  1. This is only slightly related. Why don’t you like to read his non-Cosmere books? I just think it’s a shame that you’ll never read Skyward, because I think it’s better than at least a couple of his Cosmere books. It’s definitely better (in my humble opinion ) than Elantris, White Sand, and Well of Ascension, and I could see an argument for it being better than Warbreaker and most of the Era 2 books.
  2. It probably has something to do with the combination of their two surges, or maybe it’s just their special Resonance. Honestly, who knows? We don’t have any other examples to go by, besides Dalinar, who’s already a weird case since he’s bonded to the Stormfather.
  3. I mean, I don’t know if you were arguing against depression being a neurochemcial thing or it being a mundane neurochemical thing, but I don’t think @Quantus meant to downplay Kaladin’s depression. I think they probably just meant to say that it’s not magically enhanced or driven. I don’t think that Kaladin has to ‘overcome’ his depression. There’s no such thing as ‘overcoming’ depression. It’s a constant struggle, where some days you have more control, and other days you have very little control. Granted, I assume that, whenever the SA ends, Kaladin will be at a point where he has more control over his depression, but that doesn’t mean he won’t or can’t lose control after that point.
  4. Wow, normally I’m pretty good about spotting those, but I didn’t even notice this time.
  5. Oh oops, I forgot to post when I became a Highprince, but now I’m a Truthless. Where’s my oathstone?
  6. Yeah, that’s what I was referring to. I’m sure I’m completely wrong, but my new pet theory is that Dalinar (or someone) will unite the Honorblades, Dawnshards, and a lot of Honor’s Investiture from tons of spren and reforge Honor and Ascend.
  7. @Rushu42 Wow, what an amazing thread necro.
  8. @IGetLIFTed Here’s the WoB for context: So, not a direct confirmation, but I think it’s safe to assume that Shallan is bisexual, unless we’re told otherwise.
  9. @SwordNimiForPresident You know, I’ve never thought about it that way.... It wouldn’t surprise me if the end goal of SA was hidden in that scene in whichever book that vision first happened in.
  10. @IGetLIFTed I would like to point out that Unity is not one of the original 16 Shards. There’s nothing that says it can’t be a Shard through some combination of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium. Or maybe just some specific pieces of Honor.
  11. @Pathfinder That character’s status as a Cognitive Shadow and the Heralds’ status as Cognitive Shadows are two very different situations. I don’t think that we can accurately compare them, simply because they’re both called Cognitive Shadows. The only thing that’s been sustaining the Heralds this long has been the Investiture that’s become apart of them thanks to the Oathpact. The only way to make them “extra dead,” as that WoB says, would be to remove that. If they were just “dead,” then I could see a scenario where that knife took the entirety of Jezrien’s soul. However, as the situation stands now, I think that the knife simply stole that which made him a Herald, and the man known as Jezrien has now passed to the Beyond since he was no longer a Cognitive Shadow. Though, he might’ve been Invested enough because he was a Herald to stick around in the Cognitive Realm as a Sliver...that would be an interesting scenario.
  12. This is a really good question, and that’s what everyone has been asking since the book’s come out. We don’t really know what Odium meant when he said that Dalinar Ascended, but I don’t think he’s currently a Shard right now. As for what Unity is, I think it’s likely that Dalinar will probably combine pieces of each of the three Shards in the Rosharan system and Ascend to Unity Though I don’t think any of the other Bondsmiths bond a splintered Shard. Stormfather just has the Cognitive Shadow of Tanavast attached to him, so has at least some Connection to the remains of the Shard Honor. The Nightwatcher is a Splinter of Cultivation, but Cultivation herself has not been Splintered yet. As for the Sibling, they are (probably) not of Odium. The prevalent theory is that they are some combination of Honor and Cultivation. This is just semantics, but the name for someone who takes up a Shard is a Vessel (e.g. Ati is the Vessel of Ruin, Tanavast is the Vessel of Honor, etc.).
  13. @Gasper Can you put that post into a spoiler please? I don’t want anyone who hasn’t read that book to get spoiled.
  14. The thing with spren is that they are just pure Investiture given sapience. It’s the combination of the different levels of Honor’s Investiture and Cultivation’s Investiture that make them the different types of Radiant spren (kind of like the specific alloy compositions of the metals on Scadrial). The only way for a spren to change type would be for it to fuse with a large enough chunk of Investiture, or through direct Shardic intervention. Either way, this would completely and drastically change the spren, so they would no longer be who they were before.
  15. That’s actually a fair point. I still think that neither of them are in a good enough emotional state to really get into a relationship right now, and especially not with each other.
  16. Sel Amydlatn Crescent Dominance Expanse of the Densities Grand Indicium Hanald Iald Jokasha Monastery Madion Ways Northgrip Xaka Trustwarren Eliminated Obrodai. Hoid would probably vacation there, just to make Bavadin/Autonomy/one of her Avatars mad. Which place has the highest mortality rate?
  17. Yeah, I never really understood why there was such controversy over Battar and Pailiah. Battar is Dova, Pailiah is that unnamed ardent in the Palanaeum.
  18. You actually seem older. I remember welcoming you to the Shard when you posted in the introductions section, I think, so I know I’ve been around a lot longer.
  19. I mean, that second part of the WoB is more revealing to me. In order for Jezrien to be “extra killed,” he would need to be stripped of the Investiture sustaining him as a Cognitive Shadow, which would make it so that he would not be able to resist the pull of the Beyond once he’s in the Cognitive Realm. And if Odium and the Fused really wanted to get rid of him, I doubt they’d keep his soul around in that knife. The odds of someone being able to figure out how to bring him back are slim, but Odium seems like the type to not take chances, especially after the Void team’s failure at Thaylen City. As for the Beyond, I personally think there really isn’t anything after you get sucked into it, but that’s the amazing thing about the Cosmere. We can all have our own interpretation of stuff like the Beyond and all be right.
  20. I don’t think that Brandon ever confirmed that Jezrien’s soul was trapped, just that Jezrien is now permanently dead. I personally think that, if that blade captured anything, it was just the Investiture keeping Jezrien alive as a Cognitive Shadow. The being that was Jezrien is now good and dead, for real. He’s definitely passed on to the Beyond, so there’s no hope for him.
  21. What the storms? I could’ve sworn you were older than me. You just seem like an older poster for some reason. I can’t believe I’m almost a year older than you.
  22. Wow, this went a lot faster than I though it’d be paced. As much fun as this could be, I think I’ll have to dropout for a couple rounds.
  23. I don’t think the spren through the boulder, I think that was just the storm itself, and Dalinar assumed it was the weird spren.
  24. @MetaTerminal I’m fine with my team! I’m so excited for this. Thank you so much for putting this together!
