  1. I could see that working from a film standpoint. Probably introduces Vin and her overall story on screen better than her time in Camon's crew would.
  2. I don't think they'll have any issues making the movie PG-13. You can be "tasteful" with some of the scenes by not explicitly showing some of the violence in detail. I doubt they'd actually show someone getting spiked point blank during a Hemalurgy scene. All of the major action scenes should make the cut. I would open the movie with Kelsier during the prologue of the book where he attacks a noble house. You need to include all of the big pieces like Vin running from/getting wounded by the Inquisitor, Vin killing Shan, Kelsier killing the inquisitor and facing down The Lord Ruler, Vin killing The Lord Ruler, etc. Some of the characters in Kelsier's crew would probably have to lose some screen time for the sake of time. I feel like the movie would tend to focus on Vin's personal story a little more than the Skaa revolution (just assuming Hollywood's mindset). You would have to hit the highlights of the noble parties without spending too much time there. Show the scene with Elend reading at the table and frustrating Vin, but keep the party scenes mostly centered on Elend and Vin. There wouldn't be enough time to show all of the intermingling and social games all of the different houses are playing with each other. I think the story can be done pretty well in 2-3 hours. You unfortunately lose out on a lot of the character building that makes the book special, but I think you could at least tell the stories of Vin and Kelsier well enough.
  3. I was able to place an order for one this afternoon. They released the last 150 copies of the first print today, so there might still be some available if anyone wants to order one.
  4. That makes more sense than how I remembered it.
  5. Didn't Vin end up besting Zane by basically calculating her next move in her head, then she subconsciously moved out of the way at the last second by reflex, so her future shadow that Zane saw ended up being false? Feel like there was some sheer luck involved in that scene to be honest though lol.
  6. Hoid refers to Rayse (before he took the Odium Shard) in a pretty negative way (unlike Ati who was apparently decent before his Shard corrupted him). It's an interesting theory, but Hoid doesn't seem to paint Rayse as someone who would've seeked out "honorable" revenge because he was upset with the others for shattering Adonalsium.
  7. This was the thought that came to my mind.
  8. I could see it working...would also explain how he's stayed alive for so many years in the South.
  9. I guess my idea behind the theory was that it would take a more experienced kandra to create an accurate lookalike of Kelsier's original body. Since Wax saw the scars on Kelsier's arms, it seems to be pretty well detailed. But you raise a good point. I'm not 100% sure how Kelsier could've inhabited the body while a kandra was currently using it...seems like it could potentially be possible, but that part of a bit iffy.

    VenDell in BoM

That would make sense then. I must have glanced over that part.

    VenDell in BoM

I was thinking about a comment VenDell made in BoM when he's showing the projector slides to Wax, Wayne, Marasi, etc. VenDell tells the group that, to their knowledge, four different people have held the power of Ascension: Rashek, The Survivor, The Ascendant Warrior, and Harmony. I'll use the spoiler tag now because my question has some possible Secret History spoilers.
  12. Thanks for the replies! I may try to contact the store to see if they have any plans to restock.
  13. I missed out on this in December. Does anyone know if they might make more prints of this in the future? I saw where the Elantris Leather-bound was in stock, and the description says it's the second printing of it. I'm assuming that means they'll probably do a second printing of the Mistborn Leather-bound, but I wasn't 100% sure what to expect.
  14. Makes sense. I just started wondering when I was reading through Arcanum Unboudned and saw the comment about people on Roshar referring to Splintered Shards as spren. But it makes sense that spren can come from Shards in more than one way.
  15. I thought TenSoon was the one that ended up with them too (been a while since I read through The Hero of Ages though). If any kandra could recreate a decently accurate version of Kelsier, I'd say it's him. I don't really know enough about Cognitive Shadows to understand how Kelsier and Spook managed to pull Kelsier from the Cognitive Realm back into the Physical Realm, but I do think it's possible a kandra could've had a hand in giving Kelsier a body to house his spirit in. Or not...Sanderson comes up with a lot of crazy ideas.
  16. Ah okay. I was wondering if Voidspren were created due to the Splintering of another Shard that may or may not be known by name yet. But if that's the case then there could be a few different scenarios for their origins.
  17. I also wondered if there was some sort of connection between "seeing the future is of the Voidbringers" and what Atium does in the Mistborn series. I know Atium doesn't really let you see the future fully, but it has that general effect when used by an Allomancer. So it's possible that Odium could have a similarity with Ruin when it comes to earning the ability to look into the future. Also, in Arcanum Unbounded, the description of the Roshnaran System says that the locals in this system refer to self-aware Splinters as "spren." If spren are pieces of Splintered Shards, then is it possible that at least one (maybe more) Shards were Splintered in the past to create the spren? I wondered about the possibility of Honor being Splintered when he refers to himself as being dead, and that's where his spren come from. I guess my question is, can spren be created without a Shard being Splintered? Or are spren only the by-products (small pieces) of Splintered Shards?
  18. I remember there was a kandra that used Kelsier's bones after he died to get the attention of some guards in Luthadel during the events of the original trilogy. I wonder if it's possible that a kandra could have made a body using Kelsier's bones, then it was somehow spiked to give Kelsier sentience back in his old body that had been recreated by a kandra...not sure if that's possible, but Kelsier and Spook seem to have discovered something about Hemulurgy that wasn't well known.
  19. Most of the religious figures on Roshar seem to hate the KR for leaving though. The Recreance is portrayed as more of an abandonment than a duty fulfilled.
  20. There's a WoB where someone asked if Szeth was bounded to the Oathstone (master) with magic/force or just with his honor, and Brandon responded with RAFO. So it's possible that the Oathstone is causing Szeth to be controlled by some force within the Cosmere. I've noticed a theme throughout Brandon's Cosmere books that he likes to explore the idea of freedom of choice. In Mistborn, Ruin had the ability to talk to anyone pierced with metal, but his hold wasn't necessarily strong enough to take away freedom of choice. (There are some exceptions with characters such as Koloss.) Szeth might be a character that is being somewhat controlled by Odium, but his confrontations with Kaladin in WoR make him realize that he still has the ability to choose not to kill. I think Bradon wants the characters in his books to be tempted by external forces without necessarily being strictly controlled. The latter abdicates responsibility from those who do wrong because you could write it off as "I only did it because Odium made me do it."
  21. I was under the impression that the Oaths were broken when they turned their backs on mankind and chose to stop protecting them during the Desolations. Dalinar sees the KR put their swords down and walk away during one of his visions. Now, why they actually walked away may be different than what the religions in Roshar have to say about the Recreance. I think the exact cause of the Recreance is still a bit of a mystery, but I think their Oaths were broken during the moment they put down their weapons and abandoned mankind.
  22. I believe you're right about Ruin's mist. Think it was a different color but looked similar to Preservation's. And I remember when Sazed took both powers, he saw two mists swirling together around Vin and Ati. So I guess the presence of the mists was less about Preservation's "death" and more about the nature of the Shards themselves. And that would explain why the mists are still around since Harmony holds both Shards.
  23. The ending was a pretty good shock the first time I read that book. When I saw that Palm had left her old body behind, the possibility hit me at that moment. I spent the last few pages thinking, "oh no, please no" lol. You'll have to check out Bands of Mourning soon. I think you'll get some new perspectives on the whole ordeal after reading that book. But the ending is still pretty tough in Shadows of Self.
  24. I'm interested to see what becomes of Elhokar. He was already having a hard enough time ruling in his father's shadow, and now that Dalinar and others are becoming Radiants, that only seems to make things more difficult for him. I'm interested to see if his character grows, or if he ends up failing under the weight of feeling like an inadequate ruler.
  25. Watch it be Lopen. He'll run up walls on his hands all day long.
