  1. Yea someone said above, my mistake, I haven't read Enders Game yet and just assumed you meant Bugger in the context of English Slang lol. To be fair I think for the average Joe schmoe your opinion is right, but theres a whole lotta people with a whole lotta different ideas of what is Sexually appealing, Dont want to be graphic but there is a wide range of "Tasteful" art of many non humanoid things, so it does kinda boil down to the person
  2. I think the most terrifying shard will be Whimsy, we haven't seen them yet so we cant say for certain but with Odium and Ruin as terrible as they are they have their bindings, Odium can be reasoned with (We see this in both Rayse and Tarv) And Ruin can be tricked, especially due to Ruin being a rather simplistic nature for a shard, Yes both can destroy you in the blink of an eye, but they can be predicted for, Whimsy can't. Whimsy by nature is unpredictable, Imaging laying out an intricate trap for Whimsy only for them to show up, laugh and then do something brand new that you couldn't have planned for, Whimsy could one day shower you in gold then the next turn you into a potted plant. If we go by the idea of each shard having a transcendent power over other shards, I could see Whimsy's being similar to Takaba from JJK, the ability to ignore contracts and restrictions from other shards as long as Whismy finds it funny.
  3. Personally I had no care for Syladin but as of WaT this has become my second highest Kaladin ship (Im still rooting for Leshadin) However I wouldn't mind Syl and Kaladin get together, Kaladin is now of the 5th Ideal and while we haven't seen everything that has to offer we know Sprenn become more Intune with the physical realm as their radiant progresses. Some say Syladin feels predatory due to Syl being "Childish" however if you still see Syl as a child you've ignored her character growth, She was always an adult with Kaladin, yes during the early stages of the bond she was bound to lesser knowing however I dont think this makes her childish, it makes her uneducated (At that point due to her losing many memories) She had her moments of seriousness and she on her own does many things that make her feel more adult than other characters (Approaching Dalinar to help understand Kal better, Telling Kaladin to let someone rescue him, ect.) Another point for Syladin is the fact that Kaladin is now Immortal, many people found Hoid and Jasnah a bit weird due to the age gap and while Kaladin has a time now where he could date someone and it not be weird thats going to taper off, and Kal already suffers from depression for losing people while hes still here, so I couldn't imagine him setting himself up in a situation like that, So Kal dating an immortal makes sense (Leshadin fans rejoice) I cant see many options besides Syl and Leshwi, Chana is more of a joke abt Kal owing Shallan a brother ect ect and the Heralds are essentially Kals patients which would be weird if he dated one.
  4. I think it was because OP was trying to relate with the closest thing humans have to interspecies, although this only applies socially in the past, he makes a fair point in a lot of countries inter-race relations were heavily looked down upon, this mainly came from colonizing countries like America and Britain, this originated from the idea of white supremacy, back then Coloured people were seen as "lesser" and "not human" and obviously that was a stupid argument I in no way support that however it is similar to the arguments made here, obviously it is a bit more accurate as singers actually aren't human. Singers are not a Hivemind, They are human sized (with rare exceptions like Direform, even Warform is just a taller form) and they arent insects, they are never akin to insects, you can make the argument for being similar to cremlings but that is just a poor assessment when theres other crab like species on Roshar that are much similar, Singers are marble skinned humans with shells along their body, its poor form to use clearly wrong words like this to counter an argument. Its fair that you find the shells or skin colouring off putting or such but you dont use that as a point you compare them to things that aren't related to Singers. Im interested to see how you think a dog is more human than a singer, I can give a few points; Dog: No language, No opposable thumbs, not bipedal, Simple emotional intelligence, Cant use tools Singers: Language, Opposable thumbs, Bipedal, High emotional Intelligence, Uses and crafts tools Again like the above point this is using radical terminology to try and make your argument even when its illogical, which is poor form as i said. I agree that the idea of a monkey human relationship is weird in my eyes however unlike with Singers this comes from historical Bias, i grew up watching "funny monkey videos" Watching monkeys do animalistic things so i cant correlate the humanized monkeys in the movies as a sentient being, One of the overarching points of early stormlight is how sophisticated the Singers are, how they arent psuedo animals and tribals but a people desperate for survival, so moot point. (Also Planet of the Apes grossed 362.2 Million dollars, in the top 10 of highest grossing movies of 2001, so again your kinda just lying) I dont think its reasonable to relate eating rust to kissing a sapient non-human, you are right that you can feel sick without feeling morally wronged, however the idea of feeling sick seeing a human kiss a non-human general stems from morality, As I stated above, I dislike the idea of a human ape romance in Planet of the Apes due to the pre established conceptions in my head that Apes are animals and therefore cannot consent, logically i dont see a problem with it but morally im uncomfortable with it, Logically I dont think you can make an argument against it, using the quote from John Lock: "Your Liberty to swing your fist ends just where my nose begins" A person has the right to do however they wish up until it harms you, and i believe its a fair point to say that if you dislike something its not within reason to ban that for other people, so the area for debate comes from morality, and In my opinion the people who find the idea uncomfortable stems from their ability to humanize the Singers. I dont believe there is any biological claim against Human singer relations, if anything Biology helps to reinforce normalization of this, Humans and Singers can procreate, these children can then procreate, as seen in Horneaters and Herdazians, In science this is called Hybradization, however with one distinct counter, Herdazians and Horneaters aren't sterile, This means that Humans and Singers are under the same species, by modern science definition. BUT as said before, this is about how we feel and I say it in this reply, no one has a right to demand a change in your opinion, Im just doing this for fun because I enjoy debating, Have a good day everyone
  5. Exactly? Thats why I said "I personally" This entire post is about "How do YOU feel about it" So I was giving my opinion with logic. I was using it not as a "You must feel this way" but to point out that its a fairly redundant argument using warform because that is their in general least attractive form. Sorry for any confusion as that was not my intention but I thought I was fairly clear in my post that it was about individuals points, In the end you are completely right and I agree, it doesn't matter what other people think its what you think, but this post is about our feelings on it so I decided to give my two cents lol. Very quick edit: Direform is probably even less attractive cus of the spikes lol
  6. I feel like a big portion of outrage against this comes from two main points - Alien aspects of Singers - The changing of forms With the Alien aspect debate, as shown before with the CANNON imagery of singers they are extremely humanoid, the term crab people while common is a community thing the relation between singers and crabs ends at shell, they dont have claws or mandibles or eye stalks, they dont lay eggs nor breath underwater, the face is never plated and for the most part they arent spiky to a major extent, only Direform and Warform really show this spiky-ness and for warform its only ridged at certain points. The argument that "Warform is icky and gross" is redundant because its a warriors form, I personally wouldn't be attracted to someone wearing full plate mail either, but thats the point, different Singers are comfortable in different forms, Rlain persists in Warform because hes a soldier, Venli stays in Envoyform because shes comfortable with it. Thats the different, once Roshar is peaceful (If is probably more accurate) I could see most if not all Singers abandoning Warform obviously some would like it as a base form but thats the equivalent of Military dude bros and they dont pull much in the real world so it fits. Forms like Artform, Workform and Nimbleform are probably going to become a precedent for most Singers which makes sense and these forms are started to have less prominent shell being both smoother and sleeker which immediately bumps up the closeness to humans. About the form changing its stated in WoR by Eshonai how the forms change inclination but don't completely lobotomize a singer, a Warform is capable of compassion and fear, a Workform is capable of anger, less inclined yes but that's in some shape human, everyone's different but their core personality remains so sure one day your partner might leave in workform and come back in artform all I can really imagine changing is them picking up a new hobby, they aren't gonna quit their job and leave you to pursue their grand dreams. So far from what we've seen Mateform is probably the most changing of the forms which makes sense because this happens to people aswell, sure not as extreme but thats just another thing to get used to. A warform singer is capable of giving affection, they can and will, we see this in Rlain and in the Direform from the past, yes they will be less inclined that other forms but that is just like people, some people and their levels of affection change week to week or even day to day.
  7. So now that WaT came out and we've seen more of radiant plate I've noticed a small trend in the armours, firstly we have seen four different orders of plate, Windrunners, Lightweavers, Stonewards and Elsecallers. Now for the Stormwall and Jasnah we haven't seen much beyond a single battle scene for each of them and that never focused on them and/or their plate and even with Kaladin and Shallan we havent seen all too much but one thing I did notice was radiant plate having unique powers: Windrunners: Plate more easily protects others Reasoning: We see this during the battle for Urithuru, Kaladins plate flying around the battlefield easily wrapping around others and working with them this belief was reinforced for me when we had the scene in WaT of Shallan testing her plate, Brandon specifically shows how Shallans plate, while being able to be put onto someone cant really move with them. I think this could be for two reasons, no.1: Windrunners are all about protection so it makes sense for their armour to be better at protecting or no.2 Since the armour spren is Windspren it might just lend to their natural mobility over other spren. Lightweavers: Plate appearance and structure can be easily changed Reasoning: In the same scene mentioned above of Shallan testing her plate we see how Shallan wants certain changes to her plate made and her plate responds, now this could possibly work for all plate and i do believe that all plate can change slightly but i think that Lightweavers plate might have more possibilities with this, maybe even changing their plate to look like alternate orders. This keeps up with the idea above as it fits in with the Lightweavers order being illusionists or even due to their armour spren being creationspren. Stonewards: Much larger plate Reasoning: When the stormwall is shown it specifically details how massive his plate is how hes looming over even other shardbearers, this I think applies to the stonewards, while we dont know too much about their order we do know their all about being a bulwark on the battlefield so being a literal walking tank fits into that theme a lot, it also makes sense as Stonewards do seem the most militant order, I cant think of a reason why bindspren would manifest larger plate other than a more psychological view of seeing a massive shardplate fighting would probably rally soldiers. Elsecallers: ??? I couldn't find anything about Jasnah's plate that would imply unqiue abilities beyond her dampening her plates light, this could be the power but it'd be a bit disappointing after seeing the above ideas, you could say its for blending in, like Jasnah did, but that only makes sense on modern Roshar with Non radiant plate, maybe it could be used for stealth missions? But at that point dont summon the plate, if anyone has an idea for Elsecallers and even the other orders i'd love to hear.
  8. Reading what you quoted, i agree, but i still think it applies, as you mention Ishar BELIEVED he was holding back the other Heralds madness, so maybe this Death rattle was some kind of echo of something Ishar said a long time ago. Im also gonna add another Death rattle that I think has new context. “Light grows so distant. The storm never stops. I am broken, and all around me have died. I weep for the end of all things. He has won. Oh, he has beaten us.” Light grows so distant - Stormlight (and its variants) Becoming rare now that Retribution has control The storm never stops - The everstorm now shrouding the whole continent (Save key areas) He has won. Oh, he has beaten us. - This is about Retribution who surely could be considered the winner of the Final Desolation at this point Now my question is, who said this? Maybe the line "I am broken, and all around me have died." could give us a clue?
  9. On a reread of Stormlight now and I stumbled across this specific quote from WoK “The burdens of nine become mine. Why must I carry the madness of them all? Oh, Almighty, release me.” For the most part I assumed this to be Taln, but with WaT I actually think its about Ishar, we saw how Ishar bears the madness of all of them, just thought it was a neat detail.
  10. Im very sorry for being vague i just didnt want to dump a lot of stuff, as i was afraid it'd be unintentional but here is the essential jist The church masquerade as good but secretly atleast the upper crest that is, are working to ascend the Arch Bishop to god status as the god they "Worship" is actually chained and bound to a rock deep withing the High Church (that hopefully will be the final fight) This NPC specifcally is a Pastor for the town the party is in and he is involved in the events and plans of the church but isnt the one to ascend, my general idea was to convey how this NPC is currently out of the parties reach, form what i understand from my players actions is that the PC who is related to the character is going to confront his father about what they found out (Church doing evil stuff but not fully realised yet) i then want the NPC to use a scroll of Power word: Pain (yes im evil) on the PC to indicate the power gap currently between the two and thats where my idea of Mister Suits quote about how time has changed from the Final empire and how now the world is changed by regular people not those born with power These are all useful thank you This is it thank you so much
  11. To summarise the NPC is the father of one of the PCs and is also the pastor for the church in the area, he isn't naturally gifted with magic or power but he has access to a bunch of high level scrolls in the form of business cards, the party just found out the churches involvement and the PC wants to confront his father about it, I plan on him giving a small speech about how the world is changing and i remembered Mr. Suit having a similar quote so i thought to use that.
  12. Im running a semi-modern dnd campaign and one of the big bads is a business man who is kinda like jack horner, no magical abilities but access to a loooot of scrolls and magic. I remember Mr. Suit having a quotes similar and thats the one im currently looking for but i could use as many evil quotes you've got
  13. 84) Hoid is not allowed to throw an Cadmium Grenade into a room of people, yes its funny however what is not funny is starting a war between the Basin and the Malwish
  14. Kinda not connected to the orriginal discussion but does anyone else think that when we get to era 4 scadrian (or maybe all spaceships) will use an advanced form of the allomantic grenades that can utilize feruchemy and then using F-Cadmium as a oxygen supply
  15. Maybe im riding off the "Literally me" trend but Ryan Gosling could play a perfect Kelsier not only has he got the rugged attractive style but hes also shown to be a really good serious actor in movies like Drive and less so in Barbie, combining those two would probably end up with an amazing Kel (I will admit i havent read this whole thread so maybe someone already mentioned it but eh) I think Maisie Williams is meant to play Vin, her role as Arya is very similar to Vin as a character and she played that role amazingly I could see Willem Dafoe as Cett imo Oh no now im thinking about this too much. Elend: Andrew Garfield Straff: Robert Downey JR (his role in Openhiemer shows he can be an amazing bastard of a character ykwim) Lord Ruler: Timothee Chalomet (NOW HOLD ON AND LISTEN, i dont remember how youn the LR was described but ik he was young and handsome, and i meannnnnn but yea i might return later with more who knows
