  1. I would put Re-Shepir with Lightweavers based on Shallan's confrontation with it.
  2. I think this question will be ultimately answered when we find out exactly how Living Plate functions. We've seen the difference between living blades and dead blades already. We also know pretty much how dead plate functions. We've only had glimpses of what living plate is capable of, i.e. dismissing parts of it at will (how the Radiant in the visions dismisses only the helm for example). I'm still partial to my own theory not only because it makes sense to me but because if Calderis and others are right about crystallized Stormlight then why are the Radiants drawing spren we would consider to be cousins to their spren every time they do something extra Radiantly? Creationspren for Shallan, Logicspren for Jasnah, Lifespren for Lyft, Windspren for Kaladin, Gloryspren for Dalinar. Every time we see one of the Radiants closing in on an upgrade their cousins are drawn to them, more so depending on how far they have progressed. To me this seems related though maybe not so for others. Again, I'm sure that this will not be a mystery past this next book.
  3. In addition to the uncontrolled aspects of Investiture being dangerous in the CR, if a Shard is shattered the only thing that manifests is the Vessel and, if Ati and Leras's deaths are anything to go by, some type of smoke or vapor. Both fade rarher quickly. So first, if Silverlight is built on the sight of Uli Da's corpse the architect of Silverlight would have first had to find a way to keep that corpse from fading into the beyond. Second, it has been stated in a WOB that Uli Da, Vessel of Ambition, was a Sho-Del, another sapient race along with Dragons and Humans. We don't currently know anything about the race, including the average size of it's members. If they're as big as Dragons then I can see buildings that could incorporate a corpse. Not so if they're human-sized. Interesting theory but I don't think it holds up.
  4. I think Brandon misspoke on the WOB that said Bondsmiths don't get Plate. I think he meant blades. Refer to the conversation in OB between Dalinar and SF when he asks about Shardplate. SF tells Dalinar he hasn't spoken enough Oaths, not that he will not attain Plate. Whereas SF specifically tells Dalinar on more than 1 occasion that he will not have a Blade.
  5. Trell is using his Godmetal essence to make the Trellium version of a Kandra. If Trell created a different type of being using his Godmetal then I would agree. Instead he imitates something from an existing Metallic Art. Hence, mimicry. Now, if Trell uses his Godmetal and alloys to fuel a Metallic Art and the power set is similar enough to be recognized by a Scadrian user then that becomes mimicry as well. However, if the resulting power set is completely different then Trell would have created a new Metallic Art. In the case of Hemalurgy, I said before that for a Shard it would be easy to copy or maybe even come up something completely different. Metal, knowledge of bindpoints and Intent. A Vessel without knowledge of bind points probably has enough people and definitely enough time to experiment and find a combination that suits. However Allomancy/Feruchemy are different in that there is a DNA component. Since one carries one's DNA with them the advantage is the abilities gained are not localized. The fuel is common, not specific to any one world. For example, Surgebinders cannot take their power outside the Rosharan System b/c their spren cannot travel. Elantrans of all flavors are unable to perform their magics away from the regional base of their power source. The Metallic Arts are not the only system so easily carried (Aviars and Breath come to mind) but it seems the best one we know of so far. That's the good news. The bad news is that the circumstances involved in the creation of Allomancy/Feruchemy make it difficult for any Vessel to duplicate. Why else would there only be one Shard willing to duplicate the process? It took Trell over 1000 years just to make the proper inroads and even it started off with the easiest Metallic Art.
  6. Allomancy is straight Preservation. Hemalurgy is straight Ruin. Feruchemy is a blend of the 2. That's how it's always been described to me. When Vin burns the mists she didn't become a Fullborn, just an infinitely more powerful Mistborn. When Elend swallowed the Lerasium bead, he became Mistborn not Fullborn. The 3 systems are stongly related whereas they use metal as their focus and the exibited powers are similar, but they are 3 different systems. Just like Surgebinding and Voidbinding are 2 different systems with a similar focus. It's for this reason that I say Trell will only be able to mimic 2 of the 3 Metallic Arts. Hemalurgy is easy because it's sDNA independent. One of the conditions that has to be met for Feruchemy to arise is to have friction between opposing Shards. So unless Badvadin made 2 avatars of opposing intents to occupy the same place the conditions to create Feruchemy will not be met. Now the expression of said Trellium Metallic Art could look like something a Scadrian would recognize as Allomancy or Feruchemy; the Intent driving the magic is quite dissimilar to Preservation or Ruin. There could be Trellium mistings and Mistborn or Trellium ferrings and Feruchemists but it's unlikely to be both.
  7. I think Shallan and Jasnah are at nearly the same level. 4 Oaths for Jasnah, 1st Oath and 3 Truths for Shallan. It was stated that Shallan as of the end of WOR was an Oath further than Kaladin and he's clearly at 3. Shallan doesn't have plate yet because she hasn't fully assimilated her latest Truth (that she killed her mom). But at the battle of Thaylen City we see Shallan with Brightness and Veil all together, her consciousness with Brightness and her wearing garnet Shardplate. It's ambiguous as to weather the plate is real or illusion. Anyway, I don't think either is at Oath 5 yet.
  8. There may be Trellium ferrings and mistings, or rather I believe it's possible. Just not with anyone with Scadrian sDNA. Badvadin has studied the Metallic Arts to such an extent to where she could possibly create an avatar (Trell most likely) that could have something that mimics the Metallic Arts be their magic system. But the users and super users of said system (ferrings, mistings, Mistborn, Feruchemists, Fullborn) would have to have sDNA infused with Trell. As I think about it though, it would probably be more likely to have either allomancy or feruchemy, not both, and allomancy most likely. Feruchemy was created (I think) from friction caused by 2 shards completely counterbalanced in Intent, in conflict with each other. Trell would not have that friction. So in summary, in order for there to be a Trellian form of the Metallic Arts there would have to be a Shard or Shardic avatar familiar enough with the forces involved to create both the system and sapient beings who would have access to the system. Further, the users would need to posess the sDNA necessary to form a connection with that system. And because there's no friction from an opposing shardic entity there would only ever be one system, allomancy or feruchemy. Or, so as not to create an entirely new people, Trell could go for the Lerasium hack and make it so that a Trellium bead that rewrites the sDNA to allow access to the system. The question then becomes if a Scadrian misting or ferring swallowed a Trellium bead, would they lose their abilities in their original Art?
  9. AThe limiting factor in the spiking scenario is going to be knowledge. Currently the only being in the Cosmere who knows where all the bindpoints are is Sazed. The next most knowledgeable is Trell/Badvadin and she may not know everything about which bindpoints do what. A Vessel with infinite time and a bunch of experimental subjects could probably figure out enough of hemalurgy to make a few waves but I can't see any mortal being able to accomplish much without Shardic intervention.
  10. Another potential problem with adding so many spikes is potentially becoming an entirely different life form. Koloss have 5 spikes, traditional Inquisitors have between 8 and 10, Kandra have 2. What if you misplace a spike and become some type of one of a kind inhuman monster with unpleasant or at least unpredictable characteristics? With 300 some bind points in the human body, it's likely difficult to pinpoint an exact bind point using a spike composed of the right metal without a Shard (Ati preferably since it's his magic system or Sazed as his successor)guiding your hand. To mitigate the metal composition issue you would have to have all Atium-composed spikes. But your hand better not slip, either when taking the ability or gaining it. Also, is there any way to tell what hemalurgic charge a spike has before you charge yourself? I mean you know what effect you were going for presumably, but is there any way to be sure? Because it would suck if you were trying for A-Steel but missed the bindpoint on the coinshot you murdered. Not knowing you didn't charge the spike would be really bad because instead of gaining A-Steel you just stabbed yourself in the eye.
  11. Redemption arcs are all well and good. I like them, at least the way Brandon writes them. I have issues with characters who betray. That's why Amaram was so despicable to me, why Sadeas annoyed me. I didn't mind Moash even at the end of WOR. He was an unsophisticated man thrust into events far beyond him. I almost don't mind that he killed Elkohar. But that pithy bridge 4 salute, knowing that would break the heart of one he called friend, and continuing to do the wrong things that serve no purpose to himself? As much as I hate it I can see a way for Moash to be redeemed. Just not as a Binder of Gods.
  12. Dude I just threw up in my mouth a little. I'm not the type of person to question an author's decisions as long as the work is a good one, but making Moash a Bondsmith may make me drop the series.
  13. I believe a couple of things. One, I think Evi was able to curb some of Young Dalinar's savagery due to both her natural attitudes and by giving him children. Although the Thrill still ruled him in battle, he channeled it better under her influence. With her influence Dalinar became more General than Thug. Two, seeing the mellowing effect from an outsider perspective, one would think that the 2 were a good match. To me, Dalinar seems like an unreliable narrator when it comes to his reclaimed memories of Evi. He indicates that he was pretty much dragged kicking and screaming to civility, yet he makes efforts to be less brutal up until the betrayal at the Rift. Not to mention, her loss wouldn't have hit him so hard had he not cared deeply for her.
  14. Does anyone else think this is similar to what Badvadin is doing with her avatars?
  15. Proof: nothing else explains why he's the only Kholin without a spren. Theory: Nightblood will eventually kill all the Shards and become Adonolasium reforged.
  16. Elend in MFE was Elkohar with a worse father and no real paranoia. A son with an expectation of future rule. While Elkohar tries to be as great as his father, Elend tries to be better. Both realize that being in the driver's seat is different than waiting in the wings. Elend got a chance to learn from his mistakes, Elkohar did not.
  17. Evidence: She tells him he holds her together. He became the keystone. Theory: Shai from Emperor's Soul is a worldhopper and a member of the Ghostbloods.
  18. There's some evidence for this in OB. Oathgates are fabrials too. They do not look like trapped entities to me. I do wonder what type of spren they are though.
  19. We have seen a Bendalloy attach to something of sufficient mass. What we haven't seen, what we won't see, is the Bendalloy user carrying his bubble with him. Objects in motion passing a certain mass threshold will hold a Bendalloy bubble, essentially treating that object (i.e. train) as stationary. But the one generating the bubbles move freely within their boundary. They pass the boundary and leave their pocket of fast time. The reason I say the FTL option were still viable is because when a user leaves a speed bubble they get some acceleration boost for a short time. So, make a speed bubble and go through it. Pass the boundary then immediately make another bubble. Rinse and repeat as often as necessary to get to terminal velocity. Not quite firm enough on physics to figure how to overcome the light speed limit but I know the Bendalloy will get you there. Maybe store weight to counteract the mass increase that comes when approaching light speed?
  20. Bendalloy bubbles don't move with the entity that produces it and the bubbles aren't big. So in order to make FTL travel work medallion wise first we need an insane amount of Bendalloy; the burning rate is ridiculously fast. Next, we need to find a way to make the bubbles larger, large enough to encompass a Spaceship large enough to provide life support to fragile humans. If the first 2 concerns are satisfied then to operate the ship in FTL mode it would look like many, many jumps between bubbles.
  21. Calderis probably has the WOB on deck, the one that states one's spiritweb can be cracked by extreme joy. Intensity matters.
  22. Yea I thought after I wrote it that I got the order wrong. Fused likely came first since Rayse is the aggressor. But we know Cultivation helped, that she's in danger, that she's a target. Likely the same agreement that keeps Odium from her throat keeps her from stabbing him while he's occupied by other matters. The guys are using Shard-fueled surrogates, where's Culti's?
  23. Basically Odium came to town to shatter Shards. He found a better way to do it; his other attempts were successful but ham-fisted. Honor and Cultivation somehow got him to play a high stakes game, some type of binding agreement. Honor's gambit was to create the Oathpact with the Heralds, Odium countered the gambit by creating the Fused. Or perhaps the other way around. Either way, the agreements made were a small part of the greater contest for Roshar between the Shards. The Oathpact is therefore independent of that greater struggle though related. If Honor had not instituted the Oathpact he still would have had to come up with something. What we do not yet know are the terms of the greater contest and what Cultivation's gambit was. That she had one is undeniable and I would not be surprised if it has been hinted at. We have Honor's Heralds and Odium's Fused. Cultivation's Dawnshards maybe?
  24. Spren cannot change their fundamental nature. There's no way a cultvationspren can be any thing else. In fact, that unchanging nature is a primary factor in why spren are so interested in humanity. To a spren, the ability to change is a strength of the species, to be able to form different opinions.
  25. I could be wrong but I don't believe that we've ever seen Shardplate in the process of being regrown. We've seen it broken but not regrown. But if Shardplate was made of crystallized Stormlight, how would it know what form to take from say, a vambrace or a helm? I think to regrow plate a part of it must remember the whole and how those pieces fit together. If all plate was simply crystallized Stormlight then there would be no plate past the Recreance. Without a mind to direct the form the stuff, it wouldn't be able to maintain the structure. Or if it could, it still wouldn't be able to be repaired. War machines with irreplaceable parts. As far as not seeing the actual spren involved in the construction, in every instance we've seen spren in the Physical Realm in physical form, they have never visibly manifested as anything other than a Shardweapon. People see spren in the Physical Realm but they cannot touch them. The only spren in the Physical Realm that can be both seen and touched manifest as Shardweapons. In the case of Shardweapons, we don't see the Spren, we see the form that spren takes. Why should Plate be any different? Why would we be able to see the Spren coalesce?
