I've got a "theory theory" theory. It could be bunnies.
-
Oh that is Evil. The first thing I read this morning after getting awakened up.
-
Yep good points, I was stream-of-consciousnessing without giving proper consideration This all does make me wonder more about the Hoid-Elantris thing though, I've probably just missed previous discussions on it.
-
Indeed. The only WoB I've found on it is this. I'm not sure by any means the theory is right but I haven't seen a better one and @Jondesu's explanation combined with that WoB is why I thought it's worth considering. As Brandon said Hoid simply was not as Cosmere-aware at the time and probably did not know the unusual nature of the Dor then. But as always I'm keen to be shown why it's wrong. And do we know Hoid had to get there through the Cognitive? Maybe he can Elsecall (or comparable mechanism from a different system)?

Thanks @ccstat that takes what I suspected from interpreting the transcript and context only and gives it more weight, makes me more confident that's what he meant and it certainly makes some sense from what we know of Harmonium. I really liked the competing sub-atomic particle version but this...feels more right. I won't make an attempt at a string theory theory, that's way beyond my pay grade

An Aussie knows when to breathe out. But you do get Stayan enough through DB. Easily the the most Australian thing after the 12th Man.

Nightblood is going to be the End
Extesian replied to Hemalurgic Headshot's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We have an iffy WoB on this So I'd say he can't, but sounds like maybe he can do some damage? I think Nightblood can do more than individual damage. The painting Lightsong looks at in Warbreaker shows a woman holding him with waves of destroyed soldiers surrounding her. Nothing definitive but I think with full investiture he can do a lot more than one on one damage. Either way this topic made me laugh so I'm happy.- 15 replies

Elantris was definitely before Mistborn, i have in mind it's a few hundred years before. Your question on the spiritual realm connection with his failure to become Elantrian is interesting though. I have no answer but I like that, he may not have realized the Dor is from the cognitive realm.

In terms of a stable orbit for Rosharan moons we have this brand new WoB So it sounds like the Shards there were/are not keeping the moons stable, it's just a long time til the effects will kick in. I've briefly wondered if there's a connection between Shards in residence and the existence of moons themselves but that's for another thread. But yeah I'm very interested in active Shardic influences on systems. It would just seem quite inefficient if there isn't a specific purpose. Taldain feels significant, with there being two distinct and unchanging sides of the world and accompanying peoples, two distinct stars influencing the system in completely different ways. Maybe I'll try a reread of White Sand prose with it in mind.

I like this thinking but there is something from the Oathbringer prologue (not completely finalized) that Brandon recently read. Spoiler... Certainly sounds from that like fabrials use live spren. Though doesn't rule out soulcasters specifically using dead ones.

I'd thought about this during the previous discussions on Aimian sightings but it seemed unlikely. Dysian Aimian cremlings are controlled by the Dysian (or hive mind, however you define it). Why would they let themselves be tortured by a child? But I do wonder if he has some connection to the cognitive realm or similar that makes him paranoid about cremlings because he's been watched, and he takes it out on all cremlings (which is the Rosharan term for any kind of small bug/creepy thing). So other cremlings are suffering collective retribution for his justified paranoia about whether cremlings are watching him. I suspect he was just a sick kid with a sadism problem though.

Ninety plus nine. The number of Desolations. Hopefully it'll be 4500 years until I get another upvote, I'm not sure I'm ready for the True Desolation yet

Sweet. My minimal amateur knowledge of physics and tidal locking and and so on made me strongly suspect such an orbit isn't really possible without some external force, hence my partly-formed theory, but I love that on here there's so many actual scienticians that I can hear physics applied to fantasy. This is a good explanation. I still wonder why Autonomy would have chosen such a strange place but I figure it's because it's either naturally hard to get to, giving the planet it's own autonomy from others, or it gives each side of the planet autonomy from the other. Or both. And I still think it's the 'other' planet where humanity did not predate the arrival of the Shard.
-
Thanks to everyone who did the transcripts and the questions! There's been some beauties this round. And as for the new Sunday ones oooh I like these three. Time to get my amateur science on. I'm assuming the moons represent the three Shards, I'm sure that's been proposed before and the Shin call the time between the first two moons the "hateful hour ... for it was one of the only times when the gods did not watch men." But what I'm really interested in is the very specific orbit they're in. Perhaps the times they're closer to the planet make for different shardic influences or something about the parts the orbits cross each other or the times the planets become close to each other are important. And I'm pretty interested in the certain relationships that the non-pushable/pullable metalloids have for allomancy.

Because that makes one person mistborn but if you alloy it you can make multiple mistings. He may not need all the powers but has plans to make other critical people mistings. Or maybe he wants to use some of it in feruchemy or even hemalurgy. Btw I don't think that's the case, but there are reasons he'd want to ration it very carefully. Edit - @The One Who Connects that's the second time in this thread we've posted very similar responses at almost exactly the same time
-
There's quite a good discussion here about it. I'm interested in the idea that he's using small amounts at a time to make lerasium alloys which make you a misting of the element you alloy it with. We've seen him use allomancy but it doesn't mean he's mistborn.

Something went badly wrong with my formatting in a post i put up and I couldn't fix it. I've hidden that post and amended this one. The bit in bold is talking about ye WoB below. Sorry for breaking the Internets :'(
-
I don't think he will, I think the bond is forming but will break because he's too erratic and probably not honest enough with himself for the Cryptics to hold it. But it increases the chances of someone else. And I'm sure you'll get your someone else on the cover sometime. Hopefully while he's still alive...
-
Certainly can't rule out some of what you've suggested but we do know he's an allomancer now, from two recent WoBs
-
I like this one. Not groundbreaking (and I certainly should have realized the spiritual connection side). But says a bit about the likelihood of secondary characters becoming Radiant, Elhokar, Adolin etc.

Radiants Grouping Together (contains very minor Edgedancer spoiler)
Extesian replied to MoS03's topic in Stormlight Archive
We now have a WoB on this from the latest signing! It's because a) spren watch areas with other spren and spiritual connection between an existing surgebinder and his/her friends/family. So someone adopted has the same likelihood as blood relations- 16 replies

He will be writing a spin-off series, it's the next project he's doing after Oathbringer this year It will be set in the same universe as the Reckoners series so should be fun! Different characters though. He may do a book about Mizzy a while into the future.

Yeah having done a search of WoK it looks like the first time he was called that after Amaram's army was by Sigzil, with no other mentions between. Of course the name could have followed him but it seems unlikely. After that it's Hoid calling him that. I think the most likely thing is that Sigzil knew either from tracking/investigating him, or through Hoid doing the same thing. Sigzil was, after all, Hoid's apprentice. Of course Stormblessed seems like a logical thing to call a lucky person in Roshar. It may be coincidence. But I suspect it's Sigzil/Hoid using the term because it was used earlier when Kaladin rocked and they're trying to get him..rocking again.

I gather from this that the Heralds did not require Stormlight to fuel their powers, they drew in Honor's power directly, and the reason Szeth required Stormlight was because Honor is splintered and that direct access no longer is available. I think also that while Nale has his Honorblade he also would require Stormlight to use it now, hence this WoB.

I've wondered if Elhokar's ability, either to see into the Cognitive Realm, or just being on the path to a Nahel bond, has to do with Dalinar's visit to the Nightwatcher. Dalinar's big thing after Gavilar's death was protecting Elhokar. What if his boon was that Elhokar be given the means to protect himself and the boon given was a Nahel bond, but because Elhokar doesn't have his act together yet the spren (and I agree, they're probably cryptics) haven't been able to bond properly because he doesn't meet their requirements yet, like Shallan losing Pattern for so long. Edit - a new relevant WoB on this Not highly relevant but at least it confirms that there's nothing surprising about Elhokar, in the middle of so much spren action and with strong spiritual connections to surgebinders, having spren check him out.
