So, I was watching a Youtube video with a friend the other night, and then a couple of days later, it inspired this random writing prompt in my head. A couple of days writing it while bored at work, and I have something hopefully semi-decent to show you all xD Hopefully you'll like it, but be warned, it's hardly been spellchecked etc. The prompt - Spoilers for the story within, please read after the story itself The story Let me know what you all think, how I did etc! Hopefully it'll entertain you if nothing else!

The letter from Kelsier in The Final Empire always makes me tear up as he says goodbye to his friends and asks them to remember the good times and smile... I'm such a sucker for it, but I'm misty-eyed just remembering it and typing this out. Got me in the audiobook version, too...

It's a slight point of contention on what exactly the slog is, but most people agree on the books (I forget exactly which) where Robert Jordan tried to match up his wonky timelines for characters by having a book set just after the climaxtic event of the previous book as a reference. There are certainly points of contention as well, such as what's been dubbed the Plotline of Doom or Plotline That Just Won't End involving , or the now infamous bath scene. You'll know when you get to them. But your mileage may vary, since different people are invested in different storylines and plots and characters after all. ^^

Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!

Sixth of the Dusk? -
They couldn't feel Taln's torture unless they were on Braize with him, could they? Else they'd have known instantly when he broke and returned to Roshar. That makes me think they couldn't feel his torture for the last 4000 years, which means it wouldn't be a factor to their madness.

The women in this series bother me [1st book spoilers]
ScarletSabre replied to mattig89ch's topic in The Wheel of Time
The only thing I can say in defence of the characters is that there ARE characters who don't act like that, quite a few women in fact. They have foibles and problems of their own, but I will say there are some. They are, sadly, few and far between for some parts. And the manipulation etc are big plot points for Rand going forwards in fact, as he tries different ways of dealing with them, and with thinning patience for it, with various forms of success and failure. Honestly, if you can't get past it, fair enough, I'd recommend something like Villain's Rule - The Shadowmaster Book One if you want something funny, if very adult, dealing with fantasy and worldbuilding etc. That being said, I'd say give the next book a shot, especially since it's where Matt really comes into his own, and becomes a fan favourite. But of course it's up to yourself! ^^ -
That could also just be a byproduct of immortality. We know that in our world, as we get older, time appears to move more quickly due to our perception. (I don't have a link to the studies but it was mentioned on an episode of QI, so I urge you to go find and enjoy that on Youtube! You'll thank me later. ) So for an immortal being living centuries and millenia, I'd imagine it's easy for a few decades to just be a blur to them. Some forms of immortality, like Hoid's, and presumably Heightening and it's changes in awareness, probably have some innate defence against this...

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ScarletSabre replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If Brandon had to take up a Shard, which would he choose and why? Has Vasher ever been to Threnody? If Vasher HAS been to Threnody, has he experimented on the Shades, perhaps as an alternative source of Breath/Awakening? How would Jasnah go about studying Shades? -
That certainly could be one reason for it, but we see when she's meeting Mraize that it's also literal compulsion with her, one she can very rarely resist.
-
Don't forget she has the compulsion of destroying any image/imagary of herself, regardless of her current objective. That, so far seems to be the extent of her madness that we've seen, but madness can take many forms. She's literally self-destructive and seems to resent her previous self and worship of her as a Herald, wheras Jezrien seemed to find it bitterly amusing.

[OB] Who has the most Named character kills
ScarletSabre replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Let's see... Kaladin has Heleran, Szeth, and if you count his guilt over the people he's gotten killed by leading them into rebellions or not being able to save them, quite a few others... I'm probably forgetting one or two. Shallan has Tyn, her father (who's name I forget), her mother, and at least a couple of others I know I'm forgetting... Adolin only has Sadeas and possibly Eshonai to his named kill count. Gotta give it to Shallan, methinks -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted. However your bane is the fact you never said it had to be a good song. Enjoy~ I wish for the ability to levitate books so I can read with no hands. -
Awakening - Object, Command, Effect - Game
ScarletSabre replied to ScarletSabre's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It works, Alexa becomes sentient and focused on one thing... Defeating Siri, wife of Susebron. She challenges her to games of chess, cards, minesweeper, everything possible to order through your amazon account, all to try and defeat the wife of the God King, and will not listen to any orders from you until she succeeds. I want to awaken a couch with the command "Become as comfortable as my own skin, carry my burdens where I wish to go." -

[OB] Speculation on Azure and Zahel
ScarletSabre replied to ScarletSabre's topic in Stormlight Archive
Very good points... And Nale definitely knows humans are the trespassers, he specifically asks Szeth before Szeth goes to Dalinar on whether they should fight for the true/original owners of Roshar or not. The questions for me are how long he's known, and whether or not that had any influence on him giving Nightblood to Szeth... and how the storming hells he got Nightblood in the first place. Hmmm... I wonder if Nale took him from Vasher after Nightblood decided Nale would be far better at destroying evil than Vasher, who seems to have come to Roshar to pretty much chill out (possibly after killing Yesteel...). Perhaps this was their disagreement/falling out? -
Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!

[OB] Okay, so who exactly had the cold?
ScarletSabre replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've always suspected that they didn't know they were carrying it, since the 17th Shard has a non-intervention policy, and if they were of sufficient Heightening or otherwise Invested, they could easily carry it without realising. Of all of them though, I'd probably guess Demoux, since Scadrial is the closest Earth analogue we have, and colds/flu/sniffles are seen when Wayne is storing Health, but I don't think we've seen any similar diseases on Sel or Taldain, so Galladon and Baon are less likely, in my opinion. (Though that being said, Galladon is away from Sel/Elantris and is presumably not glowing, so isn't chugging from a Dor-flask, so his immunity to disease might have faded... And if I recall correctly it was the microbes in the sand of Taldain being exposed to the Sun that invested it, so who knows what Baon may be carrying... And they DID speculate on the purported magicalness of the fish, presumabley knowing about Aviar...) We don't really have enough to know, but my guess is Demoux for now, anyway! -
[OB] Speculation on Azure and Zahel
ScarletSabre replied to ScarletSabre's topic in Stormlight Archive
Just because the Nightwatcher offered Nightblood to Dalinar, doesn't necessarily mean that she was in possession of it at that time. Huh, I'd forgotten about that... Perhaps Vasher went to the Nightwatcher for some reason, such as being able to convert Stormlight to Breaths etc, and that's where they had the falling out, over the Nightwatcher or Cultivation... -
Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!
ScarletSabre replied to Kidpen's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Sebarial? And you reused the male hint! -
Oh, we have confirmation on that? I wasn't sure... Plus, reading the Annotations for Warbreaker in the last few days reminded me that the sickness touching Nightblood caused Vivenna is Nightblood's test for evilness. An evil person will pick him up and want to, and will, use him to kill others. A good person will feel sick from it. So he seems to have some way of knowing the abstractness of evil...

[OB] Speculation on Azure and Zahel
ScarletSabre replied to ScarletSabre's topic in Stormlight Archive
According to the annotations on Warbreaker, Nightblood's effect on people to test whether they're a good person or not, and if he'll kill them, is tempting them to draw him. If they're a good person, they'll feel sick when they get near to/touch him, and then afterwards be immune to some of his effects. Anyone who's evil will feel a desire to draw the sword and kill with it, and that feeling will be enhanced. It's why Vasher just throws the swords into the middle of people, if they pick it up and try to kill with it, it's good enough for him to not feel bad about killing them. -
Isn't the ancient ardent we see in the Palaneum confirmed to be a Herald as well? I forget her name...

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ScarletSabre replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
As do I, and I just thought of a semi-canonical way Brandon could write something involving them... Alcatraz uses his Talent to break the boundaries of the multiverses. Or the boundaries of the fourth wall, perhaps! -
Also, @eleventh of the moon , Vasher had been to Roshar before the events of Warbreaker and Way of Kings He saw Shardblades, and based Nightblood's design on them, trying to recreate them/create a version of them with Awakening. Vivenna/Azure's sword is a closer version to a traditional Shardblade, though if I recall correctly, something happened during Nightblood's creation that made him so much more powerful than a Shardblade, which we'll eventually find out what. Oh, and Nightblood originally had a different name when he was created, Vasher took to calling him Nightblood after he used him to kill his wife to keep the secret of his creation hidden. So we might learn that in the future too!

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ScarletSabre replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Will we ever see the Origin of Storms? Will we see Jasnah and Vasher swapping Scholarly tips? Is Yesteel on Roshar? How well would Hoid and Alcatraz get along?
