    Yeah, I still trust Mippo.

    I'll go with Striker as well

    Oh. Huh. I didn't expect that. This should be interesting. I'll be sad to go if that's what the Gods of Luck and Chance decree, but I guess I can't be too sad as I'm already a Hero. I really think you're making the wrong choice here, Conure. Unless you're the one with the gun and you're just messing with the rest of us. :P

    True, I was

    That's why I felt stupid

    Y'all can vote me out but I don't have the gun

    Plus that would be an absolutely stupid thing to do if I had shot someone. If I did have it then I would've said I was going to search for items.

    Like Striker did.

    I’ve literally searched for items/used items the entire game so far.

    If I have more Action slots than abilities I can perform the same ability multiple times per Cycle, right?

    Yes, that is correct.

    I'm really sorry but I'm not sure I'll have the time for this game on closer inspection (stuff came up); could I swap to pinch-hitter for now?

    Yeah that's fine! No worries

    Absolutely can pinch hit, might play if I feel up to it or if you need more people.

    Right now we're only at 9 players, so no Human Refugee yet. If it's getting close to the start of the game and we're at 13, it'd be awesome to have you switch to playing since we already have three other pinch hitters. But for now I will list you as a pinch hitter. :)

  4. Day Zero

    “Administrator. A human has escaped containment.”

    The tall dione turned, uncharacteristically quick. Their office appeared empty, but they could smell iron and rotting fruit. They opened their mouth, but paused, their long fingers twitching. “When and how?” Administrator Petra of The Diplomacy rarely wasted time with irrelevant questions. This was something Aire appreciated about them.

    “0315 hours.” The rotting fruit smell grew stronger to communicate Aire’s distress. “The human feigned illness.” The keepers had been concerned as the human had not eaten its evening meal, and at 0310 the human began making pained sounds and rolling around when it should have been sleeping. “Our overzealous Keeper Murray went into its enclosure with another vet to administer aid. The human then bit him, outmaneuvered the vet, and somehow evaded the enclosure lockdown.”

    The Administrator hissed sharply, baring teeth.

    “The Keeper is alive,” Aire clarified. “They are being checked for any infectious diseases the human might have been carrying.”

    “This is the last thing we need.” The Administrator gestured at the reports still littering their desk. Thefts. Graffiti. Stockpiles of munitions ‘disappearing’. The pattern arising from those reports was a familiar one to Aire. The Diplomacy was the newest Superiority outpost in this sector to several planets, poised to evaluate species intelligence and even offer secondary citizenship to new peoples. But initial promises of welcome and co-operation had turned into suspicion and frustration, and communications had quickly broken down.

    The worst of it was that Aire’s spies had reported rumblings of dissent from even citizens of the Superiority stationed here. The species here would not join the Superiority, and their poisonous ideas had infected their own. The Administrator knew this. They had been struggling to find a way to report this for months now.

    “The station is already on a knife’s edge,” the Administrator said. “We’ve established early curfews. Doubled the patrols. The citizens are afraid and restless. An escaped human would be…”

    “Panic. Chaos. The flame to the primed starship fuel.” Aire smelled of iron once more.

    “… That is… appropriate. Sometimes I forget where your covert operations took you, Aire.”

    “If I may, Administrator. This may be the excuse you need for full martial law.”

    The Administrator hissed again. “No, no. Aggression is the last resort of the Superiority. We are here to prove we can be better, that we are of primary intelligence! That is the entire reason we even permitted the construction of a human enclosure!” The Administrator paced the length of their office. “How many know?”

    “The keepers, the guards on shift, myself, and you. I have the situation locked down for now, but news will leak. That is already too many people.”

    “Double the patrols once more. I’m authorizing a higher setting to the weaponry. Tactical armor. Our goal is to recapture the human and ensure the citizenry stay safe.”

    “And if the people happen to witness a show of force, that’s an added benefit?”

    A sigh. “Something like that.” The Administrator stared out the window, folding their arms. “I don’t like this, Aire. I don’t think this is the Dissidents’ doing, but I worry this falls into their plans. Something about this…”

    “Smells off?”

    “I wouldn’t be so crude, but yes.”

    "As you will, Administrator. But I would advise you start making plans for when the news does leak. Some public statement. It’s only a matter of time.”

    “Don’t tell me how to do my job, Aire.” The Administrator waved their hand, dismissing her. They sat down at their desk, and began to rub their temples.

    ~~~
    The figment drifted out the office, into the vents, through the heating system, into the open air.
    Through the busy streets, clocking every worried glance, every furtive movement. Varvax and Tenasi guards stomping through the roads. Children watching from behind their parents. A team of Kitsen trying to paint over anti-Superiority graffiti.
    Scanning, observing. The signs of dissidence were subtle. Worry and anxiety were everywhere. She tried to look for signs of paranoia, of whispers and gatherings. Some folk smelled her and looked even more paranoid. Most did not.
    Finally, she drifted into a nondescript citizen’s home, into the basement, past the barrels lining a wall, past that false wall, into a room where the Dissident leadership sat waiting, planning.
    The leader smelled her, looked up. “Ichor. What news?”
    They’d been patient so long. Waiting, watching for the right moment. The Human enclosure had been one of Aire’s plans, and the one that had finally borne fruit. The Superiority would be wholly concentrated on finding and recapturing the human. And when they ran roughshod over all those they considered ‘lesser intelligence’, the embers of resentment would flare into open rebellion.
    Aire gave off the smell of fresh earth after rain. “Opportunity, my friends. Chaos, and opportunity.”
    Welcome to QF79: Death and Murder in the Stars! Always good to be back to GMing. I’ll be posting the rules in this post down below, but I recommend looking at them here instead. The formatting always gets funky coming over from Google Docs. The impartial moderator for this game will be @Araris Valerian, and my co-GM is the lovely @Doc12. Everyone thank Doc now (and preemptively) for the write-ups as he’s doing all of those.
    If you wish to play, just post in this thread and I will add you to the player list! If you would rather spectate, just let me know and I'll make sure to send you the spec doc when the game starts. If you want to sign up as a pinch hitter, you can also do that here in the thread. The game will start as soon as I can send out all the GM PMs and get the thread posted. Rollover will usually take about 30-45 minutes after each turn ends.
    As a heads up, the Human Refugee will only be in the game if the player count is 14 or higher.
    Rules:
    Spoiler
    Basics
    • Each Cycle is 24 hours long. During each Cycle, there will be a removal. The player with the most votes at the end of the Cycle will be removed. Ties will be decided randomly between the tied players.
    • Alignment and Cytonic abilities will be revealed upon death.
    • Players can have 0-3 Cytonic abilities.
    • If a player has access to at least one ability/factional kill, they will have a random number of action slots between 1-3. This number will not be related to the number of abilities they have access to.
    • PMs can only be opened by Cytonic Communication. All PMs will be opened by myself or Doc12.
    • Kills will not be differentiated in the writeups between Refugee attacks and Dissident attacks.
    • Kills are not Cytonic attacks and are therefore immune to Inhibition.
    Factions
    • Superiority Forces: Your goal is to find and remove all of the Dissidents. You win if there is at least one member of the Superiority Forces alive and all of the Dissidents are dead.
    • Dissidents: Your goal is to overthrow the Superiority and kill all of the Forces in the compound. You win when you outnumber all the other players, or if the game has come down to a 1v1. Any Dissident may submit the faction kill, at the cost of one of their actions. In addition, you will have a doc to discuss your plans in.
    • Human Refugee: You have managed to escape your masters and disguise yourself as another species. Everyone is out to get you, even the Dissidents, if you get in their way. Your goal is to survive until the end of the game. You have access to a kill each night. There are no consequences to your first kill of the game. However, each subsequent kill has a chance of you getting caught and revealed to the people of the Superiority. After that, it’s up to them to decide what to do with you. This chance starts at 25% for your second kill and increases by 25% each time you use your kill thereafter.
    Cytonic Abilities
    • Mindblades: You can use your mindblades to injure a player. While a player is injured, they cannot take any actions or vote in the thread for the next Cycle, though they may still talk in the thread.
    • Concussion Bolts: You can use your concussion bolts to stun another player, preventing them from voting for the next Cycle. The target player is made aware that their vote will not count for that Cycle.
    • Inhibition: You can inhibit the use of any Cytonic abilities on yourself and a target of your choice. You can choose whether to also inhibit your target’s Cytonic abilities or to not inhibit them.
    • Cytonic Communication: You can use your Cytonic communication to open up a PM between any two players. This PM does not have to include yourself. You will submit this request in the GM PM, and the GM/co-GM will open the PM as soon as possible during that Cycle.
    • Non-Cytonic Communication: You can use your extremely rare ability to communicate with non-Cytonics to leave an anonymous message in the next Cycle’s writeup.
    • Interception: You can use your Cytonic abilities to spy on a player and learn about their Cytonic communications. You will only be informed of one player they are in communication with. If the target player is a Dissident, one of their teammates could be the player you are informed of.
    • Hyperjumps: If you are about to be removed, you will automatically hyperjump to safety. However, you can only survive the removal once, as next time they will know to inhibit your Cytonics.
    • Illusions: You can use your Cytonics to dig into someone’s mind and present an illusion over what they see. You can redirect one of their actions (at random) to a player of your choice. A redirected player will learn where their action was redirected to. If two or more illusions target the same player, the target player will get confused by the conflicting information and take no action.
    • Cytonic Sensing: You can use your Cytonic sense to receive the knowledge of 2-3 Cytonic actions done by any player that turn. You will be told who did the action and who they targeted, if anyone. If there were multiple targets (i.e. for Illusions or Cytonic Communications), you will receive only one target.
    Order of Actions
    1. Hyperjump
    2. Inhibition/Sensing (Inhibitions targeting Sensing will block Sensing; otherwise all happen at the same time)
    3. Illusions
    4. Kills
    5. Blades/Bolts/Interception/Non-Cyto Comms
      Note: Cytonic Comms happen during the course of the Cycle and cannot be inhibited, so are therefore not part of the OoA
    Rule Clarifications:
    Spoiler
    Rule Clarifications
    • If a player has multiple actions available to them, they can use the same ability multiple times (such as multiple Sense actions or multiple Illusion actions).
    • Inhibitions targeting Sensing will block Sensing; otherwise all happen at the same time. In addition Sensing can catch Inhibition, as long as the Sensing is not blocked.
    • Each use of Interception will return a unique result for that Cycle.
      • Example 1: During Cycle 3, Striker uses two actions of Interception on Doc, who has PMs with Alvron, Kas, and Hael. Striker will receive unique information on two of those three PM contacts. Let’s say for Cycle 3 he randomly learns that Doc has PMs with Kas and Hael.
      • Example 2: During C4, Striker uses two actions of Interceptions on Doc, who now has PMs with Alvron, Kasimir, Haelbarde, and Mint11. Striker will receive unique information on two of those four PM contacts. This time, he could learn that Doc has PMs with Kas and Mint11. Each time is random, based on which PMs have been made up to the given Cycle.
    • Made a change to Cytonic Sensing for clarification: added the sentence “If there were multiple targets (i.e. for Illusions or Cytonic Communications), you will receive only one target” to the ability’s rules.
    • Inhibition cannot block Hyperjumps. The line about inhibiting you next time is simply for flavor to explain why you can only use the ability once per game.
    • Actions that are blocked by Inhibition can still be caught by Sensing. They will appear as “[Player] took an action that was Inhibited.”
    • Interception can be used on the same player multiple times in the same Cycle if the player with the Interception ability has more than one action.
      • Similarly, if a player has multiple actions and uses them on Sensing, that would return 2(X) - 3(X) actions from other players where X is the number of actions the player uses on Sensing.
    • Inhibition examples:
      • Kasimir Inhibits himself and Striker, choosing to let Striker do his own action (in this case an Illusion). Separately, Doc tries to use Concussion Bolts on both Striker and Kasimir. Those do not work, and Striker's Illusion still works.
      • Kasimir Inhibits himself, this time choosing to block Striker’s action (still an Illusion). Doc still tries to use Concussion Bolts on both players, and neither works. Striker’s Illusion also does not work.
    • Further Inhibition clarification: if an Inhibitor is targeted by another Inhibitor, their Inhibition action still goes through while their other Cytonic actions fail. And they are still immune to other non-Inhibition actions from other players. Some examples:
      • Doc has two abilities: Inhibition and Mindblades. Striker also has two abilities: Inhibition and Concussion Bolts. Doc uses Inhibition with a target of Striker, choosing to cancel Striker’s actions, and also uses a Mindblade on Kasimir. Striker uses Inhibition with a target of Doc, choosing to cancel Doc’s actions, and also uses a Concussion Bolt on Kas. Separately, Araris Valerian uses an Illusion on Striker. In this instance, both of the attacks on Kas are canceled, and Araris Valerian’s attack on Striker fails as well.
      • Brightness Radiant has two abilities: Inhibition and Mindblades. Alvron also has two abilities: Inhibition and Concussion Bolts. Brightness Radiant uses Inhibition with a target of Haelbarde, choosing to cancel Haelbarde’s actions, and also uses a Mindblade on Ashbringer. Alvron uses Inhibition with a target of Brightness Radiant, choosing to cancel her actions, and also uses a Concussion Bolt on Ashbringer. Separately, Matrim’s Dice uses Interception on Ashbringer. In this scenario, Haelbarde is only Concussed, and both BR’s Mindblade on Ashbringer and Matrim’s Dice’s Interception on Ashbringer fail.
    No, not Miss "I'm flattered you think I have the gun" Fallen? 😂
    Striker, extremely impressed that you happened to use your fabrial on the killer.
    If true, extremely funny that Miss Fallen called you out for lying about using your action on her. I'd have just kept quiet.
    Miss Fallen, any response?
    I am also extremely impressed with myself there. And to think I almost used it on you instead. :P
  6. 5 minutes ago, ___ said:
    Wait but I also searched for items
    I also didn't get a follow notif, wasn't someone gonna follow me?
    Miss Fallen said last night they were gonna follow you. But then apparently searched for items instead, according to my fabrial. Not sure what happened there, but we at least know that Fallen didn’t shoot the gun.
  7. So there’s little chance of Verdance having lied about not having the gun and then choosing to die with it right? Options here are either that someone shot them or that someone redirected a gunshot from someone else. Actually it’s probably simpler to just assume someone directly shot Verdance.
    I know Miss Fallen didn’t have the gun. She was searching for items. I am 60% sure Doc was being honest with me about not having the gun. Either that or he chose not to reveal to me that he has the gun because he knows I’ll try to get him exed for a chance at the gun. :P
    That leaves me with the choice of Mippo, Conure, or Qianwellian. I think I’m gonna vote for Mippo/___. I think Conure or Qian would’ve gotten more active last night if they’d had the gun. Or at least I hope they would have. So that leaves me with just Mippo.
  8. 14 hours ago, ___ said:
    Why wouldn't I have had it
    Just because you vote someone doesn't mean you'd get it
    Only if they're voted out as far as I know
    Oh that was absolutely misunderstanding the rules. My bad.
    That means you're still on my radar. Which is still net zero information gain for me lmao
  9. Okay, Mippo didn’t have the gun, so I don’t have it. That doesn’t mean Mippo can’t have it now. It one of their Akimiko voters had the gun, then it would’ve just been tossed around randomly again. And Mippo could’ve ended up with it anyway.
    So net zero information gain for me there.
  10. I see no reason why Akimiko couldn’t have the gun. Star died with it last night, so no one voted for her, which means any of us could have the gun right now.
    The only thing I can think of here is Akimiko misunderstanding the Hero rules and thinking they can’t have the gun if they’re the Hero. But have they even voted on anyone in the past? I can’t remember.
  11. I mean, the guessing is the same as any other guess at the start of a game: completely random. Unless someone wants to come out and claim it. Or unless someone notices a drastic change in another player’s behavior.
    But considering no one is voting on anyone yet, I’m gonna throw a vote on Miss Fallen as I think they usually would have responded by now and haven’t yet for some reason.
  12. Huh. Looks like my suspicions from earlier in the game were prophetic. Thanks for the valiant sacrifice Star. Hopefully future gun holders don't feel the need to continue this trend we've got going on of sacrificing themselves over and over again. :P
    Also it would be really funny if Star just shot someone else anyway.
