that the non-fain portions are fairly similar to Earth. -
As @ebfritz says, we'll get to see Yolen and pre-Shattering magic. We also might see disease magic on Ashyn (Silence Divine), the Aethers (Aether of Night), and a more in depth look at Threnody. Also, we'll likely get some novellas about random worlds that Brandon finds interesting. Beyond that, Mistborn Era 4 is not going to be confined to Scadrial. As the Cosmere finale, it's confirmed to be a space opera with FTL travel between worlds. Here's what Brandon has to say:

I mean, I guess anything is possible, but it would be pretty strange for neither the Shin nor the Heralds to be aware of that.

Could Shallan be a mistling?
Scion of the Mists replied to SlowAnimation's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yup, that came out a while ago. Good to finally have confirmation! -
Can you explain more about this theory that Honorblades grant all the Surges? I don't remember any indication that this is the case.

What's the (supernatural) deal with Balat?
Scion of the Mists replied to Quantus's question in Cosmere Q&A
Although he wasn't Invested, the beggar wasn't just a run of the mill human. Kelsier could talk to him because he was coo-coo. @insert_anagram_here I really like your Unmade-Essences theory! Have you made a separate post about it? If so, I missed it. -
Nice theory about the higher Investiture level of Nalthians potentially giving them extra time before passing on. I'm not sure about that being the mechanic behind Lifeless retaining some of their past life. It can't be very common for people to Awaken Lifeless right after they've died. We've seen in Mistborn: Secret History that normal people pass pretty quickly.

Didn't know Perpendicularities are insanely invested. I just thought they were like bridges that you can cross the 3 realms with so they have some bit of the shards power. Perpendicularities function as a bridge precisely because they're Invested. A huge concentration of Investiture warps the Realms (like gravity does to space-time) and pierces between them. Can a Vessel give up a Shard without dying?
Scion of the Mists replied to amflare's question in Cosmere Q&A
We've seen when Vessels die that they haven't been affected from age in that way (otherwise they'd be thousands of years old). Brandon hasn't said much about this. What he has said is that when you hold that much power, your "mind, body, and spirit [are] expanded," and you retain some residual effects even after you give it up. Brandon likens this to "a balloon that has been deflated." One of these residual effects is the ability to sense Investiture. Brandon calls these people Slivers. You can check out the Coppermind article for more info. -

Technically we need half our team to pass (i.e. 2 people). Or wait for the 48 hr time limit. -
game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
We've guessed all of the red agents, so the only thing left is the Assassin in White. I doubt that @Turtle373 would have included the assassin in his earlier clues, and it seems like the 3rd and 4th clues were pretty straightforward. So I don't think we have any info about who the Assassin in White. We should pass. -
If Maya revives, will she be the same?
Scion of the Mists replied to Invocation's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think anyone said that Adolin definitely couldn't be a Skybreaker, only that it was not a great fit. Certain orders are better fits for certain types of people; certain orders would take more or less issue with specific actions (e.g. murdering a Highprince). P.s. This is all really off topic. There's loads of other threads arguing over which Order he fits best and whether or not he will/should become a Knight Radiant, and this discussion would best fit one of those. -
What's the (supernatural) deal with Balat?
Scion of the Mists replied to Quantus's question in Cosmere Q&A
It's almost certainly an Unmade. Which one, I'm not sure. Presumably you're referring to this WoB about magical enhancement. The WoB is actually tagged with #unmade. -
Does Investiture Change with Worlds?
Scion of the Mists replied to IGetLIFTed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
By "change your Investiture" do you mean like if you go from Nalthis to Roshar, would your Breath be turned into Stormlight? Then no, it stays the same. It's possible to hack the magic systems so that you can, for example, use Stormlight to power Awakening (or sustain a Returned). This takes work, and different hacks have varying levels of difficulty. However, Nightblood was not designed to drain Breath - he drains Investiture period. So if you have Breath, he'll feed on Breath. If you have Stormlight, he'll feed on Stormlight. Once you run out of easily accessible Investiture, he'll start converting you to Investiture and eat you. (Investiture in the Cosmere is basically a 3rd part of the energy-matter duality in our world; each can be converted to the others) You may want to check out the Coppermind article on Investiture: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Investiture. -
The Coppermind is a great resource for questions like this. It's basically the Cosmere Wikipedia. Beware of spoilers, though. Hemalurgy can indeed be used on anybody, on any planet. You can even use it in the Cognitive Realm. However, Hemalurgy is unpleasant. It has pretty terrible ramifications for both donor and recipient (although less bad for the recipient). For example, good luck finding a spren to bond if your Spiritweb gets super warped. As @Shqueeves said, it's almost certainly impossible to spike a Shard, as they have no body (and consist of an unimaginable amount of Investiture).

Aluminum theory
Scion of the Mists replied to full_spectrum_polychrome's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@Gasper That doesn't explain why you can't detect Aluminum with Allomancy. It's not that you try to Push on it and nothing happens. You can't even try to Push on it because it's as if it isn't there.
