  1. Excellent answer. I was hoping you may know the Name of the Wind, but a lesson in etymology from a chaos theoretician will do quite nicely
  2. Are you a magician of the air? Or a magician of planes?
  3. Peter confirmed Mraize is from Thaylenah
  4. So I’ll have a go at this, I’m inclined to agree that rather than being pairings, there are groupings of four. I’m basing this loosely on the categories of the 16 metals, and all this is pure speculation, and despite me not thinking its pairings I’ve gone ahead and done opposites. It’s really just to clarify my thoughts. Hopefully it will prompt others to do a more useful analysis and I expect my ‘new’ shards to be picked apart. As should my categorization. But it may be a different way of looking at this and I’d love to hear views. Cognitive Honor – the obligation to do what you say you will do, to be consistent Variability – to be inconsistent, to change from moment to moment Enlightenment – to seek knowledge and understanding Belief – to have unchanging views Spiritual/emotional Devotion – to give up yourself for others Odium – to hate Purity – to be of one kind Amalgamation – to be of many kinds Physical Endowment – to give something to others Appropriation? – to take something from others Autonomy – to have control of yourself Dominion – to have control of others Temporal Cultivation – to work on something other than yourself Ambition – to work on yourself Preservation – to never change, inertia Ruin – to break things down, entropy edit: i hope the formatting is ok. It looks like chaos on my phone. And of course these are not all my ideas, especially enlightenment. But i feel categorizing may help figure out what could be missing.
  5. I'd love to see that WoB if you can find it. The only one I could find is below which doesn't mention a limit of 4 but certainly implies there is a limit.
  6. I like where this is going. I'll keep thinking on it but for now: I agree we have no confirmation that all Shards are basically paired but i also think it's a natural and sensible way to think through it. My instinct is that Honor is paired with Betrayal or Unreliability or something better worded than that. And that Justice is different to Honor. Honor is about binding and consistency. Justice is about, for want of a better word, Karma. I think Justice goes with Mercy, Honor with Betrayal, and they seem like natural attributes. I like Purity and perhaps it could match with something like Amalgamation or Combination (I'm not using words good but something showing that purity can be a useful trait but so can hybridisation basically). Some other spitballing. Consistency. Variability. Enlightenment. Tradition/conservatism/Belief.
  7. Your title changes as you get reputation points (upvotes). You can upvote or downvote people's posts and the more upvotes you get the more youtitle increases. There's a cool post here that shows what titles you get at certain reputation levels
  8. I've done the same things many times, no offense taken
  9. Yeah this was my take on it (I think @Blightsong didn't notice me post the same WoB but doesn't matter ). Though I hadn't thought of Rosharan covering other Rosharan system worlds, was just thinking of the immigration issue because he emphasises the difference with native. Like someone who's been in Australia for 20 years we'd call Australian though may ask where they're from originally. But I do like the idea of Braize being both the Halls and Damnation. I'll have to think about that more!
  10. My brain just melted and all that's left is a bubbling pool of dopamine. It's a spectacular idea, it looks divine and it's a wonderful tribute. I love it.
  11. I think the amount of investiture is still relevant, for example a savant could power nightblood at a higher level than a normal misting because they are capable of drawing more investiture from Preservation. I think Brandon is just saying different metals draw the same amount of investiture it's just the effect they have (senses, steelpush, atium effects etc) don't make a difference. We may feel something 'powerful' like atium should but it probably uses the same amount of investiture just with a much more useful effect. To use the food example, you may enjoy a delicious meal more than a loaf of bread but they still provide the same amount of energy. Yo Nightblood all investiture is food so whether it tastes better, whether it has a cooler effect, is irrelevant. It's all just food to him. The effect of channeling investiture doesn't matter. Only the amount of investiture does.
  12. Welcome to the Shard! Always great to have new people to discuss ideas with. And don't worry there is also plenty of non-cookie related discussion on here
  13. I just saw an interesting WoB on the recent AMA (which he's still answering, amazingly) that confirms Nightblood is not affected by the type of metal being burned by an allomancer powering it. (And my apologies if this is stealing the Thunder of a Sharder, I didn't recognize the username). We may already know or at least suspect this but I found it interesting that the metal makes no difference, that even an atium misting would be no more efficient at powering Nightblood than someone who can burn extremely common, cheap metals. I'm not sure how it relates to other forms of investiture as I don't think we know how they compare to each other. But certainly says any misting of a widely available metal could be pretty scary with Nightblood and a lot of that metal.
  14. Here's a useful recent WoB on the matter So it's possible the lie he wanted to correct was simply that the Sovereign was TLR and he did it just to spite Kelsier. But I'm not sure Hoid is that spiteful, I suspect it was that it's important for the future of Scadrial/the wider Cosmere that play-makers are aware of it.
  15. Hmm now I'm a forescout I'd better finish off my Tony Stark-style Silver armor suit.
  16. It may only be indirectly related to how they were chosen but the Heralds are all from the same place and that place may not be Roshar. As they gave up their duties around 5500 years before Stormlight Archive that probably rules out a number of places by timeframe alone. They also probably have their own innate powers apart from Honorblade-granted surgebinding. Doesn't give a lot but let's you speculate on why they may have been chosen, at least as a demographic if not as individuals.
  17. With Vasher, Shashara got tech She created some terrible mech But with Vasher's honor He went all John Connor And now he's a guilt-ridden wreck
  18. Good to see. I think it also implicitly confirms that Hoid's ramble about shuffling the letters of words around did not mean Adonalsium is an intentional anagram for anything meaningful as -ium is a suffix indicating a metal so really just Adonalsium is a god of metal.
  19. I highly recommend Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe if you want something really involved. It's a strange and beautiful series, the memoirs of a wandering Torturer's apprentice with an eidetic memory but serious flaws, where the story itself is interesting but the hidden hints and layers of story are almost unrivalled. It is written as fantasy but is actually scifi (I won't say more than that coz spoilers). It has the most remarkably tight prose I've ever read and is one of those very rare books where you could read all 4 (or 5 if you count the reluctant sequel) in a month, but once you realize how much you missed the reread can take 6 times as long. It's not my favorite genre story ever but it's probably the most unique. You end up treating it like an actual long lost record of a list civilisation in the form of an autobiography, where the 'author' is just talking about his life in a matter of fact way but you wade through every word trying to uncover what is factual that he skims over.
  20. Interesting idea. To me they're two separate people just with the same DNA so they should both have a Breath. What does interest me is identity. Do they have an identical identity? If one awakens an object, could the other take that Breath from it?
  21. I really love this. It's my first cover photo so kudos!
  22. I like this question. I haven't seen a definitive answer but As identical twins start with identical normal DNA I'm inclined to think yes, but that WoB casts a bit of doubt on it. But if course spiritual DNA can be overwritten and changed so the question would be what things have intervened since birth. I don't know if things as simple as connections changing would do it but certainly any means that directly rewrite sDNA would change them But as for whether they would have the same allomantic or feruchemical powers, I would guess so (subject to the threshold for snapping).
  23. For sure, I think that issue's been settled and I know the question was more general. But the good thing about the whole anti- Adonalsium idea is that it did draw out that WoB, which I like. I prefer everything magical being originally of Adonalsium, I think further sources would complicate things unnecessarily
  24. We have this. I think the distinction is yes they're Splinters (that's confirmed) but with the Stormfather (as was noted) also being a pre-existing Spren that was combined with Tanavast's cognitive shadow. The 'similar' level just makes me question whether they're quite up there.
  25. This is a recent WoB that came from discussions about a theoretical anti-Adonalsium force. So I don't think so at this stage. The force he's referred to in the past is more along the lines of groups of people.
