Endowment, probably. It sounds like a powerful Shard, and I like the idea of Investing people and watching all the craziness they get up to.

I’m a Forger now! This means I have to spend years learning and studying soulstamps before I can even start doing anything cool, doesn’t it?

I’d say it would work a whole lot like Compounding, in that the Allomancer would essentially overwrite the metal, creating a ‘new’ Allomantic metal that, when burned, gives the effect of Breath, but powered by Preservation’s Investiture. So the Allomancer would probably get a very strong color aura, and maybe jump a few Heightening temporarily. The effects would vanish, of course, once the metal burned out.

Good theory! That would certainly explain a lot. I’m trying to find out whether Aimians existed before the Shattering, and this WoB says that humans and parshmen did, but nothing about Aimians. So it could be possible. And it’s totally possible that an Aimian could hold a Shard

This topic’s called Consequences of Honor, but I think we should really be looking at the consequences of a lack of honor. Well, a lack of Honor. Let me explain. We all know that Honor was splintered, and that Honor used to have certain ‘checks’ on Surgebinding. These checks, along with Honor himself, are gone after the Splintering. What were these checks, though? I think we may have already seen a few things Honor might not have wanted to happen. Example 1: Kaladin and his magical highstorm-stopping wall. We’ve theorized that this was a use of his Adhesion Surge, maniplulating pressure to divert the highstorm around himself. I do think that is probably true, but the important thing that I noticed was that Syl had never heard of anyone doing that before. It’s a new, scarily powerful thing. Example 2: Unity. Dalinar’s moment of Ascension was awesome, and true, it’s most likely due to his bonding a big piece of Honor’s power, but that doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous. Having a Perpendicularity on call? That’s scary. Example 3: Shallan’s Lightweaved army. She’s still only at her 4th Oath, as far as we know, and it’s surprising she was able to summon that ridiculous number of illusions out of nowhere. It’s a huge power boost from what she used to be at. Also, I’d like to talk about how her illusions had mass, and splattered illusions of blood, too, even though she’s not at all practiced with Soulcasting, which is what she assumed was going on. There might be other examples that I missed, or there might be perfectly reasonable ideas for why these types of powers seem to be new, surprisingly powerful manifestations of Surgebinding. I invite you all to try and tear my theory apart!

[OB] Will Steris get powered up?
Nashan’Elin replied to PrincessMorpheus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hey, you should probably tag this with Oathbringer spoilers, just so people don’t get spoiled unexpectedly. And, maybe Steris will get a powerup. On one hand, I doubt it, because I think she’s good where she is and she is more interesting for being the only powerless one among Wax, Wayne, Marasi, and MeLaan. On the other hand, with how medallions are becoming a part of the books, I could see her getting a few of those and powering up that way.- 3 replies

Why, this doesn’t at all seem like a scheme to get people’s Breath for your own malicious purposes! ”My life to yours, my Breath become yo-“ Wait! This is totally a scheme to get people’s Breath!

Kaladin Stormblessed vs Percy Jackson
Nashan’Elin replied to Housedunn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Since there’s no water on the Shattered Plains, the fight’s kinda over for Percy. Except if there’s a highstorm, now that would be interesting. Lots of water and rain, but also unlimited Stormlight. But I agree with @Foundation, Kaladin could do a Gravitation-smash, and lash him upwards, and then if he wants Lash Percy back down with a good 4 or 5 basic Lashings to send him to the ground at 5 times the force. -
I think it was just that they were training. Unless only 5th level Skybreakers get Plate, which I don’t see as likely. The lack of Plate in this book was an interesting twist. A bunch of people were sure this would be the book that we could put the theories to rest regarding Shardplate, but instead, we got a few hints and a lot of confusion. It was nice, though. More to find out later. Haha, yeah. I bet Shardplate would be quite nice to have there, espeically since Amaram had his own Plate for most of the fight. But hey, if Kaladin can take on a Shardplate-and-Yelig-nar-assisted guy without Plate, just imagine how good he’ll be with it.

[OB] Next target for Moash, Hearthstone?
Nashan’Elin replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
It does feel like Vyre is going to become a huge antagonist in these next books, and I agree that he’ll be much more dangerous than Amaram. Amaram was given Yelig-nar, and that Unmade’s basically a ticking time bomb. Amaram was basically screwed once he swallowed that gemstone, on what amounted to a suicide mission. Vyre, however, has been given an Honorblade and what I assume is an Odiumblade, granting him Surges, the ability to use Stormlight, and the ability to kill Heralds (and maybe break bonds?) Vyre has been made far more dangerous. His role in all this, we don’t know so far. He could become Odium’s champion, or maybe Odium’s assassin. Regardless, I doubt he’s going after Roshone. Remember, Moash is dead. His world, and I bet his grudges, died with him. I’m not saying he wouldn’t kill Roshone if the two were face-to-face, but I don’t think he’ll seek out the man. I bet Vyre’s next target is one of the Heralds, maybe, or he could start up Nale’s old project of killing proto-Radiants. I guess we’ll just have to see. -
(OB) Lightweavers could produce radiation
Nashan’Elin replied to TheMediocreMind's topic in Stormlight Archive
It does make sense that they could, and the only real requirement, like was said above, is the limit on how much Stormlight they have at the time. But with the ability to open a Perpendicularity to access the unlimited Investiture in the Spiritual Realm at any time, these dangers become much more real.- 26 replies

If you were burning, say, tin, and burned duralumin and aluminum, I guess it really depends on which one you burn first. If you burned duralumin, and then an instant later aluminum, you would get a burst of tin that would vanish an instant later. If you burned aluminum first, you wouldn’t have any duralumin or tin to burn. If you burned both, at the same time? I guess you’d get duralumin-boosted aluminum and lose all your metal reserves really quickly.

I, personally, really like the idea of Syladin, and I can understand why people would see it as weird or lessening their bonded relationship, but I personally don’t see it that way. Because of how many people are weirded out by it, I don’t see it as likely for becoming a thing in canon, but that doesn’t bother me too much.

As long as you could get the ettmetal somewhere into your body, you could theoretically burn it, if you were good enough. The problem is, basically all of the inside of your body is wet. So that doesn’t really help. Do we know if you could (if you were very skilled and thinking about it the right way) burn a metal that’s in your mouth, not swallowed? So really dry out your mouth and put some ettmetal in there, maybe.

I don’t have ebooks, so I can’t find quotes right now, but I feel like there were passages in Lift’s appearances, in WoK or Edgedancer, where she has a feeling of a reserve that she can draw on to become awesome, which I took to be (in my uninformed opinion) food in her, though I guess now it’d be stored sugars. It reminds me, almost, of Allomantic metal storages. She draws on this storage, and when it’s gone, she feels hungry (low blood sugar? I don’t really know) and has to eat to get more power.

There were three Unmade chilling in Kholinar at the time, remember, but this doesn’t seem like the work of any of them in particular. Ashertmarn is most likely the source of the weird food, but I thought food did decay on the Oathgate platform. Sja-Anat doesn’t seem like she has a hand in this, except maybe messing with the decayspren? The only other option is that it could be Yelig-Nar, but this doesn’t fit with what we know of him either. I bet it has something to do with the darkness that was over the palace at the time, whichever Unmade created that.

I love how this thread is called “Favorite character in Oathbringer”, but everyone’ saying more than one character, because every character in this book was so storming good. For me, here’s my list (in no particular order): Dalinar: this man’s arc was just SO GOOD, seeing his terrible past, his struggle with the Thrill, with drinking, and with his memories, culminating when all the pain comes back to him and he accepts it? So good. and “I am Unity” was the coolest moment, when he scared off Odium and took down the Thrill. Szeth: I really loved Szeth’s arc in this book. He didn’t get to see much of him for a while, but when we did it was so great. Him learning about the Skybreakers, and swearing the Oaths way faster than probably any other Skybreaker in a long time. Plus his interactions with Nightblood and later Lift made those parts even better. And he just shows up and Dalinar’s like “well, guess the Assassin in White, who killed my brother and nearly killed me, is on our team now. Sure!” Nightblood: my sweet sword child was awesome all throughout, still not really understanding evil, but it tries. And it even ate its fill on Stormlight, something I don’t think we’ve seen before! Just great. Even though it almost ate Szeth and Lift. Adolin: I really enjoyed Adolin’s arc in this book, especially how much over his head he felt, sometimes, surrounded by Radiants, a dad who’s basically a little bit of a Shard, and Voidbringers flying around everywhere. Mixed in with that, though, he was still great, taking everyone to his tailor’s house in Kholinar. And, of course, MAYA! Elhokar: he had basically the best redemption I’ve ever seen, going from WoK when he was the ineffective, whiny king no one really liked, to Oathbringer when he was trying to become a better person, and even starting to become a KR when he was KILLED! HE WAS SWEARING THE FIRST OATH, MOASH! STORM YOU! I have strong feelings about that part. Maya: Honestly, who could forget Mayalaran as a best character in this book? She was awesome! When I first saw her, I just finished Part 3 and I had to leave, cliffhangering myself. But she was great! She tackled a Fused, and told Adolin her name, and came to him in 7 heartbeats! I love her. Kaladin: Let’s get back to the Main Guy himself. Kaladin’s progression in this book felt great, because it was unlike his other progression. It really felt like it would go the same way, with him swearing another Oath and powering up to save the day, but he couldn’t, and I thought that was a very powerful moment. Instead, he grew a lot in this book in other ways, seeing his family, accepting more his place as a Radiant, and trying to blend in with the lighteyes of the wall guard (which was really funny) Syl: we got to learn more about everyone’s favorite honorspren, good old Sylphrena! We got to see more of her past, as the Ancient Daughter, how she was once bonded to a Radiant, and how she’s kind of a runaway and outcast from the rest of the honorspren. Very great to see more of her. Taln: Taln is a beautiful man, and Steeldancer’s just gonna have to share on that one. I get so emotional when reading his one lucid moment, he’s just too good for this world. And everyone I forgot. Rock, Pattern, Lopen, Lift, Wyndle, Ash, and all the rest.
-
Well, I’m working on a theory involving Kaladin’s airbending magic and Dalinar-Honor, but basically I think the power-creep (from an in-world standpoint, not a writing standpoint) is an effect of Honor being dead, and the ‘checks’ he placed on Surgebinding falling apart.

[OB]The Spirit Realm- A Complete Explanation
Nashan’Elin replied to Steeldancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You weren’t kidding about making a huge SR thread, wow EDIT: okay, wow. There was a lot here. Nice job summarizing it all up, Steel. Though, about Resonances, why do you think they’re a result of the Ideals? I didn’t really get that bit, besides, Resonances happen between things that don’t require Ideals. I think they’re more like two strands of the Spiritweb crossing each other, somehow, but that’s just me. I do like the idea of making an entirely new entity, Frankenstein-esque, but isn’t that just what Nightblood (and presumably Azure’s sword) is? Or do you mean out of parts of other spiritwebs, using Hemalurgy? Cause that could have some fun (terrible, grisly) things there. Well, no matter what, my Upvote to yours, my Rep become yours. Great post
