Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I agree with Mark that it would be very unlikely for the elims to kill Mat if he PM'd one of them. Manipulating him (and by extension, the rest of his network) through the PM is far more useful. I don't necessarily think it's suspicious for Karnatheon to state this as he is a fairly new player, unless Karnatheon is the one that was contacted by Mat, or we find out that Mat's first contact was an elim (int that case, I'd be willing to lynch Karnatheon for that comment). Is there any reason why a Fal Dara warrior should not claim to pass along whether SnipExe confirmed his presence in that doc? As far as I can tell they don't hold any powers that the village desperately needs or that the elims can abuse, but I could be wrong. I'll have more thoughts and a vote in a bit, but I need to gather my thoughts a bit more and I'm really hoping some of the more quiet people post a bit more.- 583 replies

The creepers actually slipped my mind there for a second when I made that recommendation. I've said before that we shouldn't count on Rand's anti-forsaken kill to still be around by the time all defenses are gone, but you're right that the creepers can be a big concern. @Ookla the White-Cloaked @Ookla the Rogue, would you be informed if your action was redirected?- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Callsign: Jato, the reason I brought up you doing a lot of the math is that that is usually something I do in one of my posts, especially when I've taken the time to do some work beforehand (which is not the case this game), so I mentioned it to show why I would not be including something like that in my post. SnipExe being hardy is tricky. If he's not Aginor, I can see the elims attacking him on the off-chance that he's Rand and the Green man is sleeping, but at the same time attacking him and finding him to be protected would pretty much guarantee that he's village. Perrin, I'd like to ask you to take careful consideration if you're considering protecting SnipExe, especially if he or someone else is asking you to in a doc you're in. Losing Rand would be a blow, yes, but I think it would be even worse if Aginor manages to pull of a wounded Gazelle Gambit. Edit: Don't forget to send in your Defend actions! Also, for those that don't know, a wounded gazelle gambit is when the elims attack one of their own after ensuring that person is protected to get that person to be considered village.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches

@Mark IV, @STINK, @Ookla of the East, @Ookla the Cited and @Ookla the Libre , you haven't been poked yet, so consider this your pokage. If you're just arriving and finding yourself to be incredibly lost, submitting an action to defend the Eye is always good. It stops us from losing that way, and the first ring gives you a 10% chance of not dying if the elims try to kill you. Second of all, my own vote. I won't be around for much longer this cycle, so I'll be making one with intent to lynch, not to poke. So, let me share some of my thoughts so far. These are fairly weak reads for the most parts, as it'based on one or two posts at most (so not much of a read at all), but it'll make me feel better about trying to lynch whoever I end up on voting. I've got Ookla the ring as pretty village based on this post: There's one or two people that I think would be able to fake genuine-looking confusion like this, and would know that that is a good idea. Unless Karnatheon is a returning SE veteran though, I'm reading him as village right now. Furami, mr. doctor and Devotary both started with doing some math regarding the attack on the eye. This is fairly NAI, but it's good to see them invest time and effort, and if that continues their alignment should become clearer as the game progresses, so I don't want to vote on either right now. Mr. Doctor in particular has a track record of being sneaky as an elim, so I'll keep an eye on him. Snipexe stands out in a negative way right now, the reason for that being that his posts says absolutely nothing, in way too many words. He mentions enjoying the thoughts so far, but doesn't actually share why he enjoys them. Does he like the analysis being done? Does he agree, or disagree with what's being said? Just saying you're enjoying something doesn't tell anyone anything. The same goes for his second paragraph, in which he brings up that he's interested in seeing how the vote negation from the defense actions will play out. Though he's not wrong that it might have a big effect on lynches, he just leaves it at this one statement, rather than providing some suggestions for ways to alleviate this problem. That's enough for me to toss a vote on SnipExe(Ookla the Skeptical) at this early stage. Edit: wow, on a reread I'm really not explaining properly why I'm somewhat suspicious of Ookla the Skeptical. Basically, his post feels like he's trying to appear more active and involved than he actually is, which can be an early elim tactic to not appear on the radar of anyone wanting to lynch for inactivity while at the same time not saying anything that could get you in trouble.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
...And so the confusion begins. I saw Mr. Doctor's list and thought for a moment he was already having reads on people, including listing me as village. Anyway, 5 elims feels like 1 to many to me. It's true that the village has a lot of power roles, but the elims will start manifesting more kills starting N3, and even without those they'd have us on a 5-turn clock if there where 5 of them. I don't suppose this will matter much right now though. We should remember that cycles are only 24 hours, and that we do have a lynch this cycle, so if possible everyone should chime in so we have as much info as possible to decide a lynch on.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So, I realize a lot of people shorten my name to Rand, but it might be a good idea to not do that for this game to prevent confusion. Anyway, Furami has done most of the mathing already. One thing they didn't bring up is the various on-defense effects of the different layers. in particular, the first layer gives a 10% chance to be defended from the evil night kill, which is pretty useful, while the 4th ring protects from the creature kill. The 2nd and 3rd rings however are either useful in the very late game if the elims have lots of vote manipulation, or useful for the elims in the early game to try and figure out who's defending, and who is doing something else by watching what their vote manipulation does and what happens in the vote tally. The 6th ring would provide the same late-game benefit as the 2nd and 3rd, but without the same risk. I'd personally recommend based on this to hold the 1st ring as long as feasible, and then let the 2nd and 3rd fall and hold on to the 4th ring as long as possible. Now, I don't think it's a good idea to base any sort of planning on the assumption that we'll have Rand's ability available in the late game. If we do, it'll be useful, but we should remember that someone that survived being channeled at could still be evil. They're just not one of the two named forsaken. @Ookla the White-Cloaked, if the usual count-down timer thing isn't working, could you include the end-time in a variety of time zones? In particular I'd appreciate either GMT and/or CET.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Someone making a post from Lan's perspective would indeed give the game away. Instead you could just RP as your OC, even if you've got a role that says you're someone else. In past games, I've often worked in small sneaky nods to may actual role when I had time to RP, but avoided outright stating anything. Edit: and I did indeed miss Rand's kill.- 583 replies

Hmm, a wheel of time game. Interesting. Luckily I've actually read some of those books, so I shouldn't be completely lost. I'll be Evelyn, a not-that-old Wise woman. Edit: I've taken a quick look at the rules. Is it correct that there is no way to actually kill the creeper NPC's?- 583 replies

Long Game 49/Anonymous Game 3: Window to the Past
DeTess replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This was a pretty great game to be in. For the first bunch of hours it felt far more like a play-by-post RPG than a game of SE, which is not a bad thing, but it did mean I wasn't listening to my SE-instincts (yes, those are thing now ) when they where yelling at me that Aesudan was evil. Anyway, I'd like to give a shout-out to the players behind Aesudan and wit, as I really enjoyed your exchanges, as well as to the one playing Jasnah, who was far more on top of what was going on this game than I was! Also, I shouldn't be forgetting the GM's, as this must have been a massive game to run with all the various gambits and the like going on.- 1062 replies

Quick Fix Game 33 - Deception: Murder in the Cosmere
DeTess replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
First, I'd like to quickly apologize for being less active in the latter half of this game. I'd like to claim it was because I was super busy, but ti was in fact quite the opposite. I've just finished an internship and had very little to do last week, but that only made clear that i really needed some rest and time without doing anything involving using my brain for analytical stuff. Anyway, well done to steeldancer for figuring it out, and to the elim team for making this one pretty difficult. Thanks to Herowannabe for running it and Alvron fro IM-ing it. Anyway, i did really enjoy this style of game, as has already been suggested, I'd make every day 24 hours, or have the first day be 48 hours and then the rest be 24, as in the 2nd and 3rd day there's usually significantly less to discuss than in the first day. The conspirator role is also very interesting, especially in that figuring out what the best method and evidence to select is requires the same kind of skills as you need to solve the crime, so you're still very much playing the same game. -

Alright, I don't really see any other evidence on Cadcom that matches the clues, so i think we can safely dismiss him. Let's see what that leaves us with: (greyed out matches no evidence or matches an unchosen hint better) I'm not seeing which of Elandera's evidence or method would match the head, though it could be the tears of edgli flower. Meta with the scarf and either the White sand or the Aviar feather could work, though Aviar feather is a better fit for necessary. Nightmaw/pet monkey isn't a particular good fit, and its the only one with Snipexe. Droughtbringer's only possible method is rioting, and 'big city' would be a far better fit for locaiton in that case. I'm not really seeing the 'head' hint with what remains of madagascars options. PK could fit somewhat, though deathants is the better fit for necessary, but its also a method that would fit better with poisoning. ITIAH's lost divine breath would fit with 'head' and 'necessary', but none of his evidence fits wilderness well. Bort has got a lot of options, but nothing that seems to be a perfect fit. Devotary lacks something that fits the 'head' hint. Joe has multiple options as well, though nothing that would fit with 'necessary'. Walin lacks something that's necessary as well. # Player Name Methods of Murder Pieces of Evidence Removed 1 Elandera / Oyh Sword, Deathweed Bark, Meekers, Dreok's Axe, Aon Daa (Power), Axehound Pup, Bullet Casings, Ancient Text, Tears of Edgli Flowers, Aluminum Hat 2 MetaTerminal / Felksi Fenweed Poison, Rathbore Monk, Scarf, Koloss Blade, Surgebinding, White Sand, Withered Hand, Aviar Feather, Message Written in Blood, Singed Cloak 3 Snipexe / The Witness Steelrunning, Nightmaw, Nightblood, Midnight Essence, Poisoned Wine, Pet Monkey, Red Flag, Piece of Ralkalest, Religious Text, Ceremonial Bowl 4 Droughtbringer / In Bloodsealing, Metal Poisoning, Rioting, Dagger, Punch, Water Bottle, Chull Dung, Dust, False Beard, Vandalism 5 Madagascar / Mad Acid, Dueling Cane, Bow & Arrow, Ettmetal Explosion, Aimian, Children’s Book, Cracked Gemstone, Larkin Corpse, Boots, Fancy Dress 6 Steeldancer / Squid of Steel Skeletals , Enhanced Strength, Poisoned Needle, Backbreaker Powder, Atium, Ice, Blood, Scorch marks, Vandalized Statue, Straw Man 7 Paranoid King / The Ghost of John Smith Blackbane Leaf, Deathants, Birchbane, Whitespine, Awakened Rope, Triangular Razors, Aon Kii, Aon Ashe Plate, Spectacles, Pot of Stew 8 Randuir / Holmlock Shears Bare Hands, Burned at the Stake, Obsidian Axe, Swampvine, Kick, Tattoo, Survivor Pendant, Firemoss, Hairpin, Crem 9 I Think I am Here. / Itiah VII Lost Divine Breath, Dakhor Ritual, Shades, Blood Loss, Venomous Bite, Horseshoes, Stick, Ink, Spanreed, Empty Vial 10 Bort / May Bebort Jeskeri Cult Ritual, Booby Trap, Mistwraith, Grandbow, Firesnap Lizards, Bones, Footprint, RaiDel Pepper, Lavis Beer, Cigar Case 11 Rathmaskal / Harry Hemalurgic Chimera, Smoke, Toxic Fungus, Glass Dagger, Air-powered Crossbow, Artifact, Scorch Marks, Priest’s Robes, Fashion Magazine, Dirt 12 Devotary of Spontaneity / Fourth of the Twilight Poisoned Dart, Cut-away vines, Torture, Highstorm, Shardplate, Broadsheet, Aon Reod, Map, Wetleek Sap Trail, Crab Legs 13 A Joe in the Bush / Various Divide Beheading, Shardblade, Cliff, Deepwalker, Betrayal, Medallion, Lockpicks, Soulstamp, Shu-Korath Pendant, Safehand Glove 14 Kidpen / Alvron Duel, Hammer, Patji’s Finger, Strangle, Hook, Aonic Dictionary, Purple Blood Droplets, Saddle Strap, Lak, MaiPon Sticks 15 Cadmium Compounder / Spork Soulcasting, Explosion, Lifeless Soldier, Rifle, Dehydration, Hoofprints, Glow Paste, Smoke, Rotspren, Wig 16 Walin / Higsedal The Shaod, Chasmfiend, Black Frayn, Fire, Martial Arts, Forged Painting, Infused Spheres, Lamp, Skull, A'kar's Symbol -

@I think I am here., remember that we're not just looking for what fits the evidence, we're looking for what fits the evidence adn doesn't fit another option on any of these cards better. A lot of options you're suggesting are far better represented by other options (burned at the stake would be represented by 'severe injury', for example, as you can't accidentally burn someone at the stake). The same goes for hunting accidents with any of the available weaponry. Sure, they could be involved, but they'd be better represented by the other options. -
Quick Fix Game 33 - Deception: Murder in the Cosmere
DeTess replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thanks! That doesn't seem like an obvious solution, thought it's not a bad fit to 'wilderness' and 'accident'. I also think we need to take a look at the footprint evidence, as that one seems like an important clue as well, given that most of the options on that card could be used to point to something specific. Footprint weapons Steelrunning Kick deepwalker Other weapons can leave footprints, but these are things that are particularly associated with this option over the other options. Footprint evidence boots Horseshoes Footprint (elementary, dear Watson) wetleek sap trail (maybe) hoofprints I think it's actually quite likely one of the above pieces of evidence is related to the murderer. -

Quick Fix Game 33 - Deception: Murder in the Cosmere
DeTess replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A lot of these clues sound very first of the sun to me. Especially the wilderness/accident/necessity combo. I'm fairly certain hunters Always ended up in conflict with each other if they crossed tracks, because that was how thing where done/expected. Anyway, lets see what the various clues indicate. Accident Rioting Ettmetal explosion booby trap Patji's finger Dehydration shades deathants (maybe) nightmaw (maybe) whitespine (maybe) firesnap lizards (maybe) Chasmfiend (very maybe) I've included most wildlife as maybe's, as the most common way to employ these as a weapon would be in a trap-ish way, which would include accident. I'm including ettmetal explosion but not the normal one, as ettmetal is something you can accidentally set off, but an explosion less so. Wilderness Nighmaw Deathants whitespine shades firesnap lizards highstorm chasmfiend patji's finger I don't see much evidence that would point without doubt to accident or wilderness, to quite a few could fit one of these. -

Holmlock Shears walked into the Investicon hall a good day later than intended. Unfortunately, the case of the missing animal crackers had kept him occupied for longer than intended, sadly a not uncommon occurrence when the French burglar got involved. He was here now though, and clearly not a moment too soon. A soothsayer, after having predicted their own kidnapping, had gone missing, and it was up to the finest minds in the investigative multiverse to find him before worse befell the good man. -

Well played everyone! @MetaTerminal, it seems we should have gone with your hunch instead of mine for who the witness was after all. I like the ideas being presented here for adding to the game, in particular the 'false trail' and the vote for which card to pick ones. Edit: @Kidpen, yeah, I seem to be evil a lot these last couple of games, but before that I had a 7+ game streak of being village. i guess I'll just have to go sacrifice some animal crackers to the gods of luck and chance to stop them from messing with stuff like this. -
