  1. Elantris took place a LONG time before SA.
  2. Second and third cousins don’t see themselves as family? Since when? Not in my family! We find one common relative in the past history, however distant, and we’re family!
  3. I don’t think he can be ace because of how mateform is implied to work. Listeners/Singers are always ace EXCEPT when in mateform. In mateform they essentially get blasted with “have sex and procreate” hormones. They aren’t human, and their bodies and hormones don’t work like humans. So yes, he’s probably gay. At least, that was my reading of it.
  4. I don’t think I’m allowed to post this in the fan creations section yet (if I’m wrong, let me know) so I’m posting it here. And yes, I would like feedback. (I forgot you need to say that now.) The Queen’s Wit lounges at the the far end of the table, his dark hair framing his sharp, pale features and unnaturally blue eyes. On his lap is a lute, which he plucks with a languid hand. The other rests on the arm of his chair, beside his Spren, Design. He has many names, this Wit, acquired over his long years. Midius, Hoid, Cephandrius, Topaz, Dust, Wit, among many others, including the one coined by the man at the table’s other end: Drifter. The Survivor’s chair is tilted back, his feet resting on the table, the edges of his mist cloak just brushing the floor. He holds a pastry in one scarred hand and the other bent behind his head. Blond hair falls about his face, half obscuring the spike impaling his right eye. The other is focused on his opponent, it’s sharpness belying his relaxed demeanor. The Survivor counts barely above three centuries to his life, yet he has begun to acquire as many titles as the Wit has names. Survivor, Sovereign, Lord of the Mists, Lord of Scars, Thaidakar. The last being the source of the present dispute. The third member of the party, there to mediate, clears his throat. Frost’s appearance is that of a wizened old man. Appearances, of course, are entirely deceptive, for Frost is not a man. “We may begin,” he says now. “Who will speak first?” The Survivor takes a bite from his pastry, chewing loudly. He smirks as he lightly inclines his head to his opponent. The Wit refuses to be baited, plucking out a discordant, yet somehow harmonious, rhythm as he begins to speak. “Lord of Scars,” he says, his tone wry, “unless you want me coming over to slap you around - again - I‘d advise you to do the Cosmere a favor and stick to meddling on your own world. I’m certain they’ll be happy to worship you for it.” The Survivor swallows, and smirks, a dangerous gleam in his hazel eye. “Tell me Drifter: ever considered taking your own advice? Because from where I’m sitting, it’s just the ash-pot calling the kettle black.” ”If I may,” Frost interrupts, knowing too well where this will likely lead, “perhaps neither of you should be interfering at all.” For the first - and last - time in the history of the Cosmere, Hoid and Kelsier found themselves in complete agreement. The Dragon was obviously insane. Hoid has no moral ground to tell ANYONE in the Cosmere not to interfere, even if other people (cough...Kell...cough) shouldn’t be.
  5. In TFE we have this statement: His mother had been a resourceful mistress of a high nobleman, a clever woman who had managed to hide the fact that she was skaa from her lord. Kell and Marsh’s father was a member of the High Nobility. We know of only ten High Noble houses, and the indication is that most of them had held their positions for awhile. So, which one of the ten do you think Marsh and Kell were born to?
  6. He’s indicated that Prudence may be a Shard name though, and they would be two very different things.
  7. Doesn’t microkinesis allow for nuclear blasts?
  8. Social Darwinism.
  9. I wasn’t disagreeing with that part. I meant where you said that it annoyed you how often people acted surprised at what Maya could do. If I had a dollar for every idiot doctor who told me any of the following: She won’t breathe on her own She won’t eat/drink by mouth She can’t swallow She doesn’t recognize you She’ll never smile etc. I would be VERY rich. And then she went ahead and did all those things. If I told them she grabbed a cracker the other day, or has begun occasionally saying words they wouldn’t believe me either, then act completely shocked when she does it in front of them. So the reactions of the various people around Adolin was actually very accurate and reflective of the RL reactions and frustrations.
  10. I figure what he meant was, “We will pay you in rare Cosmere artifacts.” Like White Sand.
  11. T shows up as himself for the contest. If D kills T, T wins the contest of ideologies. If D refuses to kill T then... T still wins the contest of ideologies, as that makes this a draw, allowing the war to continue. If Dalinar surrenders, allowing T to kill him, then he WINS the contest of ideologies- and per their previously existing agreement EVERYTHING is now at an end. Including Odium’s bonding. Yeah, that works.
  12. This reminds me a lot of Ruin’s “I am free!” at the end of WoA. HoA has the whole world brought to the brink of destruction and back, so I can totally see that level of destruction and MC deaths happen here.
  13. I completely disagree about the comments people keep making about Maya. As the mother of a child with severe cognitive delays, I can tell you that this is EXACTLY how people react - when they aren’t trying to convince me that she isn’t capable of acting of her own volition. Maybe you’re the rare individual who treats children like mine as people; sadly, most humans seem to struggle to see children like my girl as individuals. So yes, it may be irritating, but is completely true to life. Those scenes were my favorites due to how deeply they resonated with my own experiences.
  14. This makes sense for another reason: even if Dalinar kills T, T wins. Why? Because he proved his point. The contest is ‘to the death’ but the contest itself was never specified. But T and Dalinar have a PREEXISTING contest that is still ongoing and has yet to be resolved. And they also have a preexisting agreement that if Dalinar turns out to be right everything will be over. So if T himself fights... well, a) the contest won’t be what Dalinar expects and b)win or lose, T gets a victory.
  15. Some Worldhoppers do time compression things, so Felt may not be quite as old as Kell despite having been born around the same time.
  16. Invention has very little to do with Wisdom or Prudence. If it was, we wouldn’t have all the RL problems that resulted from it.
  17. Lightweaving has a Yolish equivalent.
  18. True. And it is funny to imagine. I just see Kell grinning at Saze in that infuriating way of his going, “Would have thought you’d learned by now; there’s always another secret, Saze.”
  19. I doubt he’d run. Saze’s personal belief system doesn’t allow him to intervene, though he disapproves of what Kell’s been doing. I’ve been looking at the timeline of when the books were written and I’m really curious as to when Brandon decided on Thaidakar’s identity.
  20. It should, based on how Cosmere healing works. Also, he has his scars.
  21. Or he just repurposed a pre-existing myth, as that was easier than creating a new one. The real reason it doesn’t work is because the North will figure it out as soon as they get a proper physical description from the South.
  22. Put it in the earring hole and burn it from there?
  23. For WoR leather bound in a few years or W&W. And there are sometimes Kickstarters for other things. I joined this one for Dawnshard. Last one I joined was for MB coins.
  24. It’s a type of character seen in Regency stories. Very well dressed, but not dandies, and very into sport, but not to the extent of ... a group whose name I’m forgetting. They actually existed IRL, but the character archetype is based more Georgette Heyer’s writing than the RL versions. Since SA is not a Regency Romance, Adolin stands out as being the type of character who usually wouldn’t be in this genre. I don’t think I’ve seen a Corinthian played so straight outside the Regency before, actually.
  25. Adolin is actually a character in the wrong genre. He’s a Corinthian, and it’s rare you’ll find that type of character outside of Regency period stories.
