  1. I just finished a re-read of Edgedancer last night. I assumed Stump was a Truthwatcher because Nale's Skybreakers targeted her after a report that someone was using illusions (they assumed she was a Lightweaver). But if Stump was healing the orphans in her orphanage, then she must have had the Surge of Progression as well. Illumination + Progression = Truthwatcher.
  2. Good point. Sometimes I forget the details when the books are so long...lol
  3. For anyone who has ever played an MMORPG and got stuck being the team healer...you tend to feel bad for Renarin lol. Never appreciated for what you do. Everyone complains when you aren't around. As far as the thread topic, I'm not sure how the surge can affect physical objects that aren't human. So far we've only seen that surge used by Renarin and Lift to heal people, not restore objects. But it would be interesting if restoring the library was a possibility. Everything does have a "soul" in Shadesmar...
  4. I loved this paragraph.
  5. I like your earlier theory of the secret that broke the KR. The idea that they go to Braize after death like the Heralds is an idea I've had for a while, just never did put all the book quotes together for it. Now with this theory, assuming the spren mimicked the Oathpact with the Nahel bond to the point that it causes a KR to go to Braize after death, why wouldn't the KR return to Roshar with a physical body? That's what the Heralds do.
  6. I saw where the TV show is being picked up by Showtime (which I'm not too thrilled about, don't watch anything on that network). But the TV show will apparently take place about 10 years before Kvothe's story in The Name of the Wind begins. I have a feeling it will tell the story of his parents, might see Kvothe as a newborn in it. This might be a cool way to bring the universe onto the screen, but I believe they're planning on making motion picture films that actually tell the stories of the books.
  7. This one is basically a symbiotic relationship from what I understand. When spren bond with humans, spren gain sentience in the Physical Realm (you see this with Syl for example as she continues to gain more and more memories/understanding of where she is). In return, humans are granted surges as a part of the bond. One of the Listener Songs in WoR points towards this being the case. The spren bonds with the humans are special because humans are in the Physical Realm. The Cognitive Realm is the home of the spren, so the bond with humans allows them to manifest as a sentient being in the Physical Realm.
  8. Yeah, my one disappointment with part one of the book is that Bridge Four is fairly nonexistent right now. Hoping they get some more interaction in later parts of the book.
  9. Was Dalinar getting ready to suggest Ialai take over as highprince before she cut him off?
  10. I think I read his dad passed away recently, so I'm sure he's going through a tough time now. Not quite sure when he answered the questions in that article in relation to that though. Rothfuss is to 21st century fantasy what Tool is to rock music. Takes forever to finish something, but you know you'll love it when it comes out.
  11. I'd also recommend reading all the books through Bands of Mourning before reading the Mistborn novellas in Arcanum Unbounded. The revelations are a lot better if you wait and read Secret History last.
  12. He must be too drunk to know what's going on.
  13. Welcome to the Shard! I remember Mistborn was the first Sanderson book I ever read. It was a roller coaster of a ride towards the end of the book, but I loved it. Keep reading. Have you read any of Sanderson's other books?
  14. It does seem possible that the "constant speed" could be referencing how long it takes the storm to go from one coast to the other, not the speed it takes to circumnavigate the entire planet. Highstorms are close to predictable but not entirely, so there must be some variable with the ocean that makes the movement hard to pin down exactly.
  15. I'm having a hard time thinking of an explanation except do we know for certain that Chapter 23 with Kaladin is taking place on the same day as Chapter 22 when Adolin and Shallan meet with Ialai? Chapter 22 ends with the announcement that a highstorm has been seen at New Natanan, and Chapter 23 shows Kaladin looking for shelter from this same storm. But do we know this particular highstorm traveled from New Natanan to Kaladin's location in the same day? Maybe it's a slow moving highstorm and there is a gap between Chapters 22 and 23 time wise?
  16. Anyone else catch that Dalinar's watch fabrial is specifically mentioned right after he wonders why the Nightwatcher curse is wearing off?
  17. My downside to Elantris is that I enjoy reading about all the workings of magic systems, and just when you get to see the full potential of Aons, the story ends. Most of the book was spent trying to fix the drawing of the base Aon, and when that was finally figured out, we got to see very little use of the magic. The teleportation scene was the biggest use of it. I think I would enjoy reading a sequel at some point that features Elantrians using all sorts of magic. Brandon normally does a great job of balancing an interesting story and highlighting action scenes based on the magic throughout. This book starts with an interesting story, but I feel the middle chapters begin dragging on for a bit because there isn't enough action going on until the last part of the book.
  18. The main part I agree with in this theory is that Honor's "unite them" message could very well be about uniting the humans and Parshendi/parshmen. The idea about the enslavement of the parshmen causing the Recreance is probably more iffy. One possibility of the parshmen enslavement causing the Recreance could be based on the method Melishi used to enslave them. Maybe the "magic hack" used to enslave the parshmen could also be used to "hack" spren bonds with KR? That would potentially allow the Bondsmiths to control other KR and not just parshmen, so the other orders abandoned their spren to prevent the potential of their fate ever being the same as the parshmen. This could mean that the 10th order that didn't take part in the Recreance was actually the Bondsmiths, and the Skybreakers we see in the modern story weren't refounded until sometime later. That idea is probably a stretch, but it's the only thing I could think of that relates the enslavement of the parshmen as a legitimate cause of the Recreance.
  19. My main point against this doesn't have much to do with the actual stories themselves. It's just that Brandon seems to use the whole worldhopping thing as something cool for cameos, but I don't see him using an entire worldhopping species as a major plot point for a separate book series.
  20. @JoyBlu The parshmen weren't enslaved willingly based on the information we know so far. The Parshendi abandoning their gods (aka the Odiumspren bonds/forms) is different than the parshmen being forcefully enslaved. Parshendi dullform is not the same thing as the parshmen "slaveform" for lack of a better term. The "slaveform" was forced upon the parshmen by humans. Hence Jasnah discovery at the end of tWoK..."We didn't defeat the Voidbringers. We enslaved them."
  21. Even though I know where you're coming from, I disagree that the parshman asked the wrong question. Because in these chapters Kaladin is surprised at how Alethi-like that are, as if being like the Alethi is what makes them worthy creatures. You may say humans gave the parshmen a chance at survival because they weren't able to care for themselves. But the only reason they couldn't care for themselves was because of something the humans did to them. It would be the equivalent of crippling someone and then telling them "well at least I'm feeding you, you'd starve without me." But I'm somewhat getting off track. The reason I loved that quote was because of the real-world implications. "A lot of slave owners were nice to their slaves. Gave them meals and a bed to sleep in." Doesn't change the fact that they were forced into slavery in the first place.
  22. This...feels like a dumb question. But isn't Silverlight a city in the Cognitive Realm? How can you see a 3D view of the sky in a 2D realm? Or am I missing something?
  23. Not sure about everyone else but the rock beast reminds me of what a Thunderclast is described to be like. Which a Thunderclast might be a type of Voidbringer but I don't think they all look like that. The most common thing I associate with Voidbringers are the red-eyed Parshendi at the end of WoR that are bonded to Odiumspren via the Everstorm. There definitely seem to be rock giants, but I don't think all Voidbringers look like that.
  24. Never saw that movie. Did I gloss over the giant rock beasts in that part of the Bible or...
