  1. Something else I've wondered about since Harmony came into power in the new era, why are there still mists in the Wax and Wayne books? Did Harmony just keep them so the reformed Scadrial would have some continuity with the old world? I was under the impression that the mists in the original trilogy were actually some form of Preservation's power in the Physical Realm (since that's what Vin breathes in when she Ascends). I could be mistaken with that, but I assumed the mists weren't really needed in the new era.
  2. I always thought the whole deal with Vin and Zane was a bit far fetched in the second book. Tried to put some drama in the Vin/Elend relationship, but exhausting is a pretty good word for it lol.
  3. I also think Sanderson has been trying to take some more liberties with the personalities of the characters he uses in his writing. I didn't care much for Lift when I read her interlude in WoR, but I started to grow to like the character in the Edgedancer novella. Sanderson has developed a lot of great characters with deep personalities over the years. I think characters like Lift and Wayne just allow him to experiment more with his "fun side" as an author.
  4. I think there's a certain realism to Wayne in the way he tries so hard to be humorous because he's probably trying to avoid thinking about his past mistakes all the time. You can tell some of his past murders bear a huge weight on his shoulders, especially with the family he still gives money to because of what he did. I see him as a bit of a Robin Williams personality. Exaggerated humor, but internally might be fighting a lot of his own demons.
  5. I'm kind of starting to think her boon is the ability to eat so many pancakes without passing out...
  6. I was under the impression she thought she wasn't aging because she asked the Nightwatcher for everything to stay the same. So she thinks her age isn't changing. I think it's all in her head though, but I'm curious to see how her character progresses in future books.
  7. That postscript confused me a little bit. Is Lift actually not aging because that's what she asked the Nightwatcher for? Or does she simply think she's not aging because kids think growing up takes forever?
  8. I'd also imagine Brandon wants to keep each series readable on its own terms to some degree. Mixing worlds too much might start making things difficult to keep track of (I find some of it hard to keep track of now lol). I just found his books a few months ago, so I have a lot of catching up to do with Cosmere theories and that sort of thing.
  9. Thanks for all of the clarifications. I hadn't thought about the difference between base metals and alloys, that makes sense. Now I'm curious about the possibility of Allomancers world-hopping to other planets within the Cosmere. I wonder if it would be possible for Allomancers to burn metals of other shards across the Cosmere since they were able to do it with the pieces of Preservation and Ruin? I feel like it could get interesting if you start mixing the shards from books like Stormlight and Elantris with Allomancy.
  10. I'd say the answer to this question is out there somewhere, but I'm not quite sure where to start looking for it. The Ars Arcanum for The Hero of Ages lists 14 metals, and at the end of the book, Harmony tells Spook there are 2 more metals to look for. I'm assuming these 2 new metals are Bendalloy and Cadmium since time bubbles are a big part of the new era. My question is why the original trilogy listed Atium and Malatium as 2 of the 14 metals, but in the new era, these are replaced with Nicrosil and Chromium. I've seen mention of god metals, so I'm assuming that's what Atium was (Ruin = Ati = Atium), but I'm mainly curious as to where Nicrosil and Chromium came from. Seems like there should have been 4 new metals for Spook to find instead of just 2.
  11. I like both eras for different reasons. The original trilogy is more of the traditional style of fantasy that I love to read about. I think the original trilogy had more depth to it. I think the Wax and Wayne books are obviously more casual overall. There's a lot of humor in those books, and I think they're overall just enjoyable to read. I prefer the original trilogy even though both eras are good for what they try to be.
  12. Thanks! Seems like a really cool community. Glad to join in.
  13. I first ran across Brandon Sanderson books back in August. I've finished reading all of the main Mistborn novels up to this point (plus this novella). This novella answered some questions I had during my first read of the original trilogy. The main question that always stuck out to me was how Elend got stabbed at the Well of Ascension. They thought it was Preservation, but I thought Preservation attempting to kill someone was a blatant discrepancy of that shard's nature. Makes more sense that Kelsier put the knife into motion. That's totally something he would do lol. Had to mostly stay away from this website while I was catching up with Sanderson on most of his novels. Think I've read enough now to be able to discuss some things around here without worrying about spoilers so much.
