  1. Coppercloud or an Aviar might do it. Awakened cloak won't.
  2. It is possible. That works by "investing Breaths deep within himself". All goes away except for agelessness. That one remains because he is CS. He is suppressing his Divine Breath, he doesn't look like Returned. He has Breaths on Roshar. It's not about danger, he just doesn't want to be Returned. They have Breaths, both enough for 1st Heightening. Yes, if they were to meet they would recognize that they both have Breaths and how many. No.
  3. The quote form WoK epilogue: Acumen, definition: the ability to make good judgements and take quick decisions. And that fits with WoBs about Wisdom and Prudence. Wisdom definition: the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise. Prudent definition: acting with or showing care and thought for the future. So yes, I think you're spot on. The WoK predicts names of 3 Shards. Good catch.
  4. No one said that thay have Breaths. Well, Vasher said only people have Breaths, Warbreaker prologue:
  5. That's not how it works. SA spoilers:
  6. The map drawn by Shai was acting like the city of Elantris itself - it amplified the power and created a connection to the city Elantris. So that's all that is needed for an Elantrian. That's how an Elantrain needs to start - create an amplifier Aon based on a local geography, to be able to use normal Aons. Every subsequent Aon that they would draw would likely be normal, the same we know, based on Arelon (likely). Like Brandon said in the WoB I've provided in a first post, that's a way to trick a system. For just using F-duralumin and connection - as per WoB, that's all that is needed. Tap connection to Elantris and you can access AonDor on different planets. You don't need another map, because you're tricking the system to believe you're closer to Elantris then you actually are - that's at least what I think is happening. You overcome the location dependency of Selish magic, because you're tricking the system. Because of the WoB about "taping connection will allow you to use AonDor outside of Elantris, on another planets" I believe that Elantrian don't need outside source of investiture, like pure Dor, because he is tricking a system, forming very strong connection to the Dor and that investiture flaws to you through that connection, which is spiritual, which means it goes form CR into SR, which is spaceless, and to you. The same would work with the map Aon - it tricks the Dor into believing that it's right there, on Sel. Shai however likely needs Dor, because she needs to provide Investiture to fuel her Forgery and all use of Forged magic. Unless she found a way around it, which might be possible, yet highly unlikely in my opinion. Edit: Investiture is stuck in CR in a specific location, connected to it, but it isn't any different from all around Sel. I think it's mostly connection. Read those WoBs and decide for yourself
  7. It isn't possible. Nightblood killed Rayse, the Vessel, not the Shard. Nightblood is already full, he can't hold that amount of investiture. Because of laws of thermodynamics, investiture, like energy, can't be destroyed, even if Nightblood command is to destroy. He doesn't destroy investiture. He corrupts it, and then leaks it, returning it back to SR. Nightblood can't consume a Shard, because everything he consumes will return back to SR and to that Shard eventually. Moreover his "mouth" isn't wide enough to consume even a noticeable fraction of Shard's power - for that Shard it would be like a fed mosquito was trying to suck even more blood - the amount of blood you lose is insignificant and unmeasurable. Even with infinite amount of time Nightblood won’t destroy a Shard. Then there is a problem with Shard's behavior. Shard's power is everywhere. He isn't in any specific place. Vessel's mind provides a focus to that power, that can be in a specific place. That's what happened to Rayse - his mind was where Taravangian was, but Shard itself was everywhere at the same time. Nightblood killed the Vessel, but didn't touch that Shard. For a moment, the power's own mind was there, talking to Taravangian. But if Taravangian didn't Ascend, it's likely that the power and the mind of that power would just go away. So you can't stick Nightblood and hold it infinitely in a Shard, because it would just retract. Likely - that is speculation on my part. I think so because Shards are shown to have some limited mind and can make decisions, and because the power left alone would eventually develop a full sentience. That's enough for infinite power to just avoid Nightblood. And on top of that we have WoBs literally saying that Shard's power can't be killed and that Nightblood can't consume the whole Shard. So no, even with infinite time, Nightblood won't kill a Shard. But there is also math: infinity - 1 = infinity. Whatever you subtract from infinity it is still equal infinity. That's Nikliasorm talking about Dawnshards. Dawnshards are The Command. They are the Demand. They grant that reasoning of a deity, allowing the person holding a Dawnshard to make such Command. It's not that only gods can access that power (Adonalsium was somehow Shattered by people who weren't gods themself), it's that a person holding a Dawnshard has a mind so expanded that they can understand Dawnshard's Command. Dawnshards are the will of a god, they give the reasoning of a deity and don't need a god to achieve their full potential: I don't have Dawnshard novella to quote it, but you should read that full quote because it was explained there what it means. Therefore no again, Nightblood isn't a Dawnshard, because Nightblood as a Dawnshard would have that understanding of a deity, and a form of Surgebinding (Awakened command to destroy evil), which would allow him to destroy a planet and a Shard without any effort.
  8. We don't know what circumstances could change Intents or number of Shards. But we do know that Dawnshards are the remnants of the weapon that Shattered Adonalsium and that original weapon no longer exists - Shattering might have changed Dawnshards to those we don't know today. Basically we know too little about the Shattering to say anything specific.
  9. Yes, that's one theory. But there are many others. So many. We suspect 1 Dawnshard corresponds to 4 Shards, just like on the Allomantic table. I don't see 8 Shards that could fit to 2 Dawnshards that are more or less about change (positive or negative). We clearly has something about emotions (Odium, Devotion, Valor, Mercy, Whimsy, Ambition), binding (Honor, Dominion, Autonomy, Ambition), change (Ruin, Cultivation, Invention, Preservation, Endowment) - this is not the theory, I don't remember, I didn't make it, don't try to criticize any categorization done by me here, I'm just listing some similarities an hour after midnight, to support my words. But that's just my opinion, I know about this theory written by you, I just don't feel it, because for me Shards don't fit. It sounds nice, yes, categorization is very clear and logical.
  10. There are troubles with this. Shallan is still an unreliable narrator, but I think Veil's memories about the Testament can be trusted. There Shallan said: From this we know something was happening in the house Davar, some darkness was spreading there (likely Unmade), this attracted Cryptics who were determined to bond with Sallan no matter how many of them will die (that's what Pattern said to her). This bond was meant to encourage Shallan to help her family and fight against Unmade. So the bond wasn't because of what Shallan was hiding, but what was happening with her family. If theory about Shallan's mother being Herald Chana is true, which all points towards this, this is what attracted Unmade to Davars, and what attracted Cryptics even more to Shallan. Because why would they keep insisting to bond her if she were to kill each of them? Moreover we know you don't have to have big secrets to attract Cryptics, Tien was like that. But in the case of Shallan it's because of Chana. I don't think young Shallan would create versions of herself - there was no trauma yet for her to deal with. There was no point for her to hide that. Radiant is her way of dealing with that past, her childhood, Radiant holds those memories, not "Forgotten" - this was admitted in RoW. This means Shallan knew her mother was a Herald, and killing her caused this Desolation (Taln didn't break confirmed by WoB - that's from This theory) That's likely not the case anymore. Analyzing WoR after Testament reveals, points strongly that all Shardblades Shallan summoned during RoW were Testament, and Lightweavers, like others, get their Shardblades at 3rd Ideal. It was disscused more here. Here's my theory, the words spoken by Shallan when breaking the bond with Testament are important. She would be on 4th Ideal with Testament by those words. I think that's still not the case. The Shallan we know from WoK don't have holes in her memory, she is actively trying to fight against them, like pretending she needs 10 heartbeats, or that she didn't kill her mother, etc. She is in denial, but she didn't create any personality yet - she needs Lightweaving for this. Identity wasn't a problem. Nor her Identity as Cosmere property did change - but we know too little about Identity to know what it is. As Pattern said, Cryptics were willing to send as many spren to bond her as needed, even if she were to kill all of them. This means changing identity doesn't matter. She had something very special that made them do that (her mother). That can't be spoken to Pattern. Firstly we have WoB saying that if Shallan didn't start to summon her Shardblade (Testament) she wouldn't be able to soulcast. Secondly, the voice she heard was different from Pattern's voice - that was Testament's voice. Thirdly her 2nd Truth was spoken at the end of WoK "I killed my father". That was spoken to Pattern. "I'm terrified" was her first step in recreating her oaths with Testament, which can bring her back to life if all oaths were to be respoken. That makes no sense. Admitting to the lie is like the whole thing required by Cryptics and their bond. What? I didn't expect that at all. For Shallan to rebond Testament, she would need to respoke all her Oaths with her, and that's likely all 4 of them. There would be a lot of "off paging" involved if that was the case in WoR. And Testament wouldn’t pretend she is Pattern. And again, Lightweaving is needed for Veil to come to life. Another off page? I don't think making that many off page events, which would be soooo important to Shallan's arc, would be reasonable. But here is the problem. All Shallans in OB were using Surgebinding on page. Your theory would need 3rd Cryptic to work. Or it was childhood Shallan having the 4th Ideal with Testament. I've missed that point in my theory. Good one. You can't break your bond, deadeye your spren and then say next ideal - that's not like what was happening with Kaladin - he never fully deadeye Syl. Shallan did that. She needs to say all her Oaths again. From the very beginning to the last one she was when she had broken her bond. And we don't know if "I killed my spren" counts as her Truth with Testament or Pattern for now. The problem here is that everything is happening off page. All of this. This can't work for readers. Yes, Shallan is unreliable, but to go this far just makes her a badly written character. It would be like focusing only on subverting expectations, rather than on good character development. And that's something Brandon won't do. He gave us multiple hints in WoK and WoR that Shallan killed her spren. As I said, looking at those parts from the perspective of RoW makes so much sense, now we know that she had 2 spren, she soulcasted with Testament in WoK, and why she doubted she was needing 10 heartbeats for summoning her Shardblade - because she was thinking about Testament. There is more to her past than we know. Yes, her flashback would be put into a new perspective after KoWT, but that's because there are hints there of what was happening. But putting all important stuff off page, sometimes even in between different chapters is just not something that is enjoyable to read. Sorry if I sound too harsh or critical. It's quite a big theory, you clearly put lots of thoughts into it. That's good. But as you can see, there are a lot of holes in it that I see. The most important one is this whole "off page" stuff. Everything can't be happening off page as that would make Shallan just redundant as a character. If you could point out some words, sentences, events from pages, where Shallan behaves suspiciously, said something weird, pointing towards your theory, then you would get some credibility. But basing everything on "off page" just doesn't work for me, when we're talking about a character that appeared in all 4 books of SA, that was known to be unreliable but still was leaving hints on page about her past and secrets hidden in her memories. But still it was fun to read and think about it.
  11. The "in the recipient" isn't Brandon telling that it only matters in recipient, that's him repeating what questioner said: "In the recipient, not the donor.". But in the second sentence of this answer he said: "if you aren't precise about how you spike, you risk taking the wrong thing within the same family." - he clearly talks here about a donor spike - "how you spike [...] risk taking the wrong thing" - taking things happens only when spiking a donor. In this part of the WoB, the questioner is asking about a recipient, while Brandon is clearly answering about a donor - this continues until the very end of the WoB, when the questioner finally gets the answer to his recipient question. That's not what Wax believes in, that's not something we will even know. For Wax killing someone is one thing, ripping off a part of his soul is something very different. Wax is very uncomfortable with the idea of using spikes that killed somebody and took part of their soul. SoS ch 7: TLM ch 69: TLM epilogue 7: So no, Wax would never do something like that. Especially after killing Lessie for a second time with a spike. But you or I would likely risk it
  12. It matters. A lot in the case of Atium. @LewsTherinTelescope cut the WoB, here's the full one: There are multiple binding points in the heart (4 I think), and where you place a spike determines what power you steal. But in the case of Atium-electrum and electrum it doesn't matter if they are the same thing, the same power, the same Misting. Stealing Atium-electrum will steel Atium too. That will be the same binding point. Inquisitors of course didn't know that. So when they would do experiments they would try multiple binding points in the heart and only the one working for Atium would work for Electrum. Yes, but they didn't steal any power, just pure investiture. That might be the reason why. You know there is a difference between killing someone and crippling them for eternity in the afterlife? Wax evan was very not ok with using any kind of Hemalurgy up until TLM, even a pathian spike made him anxious. If you lack conscience and morality then yes.
  13. @Underwater_Worldhopper That was a great explanation. Very nicely done. Maybe F-Atium is weird and it draws from SR from Ruin/Preservation to create a body for a baby when storing? It wouldn't require a lot of investiture, just a tiny bit. But I agree, that's the weird part of F-Atium.
  14. Unlikely, connection doesn't change your steelsight. This doesn't explain if those lines can be stored, but because tapping them won't increase the steelsight, I doubt you could store them at all.
  15. Welcome to the Shard. Looks quite good, but Cultivation isn't about creation, it's about change. Cultivation isn't the opposite of Ruin, they're both very close to each other's intent, as they are both about change. Then the Survival Shard's intent isn't that directly related. It's smart to know to keep its distance, and it's intent might be closer to Wisdom or Prudence:
  16. Spacetime is a four-dimensional plane containing 3 spatial dimensions of x, y, z, and the 4th one which is the dimension of time. Gravity causes the curvature of spacetime in every dimension. I explain cadmium and bendalloy behavior by them just curving the time dimension without touching spatial dimensions. It stretches and compresses spacetime only in one dimension. And that's how gravity works. They both create the same effect via the same principles, but Allomancy is just more limited. Yes, new Lashing would likely be the best way. I didn't want that Lashing to affect the gravitational attraction of the lashed object, only its perceived time.
  17. It's possible, but also possible that his spren wasn't there with him. His Highspren isn't like Syl, his more distant, reserved towards Szeth, observes him but barely speaks or shows himself to Szeth. The Highspren didn't even reveal his name to him. It's likely that he wasn't close enough to Szeth to notice Odium's presence. And Taravagian looking into the future points towards this conclusion, RoW ch 113:
  18. I thought they were the same dragon, but then the Tress Spoiler Stream happened and this question was asked: Iriali left 300 years before Tress, Xisis appeared 200 years before Tress, and Brandon confirmed that's not a coincidence. For me this suggests that Xisis arrived on Lumar after Iriali left, which makes it almost impossible for him to be also Foil from RoW. Iriali were likely spotted on Scadrial in TLM - which means that they left Roshar, spent some time on Scadrial and then went to Lumar, lived there long enough for everyone to consider them native and then they disappeared, shocking everybody on Lumar. That's hundreds of years after RoW, and only then Xisis arrived on Lumar. That puts the Tress's story close to 1000 years after RoW. This is why I no longer think Xisis is Foil, as he wasn't on Lumar during RoW events. And that's good - more dragons for us.
  19. Not that small.1 kg of both matter and antimatter reacting has a yield of 43 Mt. For comparison a 1 Mt hydrogen warhead, carried by quite large and heavy bombs or missiles, converts only around 40 g of matter into that 1 Mt of energy. So just take investiture equivalent of 20 g of matter in one gem, and in the other have the same amount of anti-Investiture and you have a 1 Mt bomb. That kind of small. How big gems would need to be? I don't know, bigger than what was used in RoW, but likely far smaller than the actual 1 Mt hydrogen warhead.
  20. I think I meant that A-Atium and F-Atium being alloys of electrum might make then "normal" enough for Atium-electrum alloy spike to work on them even if it has a more specific purpose. I don't remember now tbf. That's about a spike that's inside their body. What about a spike that has just stolen an ability or wasn't used at all and is just a pure Atium? Inquisitor can just burn them. Why not? They might need Atium for some reason, unexpected fight accrued and they need it, so they would try to burn it and discover it has wildly different effect that their normal Atium. Even without control they have served him well. Just by whispering Ruin was able to do a lot with them. Spook or Penrod are other examples, but that was after his release. It shouldn't. Otherwise Marsh would never lead Sazed to Seren, nor he would never kill all of Synod with other Inquisitors. Ruin took at least partial control over him. Electrum can achieve similar results as pure Atium, effects of pure A-Atium aren't even unique. It’s more about the nature of SR and future vision, pure Atium is stronger which allows you to break through that barrier and reach that moment. But both Atium and Electrum can do that too with some help. But yes, it's limited rather than specialized. That's a good point. However, the Allomantic table doesn't specify the effect of Atium-electrum alloy. By this logic it should be certain that all Allomancers were using pure Atium, but we know that's not true. The same can be with a Hemalurgic table. They included pure Atium spikes, but Atium-electrum spikes were used, but its effect was not written on the table. However, the note about Atium needed to be refined is still a point for you. Edit: I don't think I have anything more to add. We need a WoB on that.
  21. Welcome back. I've missed it Identity. At least that was what I was arguing based on a WoB. Connection won't do it as it isn't affecting your center of self, or even tapping connection doesn't make steel lines stronger: Possibly, but I doubt it would do what you want it to do. That's nicrosil. But tapping connection to Preservation/Harmony might allow you to use Mists as a fuel. My name has been spoken! No idea tbf. Connection won't allow you to increase the range or strength of your steel lines, nor it would make your Allomancy stronger like Nicrosil. At best you could draw from Mists, which would make your every steelpush as strong as duralumin burned one and that would give you a huge advantage - on nights with Mists only. Other than that you can run away from somebody, and store connection to make yourself noticeable to the person chasing you. A neat way to escape. But I have no idea what more can you do with those powers. I believe it would be something cool.
  22. How about two gems, one with Anti-Stormlight and other with Stormlight, connected via Raysium wire. A Windrunner just flies and drops it on a target. A wire isn't touching one of the gems yet, because a Windrunner applied a Full Lasing on it, sticking it to some plate above the gem. The Lasing is calculated to last very specific time, so when the bomb get close to the ground, it runs out, the wire falls onto the gem, where another Full Lasing is applied, this time lasting much more, and thus two gems get connected together via Raysium, a flow of investiture occurs, it mixes together in a gem and annihilate. This would work with some smaller, mid-sized gems, not very small, but those can't be like the largest in use, because once investiture and anti-investiture start mixing, the time is limited before they start to react with each other and destroy gems. But even some medium sized gems can destroy a large swap of lands - anti-investiture is like anti-matter. It's basically 100% efficient, unlike fission/fusion bombs. Even a small amount of it can level a city.
  23. Kind of? Maybe? I don't know. Dawnshards are investiture. But they form a specific command and are merged with the soul of a person. Moreover, they exist in SR mainly or maybe only - not every person can see them, that's for me is an indication that they are mainly spiritual and only a person with strong connection to them can see them in SR. They don't seem to be that strongly invested to bleed into PR and manifest their own physical form of investiture like Shards do - we would see that. Is it even possible to separate part of a Dawnshard from your soul and push it into PR? I doubt it. If you were able to do it, would it remain connected to a Dawnshard, or would it lose that connection completely? Dawnshards are the most invested individuals besides Shards but is that enough to manifest a metal?
  24. Soulcasters trainees create a cheap scrap metal that is sold for nothing. It's rubbish. Use that if you don't have enough metal. Iron deposits are on Roshar, mining is happening. At no time in SA I thought that metal is rare, it's everywhere. A slave trader has several carts with thick metal bars and a soldier can't get simple armor instead of a uniform? Heavy? A simple chainmail weighs around 8 kg. That's not heavy. A brigandine is even lighter. A gambeson, a non metal armor, is around 3 kg. Even a full plate armor weighing around 25 kg doesn't feel that heavy because the weight is spread across your whole body and doesn't restrict your movement. Roman Legionaries were carrying around 30 kg of equipment and could march over 30 km a day. A modern soldier can carry even more weight in equipment. Just wear any armor instead of uniform. No discomfort of wearing armor is greater than death.
