  1. That's not it. The Bands are like this, 16 metals forming one spearhead. But that's not a way to make a metalmind that can store anything, as if those were just like the Bands, you would be able to store only in a metal that you touch, which can't store everything. Each metal still acts like a separate metalmind. You need more than that.
  2. Yes. I'm not sure if the author of the thread read it, that's enough for me to put it in a spoiler box. I don't want to accidentally spoil the book for someone who just asked a question. TLM spoilers
  3. So how would you steal A-Atium without an Atium spike? They need Atium. He for sure was able to influence them via emotional Allomancy-like effects. That's what Kel saw. He influenced Vin's mother to spike her kid, Gemmel, or Zane. And it was most visible with Marsh, who went to Seren with Sazed making him discover the plate, then on a killing spree in Terris, and then was literally controlled by Ruin to kill Sazed. All of that when Ruin was still imprisoned. Not possible, he would have to be present at creation of every inquisitor, and that can be anywhere - Marsh's "creation" was at some random Skaa house, you want to tell me Rashek was there? We have no evidence to suggest that a god metal alloy spike would have a narrow purpose instead of a wide one. Only one Atium alloy (if that was an alloy at all) was used as spikes that we know what they have stolen. A god metal alloy is likely a middle ground between stealing something specific and taking anything. But because there is almost no evidence for that, all 3 options are more or less equally possible. That's why I presented logical arguments why Rashek wouldn't want his Inquisitors to have access to pure Atium, which for me pulls the probability away from pure Atium spikes in favor of the other options. We have no idea at all what ReLuur's spikes do. Again, we're talking about god metal alloys, that break the pattern known to us. They would very likely do something weird.
  4. Rusts. Wasing the want of knowing the doing. Having the envy. Having the surprise. Notting the having the zeal of the lord. Having the less of it. Wasing the putting into wanting the place of Hoppe. Having the clear now. Having the knowing of doing the cult. Having the wanting of knowing the wind. Translation: Wasing the what of having the doing. Notting the wanting of oppening the Pandora box. Notting the wanting of truring the nip into doing like this. Notting the knowing of doing the wasing good, wasing the hard of it. Wanting the doing of it. Having the fun. Translation:
  5. Yes, that's a way to hack the system, even without compounding, simply tapping connection form a medallion will work. Surprisingly, this is a harder way to do it, there are easier ways to achieve that: TLM spoilers:
  6. Yes, Vasher was Awakening in RoW. But we know he has at least 50 Breaths granting him aura recognition and some basic version of life sense - he senses Syl and Kal. He can Awaken multiple sheets of cloth at once, that's even more than 50 Breaths. He can't make Stormlight fuel Awakening, that's too hard to do, something that even Hoid doesn't know how to do. Ironically, Navani would be the closest to achieving that, as she has already swapped intents of Lights, if she knew the Rhythm of Endowment, she could make Endowmentlight out of Stormlight. Edit: I think there is a simpler way for Vasher to draw in Stormlight, hum its Rhythm, RoW ch 97: He can likely replicate that with a perfect pitch recognition and a sphere of Stormlight. For Szeth, who belongs to Roshar, it would be easier to hear Rhythms without Breaths.
  7. They're based on base metals and native Scadrial god metals, so that might make them normal enough. It's not about Ruin/Preservation. Not every peer into the Future would let them see the same thing as Elend - it's specific to the person burning it. Elend was concerned about fighting with Marsh and Ruin. That's why he saw what he saw. A normal Inquisitor wouldn't see Preservation's plan. He might see Rashek's plan instead, and learn who he really was. That's why it could be dangerous. It would give inquisitors tools to learn about the source of the Lord Ruler's power and how to defeat him. It takes only one disloyal Inquisitor to kill Rashek, and he was very specific in limitations imposed on them to make sure none of them would be able to compound, no Feruchemical powers except for gold etc. He wouldn't risk giving them pure Atium, even in the form of a spike (as they can be burned just for the Atium, ignoring the charge WoB). He knew inquisitors would turn against him sooner or later, that's why he "designed" them with a lynchpin spike. And look, there was one disloyal inquisitor, Marsh, just imagine if Marsh had access to pure Atium, burned it and learned the secret of Rashek's power. Instead of going for the lynchpin spike, he would rip off Rashek's metalminds. Pure Atium is too risky for Rashek to give inquisitors. Even a devoted inquisitor who would learn that his god isn't a real god might turn against him. Ruin would be able to influence them through spikes and possibly even influence their future visions. Cosmere spoilers: Spikes can be used for more then what the Hemalurgic table says. Pewter spike steals Physical Feruchemical powers, but ReLuur's Blessings are made out of it and Kandra didn't figure out how to grant themself powers.
  8. Hey, welcome to the Shard. Yes, you can do that. Denth lied, he wanted to keep Vivenna away from experimenting and using her Breaths. He manipulated her. The easiest way to separate Breaths is do like you said - Awaken something. Some very experienced Awakeners could even to what Vasher/Denth are doing with hiding their Divine Breath - with proper perception, command and visualization they could likely not give all of their Breaths, as some of them would be "invested deep into them". Words of Brandon (WoB) in spoiler boxes: Not sure on that one. It's certain that each Breath has different strength, but once you give it to somebody it gets tied to the identity of that person who now holds it. So technically it shouldn't be unique. But each Breath carries something out of the person who used to hold it - but that's too small of "something" to be noticeable, so swapping Breaths shouldn't make any difference. Cosmere spoilers WoB:
  9. Maybe but I doubt it. Would he consider it a mistake then? And what is the boon and what is the curse? I'm arguing that leaving Nightblood behind is the boon. It just might be that Nalthis magic is so grabby that it will reach to close sources of investiture and use them to power itself. Nightblood has already done that, when Szeth killed with him in Pure Lake. Nightblood draws the light from spheres in Szeth's pouch, not just from his body. And because Nightblood is artificial Returned, it's not a big of a stretch to say a Divine Breath can do the same, reach outside of the body and grab investiture to feed itself. However that seems too easy, and WoBs say it shouldn't be that easy. The problem with Nightwatcher giving him that ability is it is supposed to be easy for him to achieve, he went to Roshar because he knew he can feed with Stormlight. So he should already have this ability before coming to Roshar. Relaying on Nightwatcher isn't that safe if you have limited amounts of Breaths and likely don't want to return to Nalthis or maybe even can't. Likely but we don't even know why they split and how she would do that. She doesn't get directly involved outside the Valley.
  10. Uniforms are described constantly while armor is just rare in comparison. Some breastplates are mentioned here and there, one that didn't protect from disembowelment. Kal got a breastplate and never used it. But I'm just really nitpicky about this. And you know what's better than getting to the gemheart first? Not dying. Shattered Plains hot? Maybe, but they're right next to the Frostlands, in a huge mountain range, on the southern portion of the continet. I think it should be colder, not hotter. They use heater fabrials too.
  11. Enter Vasher, a splinter of Endowment. He just brought a gift. I didn't want to say that he didn't have any good reasons for it - I'm not trying to predict why he and Nightblood separated, only how it happened. I think we can be mostly certain that Vasher brought Nightblood to Roshar (Vivenne's words) so if they had to be separated what would be the best way of doing it? Giving it to some random dude he didn't even know? Leaving it in the middle of nowhere? Or giving it to a Shard, under safe protection of Nightwatcher? Somebody who Nightblood can't influence no matter how hard he would try? Somebody that can't use Nightblood to kill? The problem with this idea is that he hates Shards so why would he leave the most powerful weapon in Cosmere to a Shard who very likely has her own plans? I doubt it. Both Nightblood and Vasher don't seem any different from Warbreaker. Nothing new with them. I personally think it's more fitting for Vasher to just leave Nightblood without wanting anything in return - he is the living embodiment of everything terrible that happened to Vasher, constant reminder that he killed his wife and friends, of terrible things he had done, countless lives he took. That's why I think Vasher said "best mistake". Nightblood isn't his problem anymore. Keep in mind, Nightwatchers don't show up to everybody. Especially to outsiders. There is a chance that even if Vasher went there, he never met her.
  12. Like a black smoke? That's how it looked to Taravangian when he grabbed it. That's how it looks like from CS, Honorspren saw that when he passed through their fortress. Cultivation knew about Nightblood when Taravangian came as she had him already (likely, Dalinar and Taravangian visited her almost at the same time, right after Gavilar's death), but Taravangian didn't predict Nightblood at all in Diagram (he did it without Fortune so maybe that's why). So at least when Taravangian came, she would have Nightblood, she would look into the future and saw a chance of Taravangian killing Rayse with Nightblood. She then decided to intervene and grant Taravangian's wish, Cultivate him. Next, she probably put Nightblood in the correct hands to make sure he will end up with Szeth - likely directly to Nale's hands. I suspect Vasher went directly to Nightwatcher and just gave her the sword with nothing in return. As he said in RoW "leaving the sword was the best mistake he ever made".
  13. You store your mass. This does affect the force of gravity but not gravitational acceleration, so if you fall on someone when you're heavier then they can't push you off themself, but when you fall on them your falling speed is the same because you don't change g=9.81 m/s2. However if you store most of your mass, your surface area to mass ratio increases greatly which means your terminal velocity drops, so you can fall safely from any distance and behave like a feather. Storing mass also affects your momentum and follows conservation of momentum. But F-iron stores just mass, not gravity.
  14. No, she wasn't holding it, she said she can give him "A Blade that bleeds darkness and cannot be defeated.". There is only one blade like this.
  15. What armor? I hardly see armor in SA! (my personal rant) Because armor can be penetrated by arrows and have weak points, and bridgemen can't hold shields well while carrying a bridge. And it takes a few deaths in a single bridgecrew for all of them to collapse and be a target for every single arrow of Parshendi. Also as of WoK Dalinar fully stopped involving Kholin's forces in plateau runs - he didn't need that. Yes, giving them armor and shields is a good bridge between those 2 ideas, yet they are still very exposed - too exposed for Dalinar's liking. And again, what kind of armor exists on Roshar? Plate armor is a rare thing, breastplates too. Leather armor was mentioned. And that's it? I don't remember anything else. The most common armor soldiers use is "uniform"...
  16. Herald's madness manifests in a variety of ways. Just because they're mad, doesn't mean they can't understand complex Relmatic science. Ishar is crazy and yet still understands Relmatics and experiments on spren in new ways, just like Kalak - he precisely explained why trapping Jezrien in a gem killed him permanently and worked with Gavilar on getting out of Roshar. Heralds madness has nothing to do with it. It's more that they become maniacal about a very specific part of their personality, focused on a single intent, like spren. Nightblood was previously seen in hands of Nightwatcher, as she proposed it to Dalinar when he visited her. It's likely that Nale took him from her with an explanation of how he works, or he took him from someone who visited her and got the sword.
  17. The barrier of the bubble absorbs energy. And it has to do with SR. Those WoBs? It can be. That investiture is locked into your soul, it's innate investiture. That form of investiture would be inaccessible to aluminum. But static and mostly kinetic can be touched. But it gets a bit wonky with Chromium and Breaths - it should work the same, and chromium can leech Breaths or maybe even Divine Breath. But that's no different from Preservation's fragment of Scdrians so you should also be able to leech that, but that fragment contains a Connection that gives you metallic arts, so technically burning aluminum or chromium should permanently get rid of Metallic powers you or somebody has. It's getting weird if you think about it that way. Maybe you can do all of that but with the right intent? After all aluminum savant can cleanse his body and spirit out of unwanted effects so it can affect that form of investiture. Keep in mind that's not a primary effect of Lerasium. If Mistborn were to burn Lerasium it would do something else. We don't know what Lerasium does in Allomancy. It's quite good.
  18. It should work. Medallions works when sleeping.
  19. But he didn't do that. Nightblood cannot kill a god. He's too small for that and already too full. He can't kill a Shard. Odium was almost untouched by Nightblood. Rayse on the other hand had a bad day. But Rayse is a Vessel, who used to be a human. He represent only a marginal fraction of Shard's power. Moreover Nightblood didn't "ascend to the spiritual realm" whatever it means. He is like a Shardblade and exists in all three realms at once. Nightblood is essentially a god metal now. He is like a mini black hole piercing through the realms. So when Odium came and created that Vision for Taravangian (wherever it exists), Nightblood pierced through it and was there, as he is in CR and in SR at the same time. He holds a lot of investiture, he is the most invested object in Cosmere. But even 1000 Breaths alone would give similar results (of existing in all 3 realms at once) as Nightblood, Vivenna sword's proves this. So recreating Nightblood is already proven to be possible. I think if Nightblood was a Dawnshard he would be able to destroy the whole planet or even a Shard. Dawnshards are ridiculously powerful. One destroyed a planet, 4 destroyed a god. A single Dawnshard with that Awakening would likely be able to seriously mess up a Shard, Shatter it or fully destroy. But Odium barely even felt Nightblood and Nightblood can't destroy a planet. I think the Dawnshard Destroy would be too close to the existing one that is Change. That's why I don't think this Dawnshard exists as there is already one like that. There are 4 Dawnshards, each should fit to Intents of 4 Shards, more or less, 2 Dawnshards doing the same is too much, there isn't enough Shards for that. Nightblood is like a Returned on steroids. Returned needs to feed his Divine Breath otherwise it will feed with itself, Nightblood does the same, he needs to feed himself with investiture but he has no restrain, he constantly grasps for any investiture he can find and pulls it into himself until he gets full. That's the nature of the Endowment magic system, it needs to be feeded with investiture. Nightblood is just an extreme example. While there were some shenanigans during his creation, as he is right now I don't think he is any different from what we know about him.
  20. I saw that! But I have to reread the book soon to dig into that forum.
  21. Heresy? ME? You're the one that spams some weird things like "ketek". What is this abomination? That's heresy! At least write in High Imperial you heretic! "Wasing the wanting of praizing the tin for hasing the knowing of speaking wasing the best, wasing the wanting the besting of tin, notting wasing to hasing above the tin."
  22. Interesting. So it means that either Inquisitors were using pure Atium for their spikes or that Atium-Electrum alloys steal only any Metalic Art power, or it steals Allomantic Temporal powers as that's what they believed it does in Era 1, per the WoB below. I doubt the Lord Ruler would take the risk and gave them pure Atium, I don’t think he could even make pure Atium, it could be outside the reach of his technology level - Atium likely is like Harmonium and has a very high melting point.
  23. Nah, that's too easy. Yeees, I love that duo in Rithmatist. That's a cool concept that works well with Aons.
  24. I heard about this but I'm not convinced this is true. Yes, in some cases it works that way, like Elsecallers are better with Transformation than Lightweavers, but Ligtweavers can use Transformation together with Illumination and create "solid" illusions. So who is better now? I think that's because of interactions between Surges in each order, they all create subtle differences that make every order use their Surges differently. In some cases there isn't much difference, except for Reverse Lashing, Windrunners and Skybreakers use the Surge of Gravitation in the same way. And I can't find a WoB that would confirm this is a general rule.
  25. She was at 1st when doing that, so she was very inefficient.
