  1. WoBs: There is no data I can find on double access to a Surge affecting anything, because you still manipulate teh surge in the same way, and efficiency on Stormlight use with a surge is controlled by oath-level, not having multiple access to that ability. With Honorblades, you would gain access to surges you do not already have, but there are no indications that having a repeat surge affects how you use that surge. Hope that helps
  2. Thanks for another great post. I'd like to point out that Riino shows that Elantrians also experience, at least, Life Sense and Agelessness. Rysn experiences the Perfect Color Recognition, but not Perfect Pitch or Breath Aura. She also experiences a change to Taste that is not a Nalthian Heightening. I think that some "Heightenings" are based on the source of the investiture and/or the location of the investiture (breath Auras occur because Naltian Breath is primarily Physical Realm). So far, Agelessness seems to be the only "universal" Heightening (or, at least shown to be in all examples so far).
  3. Well, I searched the ebooks for specifically "rusts" with no result (case insensitive), and searching rust alone got a number of hits, but mostly variations of rustle, rusty, and trust. Can you please verify which version you were reading? ( I ask because my ebooks are old, so if it was a 10th anniversary or similar, it could be an edition tweak).
  4. I cannot find that word in any of the four current novels (did not check Edgedancer or Dawnshard), but there is a Shardbearer in WoR named Rust, so you might have noticed the possessive of his name - Rust's. WoR Ch 86: As @Returned mentioned- Mistborn and Roshar Spoilers: Hope that helps
  5. Thank you for another interesting post analysis. Please keep in mind that not every Return is necessarily meant for a larger (country, world) goal - and Returned are dealt with very differently in other countries: Endowement is likely one of the stronger Shards in accessing Fortune. But, how that relates to Returned seems to be more about Connection than access to Fortune. Re: Nightblood (without spoilers): Hope that helps.
  6. Here's a WoB: Keep in mind that Kandra need a Skeleton, and the Gemheart is grown into, and is part of, the Skeleton: Even if they are wearing the bones, does not mean they will have (or be able to have) a Bond or use that Gemheart. Hope that helps.
  7. But that is still putting things on the good-evil scale, and it is very rare that any person actually considers themselves evil (we are all the hero of our own stories). Was Rashek Evil? Intersting debate. Was Rashek the antagonist of book 1? No debate at all - Yes. WoB: So if TLR could have been a Skybreaker - even with the way he treated his people - then you have another example. For that matter, was Darkness evil in the first two books? Hunting and executing proto Radiants, simply becase they were becoming Radiant, and using any excuse to do so? He's a fifth Oath Skybreaker, and it seems his Spren and Bond had no problem with that either. So, my advice would be to not have the player or NPC focus on "being evil" but rather focus on a morality that upholds thier Oaths, even when their actions, from another person's view, would be considered evil or villainous. Hope that helps.
  8. Happy you enjoyed it You are correct. And if/when we finally get Nightblood (the tentative name of the next Nalthis book) we should learn more about both of them: This was a deliberate decision. I think I understand why Sanderson didn't choose this path - because he wanted the reader's to determine for themselves how the aftermath might play out (at least to some extent - we may get mentions of Hallendren in a sequel but it won't take place there). Personally, I think the Court would hush-up much of what happened. Afterall, it's not like the regular citizens ever realized their Godking was a puppet without a tongue. Personaly, I think it is stronger right after Hero of Ages. Brandon remarks about how much of this book was meant to be something from Mistborn, but flipped. Those connections are much easier to make right after the Era 1 Trilogy. (Mistborn Spoilers) Thanks for your summary and thought. Hope this helped.
  9. I think the bolded part is a bit of a false assumption. In WoK Ch 60, Nohadon laments: In the books, the whole of Roshar is already facing the Everstorm and Final Desolation, which tends to mostly keep them on one side and working together. But, depending on when your RP takes place, that may not be the case. A Radiant must adhere to their oaths, not any set of morals (theirs or others). So, twisted morals with certain Oaths could produce some very Grey (or downright black) morality being expressed. Example, from the Say the Words WoBs: There are plenty of examples of serial killers, tyrants, CEOs and other villains that truly believed they were morally justified in their crimes. I think the RP allows interesitng ways to explore non-traditional nemeses without necessarily getting hung up on hero/villian, good/bad, order/chaos, etc. There is plenty of room for shades of grey, or even blue and orange morality. Hope that helps
  10. Stormlight (and other) Recaps before a new release. 17th Shard may have: One or more Shardcast episodes as a summary or Recap. One or more Recap Articles available, such as: Roshar World and History SA Main Characters SA Notable Characters SA Mysteries Coppermind will also have Summary Pages, and possibly other references, including: <book>/Summary - e.g. TWoK Summary (Chapter-by-chapter summary with character lists per chapter) <book>/Timelines - e.g. WoR Timeline (Shard created reference for disparate timelines in a work) <book>/Interior Art - e. g. OB Interior Art (on the tin) <book>/Epigraphs - e.g. RoW Epigraphs (All epigraphs collected in one place consecutively) This extends to other works as well, such as both Hero of Ages/Epigraphs and Words of Founding as references for reviewing those. It might also need a "disclaimer" such as Defiant (book)\Summary. Hope that helps
  11. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter) so that we can avoid spoilers, if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some forum tips and tricks. No direct WOBs, but we do know that Nightblood will consume whatever they can get - and can consume a Spren; but Spren can also voluntarily sever their Nahel Bond. So I would expect a spren in danger of being consumed by Nightblood to at least consider severing the bond if Nightblood should endanger them and/or their Radiant. WoBs: Hope that helps
  12. I'm sorry @BenKenobi7333 if my post sounded accusatory, I did not intend it to be so. I can see (hindsight) what you mean @Duxredux that I may have been strong in my expressed opinion. That, in my opinion, does not invalidate that I feel it warrants discussion that while people do not use terms like "fix" or actually charged "verbal slap" terms - that the connotation received may not match the intended communication meant. But, they cannot identify those problems if nobody points them out. many of us have been told all of our lives that we are somehow "less" or "incomplete" due to the lack of a romantic relationship. Kaladin, by virtue of being a Main Character that does not have a stable relationship, is prone to an excessive amount of these fan theories. I felt the need to express my opinion, which should also be valid, and also provided the requested links to other threads where the OP's question had been discussed. I was trying to be both helpful, and representative of an alternative opinion; while also highlighting the potential for unintended hurt. That said, I had other devastating news today, and that also likely influenced my delivery and lack of tact. I'm sorry. I believe I mentioned that
  13. In those words, no. It seems fairly obvious to those with experience in those feelings, but I do not think Brandon has used the term Aromantic - just pointing out that Kaladin is not interested in relationships, especially at this point in his life. WoBs: There are no WoBs I can find with the term Aromantic at all, but his Asexual questions have some WoBs: Hope that helps.
  14. Please no. Kaladin is likely Aromantic (our only Cosmere Aro representative - likely Demiromantic or Quoiromantic) and he does not need to be "fixed" (just as Jasnah does not need to be fixed of her Asexual Identity, or Renarin fixed of his homosexuality). There is nothing wrong with being Aro, and implying he needs a romantic relationship to be "normal" is a slap to those of us that prize his place in the Cosmere. That said, your idea has been mentioned periodicially in many threads - usually under the thought that it will happen with the fifth oath. Some reference threads: Kaladin and Syl Ships Weirdest Ships Kaladin's Potential Ship Hope that helps
  15. Here's the only WoB I could find in this direction, which says "moon" is not far off: We also know that the Yolish Dragons and Nalthian FIve Scholars were instrumental in early Silverlight: Hope that helps
  16. It is more likely the former, because it is implied that the "weakness" ( WoB wording: a little bit of power over one another) is partially how Odium was able to attack the other shards (with the possible exception of the Ambition/Mercy/Threnody thing we still do not understand. Ambition was target #1, but he may have been wounded in that fight because Ambition did not have the same "problem" as di-shardic worlds like Sel, Roshar and Scadrial (where he was planning to go next had he not been trapped on Roshar)). WoB:
  17. I saw from your Intro post that you are familiar with the Cosmere. Were you aware that Rithmatist was originally a Cosmere work, and that Chalkings, Shadowblazes, etc. were all conceived as Spiritual Realm entities. So, it's fairly confirmed that they are non-linear time entities. We don't know that King Gregory learned the use of Rithmatic Lines just because of his bond - but I agree it may be possible that there is another entity that creates similar-but-distinct bonds.
  18. Why ask if you already had your preferred answer? I'm just providing the WoBs. There is an order of magnitude difference between the power in an Honorspren (or other normal Radiant Spren) and the Bondsmith Spren. There is another order of magnitude between Stormfather and the other two (because he is both a Splinter and Sliver) If she could enlighten the Sibling is far less important than would he agree. (see the second half of the bolded section of the WoB above)
  19. Because Sja-Anat Enlightens, not Corrupts - and requires permission. WoB:
  20. Please be aware that this is not correct. No. Hope that helps
  21. That was believed to be true by Szeth, but Kaladin shows in RoW that correct Intent does not require that . . .(RoW Spoilers) Since we already saw Szeth misunderstand Intent with summoning his Honorblade, I take early WoK info with a splash of crem.
  22. No, you cannot. WoB: However, in a different application (such as Lift and Szeth during the Battle of Thaylen Field) you could use a reverse lashing on someone or thing, then throw/shoot in that direction so the reverse lashing pulls it to target. Referencing the above example, if Szeth still had the Honorblade, he could have used a reverse lashing on Lift (more likely something she carried) and himself - then as they tossed the gem to each other avoiding the fused, the reverse lashing would help them catch it. Less martial applications, but more "take a third option" applications. Hope that helps
  23. Please see the Reactions section of the Sharder FAQ. It has that and a much more forum good-to-knows. Hope that helps.
  24. I think the more relevant part of the WoB is here: My personal theory, based on current evidence is: Odium influces Ashynites to create a cataclysm (not invested in the system) Likely through misuse of a Dawnshard Ashynites relocate to Roshar as refugees Time passes with Humans only in Shinovar Honor (possibly with Cultivation) uses this event to "hook" Odium to Ashyn and/or Braize All three, together, realize the above clause and that his presence will cause Bad Things (tm) If he is both present (unable to leave) and unInvested They agree Odium gets to Invest in Braize since he cannot leave the Rosharan System Odium uses this to start causing Singer/Human conflict and escalate into the Desolations likely hoping Honor would release the hook and let him leave if he caused enough trouble note that "Voidbringers" and Unmade display the "purple" or red-corrupted (Honor) blue, rather than the Gold or Red-Gold of Odium's true Investiture color Desolations, Heralds, Fused, etc. - as we know it Eventually in "modern" day we have the Stones' revelation to Venli - Odium's tone is now a Pure Tone of Roshar.
  25. Nope. Only Era 1 Scadrial. Most of the Cosmere would not equate easily to Earth-levels of technology (for example, Roshar during Way of Kings - No aircraft, but they have global communication via Spanreeds? Do you consider that pre-1910s because of the lack of aviation, or post 1980 due to written information communications technology (MagiTech)? Yes. Taldain was advanced back before Rashek went to the Well. Both Dayside and Darkside were advanced, just in different areas (Darksiders considered Daysiders primitive, until Khriss got there and realized that their sciences - especially pneumatics - were at least equal to some Darkside advancements). (Mistborn and White Sand Spoilers) Hope that helps
