  1. The shardpool on First of the Sun does not exist because of Autonomy. While Autonomy does appear to have meddled on First of the Sun, everything on the planet would have more or less existed without any Shardic influence. We don't actually even know that Patji is a sentient avatar. Brandon stated that Patji is of Autonomy, but that could just mean Autnomy set up/stole the local religion, making the entire pantheon of Autonomy, but not necessarily avatars or even entities, just ideas. I do think Autnomy is leaving avatars around and would have left one on FotS, but there are a number of islands in the pantheon, and any of them or none of them could be the avatar.
  2. For Unity, I think there are two things happening. Dalinar's statement of "I am Unity" is him desribing himself as a force of unity, not as a shard or splinter. I don't think Dalinar is aware enough of shards to make the statement anything else. But Odium's statement about Dalinar Ascending means something else was going on. I like the idea of Dalinar ascending to a splinter of Honor, or partly ascending to the position of most connected to all of Honor, but not enough to claim the position of Vessel.
  3. It would be weird and at first I simply assumed there must be other galaxies. But over time Brandon started to change from a dwarf galaxy to a dwarf cluster. Throw in the only references to external stars being the starmap released and the confirmation that some of there stars are considered outside the dwarf cluster. This struck me as odd. With the size of the cluster the cosmere takes place in, other galaxies should be visible, not just a few stray stars. I also thought it odd that the Shards would stay. As cover by earlier post, it is entirely possible there are valid reasons they stay, but this was where I started to wonder if there is anything outside the cosmere beyond a few stars.
  4. @Leyrann Non canon Fain Life spoilers Another option on why the Shards stay is that there isn't anywhere else to go. Brandon has confirmed that some stars would be considered outside the Dwarf Cluster, but to my knowledge there is no confirmation of other clusters/galaxies. So the shards might not leave because there's not anywhere else to go.
  5. The Terris prophecies were originally created by Preservation, so it seems likely he did expect some of what occurred to happen. He may even have planned for Harmony, but was unable to recall the plan by the time of Mistborn. As for Ruin, the leading theory on foresight is that a Shard's intent determines how good their foresight is. Ruin and Honor are concerned about the here and now. Cultivation and Preservation are concerned about both the now but also the future. So Ruin might now have been able to see the future accurately enough to find the branch that reality took.
  6. Adolin and Renarin were usually guarded with Dalinar, so he had access to the rooms.
  7. After further consideration, I thought of another point against aluminum and for something else to be going on. Aluminum cancels investiture, but that's all it would do. That's why Brandon acts kinda weird when asked if aluminum will stop a shardblade. It will stop the super cutting ability, but that doesn't mean it will stop the large piece of metal smashing through it. Similarly, aluminum could cause the sand ribbons to fail, but that doesn't mean it will stop the high-speed sand racing towards the target with a presumably large amount of energy. One of the assassin's take a sand ribbon directly, fired from Kenton who has some powerful and fast ribbons, and the sands harmlessly splits off. To me this indicates a mechanic unique to sand mastery, and not the effects of aluminum. Otherwise the sand would likely still have the kinetic energy to deal damage to a human, and maybe even the sandlings if fired correctly.
  8. Most of the previous answers tell the story, but a little expansion. Most magic systems(all?) write the ability into your spirit web. There are a variety of ways to go about this, some easier than others, breaths grant the ability to use them once you are given breaths, while allomancy either lerasium, genetics, or hemalurgy. The abilities are created by interactions between a Shard and a Shardworld, but once you get access to the ability it is in your spiritweb and generally not dependent on the shard or shardworld. So you can then use the ability anywhere as long as you have access to a source of power because the ability is written into you and not the planet. Exceptions apply, Radiants currently require contact with their spren to maintain their abilities, for instance. Most magic systems we've seen so far either connect to a local source of power or directly to a shard. For instance, breath can be used anywhere because you're carrying the power with you. Surgebinging as long as you have access to stormlight. Sel magics require access to the Dor. Those are all location dependent because they're accessing the power source through the physical or cognitive realm where space-time applies. Others make a connection to a spiritual source. Allomancy connects directly to Preservation's spiritual well of power. Space doesn't apply in the spiritual realm, so location is irrelevant, so allomancy can be used as long as you have access to metal, which is required to forge the spiritual gateway to Preservation. Brandon has also hinted that some of the magic systems can be hacked to interact/power with others. For instance, Vasher/Zahel requires a breath per week, but has figured out how to substitute stormlight instead, which makes a much easier source. I also feel the need to point out that Sel is a bit more complicated then the others, due to the nature of the Dor. The Dor is located in the cognitive realm and has formed local connections with the land. The magic systems on Sel uses symbols as instructions in order to control the Dor. Metal serves the same purpose in Allomancy, with the chemical makeup of the metal determine what power comes out. But the Dor can only use local symbols. Go too far from the symbol's origins, and the Dor stops understanding them. Go to far from MaiPon and forgery stops working, even if you still have access to the Dor. So Sel requires that you have the ability, typically gained by being a local, that the Dor is around to power the ability, and that the Dor can understand the instructions. This is an excellent example of how complicated Brandon's magic systems are. You can make some general statements, but in order to truly understand them you have to break down each magic systems to figure out the rules. As for Hoid, on Roshar he was observed to use awakening and allomancy. Awakening only requires that he have breaths on him(breaths grant the ability to use them and act as a local power source) and allomancy only requires metals to activate(direct spiritual connection to a shard, Harmony in this instance).
  9. Another awakened hemalurgic spike question. If you spiked the breath out of someone, so the spike is now charged with breaths, could it self-awaken? We'll say 2000ish breaths were spiked. I know you can awaken something with no command and the breath will just sit there. But what if you have a pile of breaths sitting there, with no awakening having occurred in the first place? Because an awakening without a command could be interpreted by the breaths as specifically 'do nothing'. Would breaths spiked out without any awakening or command lack the default of 'do nothing' and be able to gain sentience by themselves? As the investiture breaths come from seem more inclined to life than any other.
  10. On the topic of Reshek moving Scadrial to the sun in order to burn away the mist. I assumed that he attempted to move the planet, realized it didn't work, then due to his mind expanding from the power realized what the actual problem was and fixed that. The mist clearly could exist during the day on Scadrial, so it seemed reasonable that Rashek was actively keeping the mist in check. I don't see why Ruin would wait for Rashek's death before pushing the mist attempt again.
  11. To me wrym means lesser dragon, although I understood what you meant in the context.
  12. We currently know very little about the 17th shard. We do not know how they recruit, or what their true motivations are. The little we do know is that the group is made of worldhoppers, who some of their members are, and that they were chasing Hoid in SA, they prefer nonintervention, and think they Shards should stay away from each other. And no, I doubt they could actually capture Hoid if he resisted. Maybe, because we don't know what they can all do, but not likely. Also, this. Frost is a dragon. Different lores have different definitions of dragon vs wrym vs wyvern, so I would use the exact wording that Brandon uses, in this case dragon.
  13. First, I would note that Brandon's ideas for the cosmere were created before he finished Wheel of Time. While there are probably influences in the cosmere from his experience writing the WoT, I'd be surprised if the Adonalsium part wasn't already solidly created. Second, the civilization on Yolen, where the shattering occurred, only possessed medieval technology at the time. Third, magic was different, but still available pre-shattering, so it could have been used. You wouldn't have to match Adon strength for strength, instead you could strike at a vulnerable spot.
  14. Aluminum doesn't need a lot to be effect in certain circumstances, people on scadrial have thin aluminium sheets in their hats, cancels emotional allomancy. Also, straight aluminum works the best. Alloys are used because aluminum by itself is weak, makes for poor guns and bullets.
  15. Brandon said Odium was more warrior-minded than Harmony. But that's somewhat of a low bar, plus it is not clear is Rayse was warrior minded before his ascension. I'm curious if he started out that way, or gained it through the his experience with Odium.
  16. In the case of the Mists, they're physically touching Nightblood. The highstorms on the other hand can give radiants in the physical realm without physical contact, and even spren in the cognitive are just nearby. So I'm not sure if Nightblood can absorb investiture without physical contact.
  17. ooooo that would place the gap between Elantris and SA at almost 2000 years. I haven't seen this timeline before
  18. The events of Elantris took place before Mistborn. I think the different is hundreds of years(sel time), but less than 1000. Brandon is hesitant to give any number out, since they're not all canon and he may have to change them. But I think the current rough estimate is 1000 years between white sands and SA, take that with a grain of salt. Anyways, Elantris is before Mistborn, but it is not confirmed that the IRE were born after or before the events of Elantris. The function of Elantris(the city) on the Elantrians isn't fully known, so those in the cognitive realm may have escaped the consequences of Elantris failing.
  19. Depends on whether the shards contain all of Adonalsium. They might have his power, but lack his full cognitive abilities for instance. And as for the reason why, full unknown.
  20. Brandon Sanderson The Willshapers have to have Cohesion, because Cohesion is the "grab something solid and melt it and push it in any direction you want..." it's the weak atomic force. It's, you can take this and push your hand into it and leave a hand print, or things like that, and that's a Willshaper thing, not a Bondsmith thing. Footnote: In the context of looking at the Radiant chart source But I am interested in seeing how the surges interact with different realms, if they can.
  21. The influence of shards is not canceled if the vessel has multiple shards. Harmony for instance has to fulfill both Preservation and Ruin, they don't cancel out. That's why he doesn't stop murders. Its also part of the reason he encourages Wax. Wax is incredibly destructive and ruins a lot of things. A balance to all the preservation that happens. Brandon has stated that there was a possible Sazed would have become Discord, if he couldn't balance the shards. Putting Odium with other shards would not make the hatred go away. It would either crush the vessel, or the hatred might be directed at the other Intent. Think Honor+Odium=Vengence.
  22. One of us, One of us! By that, I mean that lurkers that take months to join but can't resist >:D
  23. Also, Odium is stated as being bound by the powers of Honor and Cultivation. So it seems reasonable to assume that some of Honor's power is still being applied to Odium's prison.
  24. Truth be told, I was one of the one's that latched onto the opposing force being another God. Not necessarily a devil figure, more a sibling. Perhaps the creator of fainlife, or something similar to Decay from non-canon Aether of Night. But that appears to not be the case, as everything in the cosmere is basically investiture, and all investiture is related to the shards. Theory killed >.<
  25. Ah, misunderstood what you had read. I don't know if Adonalsium was already around/first god, but probably. There were some theories floating around that there was a sibling/devil figure, but no evidence for that...yet. As for infallible, that's the question! Frost kinda indicates that that several worlds show the touch and design of Adonalsium, so maybe Adon planned his death for reasons. As for why people would try to kill Adon, dunno. There was at least one prior attempt to kill Adon that failed. And the vessels were not the only ones present at Adon's death. Hoid was there, and even offered one of the shards. But we're gonna have to wait for Dragonsteel before any of that is explained.
