Have the Heralds been Spiked?
Andy92 replied to Brightlord M. Alhstrom's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My thing is though, Ruin could only influence people who were pierced with metal. And we have a WoB that says Odium doesn't influence people in the same way Ruin does. I suppose Odium does have the ability to influence others using Hemulurgy, but since we've already heard Brandon say that Odium doesn't influence people in the same way Ruin did, I'm inclined to think Odium doesn't use Hemulurgy to gain influence over people. I'll admit I was incorrect in assuming it was something Odium was incapable of doing, but I still don't think it's the method he uses. -

Have the Heralds been Spiked?
Andy92 replied to Brightlord M. Alhstrom's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'm gonna share the same WoB Calderis used in another thread when I was talking about plot lines in the different series. Ruin was able to influence spiked individuals on Scadrial because he was involved with creating the human life there. So I'm not sure that spiking a Herald would even open them up to Odium's influence the way you're thinking. It's definitely possible there's something realmicly going on that's affecting the Heralds' sanity, and it could be involved with their abandonment of the oath pact, but I also think 4,500 years of guilt for what they've done could be as much of a cause of their insanity as anything. -
Lightbringer? I haven't gotten around to reading them personally but I've heard some good things.

(Spoilers all) Who are the parshendi gods?

Lol yeah, seems like something he'd do. "The Parshendi worshipped the Heralds, psyche out." -

The Unmade would fit the theme of the entire series. On one side you have Honor at the top, with 10 Heralds under him, and a group of Surgebinders that bond spren. On the other side you have Odium at the top, with (9 or 10?) Unmade under him, and a group of Voidbinders that bond with Odium's spren. It's all symmetrical. -
Thanks for helping clarify. I think Brandon's comments on that one show he's trying to come up with unique plots based on how Shards interact with the planet systems they're in, which is definitely good.

I believe Brandon has said that Gavilar was "on his way to becoming a Bondsmith," but I don't think he had made the actual leap to bonding one of the 3 "superspren" before his death. I do think there's some merit to your idea of Gavilar being influenced in some way, but at the same time (Mistborn spoilers):

New spinoff of The Angry Beavers could be in play here.

Kaladin: the original book soundtrack from The Black Piper
Andy92 replied to Argent's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Pretty sure it's just a soundtrack inspired by the album. -
This thought did cross my mind after reading this new prologue. It seems really, really convenient that a trained assassin with the powers of Surgebinding just "happened" to be there that night. I was surprised to learn that the Parshendi hired Szeth the same day as the feast. I always assumed they plotted that out for a long time. This prologue PoV makes the whole thing look really rushed - suspiciously rushed.

Thanks! I've seen some others using it here too. There are some other ones online for the different KR orders as well. I can probably answer a few of your other questions too. I'm not sure about the exact numbers, but we do know that Windrunners have more squires than the other orders. Bridge 4 will comprise Kaladin's squires. Some orders don't have any squires at all. We'll probably receive more insight on this one in Oathbringer when Kaladin will be training with his squires (presumably). From Brandon: (These answers tend to make me think she's on Roshar...because we aren't getting a Warbreaker sequel "very soon.") There will be 2 more graphic novels released in the future making a 3 part set of graphic novels that tells a single story. I'm not sure what Brandon has planned for the world of Taldain after the graphic novel trilogy is finished.

It'll take place before. Dragonsteel is basically the prequel to the events of the entire Cosmere. He won't actually write it until after Stormlight 10 though, if that's what you're asking.

@Nicrosil I kind of doubt Gavilar set this up knowing the Parshendi would kill him. He sold everything really well if that was the case, because he tells Szeth "the Parshendi, but that doesn't make any sense" right before his death. He seemed genuinely confused as to why the Parshendi would want to assassinate him.

What are you looking forward to in Oathbringer?
Andy92 replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's pretty simple for me. I'm looking forward to getting to read a good new story, because even though theorizing and digging into the books is fun, it's not as fun as reading a new Sanderson book for the first time and experiencing the raw emotion in it. -
I had the same thought when I was reading it. I always kinda dreaded a future book that focused on Eshonai because the discussion of the forms/ways Parshendi communicate through rhythm just wasn't that fun to read about. But it did seem more fluid in this prologue. Part of it might be because now that Brandon established how the Parshendi communicate in WoR, he doesn't have to use as many words to explain what's going on this time around. Whatever it exactly is, I noticed the same thing.

That preview song basically turned The Way of Kings into The Legend of Zelda. I have no qualms about this. -
Gencon Hemalurgy WoB (Random realmatic discussion)
Andy92 replied to Calderis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So if you managed to gain the power of Surgebinding via Hemulurgy, could you use the Surges you stole without living up to the oaths? Would it be like overriding the system, or could you still lose the power to Surgebind if you "regressed" in keeping oaths? Because if you gained the ability to Surgebind with Hemulurgy, there wouldn't be an oath involved with the person gaining the powers...so it seems like a big hack of the system to me.- 143 replies

Difference between Tor and Orion / Oathbringer lenght
Andy92 replied to IAmAlsoAWe's topic in Stormlight Archive
The paperback won't come out a month before the hardback. Paperbacks generally come out a year or so later. And the hardback won't have 944 pages. -
A friend of mine is reading The Way of Kings for the first time, and a couple days ago she told me "there's more to this Wit character than they're letting on." So while Hoid's cameos in books like Mistborn and Warbreaker tend to get a bit overblown, his Wit character is playing a more important role that even casual fans can pick up on. He becomes especially intriguing in the Epilogues of both books. The events he's involved with show a lot more about him than "just another cameo."

I would like to believe that he is now a dragon. Let the real Last Desolation commence.

Ah I forgot about the difference between the ancient and modern fabrials. The fabrial soulcasting is probably one of my bigger gray areas of Roshar magics. I was looking up stuff on them today and started getting curious about how the whole spren trapping thing really worked.
