Without dire mortal consequences? Like, "Oh hey a Shard. Woooow I'm all expanded and powerful. Nope not for me, gonna drop this now, go back to being a barkeep." A vessel's body appears again physically if the vessel dies, so I'm assuming they have a physical body.....err, in status somehow, Spiritually cryo-frozen? Kelsier gave up Preservation to Vin, but he's kinda questionable since he was a cognitive shadow at the time and he obtained it through unusual means.

I swear there was a WoB on this, but it may have just been discussion in a topic. But I would say yes. -Oh wait, I think I misread your question......You mean the arm is still attached, just grayed and limp like Kaladin's was temporarily? Mmmm.....I doubt it? Since it's not it's own entity? Does a "severed" limb atrophy away or remain like healthy (if nonresponsive) tissue? (Now I'm just thinking about that Idle Hands movie. *face palm*)

But technically they're not just guarding, they are the door. So perhaps it's boring being a door. Seems a literal upgrade from a stick though.

As the title says. Everything else I can think of, from emotions to physical concepts, have been singular spren entities. Sometimes they gather in flocks, like creation spren or glory spren, but still singular. Oathgates, however, have two distinct spren (at least appearance) for one object: I just found this curious. Does each one represent a place, like to/from? Or something more symbolic like the sides of a door?

Chrome. I've tried disabling extensions that might be messing with it, but no luck. It works in Edge.

I pretty sure that Brandon said somewhere there were several characters who were killed off in the original scripts (I can't remember who, but I want to say Szeth and Jasnah. WoB help anyone?), but then ended up being written in more. I'm thinking they may have had a stay of execution, but are still actually on the chopping block. But drafts can change immensely, so who knows.

This is bit random, so if it doesn't belong I understand. BUT... I'm losing my mind dealing with a youtube problem so if any one has advice I'd be most appreciative. About a week ago, all youtube vids for me suddenly began a video lag every 3 seconds. The audio is completely fine. The video just pauses for .5-1 second every 3 seconds, then skips ahead so it's matched up again, then repeats. I've poked around other streaming/video sites and it's only youtube that's affected. It's not buffering either, I really just don't know. I've tried restarting my compy (which is new and nice), watching in lower settings, seeing if anything is acting weird in task manager, clearing my cache..... Also, if I have a window (Word, internet tab, doesn't matter what) opened in front of playing window, it plays fine. So my current work around is to have a tiny 2 inch window open in the corner of my screen. O_o Any ideas?

Mmmm if there is correspondence, what happens if the Unmade represent the opposite of the order. Ashertmarn, who's all about hedonism/overwhelming sensation, might be the polar of the Elsecallers considering how logical/cold Jasnah can be and how Ink refers to her (in a good light) as having the emotions of stone. So Edgedancers, who are all about healing/frictionless might be the polar of Nergaoul who embodies competition/winning/violence. Honestly they all kinda seem like a stretch though.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Zelly replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Driving around town, I had a car in front of me with a Stormlight Archive decal! Geeking out in traffic, I decided not to blow my horn and make the bridge four salute at them, since I try not to act like a crazy lady( at least in traffic). I can't describe how excited this made me. None of my friends and co-workers are into fantasy (I've tried, alas) so it's nice to see someone in my town other than bookstore workers excited for Sanderson. -
Possible.... Here's a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miasma_theory Also this made me think of the old medical idea of the Four Humors (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humorism), which has a chart about colors/elements/organs/etc that struck me as very similar to the one regarding Roshar's 10 essences/Heralds chart found in the Ars Arcanum.

The stuff I think about on my commute home. I was thinking about the different worldhoppers and cosmere aware folks who have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years due to varying magical reasons. It seems like the number of these people would have to be restricted pretty well, considering that a population of immortals would die from lack of resources fairly quickly due to the continuing rising (and rarely decreasing) number of people. In most civilizations we've seen, the immortal population is small, tending to be a group of elite, blessed, etc. Nalthis is an interesting population as you can actually buy your way to immortality (5th Heightening). In animals on Earth, there's a definite correlation between the longevity and birth rates. Animals with long life spans have fewer children less often, while short lived animals breed frequently in large numbers. Then I wondered if some of the immortals we've met either: have developed some sort of sterility as a side effect, or on the other end of the scale, have rampantly produced children across the cosmere (which could have curious implications for investiture as well as wreak havoc on the gene pool of small populations over time).

Welcome! We love a good theory (and usually even a crazy one)! We also have a Discord that has quite a bit of discussion. What's your favorite series from the cosmere so far?

School's starting back soon! So far I've hurt my knee shoving desks and furniture around and soon I'll be covering everything in obscene amounts of patterned duct tape and apple/pencil borders. Extra exciting because they're still painting our walls and shelving and we're all having minor panic attacks about the time crunch. Time to get psyched for some learning wooooooooo I had a lot of coffee this morning. Also this afternoon. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Zelly replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
It's a two-directional hug sorta day. Sometimes when you need one, giving one ends up working wonders as well. So have a hug, and thanks for being hugged. -
I really thought it was going to be Adolin, in part because of the whole rage killing Sadeas. After him I was leaning towards Eshonai or Venli. Dalinar was a complete surprise for me (though the hindsight 2nd read always makes it seem obvious), though a very delightful/stressful one, especially with Odium being all, "Well of course it's you, btw this will hurt."

While googling the difference between ravens and crows, this popped up and made me giggle snort.

What YouTube Channels do you watch?
Zelly replied to GeneralHZRD's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I had to find this topic so I can tell you all about the Marble Olypmics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05VXgM6KrhM It's all these different marble races and events set up on lego courses, but what makes it great is the whole thing is done super professionally. There's a guy doing commentary and takes it very seriously, the marbles have team names and individual names, it's conducted with stopwatches and extra cameras for photo finishes, and there's added props like tiny winning podiums and a marble audience with signs cheering on their favorite teams. There's a whole channel of this guy's stuff. He does the winter olympics and puts the marbles in tiny bobsleds out in the snow. I can't handle it. -
Top book publishing company for Science Fiction/Fantasy?

Tor and Del Rey....although I've noticed I've bought a surprising number of Angry Robot books. -
Basically: Not just Renarin, but all Truthwatchers have foresight abilities. Everything on Roshar keeps saying that seeing the future is of Odium, but it's not like he's got the patent on foresight. I'm proposing that these negative feelings are a result of cultural/religious views or events in the distant past, and not something necessarily true, or at least not fully accurate. The result is that Truthwatchers kept this ability secret from society. We know from an epigraph that their order were fairly closed mouthed about their activities as a whole: We also know at least one Truthwatcher of old some some type of foresight: On the iconic diagram of the Radiant Orders and their connecting surges, Truthwatchers are the only centrally located order other than the Bondsmiths, who as an order are full of oddities and exceptions (only 3 at a time, unusual spren, "pulling" on other orders, etc). I'm thinking Truthwatchers have their own set of unusual abilities such as access to the future. Spiritual access? Plus it's kinda in the name. I mean Windrunners fly around on the wind, Lightweavers weave light into illusions, Truthwatchers...... watching for truth sounds pretty related to foresight to me, or farseeing at the very least.

I'm currently on a DS Summer Flashback! Replaying Phoenix Wright 1-3 (forgot how surprisingly long these games are!) and some Professor Layton. -
I'd give it 3/5. It's interesting and easy enough to read, though slow at times. Also super grim. Everyone's angry and bitter while living in a city that has fallen on hard times. There was a dual mystery at it's core regarding the death of the MC's friend and the earlier death of a god. This was my initial interest and what kept me reading, but.....well the end reveals regarding the two deaths were a little disappointing.
