Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, I'm in favor of Lynching BR right now, though that might change if she's got a really good explanation for my question. However, I'm signing off for the day after this post. I also suggest we don't spend too much time hunting for the false fielder. I think they spoke enough in the doc that I could get a fairly good idea if I do some in-depth analysis of their speaking pattern, but I just don't have the time for that right now. Regarding using out-of-game info, I believe (though the mods will of course correct me if I'm wrong) that you can use knowledge you gained outside of the game if that knowledge isn't game related. So if I someone accidentally told me what doc they where in on Discord or in real life, that'd be wrong, but if I know someone is a fan of DC comics, and is using 'Batman' as their name in an anonymous Doc, it'd be fine for me to connect the dots there.- 583 replies

Young Bard also seems familiar with WoT in his opening post. But yeah, you've got a pretty good list of my current pool of suspects. Edit: the one thing suggesting it's not BR is that she said on the Discord that she has no intention of reading WoT during the recruitment drive for this game.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches

I did that, and I know that because of an exchange we had all the way at the start of the doc, in which I alluded to the way every single wheel of time book starts, and it wen't completely over their head. They said as much in the doc. Though it could be faked the whole exchange ran too natural to be fake, I think. There's a couple of other clues that could be more easily faked, such as that they where inactive for N1 and most of D2 in the doc, and that they seem to be in an american east-coast time-zone based on when they are active.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches

Karn, it's generally not allowed to remove information from a post you've made, unless that information is in breach with one of the other rules. Linking a doc would allow you to change its contents easily without it necessarily being easy to check, so I think it'd be better if you put everything in the post. I'm not a mod or GM, of course, so they might decide it's fine. This is just what I can find in the rules for this particular case. I've been going back over the Meta lynch, and it's starting to really bother me. Amanuensis vote seems well-reasoned and he brings some of his own arguments to the table, but if either Amanuensis or Furami ends up flipping Elim, I'd take another hard look at the other one. However, almost every vote afterwards had very little in the way of reasoning to it. Droughtbringer voted to solidify the vote and because he didn't like the Fura vote. At that time the lynch was still wide open and there was plenty of time left int eh cycle, but he didn't make mention of any of the other lynch candidates. After that was cadcom voted on Meta because he thought Fura was village. Once again, no mention of any other candidates. The final votes all happened at the tail-end of the cycle, so I'm less suspicious of those. I think Droughtbringer's lack of content in particular has crossed the line into being very suspicious. He's got plenty of posts and some interactions with people, but absolutely ntohing that resembles an indication that he's working to solve the game. As it is, I want to lynch either BR or Droughtbringer this cycle, but my preference still goes to BR as she's had more interactions and therefore it should be easier to solve the game if she's lynch ed as an elim than in Drought's case.- 583 replies

Ark wrote the text for this one, but I believe the attribution to him came from the other anon (I'd seen it, and suggested it was dropped, but didn't remove it myself as it wasn't my text). Ark's been a big proponent of adding the primal scream, so I guess there's a certain amount of irony in it being his eulogy as well. Edit: the Emond's fielders are the only ones with an active kill against the creatures. Mat and Lan can kill one if it kills them, but that's it. Killing the green man would remove the kill as well, but that'd only work if they can find the green man.- 583 replies

Just FYI, Ark had identified himself in the fielders doc. I find it just a bit too much of a coincidence that of the possible low-activity players, the elims just happened to pick an Emond's Fielder. Unfortunately, I don't have much of a lead on who the other person remaining in the doc is though. I'm going to place a vote on Brightness Radiant ( @BrightnessRadiant ) Her vote on SnipExe because she wanted to see how Karnatheons vote played out, followed by her backpedaling on reading him as an elim if SnipExe flipped village once others expressed similar views has got alarm bells ringing with me.- 583 replies

I still don't have a lot of time today, but I'll probably have a couple of small things to say as I look into things that have been bothering me. @BrightnessRadiant, you said the following things during the second SnipExe lynch: In the first post you explain why you think SnipExe was village, but then sue the fact that Karn is pushing hard to change your mind. You state that you hope that seeing how SnipExe flips will help solve the alignment of other people. But then, in your next post you weaken this reason by saying that your main reason for voting snipexe (Karn's push) is NAI if SnipExe flips village, which according to your previous post you think was likely to happen. So if that's the case, why did you proceed to keep your vote on SnipExe anyway?- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I didn't do the exact math, but just from eye-balling it knowing the exact number of defense actions could theoretically allow for us to determine a rough amount of sabotage actions submitted, which in turn would allow us to determine the maximum amount of elims within the 5 people that lost their vote (assuming the elims wouldn't be submitting defense actions). However, since we don't know the exact number of effective defense actions, only that it's more than 6 we also can't calculate the number of sabotage actions submitted, which means that theoretically speaking, all 5 of the people that lost their vote could have been trying to sabotage. Basically, if we knew the exact number of effective defense actions we could have asked for everyone that defended to claim, and it'd be fairly obvious when the elims where slipping in their own names as having defended when they didn't because you'd end up with too many claimed defense actions. Right now there's no way to tell.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Since the ring took no damage, there where at least 6 effective defense actions submitted, but there could be more. This actually makes me wish the ring had fallen,as the ridiculous amount of lost votes combined with knowing the exact amount of defense would have allowed for some hard-clearing, or at least narrowing a group down to '1-2 elims in these 7, no more than that'. The one risk tot his kind of analysis is that it'll highlight everyone that didn't submit a defense action, which includes Rand and potentially Moiraine because they've got special day actions. @Ookla the White-Cloaked remind me, could any of the named elim roles submit a sabotage action (either naturally, or because they could also have the 'agent of the blight' role)? Edit: Important PSA: Tired!Randuir is cranky and prone to gut-votes. He is not smart. Don't follow tired!randuir's lead!- 583 replies

Hmmm, I wish I was awake enough to stick around for another hour or so to watch things develop, but that's unfortunately not really an option. I'm actually really tempted to throw a vote on Metaterminal. If you genuinely vote on someone with as much posts as Fura, it shouldn't be that hard to outline some reasons for your suspicion, rather than sheeping someone else. I really wish more of the discussion happened earlier so I could actually participate and make an informed vote based on that. Ugh, Rathmaskal, Metaterminal This is in part a protest against seemingly low-effort posting like that (which we've had way too much of this game)and a poke to share more of your own thoughts (which we've had way too little of), and partly actual suspicion that Metaterminal is an elim riding the coat-tails of a well-reasoned argument against a villager. And that's it from me for this cycle. I really hope to see more people participate in the first half of the next day-cycle.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It's actually lack of efficiency I noted. Like, you've made 11 posts before this cycle, but only one of them was really a content-heavy post, and all the others where either short responses, your initial poke vote and retraction on Xino and other things that said absolutely nothing about your alignment or your thoughts on the game. I've seen you contribute heavily on the village side before, so this stood out to me. If you could get 1 or 2 more big posts like the one above up, i think I'd get a far better feel for you then I currently do, as I admit part of the reason I'm suspicious of you is just that there's far less for me to look at than I'm used to in your case. (I don't generally feel like correcting grammar when quoting people, but I definitely feel like going back and fixing the sentences I've butchered after having been quoted) I kinda want to talk about BR as well, but I really want to see how she starts today off first. @BrightnessRadiant, you said that you wanted to see the SnipExe lynch because you hoped to draw conclusions on a lot of people based on the outcome. Can you share some of those already?- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well then, Let's get down to some analysis. I'll mostly be picking up where I left off last time (about halfway through D2). Mr. Doctor (village-y) Could you explain a bit more about what you meant when you said that you'd become desensitized to lynching inactives? Overall I really liked that post though as it showed some clear progression of thought on a me, Karnatheon and SnipExe without feeling sanitized. Mr. Doctor was actually showing his thought process, warts and all, instead of showing his conclusion and hiding how he reached it and how his opinion shifted. If he ends up being an elim he deserves some congratulations for faking a post like that. That post did leave a potential line of attack open for him that I'd have expected elim!doc to use by now (he concluded that village!snipExe would mean that there's a better chance of elim!karn and/or randuir!karn), which looks good as well. An elim could have easily followed that train of thought and used it as justification this cycle, but Mr. Doctor seems to be throwing a wide net in his search for the elims rather than focusing one one player or thread, which speaks well for him. Furami (neutral) That's a rather specific thing to say, especially because it wouldn't be all that bad a tactic for denying the village useful information from your choice of kills IN all seriousness though, I'm starting to grow some doubts about them. They've voted for Droughtbringer twice, someone that at the time of his second vote still only had 1 no-info post. That was a fairly safe place for an elim to park their vote without risking either discussion or being on a mis-lynch as a lynch against a fully inactive was fairly unlikely to take off. He also made a fairly good case against me, but then didn't follow up this turn and I don't really see why he decided to pick doctor for his vote instead of me. On the other side of the scale there's his heavy investment in doing all the math around the rings and theorycrafting the best orders for defense, which certainly makes him look like he's heavily invested in the game, but ti doesn't really help us find elims. I'm going to keep an eye on him for now, but I'm not really feeling as good about him as I did earlier in the game. Karnatheon (Village) First of all, I'm surprised. You're from the USA according to your profile, but you didn't recognize that the Fielders message from N1 was the Declaration of independence slightly edited to fit in world? I thought everyone over in the states had to be able to recite the entire text from memory? Honestly, if I had to point at one player that I'd be nearly 100% sure was village, it'd be Karn. The funny thing is that there's a bunch of posts by him that I'd consider suspicious on a player with a couple of games under their belt but that come across as actually genuine (in particular the worry about being lynched that he keeps bringing up. 'On a more experienced player it'd look like hidden protestations of innocence, but it looks genuine coming from him). So yeah, overall I hope he'll keep looking into the game and sticking his neck out to bring us stuff like his reasons for voting SnipExe, because those are really good finds, even if it didn't work out this time around. I'll post about BR and Rathmaskal (and hopefully others) later, but I'd prefer to see them post for this cycle first. Edit: A question I'd like to ask everyone, but especially those that don't have much time for analysis right now: Which person do you think is most likely to be village, and which do you think is most likely to be an elim?- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I agree with Furami that Xinoeph is an interesting choice. It's clearly a kill designed to deny the village information, but there can be a couple of other motives involved as well. First of all, with a relatively small core of highly active villagers, killing within this group would badly reduce the overall activity of the game, which some players would avoid on principle when playing an elim. There's also the possibility that there are a number of elims among the highly active players, and these elims want to keep other actives around to allow them to hide within this group. I'm going to put an early vote on Rathmaskal, because I'm suspicious of the overall low content to posts ratio coming from him. Chances are I might change this later as I'm going to do a review of Karn, Furami, mr. Doctor, and BR. @Ookla the Ring, what's so interesting about me using the Emond's fielders message to confirm I wasn't making things up about Devotary?- 583 replies

@Amanuensis, did you take into account that the sabotage action also has the vote negation possibility? Your point about vote negation was something I'd missed, but since an elim can lose their vote through their anti-defense action, it doesn't really prove anything.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Anyway, let's take a quick look at the SnipExe train from yesterday. The first vote was made by karnatheon. A that point ARk, Drought, BR, Rathmaskal and young bard all had 1 vote, so the lynch was still wide open. Karnatheon also provided a pretty good reason for his vote, though it should be noted that the elims could have refrained from killing snipexe the way he described precisely so that the argument that larnatheon made could be made. I doubt elim!Karnatheon would have brought it up unless an elim was at risk of being lynched, because the elims could have easily used the trick he described to kill SnipExe anyway if no one lynched him. The next one was Mr. Doctor. At that point, Rathmaskal was in the lead with two votes, and mr. doctors vote tied the lynch. Mr. doctor had also already previously listed suspicions of SnipExe. The next to vote was BR, who had previously been the second vote on Rathmaskal. I understand her reasons as well, but her particular brand of reasoning could also be sued by an elim to set up a logical train of lynches. Rathmaskal was the 4th, but apparently he was making the vote at the same time as BR. It seems like a pure self-preservation vote, which I don't like but isn't particularly alignment indicative. Mark was the last one, and his vote bothers me a bit. He seemed to have been somewhat supportive of SnipExe lynch from the get-go, but only jumps on the bandwagon at the last minute. There's a couple of conclusions I can make based of this. First of all, if Rathmaskal is evil, BR is probably village and vice-versa (but they could both be village) because of the way she first put Rathmaskal in the lead and then later moved her vote off him to go after SnipExe instead. Secondly, if one of Rathmaskal and Mr. Doctor is evil, I'd be more suspicious of the other, though I'd be more suspicious of Rathmaskal if mr. docotor flipped evil than the other way around.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Regarding my theory about Devotaries death, I'm in the Emond's field doc myself. I'm not too worried about sharing this as I suspect at least one person in the doc is evil, and I haven't really been hiding my identity in the doc. Devotary was one of the most active people in the doc, and was very clearly either Devotary or Furami. With his death, that doc has basically gone silent, so my current running theory is that the elims targeted him not just because he was fairly active, but because he was the driving force behind a doc that has a fairly useful power for the village. @Furamirionind, there's a difference between wanting to resolve someone's alignment, and being suspicious (for example, if Aman had been more active, I'd give my character's right arm to know his alignment, preferably without having to get rid of Aman). I decided to not vote on snipExe today (and would have if I'd been online to see the end-of-cycle discussion, especially Karn's point about Fain) because I wanted to see a bit more from them. I ended up settling on Rathmaskal because he'd been showing similar behaviour as to what made me vote on SnipExe. I also think that he'd definitely be asking for protection if he was an elim and had access to the warrior doc. Things didn't look good for him, and a successful WGG could have turned things around if he'd been an elim. As for the numbers, it plays into my Theory for Devotary, but basically what you posted matched what Devotary had written in the Emond's field Doc (showing the exact calculations and all, so I did actually check it), and let me to initially assume you where in the Emond's field doc.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches

It's not a gigantic mistake, but it's also kinda NAI right now. Maybe you got redirected. Maybe the elims didn't submit a redirect action so you, as elim!Furami, could safely claim to be redirected. Assuming you're speaking the truth, I don't think there's much point to redirecting you to SnipExe, apart from trying to somehow make you wonder about why they picked him in the first place. Unless the Elims forgot to ask whether you'd be told to who you got redirected, and redirected you to one of their own so they use the redirect as a scan for Moraine. Hmmm, this requires some more thinking about, and makes me want to resolve SnipExe's slot even more. This'll be my last post for the day, as I need to get some early rest. I'm debating between voting for SnipExe once again and throwing a vote at Rathmaskal, because I know that rathmaskal is capable of contributing more than he has so far and his contributions so far are of the type that would make him appear active and contributing at a quick glance. I'm going to go with Rathmaskal this time around, as hopefully it'll cause him to contribute more so I can get a proper read on him, but unless I see some kind of confirmation that SnipExe is indeed a warrior, or someone gives me a good reason why it would be bad for a second warrior to reveal themselves to provide this confirmation, I'll probably vote on him sometime soon again. Edit: SnipExe ninjas me. Snipexe, you say there's 5 warriors and you suspect 6 fielders, but also that you agree with Devotary's guess of 4 in each doc. Which of the two is it? In all seriousness though, seeing people post stuff like this is helpful. If nothing else it gives me insight into how they're approaching the game, which helps with figuring out what their alignment is. I've got an alternate theory of why Devotary got killed, but unfortunately that will have to wait till the night cycle.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
DeTess replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Allright, let's see if I can quickly go through everyone's posts before this day is done. Edit: nope, didn't manage to do this quickly. Steeldancer (Big Shrug) Three posts, all of which where some variation on 'I can't really contribute yet'. I really hope tos ee more from him soon. Karnatheon (slight village) I'm still leaning village on Karatheon. A lot of his posts suggest 'observant new player' to me. He's made some good points and is generally involved in analysis, though he's focused mostly on the rules so far. That's fine in a game like this, but I expect him to start looking more at people soon. I've mentioned one of his first posts before as looking really village, and some of his posts to day feel similar to me. In particular I'd have expected his responses today to have been more calm and emasured if he actually ahd the safety net of an active elim team to back him up Cadmium Compounder (Bigger Shrug) Same general story as steeldancer, with one less post. xinoehp512 (biggest shrug) Xinoeph hasn't even really posted a 'sorry, I can't be active yet', which bothers me a bit. Not in an elimy way, exactly, but it'd be nice to know when we can expect to ehar more from him. Amanuensis (Shrug that's even bigger than the one for Xinoeph) Normally at this point in a game Amanuensis will have about 4000 words of analysis and RP (each, not combined ) posted. Still, that's not particularly alignment indicative. Droughtbringer (Come on guys, be more active!) Drought, have you managed to read the rules yet? Anything of interest in there that you can share with us? Rathmaskal (yes, more active than that!) Hasn't really been any more active than any of the other people I've mentioned so far except Karnatheon. He did get a poke vote ion, but that's not a particularly high-effort action. If anything, it makes me slightly suspicious of him, as it could be something that's done to appear active and have an easy scapegoat to lynch. I really hope to see more from him soon though. Young Bard (slightly village) Only two posts, but one of it contains some actual game thoughts, which is nice. Going after BR like that suggests he's doing a close reading of the game, rather than going after low-hanging fruit, which makes me lean slightly village on him Mark IV (neutral) First, to answer his question about BR; It's been a while since I played with her as well, but iirc she's always quite vocal, irrespective of her current understanding of the rules. Like Young Bard, Mark appears to be hunting for elims. However, his comments tot hat regard feel more like picking low-hanging fruit. He only went after BR after young bard pointed her out, and his suspicion of Karnatheon lacked teeth. He didn't really push further to try and figure out whether his suspicions had merit after the initial exchange. I'm not actively suspicious of Mark, but I'm not seeing him as being particularly village-y either right now). Snipexe (slight elim) My position on Snipexe remains unchanged, and I hope to hear more from either him or another warrior confirming his presence in the doc soon (and his current vote is something something pot and kettle). Furamirionind (Village) Furami's been doing a lot of strategizing and calculating based on the various rings and damage progression, which first and foremost speaks for effort made and time invested. This doesn't confirm him as village (as the things he's been looking into would be of some value to the elims as well), but it does suggest a high level of engagement with the game. He's also not limited himself to just talking about the rules, which could be used to pretend to be active while not really trying to find the elims, but he's been lookign at the various players as well. village read for now Hemalurgic Headshot HH only checked in, no real posts yet. Ark1002 His comment about the Xinoeph vote suggests that he's at least following along, but that's about it. In some ways, this worries me more than thsoe that seem to be not following along, as Ark's apparently not (mostly) inactive. STINK Computer broke, isn't too active because of that. Nothing else to be said except that I hope that his computer will be fixed soon. MetaTerminal (neutral) I don't have too much to say about metaterminal either, but for a change that isn't because his posts don't have any real content. His vote on bard did at least have some explanation behind it, though it was a fairly easy shot, and encouraging others to vote is always a good thing, though not necessarily alignment indicative. BrightnessRadiant (Neutral) I actually like seeing BR's progression of thought from her second to her third post on my vote on SnipExe. It makes sense and seems logical to me why her stance shifted. I also don't see why elim!BR would have felt a particular need to go fro SnipExe over Bard (unless they're team-mates). Overall though there's a lof of psots by her wiht very little actual content, which bother me a bit. I'm keeping her at neutral so far and will be keeping an eye on her. Mr Doctor (neutral) Good activity as usual from our Not-Dragon-Reborn Doctor. Believes that there are less more Elims than what Furami and I have theorised, which only stands out to me because in my (very few) Elim games I like to make the Village underestimate the number of Elims. So far he’s been helpful, but he’s like that even when he’s evil. For now I’ll give randuir Doctor a free pass because he’s hard to read and always helpful. (all kidding aside, I've seen mr Doctor at work in his first game in which he and I where both elims. He's at least as sneaky as he'd have you believe I am) So overall conclusion: A lot of people need to do a lot more posting, and in particular I'd like to see some analysis from SnipExe, as otherwise chances are that's where my vote will land again.- 583 replies

You should defend yourself when there's something to defend against. In this case you'd said everything that needed to be said in your first post in response to mark. The post after that that I quoted felt slightly desperate and all-over-the-place to me, which is why I pointed it out (it could be summarized as "I can see why an elim might say what I did, but I'm totally not an elim guys! Also, this is my first game, but that shouldn't influence you but I'm mentioning it anyway."). Personally, I've always found that the best defense is a good offense, irrespective of my alignment. Refute the parts that you can refute in suspicions against you, and then start looking for a better lynch target.- 583 replies

Then are you currently being a new player worried about all the attention they're getting, or an elim about to crack under the suspicion? Don't worry to much, if either me or Mark thought the one comment would be enough to lynch you for, we'd already have been voting on you. A response like this one will only proceed to dig you in deeper, which actually makes me suspect that you're either village, or have a very inactive elim team, as they could have told you this. It could be different in other people's experience, but elim teams tend to be rather helpful to new players in their team with providing them with some dos and don'ts.- 583 replies
