True, and I thought of that. The thing with with them is that those were the kandra that rarely left True Home, would never be expected to interact with the outside world in general and allomancers in particular. Presumably the reason a kandra would want an aluminum True Body is because there's a reasonable expectation of encounters with metalborn. The crystal bodies were meant to be pretty. Aluminum isn't pretty. It is inert to allomancy but if the kandra's skeleton is encased in skin then allomancy wouldn't affect the skeleton no matter what it was made of. The exception is of course Rashek+ level allomancers. And for them, if they are pushing then the Kandra is getting pushed regardless. Besides, even if it works as expected And the aluminum body cannot be pushed, its spikes won't be made of aluminum and those can be pushed/pulled. Say I'm Rashek and I push a kandra with an aluminum body. That skeleton may not move but I just pushed your spikes clear outta your body. I win, you're a mistwraith.

According to WOB it's possible to have an aluminum True Body, but the allomantic benefits (such as they are) are probably outweighed by the structural integrity of the metal. That is to say, aluminum isn't very strong as a structural material. I can imagine an aluminum body being quite fragile in comparison to something like steel. Titanium is both light and strong. And any metalborn strong enough to effect a metal skeleton, invested or not, is probably strong enough to push/pull at the metal in blood also. We're talking Rashek level and above.

Could Steris be key to unraveling the mystery of the Set?
Bigmikey357 replied to animalia's topic in Mistborn
So a duraluminum gnat gets a new name. Amplifier. Speaking of duraluminum, does it specify how much of it you need to burn to get an effect? Like, if you only burn one metal flake would it have the same amp effect as an entire vial full? -
[OB] So who is the head of the last order?
Bigmikey357 replied to Bigmikey357's topic in Stormlight Archive
That is kinda what it would have to be. I don't think Brandon is going to change the viewpoint characters he's already stated this late in the game. That's the most likely scenario although there are of course other options. The Eshonai/Venli outlier in the front 5 is an example of a way things can go pear-shaped for the Dustbringer book, although we don't yet know all of Ash's associations. We know she's Jezrian's kid and likely Taln's lover but Jez is dead dead and Taln is getting his own book. Maybe she's Chana's sister? Or she could become a mentor to the main Releaser and her flashbacks are somehow relevant to that person despite not sharing an Order. It's all speculative at this point. I was just wondering semi out loud. -
Ok, maybe this has been answered before so let me attempt to frame this properly. There are to be 10 books in the Stormlight Archive. Each focal character is to represent their order. They are as follows: Front 5 Windrunner-Kaladin Lightweaver-Shallan Bondsmith-Dalinar Willshaper-Eshonai/Venli Skybreaker-Szeth Back 5 (in no particular order) Elsecaller-Jasnah Truthwatcher-Renarin Edgedancer-Lyft Stoneward-Taln Dustbringer-Ash Now I can understand Taln being on the list as the Patron Herald of his Order but Ash? She's supposed to be the Patron Herald of Lightweavers. Chanarach is the Dustbringer Herald, shouldn't she be the one who gets the Dustbringer book? Or Malata, the confirmed Dustbringer we've seen (briefly) on screen? Or will Ash actually shun her own Order sometime later and instead join the Releasers? We have seen destructive tendencies from her previously and living for over 5 millennia has certainly put enough cracks in her soul to qualify for a Nahel bond. From Nale's example we know it's possible for a Herald to achieve a bond. So how's this going to work? If there's a WOB I've missed then feel free to enlighten me.

The problem with F-Copper is 2 fold. The memory is sucked from your mind when you store the memory and it degrades the more you handle that memory. So if you become a banker based off those memories you're going to lose the benefits of those memories in a short amount of time since presumably you will be doing the job on a daily basis. You're going to have to gain experience quite quickly in order to maintain the edge this gives you (if it's even possible in the first place).

I don't think the diagram has been wrong at all. I think the diagram told Mr.T to do what Mr.T needed to do. In a plan like the diagram you cant simply just say "go do this". Smart Mr.T knew that certain plans would fail, certain people would betray, and that certain goals woud be dropped. What the diagram does is give the information needed to get certain goals accomplished, but the diagram can absolutely lie about the truth or about what the diagram really wants in the end. The diagram has restored the nights radiant, assassinated everyone in power that opposed Dalinar, united the nations, ascended Dalinar, and put Taravangian in a position to learn Odium's plans and betray Odium. Odium THINKS he knows Taravangian's plans because Taravangian himself is blind to his own scheme. The diagram knows that Odium would tempt Mr.T, so the diagram was written in a way that would trick Odium and trick Mr.T himself. Mr.T has also secretly leaned that Odium cant see Renarin. If the diagram had written that down, then EVEYONE would know that Mr.T knew this secret, and Odium would likely kill the Diagramists. The diagram is a long con and not a flawed map. That super smart day could have also been a confirmation of faith thing for Mr. T. as well. The Diagram was spot on in nearly every instance until it tangled with Alethkar and the Blackthorn. Then it got spotty, to the point where he was actively wishing for another once-in-a-lifetime day to course correct the creation. Too many more failures and either he or more likely his followers would lose faith in the master document. Basically the Diagram needed a win. It got one.

It's probably why Shallan doesn't have plate yet. She's at her 4th truth. She's said the Words but she hasn't quite taken them to heart. An Oath/Truth not fully internalized won't grant you full powers.

I think we are all getting worked up too much regarding the number of Kholin Radients. This is probably due to having all of the main protagonists having connection to the Kholin fam. But this should be the last time the Radient count is so low. Presumably one of the reasons for the 1 year time skip is to allow for the repopulation of the Radient ranks. Dalinar is a Bondsmith; he and his will always have outsize importance but the difference becomes less pronounced the more Radients there are. Navani becoming a Radient wouldn't particularly bother me but I might be in the minority. Still makes me wonder how does one become a Bondsmith? Dalinar's journey isn't very enlightening since his spren is unique. We pretty much know every other order and how they choose people, what the spren are attracted to in their people. You would think the other Bondsmiths were going to be important people because Dalinar is important and there is only 3 of them. But spren don't look at the world in the same way humanity does. Their definition of important almost certainly won't match a human definition. Also, anyone the Sibling or Nightwatcher chooses for their bondmate becomes one of the 3 most important people on Roshar by default. It could be some half blind peasant from Reshii that wakes the Sibling, says the Words and becomes the warden of Urithiru and would bring nothing else to the table and still be stupid important. The point is we don't know. We don't even know the identity of the Sibling. We don't know the choice criterion for either the Sibling or Nightwatcher. We know Galivar and Dalinar were candidates for Bondsmith, but was that just for Stormfather or could Dalinar have bonded either of the other 2? Was Galivar destined to become bonded to SF had he lived or was he earmarked for NW instead? I am very curious to find out more.

Ditto to the Bondsmiths having no squires. In fact, due to their nature and the nature of the spren they bond it could be argued that the rest of the Knights Radient, the other 9 Orders would function as Bondsmith squires. That doesn't preclude the idea that Navani bonds the Sibling, although some readers may feel Kholin overload. It brings to mind a question though. How were ancient Bondsmiths picked? Were they just randomly selected or were they promoted from other Orders?

[OB] Renarin and Adolin (healing wrist scene)
Bigmikey357 replied to Sun Maker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm not necessarily talking about the healing aspect of the wrist grip. I'm speaking instead of the SR snapshot. If Shallan sees a perfect version of herself she might be able to imagine a version of herself that doesn't need Veil or Radient to cope with the traumatic experiences she has lived through. -
Is there a WOB that mentions if Lyft can gain Investiture like other Radients in addition to conversion of food to Stormlight?

If only Renarin could duplicate that trick with Shallan then maybe she could integrate Veil and Brightness. -

[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
Bigmikey357 replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
Still not sure if Kaladin would go for it. Jasnah I'm sure would see the political advantage of having the foremost Windrunner as her consort and I believe that they'd be good for each other, be a strength in areas for which they are weak. Jasnah is certainly attractive and witty enough to engage Kaladin on a physical and mental level respectively. Problem is, I read Kaladin as someone who needs chemistry and I am not entirely sure any is there. Plus, in a battle of wills, who wins? Who submits?Neither seems the type to give over or compromise easily; an argument between them could set off enough sparks to start a fire in a monsoon. Not saying it's outside the realm of possibility, for my 2 cents i think I need to see more to be convinced. -

[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
Bigmikey357 replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
Every Order has a different Oath progression. I assume that this is due to the type of personality traits the Higher Spren of different orders look for in their bondmates. Skybreakers are rule of law people; it makes sense for their oaths to be well defined and straightforward. Lightweavers are the other extreme. Artists generally speaking have problems adhering to structure; it follows that they speak no oaths beyond the first, instead speaking truths that emphasize self awareness. Windrunners build their Oaths on top of one another, like a staircase where the top is their perfect Ideal while Edgedancers seem to state their Oaths like tenants nailed to a chapel door. All that is a long way of saying that every time we've seen an oath spoken 'on-screen' the structure has been different depending on the Order. Therefore there is no reason to think that there will be any commonalities between the orders as far as their Oaths are concerned other than that there are 5 of them and everyone's 1st Oath is the same. Also, I'm not sure that any order will form a 1 to 1 correlation to the divine attributes associated with their order. The Windrunners seen the most likely candidates for that sort of thing but only Brandon really knows. -
Personally I am not a fan of this theory for 2 reasons. One, Brandon has made it clear so far that this new Desolation is unlike any that came before. Fused aren't trapped on Braize anymore, humanity is more technically advanced, High Spren are tentatively reaching out to Listeners, the newest Bondsmith is bonded to Honor's Cognitive Shadow. Nothing is the same so it would be lame if this vastly different landscape yielded the same results as what happened 4500 years previous. Second, the Oathpact turned out to be a garbage idea anyway. Probably the only thing they could think of at the time (and of course hindsight is 20/20), but it turns out that humans break in the face of never-ending torture. It won't be an effective delaying tactic in the long run as we've seen. Last, I'm not sure that Shallan could hold out for 20 minutes much less 10-20 years.
-
Why would he imply a choice he didn't have? I always read that quote as he could have had Plate had he wanted it. The point of the Oathstone wasn't to murder specifically, just to be a slave to the world. Murder and mayhem was just what his employers most often had him do. He was to serve. Now what if the holder of his Oathstone wanted him to work in a mine? Plate would probably be a better fit for the enhanced strength alone.
-
I wonder if one of Shallan's future truths will be, "My brothers are degenerate assholes".
-
Lashings granted by a blade. Honorblade specifically. And if the theory is correct and the Shin have been stockpiling shards then it makes no sense to take blades to hide away and leave the giant suits of magical armor behind. Shardplate is as uncommon as Shardblades at this point in the narrative, is it not?
-
That's the passage I remembered. He didn't say exactly what I said but the gist of it is the same. He had to choose plate or Blade. Plate interferes with Lashings making it less versatile, especially for a skilled martial artist like Szeth. Saying he had to choose one or the other implies that choice is an option.
-
Something Szeth said adds credence to this theory. When he left Shinovar he said he had a choice, he could have taken Plate or Blade and chose Blade because it was more versatile.
