Merry Christmas everyone!

There are definitely Shards on both worlds, but they are simply less directly involved in the story. If you've read Stormlight you're familiar with the Letter which makes up the epigraphs in The Way of Kings, part of which reads Aons Seons, similar to spren on Roshar, are remnants of Aona. As for Warbreaker, I think most of what we know comes from WoB and not so much from in-cosmere discussions. However, during the process of dying and becoming a Returned, there is a voice that speaks to the person that is likely the Shard.

Shoveling snow......Our best snow shovel is missing and our neighbors have one juuuuust like it. I'm close to starting some drama, but I also have a vague memory that we let them borrow it last year? And they forgot to return it? Hmmm *stink eye*

I think Shallan needs to be very, very careful about losing herself to an Identify more than she initially desired. In OB, she pretends to be Brightlady Merchant Haughtypants (name escapes me) to steal a supply of food from her. At one point, a bit too deep in her role, Shallan considers killing her and stepping into her role. Shallan shakes herself out of it and is a bit freaked out by that line of thought. But I think that if she took on Identity that was detrimental to her own mental health, like pretending to be a vicious serial killer or a madwoman, she may have a harder time shaking off the Identity and especially recovering from it, depending on her actions while in that Identity. It can be liberating to know you are capable of more than what you thought, but it can also be horrifying.

I stopped after Fires of Heaven like 20 years ago, but apparently I need to go finish it!! But I see where you're coming from as the whole "no beginnings or endings" cycle bit is too close.... Unless humanity got involved where and when they shouldn't have and did actually cause a problem by initiating the Shattering. Like if the Dark One could be released too early somehow and it completely imbalances the universe. Sounds like something the Sons of Honor would appreciate.

I'll stick with the crazy idea that the Shattering was a necessary part of Adonalsium's "life cycle". He's not broken, just evolved. The people of the cosmere, however, can't see it. The phoenix rises and flies around the room, but everyone's too busying clutching at it's former ashes to notice it. And if that's not the story then dang it, someone write that story. XD

Regarding Hoid's age.....that "predates the others by a bit" is super vague considering the Cosmere scale. When I say someone is "a few" years older than me, I'm ballparking roughly 5 years. But when you're 10000-ish years old and essentially immortal....seems like it could be anything from 200 to 2000 years.

So, to be honest, I googled it, narrowed it, searched again, and got.............this topic thread as well as what looks like a blog from like 2012 about making cake balls. So @Ookla the Meme-Thief, I had no idea and continue to have no idea.

Someone else that knows about the Marbleympics! *geeks out* I spent an entire afternoon binging on them when I first discovered.

Welcome back, Ancient One! I got my eyes dilated for the first time today. The nurse doing it was very nice, except that he forgot to mention that it causes things to be very blurry temporarily. So after getting eye drops and looking at some funky lights, I sit down in a chair "to wait for the doctor." I pick up a newspaper and my heart stops as I can't make out a single word. So calmed down after finding out its normal. But the temporary shock and worry hit me really hard.

An Ookla, an ookla, and an ookla walk into a bar. Many Ooklananigans follow.

Oh. This makes a lot of sense. I've carved stamps out of rubber before for things like printmaking, but it never occurred to me to use it for cosplay purposes. Neat!

1) Is the Sibling something we're familiar with (like an object/place we've seen) or is it something we're completely unfamiliar with? 2) Of those present at the Shattering that we are aware of, who would you say experienced the most loss as the direct result of the Shattering? (I'm using "loss" in a deliberately loose way, so that it could mean a loss of power or loss of a love one.) Not including Adonalsium, of course. 3) Has Hoid had a direct run in with any of the Unmade? If so, has it been in the last few years (opposed to thousands of years ago). 4) At Galvinar's funeral in Oathbringer, Dalinar overhears Jasnah reading from the opening to Nohadon's Way of Kings. In that passage, Nohadon is speaking to someone who claimed to see the future. Is this person a Herald, a Shard, something else? 5) Were the windblades of Kholinar and similar unusual city structures made in the same way that Urithiru was made?

I changed my member title. It's not going to make sense. But... I'm 99% sure that Peter is an Ookla I knew online back like 2003.

I want to take Disney's Little Mermaid and re-imagine the whole thing as Syl and Stormfather instead of Ariel and King Triton. Rebellious daughter with a fascination for the other world, collecting baubles from markets, watched by her worried and stern father who doesn't trust the humans. --------------- "Daddy they're not barbarians! They still have honor!" "They're dangerous! Do you think I want to see my only daughter betrayed by some spearman's oath!" "I'm 2000 years old, I'm not a child anymore!" "Don't you take that tone of voice with me young lady! As long as you live under my sky, you'll obey my rules!" ----------- "Part of Your World" wouldn't even require much editing, it fits so well. XD

Sweet Heat Skittles are an abomination and a crime against tastebuds. (Adding to the literary discussion, it bothers me that Catcher in the Rye is considered high school reading. It's about a teenager, but that doesn't mean it was written for teenagers. It's meant to be an adult reflection on that time of change, loss of innocence, etc.)

What are you playing right now?
Zelly replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Haven't played these yet, but there is a Steam Sale currently in progress....so..... I grabbed Slay the Spire (rogue-like strategy deck builder?), Sneak Thief (pretty sure it's a simulator for robbing people?), Space Pirate Trainer (VR shooting stuff pew pew?), and One Shot (beautiful, short, hits-ya-in-feels Indie thing?). Will update as I go. -

To piggyback off @Rebecca's post, when you buy an extra copy of the Way of Kings so you can give it to someone for Christmas, even if you don't know who you're giving it to yet! -
