  1. Brandon did model them after akali metals.
  2. The general theory is that the Bands of Mourning which TLR had were not the same ones discovered in BoM. TLR's were symbolic, in truth only atium metalminds holding his age, which stories expanded into bracers granting all the powers.
  3. Because fire seems to be the most effective way of killing entities made from cremlings.
  4. Yes. Yes it would. You could make it burnable if you just pierced yourself with it, though that's still fairly dangerous.
  5. Yeah, that's my opinion, though I'm still looking for the WoB I initially posted about.
  6. Possibly. My opinion though is that even though it's storing investiture, it's still encoding it into a different type of investiture, the feruchemical charge, which is what is going into the metalmind. Therefore a regular person wouldn't be able to tap it, as they would still need the sDNA component which would allow them to decode the feruchemical charge. The example of Vin doesn't really work I don't think, because my impression was not that she was feeling the feruchemical charge in the metalmind, but instead was just feeling the fact that there was a metal she could burn for allomancy. However, because of the identity issue, she couldn't actually burn it. The theory is that the ettmetal copies the action of tapping a nicrosilmind charge granting the power of feruchemical nicrosil, then when the medallion is touched, it triggers that action, consuming a bit of itself for the necessary investiture, then projects the decoded power into the holder. After that, they are able to tap a nicrosilmind in the medallion for further nicrosil tapping power, along with the other powers. The ettmetal is not storing an attribute, it's storing the action of tapping the charge, just like how it can store the action of releasing the investiture that comes from burning a metal during allomancy.
  7. Hmm. No, I think it's not feruchemy. The second WoB sounds like a back track on the first one which said he's using feruchemy. More like, what Brandon meant was that he uses the mechanics of feruchemy. Note that that WoB is paraphrased so it's entirely possible he did say something more along the lines of "he uses the mechanics of feruchemy" and the person just took that too mean he used feruchemy. In any case, both WoB are paraphrased so not as reliable as they could be. However, him not actually using feruchemy makes sense to me since it appears he's been using that power before he went to Scadrial.
  8. Underlying mechanic makes it sound like he has access to the Cosmere mechanic which chromium feruchemy uses to manipulate luck, but not via feruchemy. Similarly to how lightweaving can be obtained by different magic systems, probably by using the same underlying mechanic, which is known on Roshar as the surge of illumination.
  9. Yeah, I know that. But that also doesn't really make sense since we have another WoB that says that investiture can't be destroyed. The other one where he's making it unusable sounds familiar. However, I'm fairly certain I saw one once which said it was still in the Cosmere.
  10. No, the investiture is actually investing the allomancer while they're burning the metal. The system would be comprised of Preservation, the allomancer, and an external target, if any.
  11. Too obvious honestly. It's been said so much, I would be disappointed if it turned out to be atium. Besides, WoB is that Harmony removed the pits where atium formed, so it feels unlikely.
  12. Possibly, except don't forget that the metals required to make the medallions are difficult to make without the right technologies and the north was on the brink of steam technology before TFE-era, so they may not have had the metals required to make it happen. I think in the books somewhere it was said that the ancient Terris didn't know that much about the spiritual metals either.
  13. I'm fairly certain that I've read a WoB which said that the investiture Nightblood consumes is redispersed into the Cosmere, primarily because I reference it in another topic. However, I'm unable to find it again. Has anyone seen it before?
  14. It's been confirmed at an event that ettmetal is harmonium. Bleeder's spike was made from a different metal. Allik said that ettmetal explodes in contact with water.
  15. Unless there were some intentions towards nine, I think probably just coincidental plus some symbology by Brandon.
  16. Maybe Nightblood will talk about her. "Szeth, there was another. She was nice. She only went away the other day I think. Gave me to Nale and went away. I wonder if she went looking for Talaxin."
  17. So you're thinking that it was deliberate that only Taln was killed? Possible. As Kalek mentions, he did die in a predictable manner so it could've been planned.
  18. For the first one was, I think numbers is referring to like, quantity of shards. So in other words, they're asking if he had help. The second one seems really vague and doesn't seem to be really saying anything. It's paraphrased and the person who wrote seems to have had a bad recollection of what was said. The third one has no bearing on the matter. I doubt he chose Braize because it was third. Overall, there's nothing tangible there whereas we have a much better case for the numbers belonging to the planet where the manifestation of investiture is occurring. Primarily, the fact that both Ruin and Preservation have created systems with the number 16 embedded. Additionally, each of the three systems on Roshar have the number 10 embedded, and I don't think all of them are only of Honor. At least one is probably not of Honor at all.
  19. Link to the WoB? Also, I think there's more to say that the numbers belong to the planets.
  20. The numbers seem to be more related to the planet than the shard as Ruin's manifestations of investiture, hemalurgy and feruchemy, also use the number 16. Additionally, on Roshar, all three manifestations of investiture manifest the number 10, and chances are at least one of them is separate from Honor, or least has another shard involved.
  21. It doesn't seem to be that you can turn nicrosil charge to A-pewter investiture. I don't see it creating kinetic investiture.
  22. I see. The wording you're providing doesn't really point to that conclusion. I'd have to see the actual WoB if you can provide it.
  23. That still doesn't mean it's granting the ability. It could just be that awakening is a Cosmere-wide power like hemalurgy. However, I will admit that the fact that holding more breath does grant innate knowledge about awakening makes it more linked. In any case, I'll agree that it is fairly definitely in part innate as it does do weird things directly to the soul be being held, such as Clod being more sentient than normal lifeless because Arsteel had a significant number of breaths when he died. Connection is bound through your innate investiture so I'm pretty sure if you could store any innate investiture you could start messing with your spiritual connections. A direct example being that allomancers have a greater innate investiture than normal, and this is due to their increased connection to Preservation. So there is a definite connection, so I don't think they can be treated as distinct.
  24. With Ryshadium's though, we don't have evidence of either party adding some investiture to make the bond significant. Either way, I'm not convinced there's anything realmatic with them. They're just sentient horses smart enough to decide whether they prefer one person over another in my opinion. At the stage we're at, whether the bond or the bonded entity is the important factor isn't really that important since the investiture-based bonded entity likely determines the nature of the bond. In any case though, I don't think it's generally bonds on Roshar which grant enhancements, but more accurately bonds to splinters. At the same time, I agree with the assessment that splinters are the foci of the magics on Roshar. In any case, I feel we have a stronger argument for them being the foci than bonds since spren are directly involved in fabrials, which are the third manifestation of investiture on Roshar by accounts, and there doesn't seem to be a bond going on, unless there is a thought the spren is bonded to the gemstone and somehow granting it an enhancement which is then spreading into the overall machine.
