  1. Not really. There are only two that are confirmed, that being the Sand Lord from White Sands, and the avatar on Obrodai mentioned in the letter. It is also suspected that Patji from First of the Sun is another one and now Trell from Scadrial. But WoB's definitely indicate that there are more out there.
  2. The name actually does come up elsewhere prior to Mistborn, by a thousand years or so. The name Trell comes up in the White Sands story, both the graphic novel and non-canon prose versions. White Sands features a planet with a big focus on the sun, similar to the original Trelagism religion (which in turn is similar to one on Roshar, coincidence? I THINK NOT). Throw in the WoB that indicates Autonomy likes to use religions, and the one about Shard's visiting Scadrial, and you have an interesting connection.
  3. Nightblood is a tool and has very little agency on his own. He wouldn't make much of an enemy. However, he could be stolen and used by an enemy, that would be really bad.
  4. The Red Tear, or Red Rip, Invocation is referring to is a red star constellation visible from several planet, not the the red mist around Scadrial. And keep in mind, red is a sign of investiture corruption, but that doesn't mean that something red is corrupted.
  5. Similarly, Ruin is willing to build things in order to destroy others. Cultivation and Ruin would likely be opposed at some points, probably most, but not on the scale that Ruin and Preservation are.
  6. I'm not sure we even knew Patji was a Shard at the time of the quote. And even if it was, it is generally understood that when Brandon says a shard we know of, he means we know the name of. At the time we knew of nine shards by name. Of them Autonomy is considered the most likely. The Obrodai Shard is a different subject that came up later. Theories connected the dots on that separately to determine that Autonomy was the most likely, although with less certainty than the Autonomy attacking Scadrial theory..
  7. That's entirely possible, as there are a few shards remaining. But in regards to Scadrial, Brandon has stated that the shard responsible for the attack on Scadrial is known. Of the known shards, Autonomy is the most likely to be attacking Scadrial, hence why there is all the buzz and theories about her.
  8. I started part of it, and then forgot about it once work got busy. If you want I can send over what I have, or maybe I'll finish it one of these days.
  9. Odium is bound by the powers of Cultivation and Honor. the oathpact only binds the fused and has no effect on Odium.
  10. My example was from Bands of Mourning, so yes.
  11. Also keep in mind that Hoid likely has more control over his spiritual and cognitive aspects than most.
  12. This... is an excellent question, I'm really curious about it. I think the liquid physical aspects of the shards are more concentrated than the physical. So I would guess atium but a lot stronger. That's assuming it didn't kill or vaporize you, or just do nothing. But I'm really not sure.
  13. Good call there, I think that's a firm no on that front then. At least, it's enough of a no that it wouldn't make sense to design around it In other quotes he kinda backed away from Wax's abilities coming from being a Savant. In his original idea, savantism was a double edged sword, like Spook or see spoiler. He doesn't want power to be free, but Wax has savantism without any apparent repercussions. So the rules on savantism are kinda questionable at the moment, because he may do a rewrite on that. OB Spoiler Quote: Some OB spoilers: Expensive currently, but Scadrial is well on its way to the level of Chemistry required to produce large amounts of aluminum Isn't this the best!?.
  14. Jasnah recognizes the rules of authoritative power (aka fake power). A large part of Jasnah's mode of operations is maintaining a certain image in people eyes to elicit respect. So I think she'll know when to push and when not to. Also keep in mind while people would most likely throw a fit if Jasnah was queen during peace time, during an emergency on the scale of a Desolation people are going to hold hard and fast to Jasnah's strength/effectiveness.
  15. Kelsier had at most minutes before he needed the well. Elend was already in the cognitive for a few minutes by the time Vin came there.
  16. It is difficult for Cognitive Shadows to ascend to shards at all. Kelsier only managed to do so thanks to the IRE's device. Not to mention, by the time Vin or Ati had collected their wits, Sazed already had the shards. As for a hypothetical scenario in which Ruin was killed and his cognitive shadow was allowed the chance to take up Ruin again, I don't think it would work. Its debatable whether most cognitive shadows have souls, and even if they did they wouldn't have a physical aspect. That would make it difficult to ascend and control the shard.
  17. Gotcha. I actually don't think he is more powerful. He inherited Honor's cognitive shadow, maybe increasing his cognitive power, but not any of the spiritual power which is the main body of the shard. But thanks to that shadow, he is massively connected to the remnants of Honor. I don't think it does him any good, but it grants a good foothold for anyone that bonds the SF. That's just speculation though, not sure what abilities he had prior to Honor's death.
  18. It gets confusing and some things don't add up. Some theories say that infinity for shards means a never ending cycle. There's a limited amount of power, but its constantly reused so it never runs out. Others think the actual power of the shards is infinite, but the mind of the vessel can only control so much. This would require that the mind of Sazed has been expanded past what the other vessels have had, in order to be considered stronger than than the other shards. Or maybe the shards have unassigned power that they can use, and the rest is locked into the fabric of the universe, so infinite but only some is available for use. We don't know enough about shards to be sure.
  19. @robardin Don't forget that Paalm has a thousand years of experience in shaping her body. She could construct hearing appendages beyond what any other living creature could possess. Invested metal makes for poor spikes, so containing two different powers inside one spike is very unlikely.
  20. And thus you enter into the Autonomy Avatar debate. There are a variety of theories on what exactly is going on with Autnomy's avatars, none of which can currently be confirmed or denied. Most of them follow the idea that the Shard is infinite, but the mind is not. So, make more minds, control more power.
  21. The Intents describe what the Shards want to do to others. Preservation wants to preserve others, which is why he can sacrifice himself. Ruin wants to ruin other things, which is why he had no plans to destroy himself. So Autonomy should want to make other things autonomous. The kicker is that the definition of autonomy can be interpreted differently by different people, so we don't actually know what Autonomy's goals are. No, Preservation was the first shard to be held by someone not of the original 16 vessels. This is a valid theory. Some have guessed that creating autonomous avatars is Autonomy's way of expressing her intent.
  22. Merely the spren of a massively invested world shattering hurricane? Then yes, he was likely the spren of the Highstorm before Honor arrived. No other spren of the Highstorm are noted to exist beyond wind spren, which makes sense since people of Roshar think of The Highstorm as singular, and their thoughts would have shaped any spren of the Highstorm.
  23. I don't think Nazh's knife was silver, as Kelsier would have noted that. Silver thus far has been shown to only have unique properties on Threnody with the shades. There are not a lot of examples from other worlds of Cognitive Shadows touching silver to say yea or nea. The heralds and the Returned must have come into contact with silver, but they have physical bodies so they're pretty different. But I would guess with some confidence that silver being damaging is unique to Threnody's Shades.
  24. It was kinda inferred by the text that certain bloodlines held stronger allomancy potential than others, but it wasn't noted to be just one or two houses, all of them had potential for mistings, which also means a small chance for a mistborn.
  25. A "certain object" likely contained investiture from the attacking shard, so yes, technically the shard is on the planet, or at least a small piece. Now whether or not the main body/core of the shard is on Scadrial, or even in the system, is unknown.
