  1. I was referring to the specified problem of a 30ft blade, where the center of mass would be around 15ft away from you (~5m).
  2. Also unsure what rules have been broken, but if you think they have, just use the "report post" button to inform the mods.
  3. Brandon's never explained exactly how it works, but here are a few WoBs where he gives some info: https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=cognitive%2Bflat
  4. Let's say the sword is about 2kg, with a length of 10m, and the grip is 0.2m long. So you have a 2kg weight 5m away on one side and an Xkg weight 0.1m on the other. To make them balance, you'd need a 100kg (220lb) pommel. Not very feasible.
  5. I thought most -mancy terms were magic that manipulated something. So necro-, pyro-, hydro- mancy refer to magics that affect the dead, fire, and water. By that pattern, technomancy would be magic that affects technology.
  6. It's true most of the time, though. The only real exceptions are fluids/non-rigid bodies (like the tides) and spaghettification (which only comes about with really large forces, like black hole large). In general though, the whole point of a center of gravity (or the center of mass, which is virtually identical) is that it's what you get if you were to integrate all of the forces across the whole object While each object would apply a tidal (uneven) force to the spaceship, why wouldn't the two opposing tidal forces cancel? It's actually directly in the books that you can affect parts of objects (Kelsier did it with the bar). The coin hovering thing isn't about affecting part of the coin, it's about pushing from a different point in your body.
  7. Nalthis's Shard is Endowment. @Awaken Returner it's a very interesting question: what happens at higher Awakening levels (if there are any)? I also think that Endowment could just straight up gift (or endow ) people with large quantities of Breath, if she wanted to, similar to what she does with the Returned or what Honor did with the Heralds/Honorblades. P.s. Double posting is against the forum rules. If you need to add thoughts, you can use the "edit post" button to modify your previous post. Edit: @Awaken Returner You can use the "report post" button to notify the moderators that you accidentally double posted. They can delete the redundant post or merge them together. Don't worry about reporting yourself - you won't get into trouble.
  8. I think the main problem is not the mechanics behind the creation of water - it's the creation of water itself. The main restriction on Sandmastery is that you dehydrate yourself when using it, so you have to be careful not to overdo it. Being able to completely bypass that restriction makes it pointless to even have it in the first place.
  9. She pretty much comes right out and says that's why she's doing it:
  10. I agree with Wikim and Pattern.
  11. Not everyone on here speaks English as their first language, so it's best not to nitpick on people's spelling/grammar. But if we are nitpicking, it's canon, not cannon.
  12. Do we know that the Syl-blade and Syl-shield weighed the same? I can't imagine that the knife and the sword weighed the same. Also, yeah, it's the torque that's a problem, not the weight. Torque is dependent on where the center of mass is. Imagine picking up a really heavy bookshelf. Now imagine leaning it over so it's horizontal, sticking out away from you.
  13. Why all the spoilers? Also, this: is my new favorite 17th Shard quote!
  14. Here's the current list:
  15. I'm confused - do smoking/drinking prevent you from having hobbies? And do you consider Brandon's writing career a hobby?
  16. I think the link is messed up. Try one of the ones in a previous post.
  17. It depends on the keycard. One team will have 9 agents and will go first and the other will only have 8 agents. Definitely not - welcome to the Red Team! Add your name to the Google Doc. We’ll get started soon.
  18. Welcome to the Shard! I would highly recommend The Rithmatist. It's by far his best non-Cosmere book (although I do like The Reckoners and Legion as well). The Rithmatist is only like $3 on Amazon - it's a steal!
  19. I'm not an expert in this stuff, but I think you'd have a lot of issues with bullets being fired so close together on the same trajectory. Not to mention the shockwaves caused by the supersonic round passing the subsonic round.
  20. Yeah, much as I wish we could avoid spoilers to increase our player base, I think it's kind of an inherent part of the game. Even if the gameboard itself doesn't have spoilers in it, the Coppermind links and any discussion that takes place are bound to have spoilers.
  21. Thanks! I narrowed down to Rosharan characters, as I think that was @AonDii's original idea. I also randomized the teams. As long as everyone is okay with the board, you and @Rhapsody can exchange a keycard (the Codenames Gadget app is the best for this) and get started. It's been a while since we've had a welcome post, so here's an old one with a quick rules recap. One new rule that we can incorporate (at the Spymaster's discretion) is that for Turn 1 only, it's assumed that you won't be using your extra guess (unless you specify that you want to). It's a minor thing, but it may save a little bit of time.
  22. Rosharan characters sounds good. I'll set up the board.
  23. Good point about Kaladin not being good at stealth missions (just like Vasher!). @Wintersu You should probably add a Stormlight 4 spoiler tag to the title (by prefacing it with "[SA4]") and maybe reword the title. Some people are very adamant about not learning anything at all about the books before they're released. (Not me - I want to know everything as soon as possible!)
  24. Here's what Brandon said in his most recent State of the Sanderson: It will focus on Vivenna and Vasher and likely Yesteel. Other resources: Coppermind: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Nightblood_(book) Arcanum: https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?tags=nightblood+book
  25. This is a great timeline! A few minor things: 2. Ashyn's magic system was not always disease-based. 10. Honor didn't create the Surges when he created the Honorblades. They were a natural part of Roshar. 11. The Oathpact only binds the Fused - Odium is bound by Honor/Cultivation directly.
