  1. No, Stormspren are a specific variety of voidspren. And the stormfather was always unique. We have confirmation that the Highstorm existed preshattering, which means the Stormfather must have existed preshattering as well in some form or another. Honor then arrived and Invested in the storm, changing the Stormfather and making him something of a champion. We have no information on the Nightwatcher aside from her being to Cultivation what the SF is to Honor. The Sibling is confirmed by the Stormfather to be a, well, sibling, of theirs, and that the sibling may be connected to Honor is some manner, but nothing beyond that. I like the theory that all three godspren existed before the shattering in some form, before Honor and Cultivation settled on the planet and modified some of the spren, but that's not confirmed.
  2. You could also house the ettmetal inside a aluminum box with a smaller tunnel pointed towards the gear to act as a directional control. Assuming aluminum blocks the investiture/magnetism, then only one side of the gear would be pushed on. This would also allow you to create the gear out of a stronger metal. Direction changing could occur by changing the gears attached to the main drive.
  3. Aluminum can be tough, but that would make it thicker and would block the push. But something like what you're thinking could work with other materials. Kelsier was able to push and pull against opposite ends of a pole in order to spin it super fast. So a proper gear setup could allow a steel or iron allomancer to move gears. The airship the southern scadrialians used appears to use steel to turn the propellers, so there seems to be some gear spinning going on there.
  4. If the aluminum was thin enough to push through, I don't think it would be strong enough to perform any task inside a motor. Of course, you could find another tough but non magnetic material to wrap the iron in. But to answer your original question, I imagine it would be easier to push on the side with the the metal is closer too. I'm not sure though, since there may apparently be a form of overlapping occurring in the spiritual realm. At least, that's what happens with shardplate. Even when not wearing a helmet, the shardplate envelopes the entire body in an interference field.
  5. I see three possabilites. The first is the Paalm is addressing Harmony in this instance, with the "he's just another pawn" bit. The second is that Autonomy, or one of her Avatars, is addressing Paalm and then responding to Waxillium. @robardin makes a good point about the speaker addressing Wax as Waxillium, something Paalm didnt' really do. Although the part about an indepth understanding of the bodies defenses could be explained by Paalm being a kandra, who possess immense knowledge on the working of a body. The third option is the one Calderis pointed out, Paalm is telling someone to ignore Wayne. I don't think this one is likely, as I'm not sure who she would be talking to or why she would be bothering with Wayne at that point.
  6. It is possible, although Wax's Steel Bubble might also be do to his ability to tap iron, increasing his inherent understanding of weight, in which case no. It is unclear if the steel bubble is from an extreme skill in steel or a resonance between the powers. I would guess yes, but this has not been demonstrated in text yet. So far any amount of aluminum has been capable of completely interfering with investiture usage. People on Scadrial era 2 wear thin plates of aluminum in there hats to effectively block out rioting/soothing. The OB Spoiler:
  7. While it doesn't say so in the text, I got the impression that zinc stores not only mental speed but also some intelligence/active memory. Storing in Zinc is described as making someone dull minded. So its not only storing mental speed, but perhaps also some smartness with it. So tapping that should give mental speed and intelligence. Wax for instance is described as tapping zinc and then considering a dozen scenarios. Wax is smart so maybe he could do it, but being able to consider in depth details on a dozen different plans off the top of his head without any preparation seems a bit more than normal. I imagine it as a side effect granting some increased intelligence and the ability to remember/consider more things at once, similar to how tapping weight from iron also gives one the strength/durability to withstand their own weight, but doesn't make them resistant to any additional weight. Steel on the other hand increases your mental perception and speed in accordance with your physical speed, otherwise you wouldn't be able to control yourself while moving fast.
  8. It is suspected that Ruin may have attempted that. Right before his death, Fuzz exclaimed that Ruin would splinter his power, so he was clearly afraid of that happening. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Ruin would know how to or would have been capable of doing so. Odium had to figure out how to do it himself. His attempt to splinter Dev and Dom were apparently crude compared to what he did with Honor and Ambition. Another important difference to note is that Odium took Dev and Dom's spiritual power and stuffed that into the Cogntitive Realm, but he doesn't appear to have done that with Honor, which is another reason Roshar's Cognitive realm doesn't have Honor's power spilling out, because it is still presumably in the spiritual realm
  9. Brandon based the enciornment of Roshar on the idea of tide-pools, that's why everything has shells and comes out for rain. Also keep in mind that horses are expensive to feed. They normally graze for grass, but they can't do that outside of Shinovar. That, along with the rest of the upkeep, is what makes them so expensive.
  10. You ever notice how Paalm make a lot of refers to freeing the people from Harmony's tyranny and control? Also, the meaning of Autonomy is flexible from person to person, so it could be used in a way that is different to what you're thinking. But there are other post covering this topic. Also keep in mind that the shards can do things outside the scope of their Intent. Endowment for instance wants the shards to go their own ways. That doesn't have anything to do with Endowment, it doesn't run with or counter to her intent. Autonomy could consider Harmony a threat, not to her intent but to other designs she has.
  11. Radiant's are not immortal. And their spren cannot leave the Roshar system (at least it is not currently known how, but tricks might allow it), so its unlikey he would have left for Silverlight or other places. If he was real, which I don't think he was, he's almost certainly dead.
  12. To clarify, force can refer to another god, a person, or a group. He was purposefully being vague. Other quotes indicate that another God besides Adon is possible, but very unlikely.
  13. Originally I was going to say all the shards are passion incarnate about their intent, but that WoB is quite interesting, as it kinda changes things. So I'll throw my own idea in. Theory #3: They're being acted upon by internal forces. This theory is similar to theory 1, except the manipulative entity is the shard itself. First a bit about the mental warping phenomenon the vessels are exposed to. Brandon has stated that shards can influence, and depending upon the person take over their vessels. So there are two variables here, the nature of the shard/intent itself, and the personality/mental-strength of the vessel. We can see this with Ati and Ruin. Ati was a kind and gentle person and tried to hold Ruin at bay. But after a couple thousand years he turned into the raving machine of destruction we know and love. Yet later Sazed can view Ruin as the last chapter of a book, important and not to be denied, but not rushed either. Although after 300 years Sazed appears to be struggling slightly to maintain the balance between Ruin and Preservation, so his final state likely isn't achieved, and Sazed holds two shards so his scenario is slightly different. Another example is Honor. The Stormfather states that Honor used to value the meaning of the oath more than the oath itself. But closer to his death the oath became more important. In other words, as he was dying and his mental strength was weakened, the shard began to take over more. Brandon is always careful to state that the power "can take over" not will take over. So this indicates that the correct combination of vessel and shard could leave a relatively untouched vessel. We don't know all the details, as some have speculated that the vessel's interpretation of the shard's Intent may also be a variable, but it is clear that a Vessel can be warped by their shards, depending on their personality and strength of self, and possibly by the nature of the shard. The second part is the nature of the shards themselves. Some are, arguably, more destructive and non-cooperative than others. Ruin and Odium for example run pretty counter to everything. Its somewhat hard to rationalize other intents that work in cooperation with either of them. Harmony for instance has to balance out Ruin and Preservation by allowing people to live(be preserved) and then to die(to ruin), so that both intents are satisfied. The only time we've seen him preserve someone through death was Wax (you know, that guy that kills people and is kinda a champion for Ruin?). Then you have others like Cultivation and Honor. You can both cultivate and be honorable while doing other things equally. So my theory is that there are two groups of shards, shard's who intents compete with other intents, and shards that can perform their intents without competition from other intents. This aspect of the shard's nature in conjunction with the strength of the Vessel's Mental Strength is what leads to some vessel's being essentially consumed by their shard (the passionate ones), and others that can sustain thoughts outside the scope of their Intent and maintain a more balanced mindset.
  14. I don't think so for a few reasons. The first and main is that Vasher and Vivenna have their own powers, and I don't think we'll see Brandon mixing the powers just yet. I was going to say their magics may interfere with each other, but Nale also bonded a spren and he's already invested, so that probably doesn't matter. Another reason is the Nightwatcher was noted as not liking foreigners, so it may be that all spren prefer natives, although it is suggested that Hoid is trying to bond a spren so that might be a soft rule. As for what orders they would be, that's kinda tough. Vasher is a scholar, very grumpy, dislikes people, and dislikes large numbers of people dying. He's been seen killing to advance his goal, but the goal was to stop a war and a whole bunch more death. So his desire to protect would fit with the windrunners, although he doesn't really have the leader quality. His scholarly nature would fit in with the Elsecallers and Lightweavers, although his grumpy nature seems more in line with the Elsecallers. Vivenna, I'm even less sure. Her arc occurred quite awhile ago, so who knows how she has changed in the mean time. But originally she was about breaking out of her strict world view, and ended the book going on an adventure. So I'm gonna call her a Willshaper. Neither seems destructuve, so no Releaser. Neither is concerned with rules, so no Skybreaker. And neither strikes me as a stoneward. While both are from Nalthis, neither seem artistically driven enough to be Lightweavers. Neither seems reserved enough to be part of the Truthwatchers.
  15. This seems pretty accurate, but I'm gonna nitpick. Pre-Shattering Seems about right. Fun fact, the continent of Roshar is a 2D slice of a 3D slice of a theoretical 4D equation or something like that, so Adon apparently had fun with this one. Post-Shattering Largely accurate. One issue is the Nightwatcher. While the highstorm, and by extension the Stormfather, is confirmed to have existed pre-shattering, the existence of the Nightwatcher pre-Cultivation is a theory at this point. Ashyn Cataclysm Two nitpicks here, first is that while we know the pre-cataclysm society had access to the surges, and we also have word that a disease-based magic system is present on Ashyn, we do not know if they're connected. It seems likely, but it also could be that the disease evolved during the cataclysm, or there are two different magic systems on the planet. Second is that the singers were told to take the humans in by their gods, but it is an assumption that the gods were H&C, it could also be the greater spren, as the fused are also considered gods. The rest seems good.
  16. In my head Windrunners and Skybreakers are opposites, so I assume this means the Honorspren decide the Windrunner's hierarchy. I'm imagining grand debates, or knowing Syl, gladiatorial combat (cue Syl jousting with another highspren, ah, the little things).
  17. Calderis believes they are multiple minds, but one soul. Assuming I understand his interpretation, as I was a little confused last time he explained it. I think that Autonomy is finding investiture that is connected to her, but not controlled by her. She then encourages this source of investiture to sapience, building in some foundational rules and forging a strong connection to it to ensure compliance with the greater autonomy. And then there was another theory that the avatars are just mask that Autonomy jumps between. So the theories go from completely autonomous to not at all. Without any writing that contains viewpoints from Autonomy, its hard to tell.
  18. Jasnah can create perpendicularitys if she has stormlight, which she did on the ship. However, considering the amount of time she spent in the cognitive realm, where stormlight fades and there are no reliable sources, and throw in Brandon's mentioning her escape while on the topic of Honor's perp, it is theorized that that was her escape route. This is true, and I won't dive too deep because it opens up the native Adonalsium investiture debate, but yes shards, notably Autonomy and maybe others, have been to the planet and meddled, but the specific part about everything there being capable of existing without shardic influence indicates the presence of a shardpool without the presence of a shard or without a shard creating one and then leaving.
  19. You are correct, although all of the large stable perpendicularities seen thus far have formed pools. But you're right, the term shardpool is something the communicty came up with that Brandon adopted, his original concept was less focused on the pools. Also, when you're making your post, on the row of icons above your text is an eye, click that to create a spoiler. Hoid was seen on Roshar SA first half, and then on Scadrial 2nd Era which occued later, and Khriss has been sighted on Scadrial as well, so there are canon examples of world hoppers appearing on post Harmony Scadrial. There's a perpendicularity somewhere. I think the Traveller can be assumed as canon, but there is no way to date how soon or long after the Catacendre it occurred. Non-shardic perpendicularites do exist. There are some on Threnody where some of Ambition's power, but not all it, is, and the perps may not be caused by ambition at all. The surge of transportation can form perps as well. Notably, there is a perpendiculaity on First of the Sun that exist without the presence of a shard. Interesting, Brandon has stated that although Shards have since meddled, everything on First of the Sun would exist without shardic interference, indicating that the perpendicularity there existed without any help from shards.
  20. The Highstorm is on a pattern, so it cannot be called random, which Honor's perpendicularity is noted as being difficult to find. We did see the highstorm in the cognitive, and it is filled to the brim with investiture, but that doesn't' make it a perpendicularity. While the highstorm has a significant presence in all the realms, it was not noted as being a place to cross realms, a key feature of a perpendicularity. Perpendicularities are noted as being dense enough to blur the lines between the realms and all observed ones have been small, while the Highstorm is vast and does not blur the lines. OB Spoiler:
  21. There is traffic going on to and off of Scadrial to the rest of the cosmere, so there has to be a perpendicularity, which all perpendicularitys so far have been observed to create a pool, so yes, there should* be a shardpool somewhere. The perpendicularity's are a result of too much power being crammed into a system and pooling into one place. As Harmony is two shards, there should either be one large pool or two normal ones. A shard having more than one pool has been theorized by the 17thshard(noncosmere), but there's no proof for it. There is a theory on he Visitor from another World Broadcast sheet being entirely accurate. The person spotted is wearing the mask of a Southern Scadrialian(?). We know Iyatil was born in Silverlight but is of Southern Scadrial descent, so at least some Southern Scadrial citizens can access the perpendicularity. The only problem with this theory is the pool itself, the writer describes it as being fed by melting snow (he could just be guessing, so this is a soft problem), but more importantly, blue would totally break Harmony's theme of white, black, and grey. Its not impossible, as Aona's pool was also blue, but Ruin and Preservation's pools followed their color themes. Cultivation's is emerald, which follows her plant theme somewhat. This is theorized, but has not been confirmed in the books. The Highstorm provided stormlight before Honor ever came to the planet. Honor has changed the Stormfather and the Highstorm by extension, but placing his perpendicularity there is not confirmed.
  22. The heralds separating out to different countries would make sense, but there are some problems with it. First is during the WoK prologue, there was no discussion of where to go, only that it was separate from the others. Now that doesn't discount it, as it could have been a mutual understanding of stick to your territories, but something to note. The second and larger issue is that Nale and Shalash move around. Shalash destroyed a statue in Alethkar, and several other countries. Nale was shown to have several safe-houses between the pure lake and where ever it was they were going, but definitely in different nation territories, and presumably has many scattered through all the territories. So at least some of the Heralds don't seem confined by borders. This doesn't exclude that some Heralds might have a homebase and just stick there, but I don't think it will be as clean as, one in each of the silver kingdoms excluding Aimia.
  23. Kalak is suspected of being one of the two diplomat Jasnah sees during the assassination of Gavilar, the other being Nale. So you can maybe see a little of him there.
  24. 2) Honor was dead at the time, he was noted to communicate directly to his radiants. 3/4/6) are all being opposed by another shard 1/5/7 are where it gets interesting. Is endowment capable of communicating with only those in the cognitive realm, or does she simply choose not too. She was able to respond to Hoid's letter, indicating she can communicate with the cosmere postal service. Is Harmony incapable of forcing his thoughts onto people, does the shard of preservation prevent this, or does he simply choose not to. Is Cultivation limited to where her avatar appears, is she refraining from giving a target to Odium, does she just not want to show herself? Cultivation really interest me as she is appearing to a noninvested person in the physical realm, which seems to indicate that she could do so to any person at any time, and its entirely by choice that she doesn't interact.
  25. Serving Odium would likely impact bonding with one of the spren. Example, when Odium tried to take over Dalinar, the SF's voice was far away, as though the bond was weakening. When Dalinar pushed Odium away, the bond was stronger. If T could find a balance between Odium and the oaths, then maybe, but it seems unlikely.
