  1. Oops, just realised I've been quite inactive. Suspiciously, for the same amount of time QF15 was up... hmm. So I've learnt that I'm not amazing at playing more than one game at once, though I was expecting to be killed much earlier. Nyali, I don't actually have any role actions, so whatever made you think I had one, or even two, is wrong. Currently we have 12 alive players, and last I checked the eliminator team was estimated to be 5/6 people, so there's going to be a large eliminator presence. When I get home tonight, I'm going to read through the rest of the game and have a look at the posts of the rest of the players, and see if I find anything suspicious.
  2. I know he tried to become an Elantrian, but was it definitely this method he tried (I haven't read that section unfortunately)?
  3. I just found this incredibly similar post as well. They're not perfectly identical, so I'm going to leave this topic here, but yeah.
  4. So with recent revelations regarding the way Elantrians gain their power (it's to do with a bond with something which I am pretty sure is a cognitive manifestation of the nations/cities of Sel - it also has something to do with the personification of culture to some extent), I've had an idea on how one could hack the AonDor and turn anyone into an Elantrian (something I'm sure Hoid would be interested in). The idea is based around something revealed in Bands of Mourning, that is, the use of medallions as unkeyed Feruchemical metalminds. In Bands of Mourning, we see the Southern Scadrians using a connection medallion to give them connection to the land around them, letting them speak the language. On the assumption (making this not an overly strong theory, but one I find interesting at least) that bonds with Arelon are formed by having a large connection with the land in some way (something definitely seen with Raoden, Karato and several others), it would then be possible to use these medallions to gain this bond. One would simply take a Connection metalmind filled to the brink, then activate it in a short burst whilst in Arelon (or to be safe, Elantris) and in a few instants gain a massive connection with Arelon, which would trigger a bond to form between the Cognitive Arelon (or the semi-sentient investiture/splinter attached to it), making the user an Elantrian. I don't know whether this bond would stay in place after the connection had gone (it is possible that the bond only exists as long as the connection is strong), but hopefully it would. So, to summarise the above: Visit Southern Scadrial Obtain Connection Medallion Spend a lot of time filling it up Visit Elantris Activate Connection Medallion and drain all the connection instantly Form Bond with Arelon Become Elantrian Thoughts?
  5. Bit of a late addition, I know, but I think my view on it hasn't been raised by anyone else. As far as I see it, the sacrifice itself isn't a cost as much as it's a side-effect of what's actually going on. What I suppose is actually going on is something that was also seen in Mistborn with Vin, when she uses the mists. She uses so much investiture that it tears apart her body, destroying her physical aspect and leaving her a purely cognitive being. I think something similar is happening here with the Dakhor monks. The monk that is to be sacrificed allows the Dor to flow through them with a ridiculous amount of power, so much so that the investiture itself destroys their body in the process of transporting the other people, resulting in their apparent death. It's very possible that these monks go on to become cognitive entities, though I think that with the state of Sel's Cognitive Realm, they might not last very long.
  6. Had another idea about how to hack the Dor for interstellar usage. Say you had a ship, and all the inhabitants of that, ship considered that ship a part of Arelon, would that ship's cognitive aspect be a part of Arelon's cognitive aspect, thy providing the proximity needed to use the AonDor. Perhaps you could have multination ship with parts dedicated to each nation, to allow Dor uses to continue to use their magic across the cosmere during the space era.
  7. Maybe fiddling with the gem on the end of the shardblade would change the bond enough to get the bond to function enough with oaths I think it's more likely now that Shardblade holders don't actually bond the dead spren, but instead have some sort of connection with the gem which has a connection with the blade.
  8. Did you mean Roshar/Some other world instead of Del for the first instance?
  9. Do we know if Seon bonds grant anything to the human participant whilst on Sel? And also what happens to an unbonded Seon?
  10. This would make sense for Raoden, we all know how much he loved Arelon and how much the people of Arelon loved him. Also, in New Elantris, almost everyone had some role that was very useful to helping everyone in some way, from being a cleaner, to a guard, to a carver, to a teacher etc. and everyone, before being sent to Elantris, had used their skills to help others in some way, or just benefit Arelon. (I think this is all right and that I'm not just rationalising it, but it would make sense). A question I'd raise is whether the Dakhor system is based on Devotion or Domination (or both). It seems quite easy to say Domination, just because of the way Fjorden and Shu-Dereth is, but the process of becoming a Dakhor monk and gaining access to their magic requires incredible amounts of dedication and devotion to Shu-Dereth and to the monastery (remember the one monk sacrificing his life so that someone else could teleport a 15 minute walking distance? Yeah.)
  11. Perhaps the highly cognitive aspects of the different places on Sel are why the Cognitive Realm is so dangerous there, and why it's so hard to worldhop therefrom. Also, if this is Elantrians forming a bond with Arelon, if they managed to take some of the cognitive aspect of Arelon (don't ask me how) with them to Roshar, would this grant them Surgebinder-like powers as opposed to being able to use Aons? We know that Seons grant powers when on Roshar, as they act like the Nahel bond, so I don't see why the bond with Arelon wouldn't do the same. Which brings up another idea. Seons have Aons in the centre (do we know if there are any Seons with things other than Aons at the centre? We know they're shards of Devotion, so it could be possible that other nations on Sel have their own Seons using their own forms, maybe?) which means they're associated with Arelon and the AonDor. Could it be that having a bond with a Seon could extend the range at which AonDor could be used by an Elantrian? To be fair, that seems like a bit of a stretch, so I wouldn't count on it, but it would be interesting.
  12. Currently reading Knife of Dreams, time I finished The Wheel of Time. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get hooked on it properly, so I'm still reading it in really small doses. Hoping that I can actually get hooked soon, because else I don't see this as being wonderfully interesting. That series seems really, really interesting.
  13. Hmm. So far we've seen bonds between purely cognitive entities (spren) and physical entities with a strong cognitive element (nightblood). Supposing Elantris had a strong cognitive element, I don't set why it couldn't bond with someone.
  14. Assuming this is true for a moment, Brandon has said that there's a way to hack AonDor to work wherever. I'm wondering if that way would be something like taking a fragment of the Elantris wall with them something.
  15. Don't lynch Joe. Having him alive means we know who the holder is and will force Ryuk to waste a kill if they want to be secret again. I'd like to say I saw this last night, but damnation I thought they were both in on it. Sorry for not being up and able to countervote everyone.
  16. Giving the Atium to the Kandra meant that it wouldn't need to be destroyed every couple hundred to a thousand years. It doesn't seem like a lot of work, but in the scale of an empire that was looking to last hundreds of thousands of years, it adds up. In addition, the mines spread the Atium out which meant it could act as a distraction for Ruin. It was also a pretty good punishment in terms of controlling people.
