Can a Radiant that doesn't have the surge of Transformation still Soulcast using a fabrial? Or do you end up with some odd effects since the Radiant would have bonded a spren of their own, and the fabrial would contain a trapped spren? I know Radiants hear screams from dead spren Shardblades, but I wasn't sure if spren trapped in a gemstone would cause something similar to that effect or not.

We definitely all know someone in real life who fits the latter definition though lol

Well Brandon is Mormon so I figured similarities would tend to occur in his writing maybe even somewhat subconsciously for him.

Right, I think she's written pretty well for the age of the character, but that doesn't mean she's always enjoyable to read about. Although I do think Edgedancer began to show a side of her I could warm up to more. Her heart is in the right place, she's just young.

I'm about halfway through The Slow Regard of Silent Things. Question for those who have read it:
-
@maxal @Ammanas I actually like the character a good bit. He's just the one that ends up coming up in every other thread around here. I'll partake in the silence now.

To me this comes down to what your definition of overhyped is. Are we talking about characters that the books hype up more than they should, or are we talking about characters that the fan base talks about more than they should? Because from a book perspective, a character like Rysn doesn't even have enough screen time to be overhyped in my opinion. As far as characters in the books go, I tend to like all of the main PoV characters that get the most screen time. So it's hard for me to say "I wish the books spent less time on this character." Because the characters I like the least are usually in interludes anyways. If we're talking about characters the fan base hypes up more than they should, it has got to be Adolin. He shows up everywhere. *braces for @maxal*

theory Reflections of Vorinism and the Shades of the Knights Radiant
Andy92 replied to Pagerunner's topic in Stormlight Archive
I got my copy of AU out and I see what you mean. It's pretty well a definite that Braize has Splinters, and she has a hunch some of them are really Cognitive Shadows. So I guess her research is simply limited due to the danger of Braize in general. I would be interested in knowing the timeline of when these essays were written in comparison to the stories in the books. That answer might be out there somewhere, but I'm not aware off the top of my head. -
theory Reflections of Vorinism and the Shades of the Knights Radiant
Andy92 replied to Pagerunner's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have a question about whether or not it's likely that there used to be a multitude of Radiants surviving in the Cognitive Realm before the Recreance without someone like Khriss knowing about it. I'm not sure exactly where White Sand is on the timeline, I just know it happens early on. If Khriss was around at Silverlight studying the Cognitive Realm before the Recreance, isn't it likely she would have known about the presence of a bunch of Radiants' Cognitive Shadows around Roshar? I feel like that would have been a decently important piece of information to mention in her AU essay on the Rosharian system. I mean there's the possibility nothing like that has been mentioned simply for spoiler purposes. I'm just spitballing about how plausible a large presence of Radiants fighting a war in the Cognitive Realm really is. -
I started watching this series on Netflix over the summer and finished season 5 today. Solid show. I enjoyed the first two seasons the most, but the second half of season 5 was a nice rebound from some of the stuff going on in seasons 3 and 4. I was pretty giddy during the season 5 finale...I enjoyed all of the character appearances in that one.

It's probably because Radiants only get access to two surges. If you had some mega-radiant that could use every surge, that's unstoppable.

Guesses for future prologue perspectives?
Andy92 replied to PatronOfRot's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah but I've read some older comments from Brandon where book 3 was supposed to be Szeth's and it ended up being Dalinar's. So I think there's more to his decisions than just a male/female rotation. -
Guesses for future prologue perspectives?
Andy92 replied to PatronOfRot's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm more interested in a book with Szeth's flashbacks, but I can see why making it the 5th book would work well. It'll probably tie the first arc of the story together nicely as we get to see more about Shinovar and how exactly Szeth became to be the person he is. -
Brandon's intentional reuse of specific phrases.

I always wondered if he consciously meant for the characters in the original Mistborn trilogy to always be frowning.- 6 replies

Hemulurgy can be used Cosmere wide. I'm not sure how it would exactly take place off Scadrial. I'm guessing metal would still be involved though.

Right, kind of moot now. Which I know the original intent of the question was more geared towards knowing if Elhokar could sense Stormlight in a way a normal person couldn't. It probably got RAFO'd just because Brandon didn't want to give any clues towards confirming or denying Elhokar as a KR or something else "not normal."

I kind of assumed Harmony fixed him. But as others have said, finding another spike wouldn't have been too difficult.

Anyone in that crowd should know there's something up with a dude who can fight Shardbearers using no armor and a spear and wins.

I can't answer for the OP but if I had to guess a reasoning, he only dates because he feels he has to due to his family title where marriages are important. It's possible he never stayed in a relationship long because he simply wasn't that attracted to anyone. Shallan is different for him because he likes her personality. I personally don't think he is asexual, but that'd be my devil's advocate take on it.

Where could Earth fit in to the Cosmere?
Andy92 replied to AnonymousFan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@AnonymousFan I can't remember if Yolen has actually been mentioned in a book or not, I don't think it has. But Brandon wrote a book called Dragonsteel for his Master's thesis, and he's going to write a Dragonsteel series towards the end of his Cosmere career that will tell the backstory of the 16 Shardholders from Yolen. -

Andy92 replied to AnonymousFan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You're actually not too far off in your train of thought, but the planet those Shardholders were from is called Yolen. So no Earth, but you're thinking along the right lines. -
Wayne and his hat.

I got downvoted for asking a question about making a Hemulurgic spike out of pancakes so don't feel too bad.

oathbringer Sample Chapters Galore for Oathbringer
Andy92 replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Saw this on Twitter earlier. I wasn't planning on reading before November, but if we're getting an entire section...I might end up changing my mind lol. -
I've only read the first two. I guess the second one was kinda odd too now that I think about it, but I enjoyed it more so it was easier to look past it lol.
