If Maya revives, will she be the same?
StrikerEZ replied to Invocation's topic in Stormlight Archive
Personally, I don’t know why so many people don’t like the idea of Adolin reviving and bonding Maya. It makes perfect sense to me, and it seems like the most likely thing that will happen with them, given the evidence in the books. Everyone quotes that WoB about it requiring the original Radiant, but 1) it’s really old (it’s from 2015 ), 2) he’s also said it’s possible in other ways, and 3) evidence in books always supersedes evidence in WoBs, and there is a lot more evidence for Adolin reviving Maya than against. -
I mean, that’s true. But my statement is also true. There are only 9 types of Fused (unless there are actually 10, and Moash just didn’t see the last type).

Who is your favorite radiant
StrikerEZ replied to Rashek of Bridge Four's topic in Stormlight Archive
@galendo You see, I just don’t agree at all that Eshonai would’ve even got to experience any of those scenes instead of Venli if she had lived. Ulim knew that Eshonai was rebelling. I think it’s highly likely that, if she’d been found alive, she either would’ve been killed or just forced to accept a Fused. And if Timbre did repel the Fused from taking Eshonai, I think Odium would’ve just had one of the Fused kill her at that point. If the Fused were so willing to put so much effort into finding a single Cryptic in Kholinar to prevent a Radiant, I doubt Odium would let Eshonai, who he had to know was already resisting him, live as a Radiant. With Venli, Odium wouldn’t even believe at that point that she could/would turn at the point where Eshonai’s corpse was found since she literally did everything in her power to bring about the Everstorm. And Odium isn’t all-knowing; he probably knew that Eshonai was resisting him, but I doubt he could tell that there was a budding Radiant bond at that point. Eshonai had only just recently begun to attract Timbre, and hadn’t even sworn the First Ideal. So I don’t think he knew that Timbre was gonna end up bonding Venli because he didn’t even know that Timbre had transitioned into the Physical Realm in order to bond Eshonai and would therefore be more able to bond Venli. Plus, I’m sure Odium doesn’t see Venli as being able to attract any Radiant spren, so isn’t worried about that. If none of that convinces you, then you have every right to believe that Eshonai would’ve been better fitted for Venli’s role in the story. Personally, I think Eshonai would’ve fallen too easily into being the Radiant and that story would’ve been far more boring. And Brandon did do a general outline of the entire series before he started writing it. While he’s been willing to change minor things, such as the importance of Adolin, I doubt he’d completely swap two characters the book before. -
@animalia In the Ars Arcanum at the end of any SA book, Kriss talks about how there are ten orders of voidbinding, just like there are ten orders of surgebinding. What you’re thinking of is how there are only nine types of fused. Even then, we don’t know which surge isn’t represented in the Fused.

The unmade, the sibling, and pre-shard spren
StrikerEZ replied to WhiteEmporer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it’s most likely a combination of H&C. Why would a spren that is basically just a big Splinter of Odium bond a Radiant? -
Who is your favorite radiant
StrikerEZ replied to Rashek of Bridge Four's topic in Stormlight Archive
In the WoB below (spoilered for length), Brandon talks about how he’d basically always planned, ever since the outlining process (I‘m assuming the outlining for the entire series), that Venli would survive instead of Eshonai. Personally, I’m glad Eshonai died. Venli’s arc of having to work to become Radiant just wouldn’t work with Eshonai, because she was basically perfect for the order. It’ll be so much more interesting to see Venli struggle with her oaths. -
Okay, thank you!

@Tsurerif What’s the order I should listen to these in? I just discovered this thread and I really want to listen to them. @hoiditthroughthegrapevine Could you send me that Dropbox link?

I didn’t like Elend all that much in the first book, he just felt like someone to be Vin’s romantic interest. He actually became interesting as he struggled to become a king in WoA, when he became a Mistborn, and especially as he struggled with almost becoming a tyrant during HoA.

I don’t think he would’ve even bothered to start saying the First Ideal if he had truly wanted to die. I think that how we saw events plan out is exactly what happened. Elhokar wanted to go save Kholinar, and he brought Kaladin and the others along to make sure they were able to fix things, probably because he was beginning to realize he was a bad king. That’s probably what was getting him to reach the point where he could officially swear the First Ideal and it would actually make him a Radiant.

I discovered the Shard after researching online about The Reckoners, which, besides Rithmatist, was the only Brandon series I’d read. This was some point around the end of 2016 (dang, it’s been over two years since I joined), and one of the things that came up a lot as I was researching was this website. I clicked on a few links, and eventually decided to make an account so I could post a fanmade Epic. I then realized there was this so-called “Cosmere” thing, and I was really confused. So, I made an introduction post and asked in what order I should read the books. Of course, I spent a couple months after that avoiding starting Mistborn because I had several other books I wanted to read and I was intimidated by its size (it was the biggest book I’ve ever read). Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop reading the series. It took me until the end of May of 2017 to finally start reading SA, and I’ve been hooked ever since. My favorite part of the Shard is definitely the community and how nice it is. The fact that we can have discussions about things without getting heated or mad at each other is amazing. @Kidpen I’m sure you can reach 3,000 in a month!

Your posts confuse me so much. I read and understood each individual word in this post, but I have no idea how they relate to each other, or what they mean all together.

You are not the only one. I hate that thread, and I wish it would die. But seriously though, that thread worries me.

Question about the Diagram, Dalinar, and Taravangian.
StrikerEZ replied to Dalakaar's topic in Stormlight Archive
@hoiditthroughthegrapevine I don’t think that the WoB you quoted disproves the theory that Lift went to the Nightwatcher and instead got changed by Cultivation. Before we got to OB, Brandon always talked as if Dalinar did in fact get affected by the Nightwatcher, so there’s precedence for Brandon hiding the truth from us until it’s revealed. @Jofwu Dalinar always thought that he had actually been affected by the Nightwatcher, but that memory was taken from his brain after he left. I have no doubt that Cultivation would do the same thing to Taravangian and Lift if she intervened in their boons and curses. The specificness and weirdness of Lift and Taravangian’s stuff just screams Cultivation to me. I’d be very disappointed if they were just normal Nightwatcher stuff. -
Question about the Diagram, Dalinar, and Taravangian.
StrikerEZ replied to Dalakaar's topic in Stormlight Archive
Calderis and Kon-Tiki already summed up my thoughts pretty well, but I definitely think that Cultivation had a hand in Taravangian’s boon/curse. She caused The Diagram to happen, and the Taravangian who wrote it did not write out the actual plan explicitly. He just laid out several false plans that would ultimately cause the real plan to happen. And he kept it secret from the dumber Taravangian’s so that they wouldn’t be able to reveal the real plan to anyone. -
This is true, but those masks are still apart of her, not separate from Shallan. If that’s what you meant, then I’m sorry for misinterpreting your statement.

Or, you know, he could not die, Ascend, or get into a relationship. -
I just read the prologue to Crossroads of Twilight the other day and wow that was one long prologue. It was like at least 12% of the entire book.

I mean, you have every right to not care about the tropes. However, I also have every right to care about the tropes, too. Anyway, all that aside, I can totally see where you’re coming from. I just disagree, but that’s okay!

They’re still immortal. They’re Cognitive Shadows. So, even if their physical form dies, they will live on in the CR. It’s only a question if, since the Oathpact is so weak, if they’d get new bodies Yeah, definitely. I’m excited for Dragonsteel though.

This is kind of a tangent, but the reason I’d much rather have Malata (or literally any other Dustbringer besides Shalash) be the flashback book for the Dustbringer book is because I like my main characters to not be immortal. Immortal characters are cool, but I don’t like being inside their heads.
