Theoretically possible, practically impossible. People are moving. Hitting one of 4 binding points in the heart of your opponent with surgical precision is impossible when the target is moving. A simple metal armor would deflect and deform the bullet enough to prevent you from getting spiked. A Surgebinder has a Shardplate, it won't work against them. Fun idea, applicable only in some rare circumstances and that's it. Bullets would go right through the body. Or fracture. It would work like you say but not every time. And I think a spike still needs to be placed in the binding point to cause pain.So that's the same problem again.

Odium's champion directly represents Odium himself. That's enough. He doesn't need to fight Odium, Hoid standing on one side of the conflict is enough. Hoid opposing Odium in any way is enough. Because Odium didn't catch him in act in RoW epilogue, they've just met (which seems to be a prearranged meeting, this might include some kind of protection for Hoid), and while Rayse recognized Hoid's influence over Dalinar's first proposal of the contract, he couldn't prove that it was written by Hoid and that Hoid is actively opposing Odium. If Odium caught him when he was comforting Kaladin on Braize, Hoid would be dead. Hoid becoming Dalinar’s champion would be like yelling “I’m breaking our agreement, you can kill me now”. Taking away Hoid's Breaths didn't cause any actual harm to him. That's why Odium could do that.
-
Hoid can’t be caught interfering in Shardic affairs, especially by Odium. Hoid is actively breaking some oaths and agreements he did with Shards, and if he did something so blunt, right in front of Odium's eyes, it would put him in Odium's hand, with deadly consequences. Yes, Hoid can be killed by Shards. RoW ch 80:

How Cosmere-Aware do you think the Court of Gods was?
alder24 replied to Cocoa's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think the differences in descriptions can be explained. Firstly, Lightsong is of 5th Heightening, he has perfect color recognition, Kaladin doesn't. Secondly, Lightsong is Returned, he has greater connection to SR than Kaladin. Lastly, not everything that they saw on a painting was physically on the painting, they were looking a bit into SR, because this painting was made with a piece of soul transferred into it. Grey in Lightsong's painting can be white in Kaladin's painting. The black sword in the center, darkening the sky around, can be 9 shadows in the center. Those are so close to each other that with the Spiritual Realm being involved it can be the same painting.- 10 replies

I think that would make it stable. I think that Harmonium is so unstable because it represents Sazed's inability and conflict to balance Preservation and Ruin as Harmony. After he changes into Discord stability is no longer required, he embraces instability and thus there is no conflict anymore, making Harmonium stable.
-
Might be. As I said there are conflicting WoBs. And Lerasium is even weirder as Lerasium making somebody into a Mistborn is only its side effect, Mistborn burning it would have a different effect (which tends to suggest god metals are burnable by Allomancers only, possibly with Connection to the Shard). Allomantic effect of Harmonium? I think that's death for now

How Cosmere-Aware do you think the Court of Gods was?
alder24 replied to Cocoa's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There are customs on Nalthian perpendicularity, so even if Returned aren't that aware of it, many of their priests would be, especially those around the God-King. They know about trade off-world, other worlds and and stuff like that. The knowledge likely isn't that common among regular Nalthians even in Hallandren, but still significant for some to bother with trading off world or trying to leave with Breaths. Maybe this is known for some more educated class of citizens. This painting was actually intended to be the same as the one Lightsong saw in Warbreaker: Warbreaker ch 26:- 10 replies

Oh yes, radioactive god metal. I love it. What kind of radiation are we talking about? Any hopes for ionising? Can this process be sped up? Is it "fissile"? Basically, can you build a nuclear reactor from it? For me Ruin+Cultivation fits the best as Evolution. It works with you too, but with what you've crafted, Eternity or Recurrence fits better. I see a problem with this configuration. Rain. Majority of rain on Earth, more like 80% comes from evaporation of oceans. With no large bodies of water your water cycle has a problem, manageable however. And you acknowledged it later, that's fine. That's fun, math time! It's ~26000 km above the surface of the planet and has an angular size of around 7 degrees (14x larger than the Moon), which would be massive in the sky. And very bright, until it goes beyond the planet's shadow. What about stone tables? It's a very fun world, especially astronomy is so good. And the idea of fast decay and rotting, and decaying god metal is great. Love this world (and names). Today I was inspired and created some magic system, and now I'm thinking about a world for Mercy.
-
I wrote "anyone" because there are conflicting WoBs on that one. It might be that only Allomancers can burn pure god metals, or any people with sufficient connection to them or literally anyone in the Cosmere. We don't know for sure yet. The idea is that "anyone" should be able to burn god metals, whoever is included in that "anyone" is still the question.

I was thinking the Scar is just a region densely packed with red giant stars or red dwarf stars, a region with young stars that used to have lots of big stars from the main sequence that live very shortly and quickly go into a red giant phase. But there are no white stars on the chart in this region. And there are no red stars anywhere else except for Threnody. The Scar has some yellow and small stars, but the mouth of the dragon and its upper body part are made mainly out of big red stars, with the biggest of them being like a fire that was breathed out from his mouth. There has to be a significance to it. And because the only other red star outside of the Scar is the Threnody star, which we all know what happened there, I think it's fair to suggest Yolen is somewhere among those stars and the Shattering changed something about them. If not Yolen, maybe it's the place where Ambition fled and was eventually Splintered, with all of her investiture spread out among multiple star systems by Odium, to prevent somebody from Ascending just like he did on Sel. This in my opinion makes more sense. If that was just a dust, Isaak might know it and Brandon wouldn't be so cryptic about them: And Isaac has pointed out that there is a significance in colors of stars: But Brandon suggested it's natural (which I find very unlikely) And another WoB. This makes sense if this region is composed of naturally occurring red giant stars - during their lifetime they would grow and swallow their closest planets, even our Sun will grow up to Earth's orbit. But it makes sense if that was because of Ambition Splintering. What if Odium did something similar to Ambition as he did with Devotion and Dominion, but instead of pushing investiture into CR, he pushed it into PR? Because investiture is mass and energy, if he invested stars with Splintered Ambition's investiture, they would now be more massive, which means more gravity which would compress its core, which would heat up, and the heat would go back to outer layers of the star, expanding them into a red giant phase. At least that's what I think might happen:
-
It's not about strength. If Odium were to break his word, he would be in Dalinar's power. This likely means he would have to do whatever Dalinar told him to. And Dalinar would always force him to withdraw from Roshar's affair forever, maybe even take his power from Fused and Voidspren. Odium would be trapped on Braize without any ability to influence Roshar nor other worlds at all. Forever. And there are other consequences: Mistborn spoilers: RoW ch 112:

I don't think she had something like that. She wasn't becoming a Bondsmith yet. The Sibling refused her proposition to bond, deeming her unworthy and they wanted to bond with Rlain, not her. I don't think there was any bond happening between Navani and the Sibling until the Sibling agreed to bond. It's not the same like with the Stormfather, who needed a bond to send visions, nor like with Syl who was attracted to Kaladin. Are there people with white hair?
-
@Koloss17, something from your field of expertise. I don't think you would become a bronze savant faster as the same amount of investiture would flow through your soul. But a F-tin savant for sure, as now you have an external source of investiture stored and tapped in metalminds. You're using Allomancy to fuel Feruchemy. Heresy!
-
How about the other way? Devotion and Odium being Passion and you add Dominion to it to make Passionate Control or something.

Welcome to the Shard. Here are some tips that you may find useful: Don't confuse god metals with Allomancy. All god metals are burnable by "anyone" and produce some Allomantic effect, it's the nature of god metals. Atium is of Ruin and as a god metal it is pure investiture concentrated in a physical form, thus it provides fuel for Atium and Malatium effects, and it doesn't pull investiture from Shards. The way in which Allomancy is associated with Preservation isn't because of what metals can do, but how the power is obtained. Allomancy is a gift which preserves people's strength, with power being granted by Preservation directly. Hemalurgy on the other hand always damages, not only the donor's soul killing them, but also the receiver of a spike too. Feruchemy is the combination of those two - it's a gift, you're using your own strength, you're getting weaker to preserve your strength later. Hemalurgy can be used by everybody anywhere in Cosmere because that's the nature of Ruin, he affects the whole Cosmere as he represents universal decay. Both Allomancy and Feruchemy can also be used anywhere in Cosmere but only by those who already are Allomancers and Feruchemist. All Cosmere spoilers:

That's fine. Alternate Cosmere sounds fun. Anyone wants to remake known Shards? I get s, u not so much. Let's say it's German or Polish u, which I can pronounce. Ohhh, schwa as ə. Get it, kind of. Oh I thought the Tower is like Urithiru, with corridors inside. How big is the Tower? But the perpendicularity being like a moat is a fun idea. Maybe some kind of force bond? That's big. It would be improbable for a rocky planet to have 2 spherical moons that big and impossible to have them on the same orbit. For rocky planets moons are formed either through collision events and subsequent accretion of debris or orbital capture. Once the first moon is formed, it's very unlikely for the second to be formed from the same debris field and remain stable in orbit, not to mention any later impact events, as the already existing moon would disturb any formation of another moon, making debris either collide with itself or with a planet. Capturing another big moon is also very unlikely to happen, as it wouldn't be able to find a close stable orbit and would be flung out by gravity. Rocky planets like Earth are too light in mass to have several massive moons around them. But this is a fantasy. We have a canon planet with 12 moons hanging 300 km from the surface, I made an unrealistic ring system, you can have fun with 2 moons. At least they're not like the Moon. I'm just nitpicking Now I can do the math! So exciting! But I have to ask first, was my calculated planet mass accurate? Assuming the day is 26h long, and my mass was good, your planet's geostationary orbit would be around 46000 km away from its surface (Earth's is around 36000 km). That means that moons on this orbit, with a radius of 500 km, would have an angular size of 1.249 degree, our Moon has the angular size of 0.51 degree. That means your moons are almost 2.5 times larger in the sky than our Moon. That's fine. Calculating more to determinate if 2.3 km difference in radius would be visible, the difference in angular size between larger and smaller moon would be only 0.0057 degree, comparing it to our Moon on closest and furthest point in its orbit, its angular size changes by 0.058 degree and it's almost impossible to see that difference with the naked eye. Your being 10x smaller than that would mean that people would indeed perceive those moons as having the same size. If your moons have a radius of 1000 km, their angular size would be 2.5 degree, almost 5x larger than our Moon. Sooo satisfying Thanks for numbers. Good, close to the Napoleonic period. Bayonets are fun. That clears things out. What happens during the solar eclipse? If your planet is with the same star as the Sun, at the same distance as Earth, orbiting in the same plain, there would be total solar eclipses. If the Green Moon eclipses the sun, would it be dark enough for Dominion’s Splinters to appear? Or because it's below the Green Moon they wouldn't? How do they look in CR? Like humans? Do they use weapons there or have claws there too? I'm asking because spren can have different opinions on the same topic (like Honorspren about bonding) so do your Splinters determine who's worthy based on their individual perception or Shard's perception or people's own perception about themselves. If only Splinter's perception matters, 2 Splinters can disagree on what being Devoted means. If they do temples and shrines, do they make them out of gems and precious metals to make them look like the Tower? I was going to ask about those things. Yeah, it doesn't give any religious vibes. That's still fun! You should try to pronounce some Polish words: chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie (the beetle sounds in the reeds - it loses its charm after translation) Those fits for Dominion and Odium but for me don't represent Devotion. It's hard.
-
Nitpicking time (sorry) Odium hasn't left his power on Sel, but let's just say he visited Sel again once he got freed from Roshar or something. What's the Shard's name? Hatred + Dominion + Devotion = ? Tyranny for Odium + Dominion alone, but with Devotion what about Abuse? I think it "nicely" combines all 3 intents of Shards. Around as close by or literally a moat around the Tower is the perpendicularity? Just a thought that entered my mind quickly - because this Shard and world is focused on tyrannical zeal, how about something similar to extreme emotional allomancy when you burn it? When you burn it you can break into people around you and assume some kind of hemalurgic control over them, turning them into minions of yours, following you like you're a prophet (at least in terms of religious practice)? That's why it's desirable, but the Shard doesn't want to have any competition so he will hunt you down using Splinters. But I still haven't read more than the first section so I don't know how it fits with the rest. MATH! It the mass of your planet 1,77 Cosmere Standard with density of 4.88 g/cm^3? You can't just say "one is 2 km bigger" without giving us approximate sizes of those moons! Are they big and spherical like the Moon, or small and irregular like Phobos and Deimos of Mars? I was going to write a long explanation on why 2 big spherical moons are very unlikely to exist around a planet, especially on the same orbit, but the "2 km larger" made me think they're small and irregular. If that's the case then big plus for a planet with small non-spherical moons! If not, were those moons there before the Shard arrived? Give me the sizes and I will calculate it and tell you if that's not noticeable (and the length of the day is needed for calculating the geostationary orbit) It's midnight and I'm getting excited over numbers. I'm almost able to pronounce it. Almost. How do you pronounce "ú" and "š"? Is that Czech? You're crazy. I'm struggling to come up with one name and you just spit out plural forms with patterns just it’s nothing. How do you people are so good with names? Mad respect. And there is more cool names. But if the red moon has the Night, and green has the Day, does this mean that they only appear during night (red) and day (green)? That's not possible with a geostationary orbit, or an orbit that's a bit shorter than it. You would need to put them at L1 and L2 Lagrange points, but they are 1.5 mil km away from Earth. Or they both appear during both day and night but they just call it that way? How are they behaving in their cities among themselves? What's the focus of their civilization (compared to spren from Roshar)? Are they open for visitors? Can one have his wishes granted by Su'aúrlimmu and deemed Devoted and still be killed by Su'arakalmin and deemed not Devoted enough at the same time? Can you bond Su'aúrlimmu so it can grant wishes only to you? Can you bond Su'arakalmin? That means that the areas where Splinters are the most numerous are changing very slowly, staying almost the same for weeks or months. Or it's not that slightly faster, something like 1.1 revolution per 1 rotation. Oh boy, that's complicated. Is the Greater Prayer the necessary ritual twice a day? And the Lesser Prayer isn't required at all or there is a number of Lesser Prayers you need to do a day? Are women basically doomed to sit in a bathtub all day? Is using a toilet also an impure act? Is pregnancy impure? What about medical procedures? Surgeries? Amputations? Contact with blood? Oooo, from what time period? So is the Shard directly involved in the matters of this world? Are they communicating with his worshippers? War is impure. No wonder they don't do it. I knew it. That's so cool. You're definitely right, it fits so well. Somehow I've missed this... However I've immediately thought about Mars. For what they're using those gems and metals? Do they build temples around the world or are they prohibited (because there is only one temple and that's the Tower, and nothing that humans can build can achieve the greatness of it or something like that)? Are there some variations in religion? Some branches or different practices? What about the ecosystem? Something unique or just Earth-like? Except for wishes, is there any other magic system there? I really like this world. Cool idea, sounds very fun. And the culture, religion and Splinters are so well developed and connected together. The names are also fun to pronounce.

Interesting idea, but as it was already pointed out, how would you charge it? Primar Cubes are charged by physical contact. As long as your enemy is not touching you, the Primar Cube won't work. For Metallic Arts this could be useful against those with pewter, A-chromium, F-brass and that's it, mostly. Even with pewter it would provide only weak power (if it would work by giving that power to you, not by making an area of effect) as the cube would be charged only during a temporary moment of touch during a punch or wrestling. They would still have an advantage over you whenever they're not touching you - they can just start throwing things at you. Intent also might be required, but this is a little bit uncertain. While Marasi used a cube on carriage in BoM ch 17 without knowing what it can do, she at least used Allomancy hoping that the cube would respond to it somehow. Any opponent you encounter would be blissfully unaware of your cube at worst, at best they would notice it, wonder what it does, but never think that they can use it - thus intent won't be provided. I can't see a way for the cube to be charged at distance. If you can figure it out, you might be able to use the same trick as Malwish ships with their weight reduction (if they work on Primar Cubes not medallions) to give you the powers of your opponent. Unless you're satisfied with just emanating powers of your opponent - like general A-steel push. Maybe using a connection duralumin medallion you can connect yourself with the cube thus allowing for transfers of powers, but I doubt it. The cube could be modified by adding an aluminum plate on one side. With this you can always hold the cube with plate on your side, charge it by touching it, and when activated its area of effect would be blocked by aluminum, saving you from its effect. While this isn't really useful for most powers, A-chromium and A-aluminum would be particularly handy with that cube, as you can use your powers, while the enemy would be unable to use them close to you.

Possibly. Rings most likely would begin just above the atmosphere because debris is constantly falling down. Unknown, whatever it was it still can work in space. So it just forms in the ground or rocks. I might have to think about it more. Too much math that would only prove my world is unrealistic. Those in rings should move because they're in orbit. Khriss: Unknown (I'm leaving a room for expantion of this world if one day some new idea strkis me) No, they're alive, Harmony confirmed it in his letter. As I said in my original self-nitpicking, timescale doesn't work Yes, there is room for improvement. Instead of filling every part of this world right away, I left some parts empty on purpose, because I knew I used my rations of invention and imagination for now. But there is another problem with oceans - they would be acidic. Flood basalts produce a lot of CO2, this in combination with H2O produces acid - this is happening slowly on Earth right now, and Vantlar had thousands of years for oceans to become more acidic. Let's just say people don't fish too much in the open ocean for now. Some of those things I didn't give much thought, mostly biology. Khriss: Unknown. Me: No. I don't want it to be created. But Valor might have made some changes. No, I don't want to specify their gender, I was trying to always write they/them, but I still tend to write he/him as a gender-neutral pronoun. Well orange is associated with bravery, but I don't like this color that much But their shape is like you said. Somewhat leaning in my mind to have some spider legs, with sharp needle-like ends that poke their enemies (I hate spiders). But I think what's even better is that their shape can shift, no two Spirits looks alike, they take different but similar forms. Oh and Spirits have to touch the ground, they don't fly in the air. I don't want to specify Valor's color. Valorium is silvery too. Like Atium and Lerasium, nothing special. I have to somehow cover holes in my worldbuilding where I don't have ideas right now I'm leaving mysteries, secrets are more engaging and everyone can adapt this world for their liking in their minds The what? O.o It sounds like a transformer's name Good, very good. Oh good idea. Eyes glowing with fire of color of that investiture. Skin isn't rocky-like, nor metallic, but looks like liquid lava of liquid Dor's color, that flows around your body like lava flows on the surface, looking like it's emerging from your inside and spreading around like lava. Did I mention it looks like lava? Yes, I believe sentience is needed for a Shardblade to cut, a simple god metal sword won't cut like a Shardblade. Spirits are at least self-aware, they can cut because of that. Rapier weighs 1 kg, should be fine, if not it's a bit thicker or just a tip is from Valorium. Pikes to poke Spirits from the deck of ships, rapiers, sabers, some regular looking swords, nothing too complicated. Right, that's my canon Interesting theory. You see, secrets are fun Me too. But I like how logically it works. Possible but impossible. For me the most concerning part is the immediate aftermath of the first 1000 years of the Heavy Late Bombardment-like period on Vantlar. There would be barely any plants surviving this and certainly not evolved to use investiture. And this is the period when the heat is the biggest problem. Because there were literal mountains worth of Valorium, it would significantly cool the planet down, so life could survive and evolve further on poles. And Valorium heat absorption has some interesting consequences - humans can't use it to create Spirit-proof armor, as those would cool their body too much, freezing them. They have to be vulnerable to their attacks (that's why I don't really want to give them aluminum). And it being always cold in touch is so cool in my opinion Great. I'm looking forward to it

Post your unfounded theories about unexplored Shards
alder24 replied to ElectrumSavant's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Those are great and fun ideas. Nice work, I like it. And the WoB you've found is very interesting. To nitpick just a little: As said before, Shards changing happens very, very rarely. Whimsy simply couldn't do that. But there is a Shard besides Harmony that isn't held by its original Vessel (pre RoW) - not sure if that counts Splintered Vesselless Shards like Honor or Devotion etc. Nonetheless, Shards changing Vessels are rare: Invention's Vessel can't be a dragon. We know there is only 1 dragon who is a Vessel and that's Cultivation, Koravellium Avast: I personally believe Mercy is more about "easing the pain by killing you" rather than a good and caring Shard. After all there is something worrying in them and they took part in the battle between Odium and Ambition. -
Yes, there are WoBs, and the mural in Akinah suggests those groupings exists:

Read the quotes I've provided you. At first she was hearing them because of light, but in the finale she was able to hear them on her own, with no help from gems, like Singers do.

No, I think they were mostly brought from Ashyn, as they have human appearance, not Singers. It was but she was wrong: edit:

Stormfather - Latest Theories? [SA5 Prologue]
alder24 replied to HoidIsAdonalsium's topic in Stormlight Archive
Badly, she will cry and who could blame her. But if she were able to push through the Testament's revelation and grow, she can handle that truth too. On the bright side, her mother isn't dead, she is still alive and just insane. That's reassuring, right? I think most of the main characters threads opened in SA 1-4 will be resolved in SA 5, like Shallan's past, Kaladin, Szeth stuff, Dalinar and Honor/Oathpact etc. Waiting 10 years just to see Shallan tell her final truth in someone else's book is anticlimactic kind of.- 31 replies

It does, but likely less than what you would need to create a full Splinter of yourself - you're using someone else's investiture as fundations and only tweak it with your. Thanks for the quote. I suspect it was either because of BAM or Everstorm, which was a part of the storm surrounding Braize, cut off and slowly moved towards Roshar. RoW ch 86:
