Guess that Cosmere reference!
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Bearer of all agonies's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I found the quote... it’s “mistwraiths, sprites, and brollins and such.” You misquoted. (I cheated to find it, but the quote sounded wrong. Besides, someone already got it.)- 123 replies

Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Kidpen's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Wax is my guess, though his love triangle is weird. (He was never into one corner, then the other was his not-so-dead wife...) And I guess steel counts as a recurring physiological need. -
If you held Szeth's oathstone, what would you do?

I’d order him to act as though no one held the Oathstone. Ie. Do whatever you want. You’re FREEEEEEE! -

Nope. אִם אֵין אֲנִי לִי, מִי לִי. וּכְשֶׁאֲנִי לְעַצְמִי, מָה אֲנִי. וְאִם לֹא עַכְשָׁיו, אֵימָתַי: If I am not for me, who will be for me? And when I am for myself alone, what am I? And if not now, then when? TPBM has read the Belgariad. (And if they haven’t, they should!) -

Shallan is even more cringe than before
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Atlas's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Kell would be more upset at the whole situation that LED to them fighting. And would probably apologize for Mraize’s behavior, explain that since he can’t/couldn’t leave Scadrial he has to rely on his crew members to get things done without proper supervision, and then offer to try and make amends. Within a year Shallan is considering getting a GB tattoo and wondering what happened. Radiant is unamused. Kell is very persuasive, very manipulative, and his force of character is enough to bowl most people over. Radiant is a much harder sell than Shallan though and Kell knows better than to try to overtly manipulate her. She doesn’t like him much, though she probably would come to respect him some. Not enough to ever join him. Not enough to stop wishing she could just remove his head from his shoulders... or, at least, shut him up permanently. (Radiant wants to know what Moiraine did and how to replicate it.) Kell’s fine with that. He likes Radiant a lot and she’s good for Shallan. Whom he also likes. -
I agree with literally all of this. I HATED Navani bonding the Sibling.

This is just so offensive. It is Dissociative Identity Disorder, which is most definitely NOT schizophrenia. It does exist, and can manifest differently in different people. And Shallan was a remarkable depiction of it. There are people on this forum with DID, who have described how much they could relate to Shallan’s experiences. We literally looked at the pictures of someone with DID today in class, and I knew her diagnosis immediately due in large part to having just finished RoW. The way the artist described her experiences was remarkably similar to the what happens with Shallan. It seems to me that you only care for the mental illness you have being portrayed, while having no patience for others.

Agreed. I want those two to meet! -
We didn’t see his thoughts at all; we only saw Kaladin’s. We have no idea how Lirin interacted with Tien outside of Kaladin’s memories. The flashbacks focused on Kaladin’s relationships, not Lirin’s. Honestly, you could say the same for Hesina’s interactions with Tien. Kaladin didn’t see much of those, so OBVIOUSLY they didn’t happen, right? And apparently Hesina and Lirin didn’t talk much during Kal’s childhood.

But that has very little to do with Cultivation’s thoughts, even if you’re correct. Two conflicting opinions by people who respect one another is more likely to stimulate growth than one opinion. Dalinar and Taravangian rubbing against one another is more likely to inspire growth, especially if they can work WITH one another toward a common goal. I disagree with you completely BTW. T is does NOT have NPD. A narcissist would be incapable of doing the things T has done. A Narcissist must have at least five of the following: A grandiose sense of self-importance (This) (K) A preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love (no) (K, possibly) A belief that he or she is special and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people or institutions (only due to magic, which doesn’t count.) A need for excessive admiration (very much not) (K) A sense of entitlement (again, no) (K, possibly) Interpersonally exploitive behavior (questionable; he is exploitive but not on an interpersonal level) (K) A lack of empathy (only due to magic, which doesn’t count) (K) Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her (nope) A demonstration of arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes (yes) (K) In a proposed alternative model cited in DSM-5, NPD is characterized by moderate or greater impairment in personality functioning, manifested by characteristic difficulties in 2 or more of the following 4 areas [2] : Identity (he has a strong sense of self even on his stupidest days; no this isn’t an issue.) Self-direction (this is seriously not his issue) (K, arguably) Empathy (only due to magic) (K) Intimacy (No problems) In addition, NPD is characterized by the presence of both grandiosity and attention seeking. (Nope to both) (K, 100%) Taravangian is many things, but a narcissist he is NOT. He gets 2.5 of the traits, none of the four, and lacks the Grandiose/attention seeking element entirely. He’s worse because he DOES care... and he does what he does ANYWAY. Kelsier might be a narcissist; I used him for comparison. He certainly has more of the elements of it (more so than ASPD, btw.) I put a K by the ones that fit him. He gets 5 easily, and I can argue two more. He gets one of the four, possibly 2 (prior to the Pits he really had no long term goals.) Grandiose and attention seeking is a very accurate description of him.

Everything AWESOME about ROW
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Truthwatcher at the Rim's topic in Stormlight Archive
Adolin and Maya during the trip through Shadesmar. From my Reddit post: Brandon: As a mother of a child with severe cognitive delays, I want to tell you thank you. Thank you for the scenes of Adolin and Maya. Thank you for showing his belief in her and her understanding. Because the doctors told me my big girl would never be capable of anything. Would never know or understand the world. Just like all the Spren told Adolin. But she smiles when she sees me and her big brother. And she has a rivalry with her little sister. And today she lifted her hand onto her crackers because she wanted one. And, God willing, someday she’ll speak up for herself, like Maya got to do. Until then, and even after, we’ll be like Adolin, giving her our strength so she can find her own. Everyone here talks about how well you portray mental illness. But no one talks about how well you portray what it’s like to have a child with cognitive disabilities; the hopes and the struggles, and the wonder in the smallest acts. So thank you for showing it here in Rhythm of War- 56 replies

No, Ishar is definitely not using ‘atrium.’ He was being very uninviting actually. Didn’t even let them in his front door.

A Dumb Idea that Seems WAY too Feasible
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Karger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It is on Scadrial! Rest of the Cosmere: You wear... tin foil hats... Scadrians: No, aluminum foil. It protects from mind control! Rest of the Cosmere: (rapidly backsteps) Oookaaay then... Assuming they don’t know about Brass/Zinc, that is. Aluminum seems to block everything, so it probably could block Connection. Odds are this would be lethal for the Heralds, who seem to need the constant Connection to maintain their existence. The Heralds need a way to become self-sustaining. It probably would work for Kell, but he wouldn’t be able to leave the box as his ‘tether’ would immediately drag him back to Scadrial. He needs a way to cut the tether without damaging himself. Unlike the Heralds, he’s a Sliver and is self-sustaining. He’s actually much closer to a Spren than they are. -
A Dumb Idea that Seems WAY too Feasible
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Karger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It probably works with the gemstones. It may work with Spren and Seons. We can be pretty sure it doesn’t work with CSs, or Kell would have tried it already. -
The only person we’ve seen give up the power and continue existing is Kelsier, and he was already a CS. So we really don’t know.

The problem is that Brandon ALSO does this intentionally very often. In Mistborn the epigraphs didn’t match the words in Sazed’s copy. And that was important. A handful of inconsistencies there turned out to be Kell playing around behind the scenes in HoA. (Also in WoA, but those ended up not working.) Odds are the same will be true of Era 3. So if an author has a history of using minor in-world inconsistencies to hint at big plot twists, I’m going to be suspicious. I would like to know if it came up in beta though.

RoW spoilers are only allowed on the RoW board. I don’t think they’re allowed here even with spoiler tags yet.
